  • Looking for a cheap brushless motor and esc combo for your rc car? Look no further! For $15 each with shipping, you can buy yourself this brushless rc motor and this brushless 60 amp esc to go with it. There's other brushless rc combo out there, like the GOOL RC's, but I wanted to test this one out instead since it was $10 cheaper.
Quick review: The brushless motor looks nice and tidy. Definitely has a lot more power if paired with better gearing and an ESC. The brushless esc looks cheap and does not look like it can handle a lot of power, but it held it's own in about 15-20 minutes of full throttle.

today i ran my slash 2wd 12t and xl5 esc on a 3s lipo and it only lasted around 20 seconds then fried forward out of the esc but i still had reverse so i reversed the wires on the motor and ran it with a 2s lipo and got 29 mph with it on a 23t pinion and 86t spur....got 35 mph on 3s before the smoke started so it was weak id say when i hit 29 with the 2s.....never checked speed before i changed gears so i think ill do that tomorrow and see the difference between 19t 90t gears that was on car when i bought it used vs the 23t 86t i put on it

I use the ghool RC motor ESC combo. I've had it for about a year and it still working very well in my two-wheel drive slash. Seems like it works better than this $15 set up. You just need to make sure you order the higher KV motor from ghool.

There's nothing wrong with these esc's. People burn these up because they be trying to run 3s and 4s setups with them geared to the moon. I have one of these in a Tamiya touring car with the stock gearing and on 2s and it went fast enough to get the car airborne and flip. I've had it for 2 years and no issues whatever

That’s good to know. Haven’t used it long enough but it’s holding up fine like you said on 2s, so I’m happy for the price! I also put it in my Tamiya Grasshopper and it definitely has more kick on a smaller and lighter platform 👍🏽

Any 540 can size brushless motor should fit the mount, length it depends on the rc. For KV, something like a 3000-5000kv motor should be fine. Higher KV will probably destroy the drivetrain on a cheaper made RC

On 4s when i testing the throttle pulling it very quickly, on the 3rd time when the trigger is at rest, it sudden accelerates to full throttle for 3 seconds then power cuts off. Esc is fried, servo is also affected. I dont know if my receiver too. I cant test it right now.
I observe on this esc that when on low speed then pull the trigger quick, it lags. Is it because the factory timing settings is maybe high? My Tx Rx is Dumborc X6. I dont have any esc to compare it.

People think going brushless always means faster regardless of voltage. If you have a medium kV motor it wil only go a mile or 2 faster with the same amount of cells as a brushed, only difference will be acceleration. When you go a cell up that's where the big difference will be visible.. or going higher with kv and balancing gearing with that or else the motor will overheat easily.

I agree that if you need to invest minimally then you're typically better doing so on the motor. A quality ESC will not only have higher performance but overall reliability, programming and tuning are more comprehensive. I use Castle and related ESCs, meaning the older HPI Vektor ESCs also connect to Castle-Link and allow more tuning options than just using the program card.

@@bigwhop136 Most models are workable with a stock 25T - 20T type brushless replacement like a reedy sonic etc.
Just be sure your brushless ESC is about 60 amps so it can handle the brushless motor. The other trick is checking your original motor armature type / original pinion inner diameter to be certain the armature on the new motor is the same diameter as your original pinion inner diameter. Otherwise you'll be buying a new pinion as well.
Amazon has inexpensive Gool RC motor and esc combos that should work if you're just bashing around.
