Ahh i'm so happy I stumbled across ESDE tonight! Working with Linux is perfect!
I have a spare dell optiplex micro lying about and I want to set it up in the living room for both emulation, but also as a Plex server.
I was really struggling on what to do, because I didnt want to be booting between Batocera and my Plex server. And I wanted to go Linux for the Plex server but I couldnt find a front end like retrobat for Linux. I found one called Pegasus but there's like no tutorials on youtube for Linux setup. And so I was about to resign myself to using windows as the Plex server (which is fine but Linux was just preferable) and retrobat for the emulation aspect.
ESDE solves my issues!😄 Anyways, sorry that I just shared that all with you but i'm just excited I got a solution! I've saved this vid and i'm gonna come back to it over the next week when I start setting it up 🤓

I have just set this up on a dedicated quad core q6700, 16gb ddr3, gtx 1650 low profile, dell 7010, 2TB. Just wondering if its possible to rig this to have all the new and latest emulators or is it mostly running off retroarch?. Are most of your new videos all stand alone emulation or can they be placed into a front end?. Whats your thoughts

Any way to change alternate emulator for Gamecube to preferred version of Dolphin on my Retroid device? It only gives you “Dolphin (default)” or “Dolphin (standalone)” as options and neither work. I have Dolphin MMJR and the regular version installed on my Retroid. How do I make ES recognize Dolphin MMJR only?
If I accidentally setup my retroid pocket 2s initially while opting out of using the Google playstore- do I need to reset it and choose that option when it does the start up? I've looked for a Play Store download months ago but I never found one.

So far i used Emuelec, Retroarch and Emulationstation on a Super Console x2pro (Android Box). Works nice now but was a nightmare with all the lost configs and that damned linux partition resulted in several card corruptions.
Now switched to a mini pc with external game drive. But i’m unsure what system to use. Batocera, Retrobat or ES-DE? Now i know, thanks.
But how can i install everything just on the hard drive? I probably have to install directX, etc.. on Windows? And Windows is also always running in the background with all that unnecessary stuff? I’m asking Performance-wise.
And can you name the best emulators for the most important systems? Mean Megadrive, SNES, PSX, PS2, PS3, Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, GC, Wii, WiiU, Switch, Mame/FBNeo, Naomi, Models 2+3, C64, AtariVCS??
Have to ask would you go with retrobat or ESDE for a HP mini pc running windows 10? Had batocera but crashed after update V39 and don’t want to go back to that. Thanks for your advice!

Great Video, very helpful. Please can you work your magic on a Steam Deck OLED version? I am still living in hope that one day you will create one of your setup guides on Pimiga 4 for the Steam Deck OLED, I have spent hours and I cannot get it to work. Thank you for all your help with these guides.
All you need to do is use Lutris or Wine to run Windows apps on Steam OS.
You need Emudeck! Easy little process there. Not even needing to look for the individual emulators

So annoying that I'd been struggling with the deprecated 2015 version of emulation station for a day now before discovering the ES-DE fork which has been a pleasure. I wonder how many others have fallen into that trap.

@@JustJamie1983 It is. Was going to check out another one but you said the devs had been rude to you (although in fairness younobjectively rated the product well) but if this works, I've had enough for a while because I've spent more time doing tasks around gaming than actually playing the games.

Have u done a guide for setting up alternative emulators es-de 3.0 windows? Struggling to get it to launch standalone duck station also my pcsx2 opens in small window even when full screen is selected within the emulator

Thanks for the video. I have a bit of a sound issue I can not figure out. It happens with every version of es de portable I have had. The sound in the menus works fine but as soon as I play and game and then exit back to the es de menu I have no sound in es de. Playing another game however the sound works fine.
Have you tried changing sound drivers inside retroarch?

The driver was the issue. I filtered through several different ones until I found one where sound worked upon returning from a game to es-de. Thanks for the suggestion bro

Put a few games on ,downloaded art work ect no probs.But when I come to launch game ,says emulator not found.Like I said I've done everything right I think..any suggestions..many thanks and keep up the good work 👍

Partly. You can also add standalones.
I've been fighting with my rog ally to set up the 8bitdo c ultimate 2.4ghz controller, is it even possible? I also have the ultimate version (the one with docking station and dongle) which I haven't tried yet but is it possible? Anyone have an answer? It's been frustrating since emulation station looks better than launchbox. I kind of got it to work once BUT it doesn't seem to register the controller as player one, its always the rog ally

Sure, you can pop those games into favourites.
@@JustJamie1983No, I meant like, as soon as you launch ES, you'll be at the last game you played. Just press B and it launches.
Is anyone who's running PS2 games within ES-DE having issues with their textures going haywire? I've been trying to find a solution but can't seem to get things back to normal. The issue I'm having is your character could be standing next to a wall and the texture on the wall is your character's texture pack instead of the wall's texture pack. It's maddening and is pretty much unplayable for most games. It's mostly happening in the GTA games which is a huge bummer considering they're a must to play. If anyone has had a similar issue and found the solution please be a pal and help out! I've tried just about everything.
My games are never detected no matter what I try...What am I missing ?
updating makes some of the copied over ES themes (manually) in the ES-DE not work anymore.. that's a shame!

JUST A QUICK 1 MY ROMS FOLDER IS ON MA C DRIVE I WANT TO MOVE IT TO THE EMUSTATION FOLDER WHICH IS LOCATED ON MY D DRIVE HOW DO I CHANGE THE ROMS PATH SO IT SEES IT IN THE NEW PLACE THANKYOU

sorry for the caps i didnt relise haha so when i downloaded the folder and clicked on the thing where it gives you all the emulator folders they all went to myc drive wer my windows 10 is kept but the actual emulationstation and everything else is on my d drive 4tb i want to move the roms folder off my c drive into the emustation folder on my d drive but if i move it i will need to change the rom path tothe d drive how do i change the path so it can find the roms on my d drive @@JustJamie1983

OpenGL is referring to video drivers. Which GPU do you have?

Next to an old i3 I believe it's Intel hd 3000, checked my Opengl and direct x and it looks like I'm as up to date as the hardware can get.

You.would need to check retroarcb wiki per system.

To be honest. They are both as easy as each other. As a reccomendation. Stick with ESDE.

What does portable version mean?
Everything is within a folder rather than being installed to hard drive.

I give up. All this crap is just too much. I rather just download the individual apps and just put the directory to the folder with the roms. All this downloading this and that is just ridiculous. You need all the emulators plus emudeck, retroach and this and that. Why can't they just have one app that does it all and just have your put the roms in the folder.
Have you checked out Attact Mode?
One app that does everything would quickly be sued out of existence yep
