Thats a really cool take on Golgari. Personally im playing a Deck with a lot of undergrowth creatures and a Cauldron of Eternity. A little antisynergetic at times since that shuffles creates into your deck after they die But theres nothing like pumping lothleth giants out turn after turn
Started playing this to grind my way back to mythic. So far so good, has a lot of options and hedge really gets you out of tight spots. I've had a few issues with opening hands, but I also told myself they were probably mulligans. I think the weakest card in the deck is guardian. Double green is hard to hit, but I like barkhide troll as the two drop. Order of midnight I think has some great upside as well.
This deck's nickname apparently is Golgari Midrhenge, which I find extremely cringeworthy, so thank you for not using that. Anyway, hear me out here: does a Henge deck like this really need to be Golgari? I played it for a while, then I got beaten twice by the monogreen version, switched to that, and it felt smoother, somehow more powerful? No taplands and shocklands, plenty of power for the Henge without Rotting Regisaur's awkward card disadvantage (Yorvo does pretty much the same job in the same spot, and you don't strictly need T4 Henge anyway), and Vivien to trample over those puny tokens, which also means no need to take to the air with more self-damaging black stuff. I know all the cool kids are playing this, and the reason, I think, is because Murderous Rider looks like the ultimate Spike card. But I dare to challenge that notion a bit, especially in non-strictly-control builds that want to play tempo. There are complex play patterns buried within, but the general idea is that spot removal in midrange is of two kinds: if you lean aggressive, then you get on the board and use removal to clear a path, but you don't want to do that through a 3-mana spell, it needs to be cheaper or you're losing tempo 1-to-1-ing targets that are cheaper than your removal; or you're leaning control, then you won't rush your removal, you'll wait and pick the best targets for it. As you noted, this deck definitely leans aggro with a card advantage engine attached. "But Kuma, what are you gonna do in your monogreen Henge deck when they drop a big bad thing on your face?". The answer is Voracious Hydra on one hand, but mostly Vivien once again (it might be worth remembering Vivien kills planeswalkers too). With Vivien, you kill stuff while also improving your board, so you're not losing tempo. "But Kuma, Murderous Rider is instant speed!". Yeah, but you're a tapdown deck, you never really exploit instant speed, so it's meaningless. "But Kuma, Murderous Rider gains you life!". That's a misconception. The amount of time, resource and opportunity between Rider's loss of life and its potential lifegain are such that it might be more correct to say it doesn't actually gain you any life, ever (of course it does sometimes, but it's more of an incidental, unreliable occurrence). And the built-in life loss is also ultimately not irrelevant in a few popular matchups, like Cavalcade. And let's be honest, the creature itself is nice and all, but a 2/3 for 3 is vastly less cost effective than anything else in the deck; if we run Murderous Rider, it's for the adventure, which is Hero's Downfall. And did we use to run 4x Hero's Downfall in every deck with a bit of black in it? We actually didn't. I'm not saying Murderous Rider is not a strong card, it's very very strong, but not auto-include as a 4-ofs in every list with black in it, I don't think. The one card from the Golgari version that I miss in the monogreen version is Knight of the Ebon Legion; Pelt Collector is an okay replacement, but very far from its power level. So if one argued, "You must play Golgari for Knight of the Ebon Legion alone", then I might ultimately agree; for the other black cards, not really (I like Rankle, but not all these lists even include Rankle; some include Pelt Collector to keep it very low to the ground).
41:50 I thought I was the only one, I feel that it's always rude to GG someone just after you pulled off a lethal on them.. of cource it was good for you! I prefer to GG only when I lose or in response to someone who lost and GG'd me
