I’m just curious why you have a seemingly negative response to this post? Do you not read ingredients to items you purchase? If there’s no demand for palm oil then these beautiful creatures would still have their habitats and so many wouldn’t have been slaughtered.

An excellent documentary highlighting a devastating issue. I have written a chapter book, called 'Sophie's Cause', which is for children aged 5 plus. It heavily features the orangutans in Borneo and the problems with the palm oil industry. I am still looking for a literary agent to take it on (fingers crossed), as I completely believe that children care far more than we give them credit for.
Thank you for making this documentary. People can't make changes if they don't realise what the problems are. My shopping is now completely palm-free, it was difficult, as products aren't always labelled as having palm in them, sometimes palm is given a different name, but I've done it. As a consequence, my Dad then started shopping for palm-free products, then my sister, then her friend. We CAN make a difference. It just takes one person to decide to start.

You can see how sweet these Orangs are and they don't act like a spoiled brat. I just hate hoe these adorable, smart animals are treated. I know the Macaques breed like there's no tomorrow. They are so overpopulated and act like entitled brats. They scream, squeal and are total gluttons. My sweet Orangutans are limited as to where to live due to deforestation. They don't throw tantrums or act like entitled brats that expect humans to feed them. These cute guys laugh, they are laid back and I love and feel their warmth when they smile as they look at those who rescue them. You can clearly look into their eyes and see the depth of their soul.❤ These are my favorite wild animals that are part of the "Great Apes". Taking care and teaching them would be the ultimate job to show them many traits of living in the wild. Thank you for looking out for these smart, laid back &.very intelligent relatives that are attached to all of us. Thank you for taking care of such beautiful creatures and to help them to survive back in the wild! God Bless all of you.❤😂

Great program. Very well done and informative. But one small thing-around the 26:30 mark: the sun bear. As cute as this cub is, the adults are extremely vicious omnivores who attack without provocation and are one of the most dangerous animals in the jungle. I’m truly glad they are able to help her and others like her, but facts should also be explained. We tend to Disney-fie wildlife sometimes, much to our own peril. If you see a sun bear-or ANY bear, do NOT approach, no matter how cute they appear.

Yes it is difficult to watch some of the harrowing scenes but the whole palm oil business and its threat to the ecosystem is complex. And if corporations wont do the right thing by the people and the animals of Indonesia (and they wont) then we all need to check our pantries and see how much palm oil we use! Start there! and make changes that benefit the welfare of all. We in the west in particular are guilty of aiding and abetting these practices by being lazy and frankly selfish.

God bless that poor orangutan's soul. My heart aches for the orangutans. They are such incredible, kind, and gentle creatures that never ever deserve the horrors they suffer in their own homeland. Orangutans are better than so many humans. That sweet boy hung on for dear life, but lost his life due to vicious cruelty. How the hell does a person take a machete to a innocent animal without any remorse, no feeling, and take the baby? God bless the good decent medical team and caregivers who do everything possible to save the lives of the orangutans.

Idk how as a vet seeing that orangutan so abused with no life. I’m 51 years old looking at my dog and cat and thinking why did they abuse him like that? Why do these people want hurt them? I know they kill adults to get babies but why then harm the baby? They aren’t aggressive so why? I’m glad at least that male baby orangutan had some affection prior to death. It hurts me to think he never got to see humans aren’t all terrible but he had one foot missing and 130 shot wounds. I guess his body couldn’t hold out anymore. The desire they have to live with so much pain is amazing. You guys are awesome humans. Thank you for trying. You guys have your all driving in dark bad conditions over 12 hours.

When I was a kid my family usually take me to see some orangutans and I thought it was cool because they were just like us and about the palm oil, I thought the palm oil was something good that can be eaten by orangutans and it's actually not...
damn, i don't want to eat a food that has palm oil in it no more because that's really affects the orangutans homes

it's also in many things like cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners, skin creams. totally unnecessary. many other oils could be used. they use it because it is 'cheap' look what it actually cost. boycott its use.

that was a great doco thank you covering the palm oil problem. unfortunately when your aussie mate was shopping he was buying junk food products that would have contained palm oil hence highlighting (& ignoring) the very issue at hand! :( please talk more about the solution which is to stop supporting the trade by buying certain products containing this stuff. great to see you planting durian.

She is our magnificent Mother and we are treated like barbarians! ☹️I look at these babies and I want to cry!💔Animals are taken captive, their homes are destroyed, why? Don't be surprised if their Mother retaliates against us cruelly with floods, fire and earthquakes! Everything has limits and we crossed them!

You feel bad?!? I'm miserable after watching that lil boy lose his life for no reason except at the hands of humans. 😭😭😭 why? Why do people have to be so frickin cruel? The whole world is going to hell in a hand basket. My favorite primate had always been the orangutan. Ever since I was lil and id went thi the zoo and made an orangutan friend. I lip smacked tho it and it got closer and I talked to it like I would a human and it just sat watching me. I was at it's enclosure for better than an hour. We connected in my mind! RIP lil one!!

They need to set up food banks for the people in Borneo and Sumatra. Because the people are just trying to survive and feed there family. Also they should teach the next generation of kids in Indonesia schools on the importance of protecting forest 🌳 for ecotourism warm planet with less tree it one small planet and everything is interconnected

This is so sad, yet I'm encouraged that some of us are working to bring our cousins back from extinction. It would be a tragic irony if these primates were driven to extinction by other primates. And as time goes on, we are finding out that conserving rainforests are in our mutual interests. We need to think and try to make intelligent choices.
