    There can’t be comparison between both of these. Jhonty Rodes is a legend who changed the definition of fielding in modern cricket. The Era in which Jonty played was more different than where Pollard is playing.
    Jonty is the reason today we can see best and awesome fielding efforts.

      Yeah, that context is really important. Back when Jonty Rhodes was playing, no one really took fielding seriously. He pretty much singlehandedly changed the way the game was played.

    With the “obstruction” incident, it wasn’t a fielder who was in the way, but the bowler. In cricket the bowler is allowed to stand his ground, he doesn’t have to get out of the way of the batsman. You can see in this case the batsman ran into the bowler who had remained in the same place as where he’d been appealing from. The batsman running had changed his own direction

    • @lakshitdagar
      @lakshitdagar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But now if you think about it, it does seem odd that the bowler is allowed to do that. I mean why is the bowler allowed to stand in the middle of the pitch. Either do something or get out of the way. If the bowler is running towards the stumps I understand but sometimes bowlers look where the batsmen are and intentionally try to block them. That seems illegal.

    here is a small definition about west indies cricket - The West Indies cricket team, nicknamed the Windies, is a multi-national men's cricket team representing the mainly English-speaking nations and territories in the Caribbean region and administered by Cricket West Indies. The players on this composite team are selected from a chain of fifteen Caribbean territories, which are parts of several different countries and dependencies.

    The obstruction rule basically is that the fielder going for the ball has priority over the batsman, but no-one else is supposed to interfere with a batsman running between the wickets. Where it gets awkward is with the bowler, who after bowling is almost always down the wicket in the line where the batsman would run. They aren't required to move out of the batsman's way which means you have to go around them. The batsman's obligation not to obstruct the fielder extends not not stopping a throw at the stumps which could run them out. Being out "Obstructing the Field" is pretty rare and having a run-out overturned because the bowler obstructed a batsman is also uncommon, but both happen from time to time.
    There are also some bowlers who don't like being scored off much, especially when they think you've been lucky not to be out, and they'll put a hip.foot/arm out and give you a nudge as you run past them. It's very annoying if there's a chance of a run out, but your bowler is being an idiot and giving the batsman a life.

    Amongst those recommended vids @4:04, there's a few you should watch but one you have to is the bottom right one of the guy in pink. Most people, as far as I know, say key-rin, but that guys pronunciation, partly due to the accent, is also acceptable, & he bats as well making him one of the best all rounders ever, right up there with Jacques Kallis, Andrew Symonds... The rules might have changed a bit since that was old footage regarding the instruction.

    There are a couple of types of "obstruction" in cricket but they're very rare and almost always controversial:
    1) Obstruction by the batsman, called "obstructing the field". Example: Batsman plays the ball down defensively, it spins back towards his wicket, and he kicks it or swats it away with his hand. He can legally protect his wicket only with his bat. Another example might be the batsman kicking or hitting the ball away to prevent a fielder or the bowler from fielding it. In these cases he would be dismissed if the fielding side appealed to the umpire.
    2) Obstruction or distraction of the batsman, which comes under the "unfair play" rules. As a rule, it is actually the batsman's responsibility not to run into anyone as they run down the wicket. The bowler and fielders don't have to get out of the way in the course of their fielding duties and the batsman just has to go around them. However a batsman cannot be dismissed if he is deliberately obstructed, 5 penalty runs are awarded to his team, and the delivery doesn't count (has to be re-bowled). I've never seen this happen.

    5:15 while he is wondering about the insane skill of Pollard, I'm here wondering the insane amount of power Maxwell put into that shot, considering he struck it at the tail end of the bat (the section of the bat which is considered to produce a weak shot when striking the ball) and yet the ball would have sailed for a six, if not for Pollard

    In regards to interference from the bowler on the batsman... in cricket it’s meant to be a gents sport and the decision is meant to be on the fielding team to appeal the dismissal on the other teams behalf. Good example New Zealand vs England when New Zealand appealed it for them but they didn’t return the favour

    Regarding interference it's out by the letter of the law, however, with collisions, the fielding side can rescind the appeal to keep the batsman at the crease if they feel it was unsporting - but they are not required to do so. No one would rescind an appeal of an Australian, especially Ponting, lmao.
    There was a massive blow up a decade ago between New Zealand and England over this, where England did not rescind and New Zealand were disadvantaged. It led to a massive celebration by New Zealand when they finally won.

  • @davecheffie5706
    @davecheffie5706 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fielder/bowler is allowed to hold his line, either on the follow through, or attempting to field the ball. However, if he changed his line to interfere with the batsman, the decision could be reversed to not out.
    However, the batsman can attempt to interfere with the fielder (to an extent). He can run at the ball to make it harder for the fielder to gather the ball, or run towards the stumps in an attempt to block the throw. But once the batsman has chosen his line to run, he can't change it.

      It's not a term you'll hear in cricket, though. The fielding aspect of the game is usually viewed as being the offensive role - to the extent that a team's bowling unit (what you might call the bullpen) is sometimes called 'the attack'. Conversely, it's the batsman's job to defend the stumps. Kind of the opposite of how it is in baseball.

    A cricket ball doesn't hit that hard when you are catching imo as long as it doesn't rip your webbing between the thumb and forefinger.... Or if you mistimed the catch and it breaks your finger

    Pollard with his first catch certainly saved the bacon for someone in the crowd behind him.

    This video does not contain what is probably the best Jonth Rhodes run-out (and possibly the best in cricket history), whoch is the 1992 run out of Inzamam-Ul-Huq. Inzamam was known for being slow, but it was still amazing. Here’s the video: m.th-cam.com/video/mHqviooA38g/w-d-xo.html

    Look at Rohit Sharma batting bcz he has got a strong game and interestingly he has got extra time to play the ball then any other player around
    People often compared him with the legend himself
    Sir Vivian Richard's
    Do look into it .
