    Bought my YC61 this time last year. Never imagined it would be more capable and have new sounds, a year later. Thanks for demystifying the update procedure, and for your channel in general. Going to make music, now.

    Not a better channel out there. Your channel has been a life saver for the last 2 years. I think we got our boards around the same time. It's been awesome to be walking through the exciting new changes at the same time and see someone who likes this board as much as I do

    I can't believe I'm almost a year behind the firmware update on my YC-88. I keep it at our vacation home that's in the middle of a PacNW forest-and which gets frequent power outages.
    So you freaked me out when you said (@6:40)..."Under no circumstances should you interrupt the power cycle in any way or turn the YC off-or you can permanently damage your keyboard." 😮
    It's in the process and I'm sweating bullets, man! 😱

      lol...im here in the PNW as well and we get frequent power outages...I always try pick a sunny "NO SNOW' day to do my updates.

    I'm starting to save up for one of these. It seems like the best option for my needs that I could possibly afford. Nord just gets too expensive for eighty-eight keys. I really appreciate that Yamaha has been listening to users and adding very good features and new sounds in each update. The improvement in the rotary speaker really blew me away.

    • @Featherlightstudio

      I was so impressed with the new rotors sound, I sold my Nord Stage to get the YC88, love it!

    I have one and without a doubt one of the best stage keyboards, beautiful sound and with the best organ emulator I know!!!
    This update came to complement a lot and best of all... without paying!

    Thanks for putting this together - you’re definitely the YT authority on the YC boards. I did this update a few days ago and it’s a nice update. Something you mentioned that I wish I knew beforehand-when you save either a ‘backup’ or ‘live set all’ file, you can later load individual live sets from within either of these file types to the YC (they will load to the currently selected live set). The update instructions do not mention this. Before I re-loaded my previously-backed-up live set file containing my custom live sets, I backed up all the new 1.30 live sets individually (4 banks worth, 32 files 🤓) to upload later. It would be a nice feature if the YC could save/load banks of live sets.

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be nice, although it can load each page of live sets individually, kinda the same thing. It would also be great if they could add a 'Mix' control to the Delay effects, maybe in a future update!!🤞

    Thanks Steve, once again you have hit it out of the park! I am sure I am not the only one here that is in my late 60's and grew up with analog gear which was a LOT easier to wrap our minds around compared to all of the moving parts in the modern, digital world. Your VERY precise and easy to understand videos are a Godsend! Peace and namaste.

    Thanks for doing this. One tip = turning on and off a device so many times increases the chance of in-rush current from damaging the power supply. Using Zero Surge protection, it prevents the damage from in-rush current.

    Thanks for your help

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used a pretty wide variety but I think the most important is that they at least USB 2-3 and that they are formatted INSIDE the YC board first.

      I would LOVE for Yamaha to add more polyphony to take it to 256 voices, as well as a more programmable and comprehensive synthesizer section. Also - add more sounds like in the CK series. More variations on the acoustic and electric pianos as well as clavinets would be great. More Live Set pages/slots would also be helpful.

  • @michelleszilagyi6014
    @michelleszilagyi6014 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your videos are so very helpful. Thank you. I am very new to using a keyboard and just got the YC88. You state that we have to save and backup all of the new live sets we just downloaded from the new firmware so we can pick and choose which ones to add to our original sets later. Can you elaborate some on what you mean by this? The new ones don't automatically save to the live set list?

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you update your firmware, you always want to backup your current sounds, as its overwrites ALL your current onboard sounds with the new factory sets that come with the new firmware. Saving these new sounds to a USB key allows you to re-load all your existing sounds back into the YC after you update. Then you can go back through the new live set sounds on the USB key and add them to your current live sets as you need them.

    • @Featherlightstudio

      The sustain pedal is only a momentary switch, it won't sweep open and close the wah effect, like an expression pedal will.

  • @TheSunlight74
    @TheSunlight74 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video. I just wondered if you had any experience of these sounds (particularly pianos) in mono in a live setting? A lot of PA systems in clubs are mono, which as I understand it negates outputting in stereo in the first place.

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, if you have to run in mono, which I hate, then the 'left Mono output' at least sums the two sides together without phase issues. I usually run 2 powered monitors in stereo for my stage setup and then sum to mono from my digital mixer to the front of house so at least I hear it in stereo lol

    • @Featherlightstudio

      Yes, each update is cumulative and includes the updates of the previous updates as well.

    Hi I am awaiting delivery of a replacement YC 61 for a faulty one. I had. I’ve saved all my settings on a USB stick but I’m just wondering the best order to reinstate . Do you think it better to put the 1.3 update on first, or would I put my own settings in first, and then add the 1.3 Thanks for all your great videos

    • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have saved a 'complete' YC backup of your old board, you should be good either way. However, I would load the newest 1.30 OS first as the new YC 61 will have the factory OS at the time of shipping and may not be the latest OS. This will allow you to save all the new sounds and Live Sets of the 1.30 Firmware BEFORE you overwrite them with your old backup.

    Hi Steve, I have a question for you, is that possible to use the live set section as you scroll to the pages without affecting the other ones? Like I'm using an EP on Live Set 1, 2 pages down, and want to use an FM piano saved on the first position in Live Set 4 as an example without having to use the - + page button to get back to the first position on page 4?

    Hi Steve, I got a YC88 and trying to upgrade the firmware from 1.2 to 1.30. I am plugging in a brand new usb thundrive (SDDDC2-064G-G46 to be specific), and the YC doesnt seem to be able to recognize the usb drive (it says "Connect USB device" when trying to either backup or format the drive. • @Featherlightstudio
      @Featherlightstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      you have to make sure that you FIRST format the new thumb-drive inside the YC88 before you go back to the computer and load the new firmware on it or the Yamaha won't recognize it.

    I don't like how difficult they make this. I just got the yc and made a live set I really like. I should be able to save it on their app, soundmondo, update my keyboard and reload it. But after all my efforts I found that I must have the latest keyboard update to use soundmondo. Extremely frustrating. I shouldn't need 2 USB stick lol.

    Really good videos, but it's a shame that, like so many others, you use Amazon affiliates. A company that does so much harm, and at the hands of which smaller, independent companies often can't compete. Don't mean to sermonise, and of course it's your choice and I understand you want to earn from your channel. But it's a shame creators all jump into bed with Amazon.
