Thank you for the video. I absolutely love my YC-88 so to watch you walk through these 5 points is very helpful. I did not realize I could assign the volume from the iPad to one of the switches like that. Thanks again and keep putting these great videos out. It is much appreciated!
I just ordered a YC 88 from Sweetwater that should be arriving in 2 days. I had no idea it did all of this, I am absolutely stunned and so excited!! Thank you for the tips!!
As I understand it, bluetooth via MIDI only makes the MIDI connection, not the audio into the YC audio interface. But I dont have the MB-BT01 here to test it with. Let us know what you find out.
@Featherlightstudio I see, thanks, that makes a lot of sense.. problem with apple camera kit is expensive and not last very long, mine broken twice, the non apple one is not working sometimes..
The edit on the integration of another board lost me a little...when you say "and then move the slider here" at 11:30 the camera then moves to the GAIN knob on the YC...is the slider you refer to the volume of the MOX at that point? The volume on the MOX? So with gain fully up you adjust the volume on the MOX so it matches the YC? Sorry, I got confused here!
Heh Simon, yes that's correct, set the input gain knob on the YC mostly wide open (as its really just a line level potentiometer) and then set the volume slider on the MOX to match levels. Sorry for the quick cut.
@@Featherlightstudio Just a quick further question on this...is it possible to route the audio of the top board through the YC but not MIDI it up? So the boards are separate but the YC is controlling the volume output? This would be useful in just sending those two outputs to the mixer/FOH etc.
@@TheSunlight74 Absolutely, the YC will mix any audio input, even from a complex mixer setup, this is how I run my live setup sometimes. Very convenient
@@TheSunlight74 You can route any audio signal ( Keyboard, Mixer, MP3 ) through the input and have the YC master volume act as the final volume for it. They dont need to have a MIDI connection, but obviously won't have control either.
Thank you for this video. Is there any app on Ipad that play styles (pop, rock, cha cha...) and then output to YC88 so that I can play and pratice a particular song by myself?
Quick question please I want to keep the global Transpose static when switching programs , but when I select a program it reverts transpose back to 0 - Is there anyway to change this thanks
Thanks for this video, helped me with the Ipad assigning volume. It would have been great if the YC had a few extra user assignable sliders/ knobs/ switches for internal or external control.
Hi all just purchased a YC88. Very Festive!. I wonder if I can trigger the amazing H1 organ voice via an external keyboard (midi) and have the YC itself play a piano voice?....I can't afford two. Any help would be much appreciated. With Thanks Dave in Keremeos
Absolutely, set the YC88 Organ voice to 'EXT' in settings, and set the Piano voice to 'INT' Or you can use the extensive Zone features for even more precise control.
I recently purchased the YC 73 and so far I’m very happy with it. I’m still learning my way around the keyboard. I was wanting to make my own live set but I was afraid of erasing or changing the pre loaded live sets. Do you have or know of any tutorials on this? Also, would using the Sound Mondo app be a better way to do this?
There are plenty of empty live set locations towards the end to copy Live Set Sounds to but its always best to save ALL your Live Sets as well as a full backup to a USB key. That way you can mix and match your Live Sets as you need to arrange them for your performances or create new ones. Sound Mondo is a HUGH resource for sounds as well!! With your phone or iPad you can upload and download anything in any direction to and from the YC! Some really great stuff on that site!!
@@Featherlightstudio Thanks for your reply. I’m still learning the YC73. I tried to make some of my own live sets and I sort of stumbled my way through it. Are there any good tutorials on making your own live sets?
@@jhn1987 The start of this video details backing up sounds th-cam.com/video/YvABHVaPwBY/w-d-xo.html But I will try to make a video covering just building your own custom live sets here soon!
when you set a sound parameter to one of the controlers, will it still be set when you turn the keyboard on the next time? and wen you hook up an exturnal sound modgle to the YC, do you half to go in and ajust any settings? It seamed like you didn't half to do that on the video. I just want to make sure.
The sound assignment parameters are saved with each voice on the YC. You can have any arrangement of assignments you want with every voice in the Live Set. There's no way for the YC to know 'what' sound module you have so you will have to initially set the MIDI receive channel of the module. After that, all MIDI parameters set are stored with each voice also except the YC global settings.
Thank you for brillant videos😊 , it would be fantastic if you could make a video on how to set up YC with MainStage 3 , i don’t know if those midi zone settings is saved pr parch or global 😊
Great video and I’ve enjoyed all your videos on the YC series boards. Do you know if it’s possible to control an iPad sound source from an external keyboard controller that is connected to the YC via midi? I’ve looked at the user manual but the language is somewhat unclear.
Took me a bit to test this. No, it doesn't appear to 'echo' the Incoming MIDI data and combine it with the USB data the way an old school MIDI switch might do. You can, of course control if the internal YC sounds respond to ext MIDI control but the USB and MIDI protocols appear to be separately managed by the YC. If someone finds a way around this, please chime in here.
I had another look at the user manual, and it appears this may be possible. Under the Menu -> General -> MIDI Settings -> MIDI , here is the manual text, “When this is set to “Off,” they (MIDI terminals) are used as Port 2 (USB-MIDI interface). In this case, MIDI messages received by the MIDI [IN] terminal are output without alteration to USB Port 2 (MIDIOUT2 (YC Series))”. From that it appears that an external controller plugged into the YC MIDI-in should be able to pass through to the USB out (eg, to control an iPad). I’d love to know if this actually works and if there are any quirks. Do your recall if you tested it with this setting?
@@TeeMost OK, got it. I assumed you meant 'can you control BOTH onboard and iOS' from the ext MIDI controller. So yes, on the YC, if you set Menu/General/MIDI Settings/MIDI Port/MIDI to the OFF position, then an external MIDI controller can pass MIDI control info to the USB stream and control IOS sound modules. Just retested here, works. Of course you give up controlling the YC sound in favor of the IOS this way. This could easily be a complete video series on this topic probably lol.
@@Featherlightstudio Thanks for testing, yes I suppose I had hoped it was possible to route MIDI to both the YC sound engine and an iOS device, in a Mainstage-esque manner, but I guess it’s one or the other. That still might work - my goal is to be able to cover any occasionally-needed sounds that aren’t present in the YC engines without the hassles of a laptop. So as an example, play piano/organ on the YC keyboard, and use a split MIDI controller to cover brass on the YC keys-B engine, and also route to Korg module for something like steel drums. You’re right, you could likely turn this topic into a whole video, haha. Thanks again for having a look at this, I’m leaning towards a YC-73 and trying to make sure my bases are covered.
