    Nice job Phill 😁. Must have cost a fortune on the old Aluminium tape, I love that stuff. I even used it on my stool challenge for the inside. Thanks for the video. 😁👍.

      Thanks Frank. I had a roll left over from another project. I didn't use much for the Hatch still have a good amount left on the roll 😃. Yea it is good stuff it sticks really well and cuts easily and cleanly.

    Hi mate great job, I'm looking at changing mine to a drop down hatch by adding hinges and making a new board out of mdf, Have you done anything like this before as trying to find videos on but can't see any, I have a idea on how to do it but wanted to check before hand. I also want to fit a Metel loft ladder too when done.

      @PhillWyattProjects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have also been thinking about doing this but haven't got round to it yet. I can't really advise as I don't have the experience. Someone in the comments might be able to help when reading your message hopefully 🤞

  • @SinnisjInsulator

    Ya that attic hatch was definitely a patch job. I would also recommend topping the attic to an r50 at least so the framing has sone insulation over it. Saw the 2*4 as you removed the attic hatch. This improvement would cost at most 1-2k canadian and would save massively on cooling and heating bills. Great video btw.

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure what you could make out from the video but I can see that there is some old fibreglass insulation between the rafters and then a new layer over that about 6" thick. This goes a fair way over over the framing. Does this sound like an r50 type set up?

    • @SinnisjInsulator
      @SinnisjInsulator 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhillWyattProjects that sounds more like an r32 or 10 inches of fiberglass batts. That would not be enough as batts have voids in between and may not cover the top plates of the outside walls well enough. R50 loosefill fiberglass is 18.5 inches. I install r60 in new homes in Canada at 22.25 inches. You can check my attic insulation channel to see examples.

      @@SinnisjInsulator thanks very much for the info. I don't know too much about attic insulation. I will check out your channel 👍

      Happy you did. I'm an attic Insulator for the past 3 years in Canada. I complete about 3 homes per day on average so I see attics of all shapes and sizes lol.

    Why didnt you add 100mm+ of PIR ?

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Looking back I probably should have although I have since added some more insulation and now its over 100mm thick on top.

  • @philmcguinness669
    @philmcguinness669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you think it's made a difference?

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't really know to be honest because I changed the back windows also after I did this. It's hard to measure. I'm sure it has though because it's like adding an extra layer of clothing.

  • @GhostOfCountNumber
    @GhostOfCountNumber 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Why didn't you not use a piece of insulation foam large enough to cover the whole hatch lid? Could have gone right to the edge of the board and dropped it into place. What a palaver!

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, the plan was to use up the stuff I had as to now spend much money. So I just used scraps of Insulation.
