Excellent tutorial for anyone new to servicing Land Rovers with 4 cylinder engines up to and including the 300tdi engine. The theory, practice on the rule of nine on 4 cylinder engines for adjusting valve clearances, showing tools and the correct method for adjustment.
Thanks Chris, even 7 years on this great video is helping me out, mine was making a bit of a racket, just adjusted them (some were too tight!) and all sounds a lot better.
I tried to explain this to my buddy then I found this. After watching your fine vid he done his valves and he done a good job. Thanks for posting this vid.
+dumptonpark Glad it was helpful.
Great video, might pick up a set of those cranked feeler gauges because they look to much easier to use. Congratulations on the sponsorship too.
Haynes manual for my Series IIA says to do this while the engine is hot. You say it should be done cold.
What is the difference?
I saw that you can lift one tire, put it in fifth gear, and turn the tire to turn the engine without messing with the crank. What do you think?
Super helpful thanks so much.
Great vid, as always from you. I'm having difficulty removing the rocker cover on a series 3 diesel because someone has basically glued it down with gasket sealant. I don't want to get too rough with it. Can't find you vid on how to remove the rocker cover. Link please?
just tap it with a soft hammer to break the gasket seal. It won't be holding it on that tightly.
Cheers for that. You wouldn't believe how much you have helped me, complete novice, to get to grips with my series Landy since I bought it. There are some good videos out there but the videos you put out there are comprehensively instructional and have walked me through many an operation I wouldn't have had a clue with otherwise. Like your, down to earth manner; makes me smile when I watch too. Thanks very much for everything so far.
Very happy to hear. Thank you.
will incorrect clearances cause fuel consumption to be high? and use oil?..... love all the vids thanks for uploading this
+dan r Not high oil usage. Valve clearances means you get poor power performance from an engine.
***** hmmmm i'll sort it before i sell it then :) thanks for the reply fella.
+dan r you are welcome
I've got a disco 300tdi auto edc, it does sound a bit on the tappy side, just lately I'm getting a problem when the engine is warm it takes an age to pull away from a junction or traffic light, there's no power but then suddenly the power kicks in, could this possibly be down to incorrect valve setting?
Normally it's quite brisk off the mark
leaking vacume pipe
Informative!!!👍👍👍
Thanks very much👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🇳🇿🇳🇿
Would valves being out of adjustment cause this noise? th-cam.com/video/zw1ib4EFPSg/w-d-xo.html
Do you try to sound so condescending or does it come naturally?
It just sounds that way to people with serious inferiority complexes that need to reaffirm their condition.
@@trailerfitter2 great response, i couldn't feel more confident in listening to you describe/explain things
