Haha! Not even the contrived cacophany of those brass middle bits that have something to do with the plot can take away from the pure joy of George Formby's performance!
What fantastic entertainment. This kind of stuff just does not exist today. Here is a wonderful extract from a George Formby song, I know not which, that just captures his wonderful risque humour of his songs and recordings.. "A crowd outside the bakers in town, what they saw it made them frown, 'cause a tart in the window was upside down" George co-wrote a lot of stuff with Eddie Latta, who was a local undertaker in Warrington who buried George when he died
ive gotta say im a big fan of the Formby. its a shame the younger generation couldnt get introduced to his music like i was when i was younger. i will always be a fan of old gormless george
I'm really intrigued by this scene. Apparently the bandleader and one of the musicians are enemy agents of some kind, and what appears to be just a cheerful, upbeat song has had secret messages incorporated into it for the bad guys on a submarine to hear on this radio broadcast. Fortunately, the British government is also aware of this and deciphers the message as well. The bad guys must be German - this is during World War II - but it sounds like they're speaking English as they figure out the code. I like this clever, unexpected juxtaposition of the lighthearted music and a nefarious secret plot.
The best George Formby song. Love it.....beg ya pardon! Look out for Betty Driver from Corrie, one of the three singers with George, she is the one furthest from him.
Actually they still show these films, shows, even old comercials, there are many networks on television now like, TV land and many others, they have a network for everything one soly ment on video games. Im was born in 92' and I watch them all the time.
If you are near Ealing Broadway there's a church on the Uxbridge road with a big stone thing outside with the words to this song on it I believe the film was made in the nearby Ealing studios as a few of his films were
@JFredUK Yes, I was also a kid in the 70s/80s and used to watch (and love) Formby films shown on the BBC. I suspect the majority of kids these days would just find it boring. The good thing is the best films have been released on DVD, but beware of cheap bad reproduction unofficial copies.
In the USSR, this film was released during the war since 1943 under the title "George from Dinky Jazz." He was very famous. This song was performed in the USSR after the war in Russian, because Britain and the USSR fought together against the Nazis.
When the film was made in 1940 the USSR was invading Poland with their Nazi allies before moving on to invade Finland . They are still invading places today.
OK, so the music is a bit corny, but I love the photography, the staging, and the message it sends. We really need to count our blessings and smile. This is from 1940, and so am I!
I'm sorry you (charizard4410) take my comment harshly and haven't noticed the tongue in cheek order I suggest punishment! - actually I've been noted as having a very catholic taste in music , anything from Status Quo to Sibelius - excluding only opera and what I call 'twiddly classical' I absolutely agree each person has his/her own tastes but surely each also has a right to make comment all beit TIC about other's tastes.
Given the time period, the state of the world and what the uk was going through at the time. To me this is the most creepiest thing ever😂 I know it was suppose to be uplifting at the time but it’s just so unnerving
If only people did as George sings here, then the world would be a better place.
This is a man we need now in this sad world we live in now!
Cannot get enough of this Song
and The Great Mr. George Formby !
💖And now back to Cleanin' Windas~
Im only 71 and I think this is great stuff.
Haha! Not even the contrived cacophany of those brass middle bits that have something to do with the plot can take away from the pure joy of George Formby's performance!
Nothing like Formby to cheer you up and make you feel better.
This performance must have raised so many spirits in 1940. Cheers George.
Or terrified people. He’s creepy as hell
@someguy42093 hey, George Formby is a National treasure

From what i've heard the brass bits are to tell the coordinates of british merchant ships.
The best George Formby song. Love it.....beg ya pardon! Look out for Betty Driver from Corrie, one of the three singers with George, she is the one furthest from him.
Oh...Dash it!

Actually they still show these films, shows, even old comercials, there are many networks on television now like, TV land and many others, they have a network for everything one soly ment on video games. Im was born in 92' and I watch them all the time.

@Jimflirts I'm only 11, 9 when I found George, but age doesn't matter really. We are all allowed to like him =) lol
Love this Guy!

here from A League of Their Own (2022)
Great performance, maybe too 'cheesy' for modern tastes but I think its genuine and positive 👍🏻
He truly is the godfather of the ukulele
Fuck, how I love george formby
@Nojnotpu
I reckon that one's called 'Have you ever heard this one?'
I don't know why I'm scared of old films : I
Slack made the brilliant commercial with this song
George Harrison

One of my favourites too. Check out my collection, which I am gradually replacing with High Quality versions.

That's really great to hear. You should have a go at learning the ukulele :o)
Lovely song from dear George.
What was the message? Was it "H" "3.30"?
OK, so the music is a bit corny, but I love the photography, the staging, and the message it sends.
We really need to count our blessings and smile. This is from 1940, and so am I!
He´s voice sounds a lot like Joel Gray´s..... (the guy that plays Emce in "Cabaret")
Could we have some more songs uploaded?
Pause at 3:22. x)
Anyone the girl trio singing with George.
Never Let Me Go brought me here.

¿Can somebody tell me who are the singers?
@amyrocket123 - Perhaps it's not to their taste, not everyone likes this sort of music.
So why does Abba get credit for inventing the music video?
:)
Who came here from Never Let Me Go?👀
Given the time period, the state of the world and what the uk was going through at the time.
To me this is the most creepiest thing ever😂
I know it was suppose to be uplifting at the time but it’s just so unnerving
Because they don't know what proper music is!
Does anyone know if Beryl is the blonde in the middle?
P.s who knows why he keeps on saying: "who wants to die?" ?
Just rhymes on "sing high"
