Probably the best episode in this series so far for these two reasons. 1). Giving him his score after his first attempt gives him the opportunity to see in what areas he has it wrong, which is usually the ingredients, and allows him to make adjustments. A lot of the time he second guesses himself and either adds or doesn't add ingredients he thinks might or might not be in there, which actually are/aren't, so seeing that his ingredient score was so low meant he had to think harder about what needed to change. 2). I believe this is the first episode where they actually told him what ingredients he missed or added that weren't actually in the recipe. There were two not mentioned (he used olive oil instead of vegetable oil and added oregano) which are only small things but i personally would like to see/hear EVERY ingredient mentioned just so he knows what he got wrong.
I thought the scoring was pretty weak, at least for Appearance. The shade of the pastries was not the same, the sauce didn't look the same, one of his pockets exploded and/bc he missed the vents. Idk how that equates to a 96 given the simplicity of the dish (at least outwardly).
love how they listened to the viewers and allowed him to see his score after the first round, allows him to improve far more and get as close as possible!
They really could pick more interesting recipes tho. Like it’s really hit or miss when it comes to the recipe being an interesting one to reverse engineer. It should be more complex than a calzone with a dipping sauce.
@@hensonjefd8681 true, there were some curveballs. But it’s still pretty standard in most ways. They had Chris do Cornish pasties in the past and this episode is essentially the same but with different ingredients. The form and technique of the dish matters just as much as the ingredients.
really wish chris could have had a run at a Matty recipe that wasn’t made on the fly specifically for a sponsor. his chicken & dumplings or duck (cowboy) confit would have been insanely cool to see but maybe next time
So this is a really weird question but have they ever tried throwing one of his own recipes at him? Am I the only person who really wants to see Chris Morocco get a Chris Morocco dish? Like either he’s Rain Man and gets it immediately or it’s even more hysterical as he tries to dissect something that he created! I feel like this needs to happen!
Haven't finished the video yet, but I'm a huge fan of the mid critique. Since it's just a piece of paper, it's super easy to get salty at it, and then just worry about what you missed. Big fan!
Love this concept! I think a whisper challenge would be really fun here. Person A cooks smt Person B blind tests it and tries to recreate it without knowing what it is Person C repeats Person B Would be interesting to see a calzone evolve into something else after a few rounds
It would be interesting to have an episode where after the reveal, Chris has a third taste and one more attempt at making it. Will he score better after seeing it? Presumably, but there's still plenty of technique to fall down on - or maybe his eyes will actually trick him into making an ingredient switch
I'm binge watching this even though I am not typically a fan of BA. Love the clogs, Chris ... we RNs wear them every day, perfect for long hours on your feet!
The thing I'm the most disappointed about in the new version of Bon Appetit is the lack of recipe videos... There used to be more of them and it was really interesting to hear how recipes got developped and etc
So apparently just tell chris to try harder and he will go off!!! See the show kind of changed to how closely can Chris make it taste like the original. I'm glad you guys showed him the score, I wish the person would taste his version with him before he does the second taste.
I want to see Chris say something like this during his shopping list "I can definitely taste 10+ make 3 score waygu strip. Maybe some 24hr smoked brisket... And I guess if we have anything left over I guess we have a snack for later"
These blindfolds send me. Also, why is it whenever Chris thinks there is an ingredient in something, he second guesses himself and completely goes another direction but his first guess is right.

WHY DO A DISH THAT WAS A WEIRDO SPONSORED MUNCHIES BANANA TOWN RECIPE HAHAHHAHAHAHHA WHO CARES ABOUT THIS DISH ANYWAY CHRIS KILLED IT THO
Matty the man
😂🤣
He called it a chaotic chefs dish lol.....MICHELLE 🤣🤣
WE LOVE YOU MATTY 💗
Is matty the new Guy Fieri?
“It’s full on but it’s also like a little bit demented too.” That’s Matty Matheson!
I love how he explains Matty perfectly without knowing who he is actually talking about. Chaotic is definitely Matty.
atfer he said its like looking in a mirror it shows how he thinks about himself aswell he feels so reserved in the scope of youtube chefs lol
Matty went to the BA kitchen years ago to make fish tacos with brad. Im pretty sure he knows matty.
@@evanmcd1986 pretty sure they're referring to the way Chris was describing the dish before he knew who made it
Lol yes he called it a bit demented
I’m obsessed with you Chris! You are funny and yet so food knowledgeable. Makes for great entertainment!

Agreed
Totally agree

I like the grading mid way though. I can see it being both a blessing and a curse. It adds a little twist to how this works.
love how they listened to the viewers and allowed him to see his score after the first round, allows him to improve far more and get as close as possible!
"Why bring Nduja to the rodeo if you're inviting hot sauce as well?" Because Matty made this basically on the fly for a Cholula sponsor.
exactly what i thought - it's a dish to "highlight" cholula so its everywhere...
Lmao oh that’s hilarious
Love the idea of giving Chris the first attempt scores!
I 100% agree! :)
yup , but I think printing it on a paper is unnecessary 😅.
id love to see him recreate a vegan dish that’s supposed to imitate a non-vegan dish. would be a challenge i think 😂
Using non vegan ingredients!
Omg yes! Anything with jackfruit would really put him off
@@sarahsmith69 or we could just do normal food that people eat
Yes, vegan food, always trying to imitate non-vegan food.
@@rupincr6082 I'm willing to bet that more people eat jackfruit on the regular than nduja
These reverse engineering videos are my happy place. Chris being back in the test kitchen is 👩🏽🍳🤌🏼
They really could pick more interesting recipes tho. Like it’s really hit or miss when it comes to the recipe being an interesting one to reverse engineer. It should be more complex than a calzone with a dipping sauce.
@@funkychilldude I agree. Hopefully it is next time
@@funkychilldude while I agree, this isn't your basic calzone with dipping sauce lmao
@@hensonjefd8681 true, there were some curveballs. But it’s still pretty standard in most ways. They had Chris do Cornish pasties in the past and this episode is essentially the same but with different ingredients. The form and technique of the dish matters just as much as the ingredients.

He has a secret ingredient in his shepherd's pie. Chris would never guess it.
I just love when he says something and you can Tell he got the sense of what the ingredient was, like his tongue new and understood. It's incredible
This series is the only reason I still visit the BA channel.
Some of the it's alive videos are still good, but yeah.
Honestly, your just close-minded. There's some good news chefs, and the wine guy is really good. But just keep on hating my friend.
The wine guy though!

Matty is a great chef to imitate for this series because he's such a mad genius. Nduja in a pizza pocket is just incredible.
I like the break in format - giving Chris his scores after the first round! His reaction to that "Taste" score was hilarious!
the only bon appetit video series that I still watch
Haven't finished the video yet, but I'm a huge fan of the mid critique. Since it's just a piece of paper, it's super easy to get salty at it, and then just worry about what you missed. Big fan!

Would be interesting to see a calzone evolve into something else after a few rounds
good idea
like cooking telephone, that would be a really funny
I'd like to see if one of Chris's own recipes could psyche him out.
It would UNHINGE him
To be honest I think he is so good he would just be "Oh, this is my *insert dish*"
He's way too good for that. Plus if he has ever looked at the comments on ANY of these videos he would have seen the idea.
psych
THIS! Pleasepleaseplease
I miss the shopping portion of these videos. They need a test kitchen grocery store in the building. Complete with a cart.
I agree the shopping bits were always really fun, I hope they can get back to doing those again soon
I’d love for someone else to do a reverse engineering ep - just so we can all appreciate how good Chris is at this!
I’m legit so proud of Chris fir nailing that nduja
We need Matty back on BA with a Brad or Chris ep!!!!
I would love to see Chris go noodling!
@@roninhunter i doubt matty would agree to go back lol
He's busy wearing diapers and making out with Benny Blanco 🤣😂
@@DJB1017 I wish he would make another season of “Just a Dash” the last season was absolutely out of this world
Rhoda ❤️ also Chris eating em in the most Chris way possible
her smile is sooo contagious
I really like the addition of allowing Chris to see the first scorecard comparison.
I mean, doing a Matty dish was inevitable, but the Cholula sponsorship meat pocket? Why not the donair kebabs he made?
the concept and execution of this show is always awesome, love it
5:19 I replayed this look 5 or 6 times. It's so amazing.

Favorite series! Just got out of surgery and had just enough energy to watch this and now I'm going to sleep 💤😴
I swear Chris Morocco is my gateway drug to the rest of the bon appetit videos.
"It's full on, but also a bit demented." If that isn't a perfect description of Matty, idk what is.
Yessss I’m so glad you did one of Marty’s recipes👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Chris your taste buds are a rock star, very impressive.
"I just went for The Seam"
Category: Things said by both Chris Morocco and President Snow (The Hunger Games)
This video was such a delight to watch! Really warmed my heart ❤❤
I feel like Chris needed some non penalizing help. I like that he gets his scores
I'm calling shenanigans on Chris figuring out the n'duja sausage on his own.
I think giving him the scores at halftime was a great idea, love these vids
Im only sad that Matty himself couldn't make an appearance in the video. Matty in the test kitchen is always gold
Chris was so funny and confident in this one, loved it!
"Chaotic" "Like looking in a mirror"
Does Chris think he's chaotic? I mean this in the best way possible but he's not chaotic, he's like a robot lol
I love how perfectly he described this dish to reflect Matty 😅
I swear I think someone is tipping this man off lol... Nduja... C'mon
I like the new format, makes much more sense.
he figured out hot sauce and gorgonzola, AND Nduja but dinged hard for different tomato products?? that was a 95%!
I'm binge watching this even though I am not typically a fan of BA. Love the clogs, Chris ... we RNs wear them every day, perfect for long hours on your feet!
I adore these videos…my favourite of everything you do
"he's got you in his sights . . . unfortunately, the bandit is defeated"
Chris is BA's Top Gun.
This man is unreal. Well done
looooove that Chris is finally seeing his actua first round scores
The masks get me every time 😂 😂 he’s such a good sport
No fresh cracked pepp in a Matty Matheson dish! I’m calling shenanigans!
I would have loved matty to come in and judge this one!
Appreciate the format updates
In future episodes I’d like to see Chris told the chef’s name after the first attempt to see how that impacts his choices.
i do love that they used matty's face for the censoring loooool
I could see Chris being a schill for the issues BA experienced last year.
The thing I'm the most disappointed about in the new version of Bon Appetit is the lack of recipe videos... There used to be more of them and it was really interesting to hear how recipes got developped and etc
wonderful video. So glad the test kitchen is back somewhat. Also, making Chris do Matty recipes is really funny
Only thing missing is Matty's reactions throughout.
"That's f**king made up tv bull***t!!" HAHA love it.
I really like the "give him the scores" bit
I just love this segment! Keep em coming bon appetite and Chris!!
> I would throw in some cayenne
* Chef John has entered the chat.
Anything matty chris and brad I click
Leave it to Matty to make a recipe that makes a really fun episode of this show :D
I am incredibly impressed by his skills
Seeing Chris in the test kitchen makes my whole heart sing.
12:58 nearly pee'd my pants when you said, "looking in the mirror".
friendly reminder they were all complicit but especially brad
"Chris put the Cap on the back of the pen" Kicked my OCD in right away.
So apparently just tell chris to try harder and he will go off!!! See the show kind of changed to how closely can Chris make it taste like the original. I'm glad you guys showed him the score, I wish the person would taste his version with him before he does the second taste.
Yes!!! It’s so good for things to be more normal!
I want to see Chris say something like this during his shopping list "I can definitely taste 10+ make 3 score waygu strip. Maybe some 24hr smoked brisket... And I guess if we have anything left over I guess we have a snack for later"
favorite episode of recreating series!!!!
GOD I love Chris Morocco!!!!
These reverse engineering videos are really the only reason I watch BA anymore. Since everyone left, it's just not the same anymore.
These blindfolds send me. Also, why is it whenever Chris thinks there is an ingredient in something, he second guesses himself and completely goes another direction but his first guess is right.
Lol ! That was a High C or low B. I always grade Chris below what they tell him. They are way soft on him. xD
I love this show! Chris is sooo knowledgeable!!
Them Saint John people are a heck of a thing.
Love Rhoda and Chris!
RHODA!!!! an icon we missed you!!
I just… I can’t anymore…. I need the family back together…
Technique is definately at least 90%
New fan of the whole BA family and I am for sure going to be early to new videos now!
I loveeee the chemistry of all these cooks/chefs! xx
I think chris is the most talented person in the test kitchen. I would love to some day get to create with him and brad
He's doing his best John McEnroe impression, and he his not wrong.
Chris- It's full on, but it's also a little bit demented too.
Matty- You rang?
MORE CHAOTIC RECIPES YES
this series lowkey reminds me of machine learning everytime i watch
I love these videos,
This was so fun to watch
Judging by the time I’m sure he gets close. *presses play to make sure
Man do I love his knife
Gorgonzola, mayo and sour cream sounds like an absolute nightmare to taste....
