    Im a young guy (24) here in Australia. I bought my interceptor six months ago, first thing i did is bar end mirrors, and as soon as I had the money, a full Verex Exhaust. The jerky throttle sounds like a maintenance problem. These use a cable throttle, so cables do have to be lubricated, and then eventually replaced. As you said, this bike is surprisingly fast and a pleasure to ride.

    After a test ride on the interceptor I ordered a touring seat for my new bike. Turns out the touring seat is in style only and just as hard as the standard one. My advise, get the standard seat reupholstered with comfort foam as I did and it transforms the riding experience. Richard

    The jerky throttle response at low speed means there is something wrong with this particular bike. In other words this is not typical. Sometimes people overfill the gasoline tank when refueling and this is a mistake as per the owner's manual. There is a metal ring just inside the fill hole, the manual instructs to stop filling when the fuel level achieves the height of this ring. Otherwise liquid fuel can enter the charcoal canister (EVAP canister) and the jerky behavior you describe is a typical result. Either the canister must be replaced or the fuel soaked canister can be repaired by cutting it open and discarding the ruined charcoal, replacement charcoal is cheap and then glue the canister back together.

      Many 650 owners are ditching the evap system alltogether,, its a common problem and a simple solution.. Its a problem waiting to happen , many videos on utube how this is done with full explanation .

    • @doughoffman9463
      @doughoffman9463 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@aladinfox4098 Many owners are also removing their catalytic converters and air injection systems. In many states in the US this is illegal. Regardless, the EPA and CARB also see these how-to videos and they are not pleased. It is easier if you just fill the fuel tank per the owner's manual instructions your evap canister will live a long life and not foul the air. p.s., Where does the liquid fuel go, upon overfilling, once you have removed the canister?

      @@doughoffman9463the excess fuel runs through the tube that WAS attached to the charcoal canister; even so, I have never had any fuel visible under my 2020 750INT and I have put over 600 gallons through it. At the 3-year interval (27,500 miles) I installed Wiseco 83.5mm pistons and an S&S cam, that was over 15,000 miles ago. With the AIS deleted the bike doesn't backfire, idle is steady and fueling/throttling is perfect. I never took the charcoal canister off my bike and I only fill to the bottom of the ring, leaving room for the gas cap.

    I had one as a loaner while my bike was in for a service. It was all pretty standard until I went around a few corners . The handling is superb for a retro. But its not a retro because the old bikes would try to kill you if you got too "Barry Sheene". Very impressive - it does what it says on the tin.
    Your negatives - in my aged opinion :-
    - exhausts - yes, they're probably very heavy and restrictive. I'd only consider replacing them with chrome ones that looked similar - but I wouldn't bother because performance (on _this_ bike) and mpg isn't a thing for me.
    - seat comfort (lol) -try one with no sponge! - you just have to ride it more to...acclimatise
    - fueling is snatchy - well, they lean them out for emissions - there's probably a engine map tweak or fix for it - not that i would bother, I see this sort of thing as a symptom of the modern world , things are so refined these days, engines start on the button, tires that actually grip in the rain, brakes that don't fade away under heavy braking etc etc. Bikers will start complaining about transmission noise soon !
    Sorry but if you spend £600 sorting all this out don't complain about the price of petrol!
    Nice road test -enjoyed it.

    Great video, I look forward to more! I’ve had a Continental GT for three years now and I agree that maybe the bike is just a little too refined (maybe it’s because over the years I’ve owned quite a few genuine classic British bikes). It certainly isn’t a problem and I’m quite used to it now. I recommend applying Autosol paste to the polished engine surfaces, use a fairly coarse cloth to start with then polish it off with a really soft one - that engine will be gleaming in no time, believe me.

    Have you considered or driven the Kawasaki W800. It is the most accurate looking and feeling retro bike on the market. It has more character due to the 360 degree crank shaft, has more torque , similar horsepower and the fit and finish is beyond reproach. It does cost more than the Interceptor but worth the extra money in my mind. The Interceptor has a 270 degree crankshaft and is oil cooled while the W800 is a true air cooled engine. It is a basic bike without too many unnecessary features. Ride one before you decide on a new motorcycle. The Interceptor is a fine bike in it's own right but the Kawasaki quality and heritage is superb. It also uses a bevel gear drive shaft instead of a chain to drive the camshaft. It is a true 200,000km motorcycle and it is the prettiest retro bike available.

      I think the engine feels quite refined, more japanese than British. A British bike feels like a living breathing thing, the RE didn't have that. On my test ride i kept thinking of what if have to change to get the ergonomics more like my old Bonnie, that and the suspension for me where the 'RE was unrefined. The smooth engine is actually a plus point, but for me it lacked 'soul'. Overall, i liked the bike and felt with some adjustment it would be quite pleasant. Then i rode home on my Ducati. The Ducati is (unsuprisingly) "better" and still has a raw edge. However, the 'RE might win overall as it is a gentler more forgiving ride and better for carrying luggage when touring.

But true, the engines have been tuned to be lower performance with better low down torque and decent petrol consumption for Asian markets.
