Interceptor is needing an overhaul update. Better suspension is long overdue. But that twin engine is a gem.

I think goldstar suits indian conditions better having a 5 speed gearbox is also better because we all know that in india even 100 kmph is not sustainable for very long time you can get to the top gear in bsa in lower speeds compared to the 6 speed motorcycles.
I think the biggest issue with high displacement classic bikes is their size and because of that riding and using them in the city becomes quite challenging and the compact size better handling and the 5 speed gearbox with better low end makes the goldstar a really good bike for india.
    Good comparison i liked it.

@@SocialComment-t3n not true buddy, I used to own interceptor 650 and I used to sit around at 100 to 120 all day long even my average trip speeds on my GPS would show me around 60-70kmph which is absolutely possible considering the stoppage and the traffic.
I took a test drive of Goldstar and believe me in person this motorcycle does not impress, some parts on the motorcycle are very high-quality and the others are very low quality and they stick out like a sore thumb, I know interceptor is not quality benchmark but at least it is consistently boring and okay-ish, and nothing on the motorcycle catches your eye out of the ordinary.
Even after using proper brembo brakes the stopping power is not good, those brembos are for bragging rights more or less.
The engine is very buzzy and the presenters in the video are downplaying it just because it is one of the best large single cylinder out there i agree, but again its not the same as a twin cylinder.
Also even though the six gear on the interceptor is virtually useless only shaving of 500 RPM But it makes those 500 RPM count by eliminating vibes even more at 100kph and putting that engine into very comfortable position at 4.2k rpm for 100kph which is just shy of half of what interceptor can do at full. Keeping the engine nice and unstressed.
Also the fact that a twin cylinder motorcycle by design will run far less complication free as the demand is shared by 2 pistons.
I don't see a price to Product ratio here as interceptor involves twice as many parts to manufacture the engine and exhaust and yet both the motorcycles are price the same.
GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT THE SUPER METEOR IS ACTUALLY WAY BETTER QUALITY THAN BOTH THE BSA AND INTERCEPTOR.

    My view:
I owned a first gen interceptor for about 2 yrs.
    Recently rode the BSA Goldstar.
Looks, fit n finish: I found Goldstar better in fit n finish and that classic retro looks compared to interceptor
Weight distribution: Goldstar felt much better in handing in city traffic, better ergonomics and great seat hight to sit and ride that longer distances.
Better pull power in mid range
Vibrations are more with Goldstar compared to Interceptor.
Durability would be a question for Goldstar as it’s too new in India to analyse.

In the UK the bsa is let down by a poor dealer network and backup. The initial pricing on the BSA was far too expensive also. The pricing of the BSA is now more competitive, however the BSA now competes with the guerilla and the speed 400 which provide better value.

  • @shree397
    @shree397 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

A quite honest review on both:
So I took a test ride BSA and I own an interceptor 650 and frankly BSA it is a great motorcycle on its own.
1.But when you put it against interceptor it comes as an i20 3 three cylinder versus a Suzuki four-cylinder difference . It's noticeably more buzzy, both on foot peg and handlebars and quite honestly my dudes on TH-cam are downplaying how Buzzy that engine is but then I gave an example of i20 3 cylinder and what I mean is it's very well refined for single cylinder. But you will always have that single cylinder buzz to it when you compare it to the smooth twin. The same story is true for twin versus in-line four.
And I do not agree with TH-cam reviewers saying BSA they're relaxed at a 100 km/h, because the engine might be relaxed, but it surely doesn't mean you feel relaxed with its constant buzz.
2.BSA is noticeably more comfortable , you can buy new 2024 touring seat from Royal enfield which is a god send with riding gear on, but then as standard BSA is noticeably comfortable.
3.Yes you did not miss the sixth gear because virtually interceptor six gear makes 500 rpm difference.
    4. Interceptor if ridden with a gentle roll on at 100 km/h has delivered me 28 km/L for the past four years.(can't comment on BSA haven't done a grand tour on it)
    5. Quality levels in general are superior on BSA but not consistent. Interceptor it feels like a motorcycle built on a budget unlike the trend smashing super meteor.
    6. Heat management on interceptor is definitely superior even with old school layout, but on BSA it feels like the heat is thrown out at rider,as the radiator is blowing heat on to you
    7. Both the motorcycles have very poor speedo quality 😅 both of them feel cheap, and as interceptor owner that fuel gauge has a mind of its own, and it is incorrect 99% of the times😂.
    8. I hope the electrical components on BSA is better than Royal enfield, on Enfield it's decent but nothing to be proud about.
    9. The character of the motorcycles are very different, RE650 is very eager to get up to some serious illegal speeds for India, and will stay there for as long as you ask it to, doing 160kmph (aprox 100mph) and staying there for a good 1 to 2 hours is something RE 650 can do every every time you ask it, but BSA does not like to stick to stick to those kind of speeds (and honestly you don't have to, 100kmph is more than enough), but the point is RE650 can do that relatively relaxed.
    10. On the handling front I have to say I find interceptor way better especially with good tires even though BSA is lighter, it has that awkward weight shift (maybe it's just me)
    11. Headlights on both the motorcycles suck hard😅, but with BSA and interceptor base variant with halogens, you can change the headlight bulb for your liking (osram night breaker 200 or 220 & Phillips racing GT 200 both 55/60W but put out more lumens due to high pressure gas fill, please don't put LEDs on a halogen reflector setup)

Nice detailed review... I yesterday rode bsa goldstar the best thing I like is weight management.. And seating posture is very good in bsa... How ever one has to lean forward and it's not comfortable for a short heighted person like me .. Whereas in bsa I felt quite upright and in command... Can't say on long term .. But I wud go for bsa

    • @shree397
      @shree397 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@Aarav_arts-B go for it but remember to contemplate that its a single and will you be able to live with a single when a twin is same price and 1500rs will get you angled bar risers from carbon racing that solves your problem of handle bar reach and upright posture.
For me personally I will spend 5-10k to modify interceptor to suit my taste rather than committing my self to a single which is definitely vibration prone (no fault of BSA it's just how single cylinder works).

I just bought a gold star 650 . I really liked the brakes and torque performance of the engine . Once you are in the second gear , you can fell the power and punch. It’s a single engine but still have enough power to put a smile in your face . The main thing is brakes , even if you have a twin cylinder but stopping power is more important especially in Indian roads . Brembo brakes comes with standard ceramic brakes. These are expensive but worth the investment. At this point of time in India where 400cc bike are quite normal . It all comes down to your choice and preference. All thanks to RE for setting up the culture in India. But we need more competition, so that at the end consumers get the benefit.
    Pros :
    1 . Torquey Engine
    2. Brakes
3 Upright seat position and pillion comfort
4 . Heat is manageable (Tested in Bengaluru traffic from Silk Board to Sarjapura Signal😂)
    5. Road Presence (Mine : insignia red)
    Cons:
    Not much accessories are available.
    Halogen headlamp.

Just came back from BSA650 test drive albeit a short one.
I could do only ride 15 minutes in city and was able to use only upto gear-3.
I am a returning biker in early 40s, 5ft6" and 77Kg, and an INT650 owner (Cali Green 2024 model) which will be the reference.
Looks are subjective, hence not discussing here. For me both looks equally good.
BSA look great from a distance, but smaller compared to IN650.
It is light weight, nimble, agile and east to handle in traffic compared to INT650. Can be a good city bike.
Seats are good, breaks are very good.
Low end torque is very good (very useful n city speeds)
Stock seats and tyres are slightly better compared to INT650.
That being said, i would rank INT50 better on other aspects .
Build quality is normal and not as raved by reviewers. Switch gear, paint quality, side panels, mirrors are all of average quality.
To me Triumph Scrambler 400 would be the bench mark for quality at 3 lakh segment. INT650 is slightly below and BSA650 is even lower.
I feel INT650 is well put together and can last longer compared to BSA650.
BSA engine note is average and commuterish. Twins on INT650 are so much sweeter. Triumph Srambler 400 and Honda CB350 has better notes for singles.
Addressing the elephant in the room, the engine which is the soul. INT650 for me any day.
Numbers and timings may be similar on paper, but there is no comparison between the feeling generated between the two.
Refinement and power delivery are so much better on INT650 and is always a pleasure to drive.
BSA has vibrations in lower gears and specially 1. Not sure since when you-tubers started calling vibrations as character.
Gear shifts are better in INT650, where i can also easily do rev-matching. This was not the case for BSA650.
I have to mention there are couple of mods in my INT650 (touring seats, BMC air filter, iridium spark plugs, silencers upgrade).
However this has transformed the INT650 even further, and hence may be my reference point is much higher.
All in all a great attempt by BSA, and i wish them good luck.
Also i feel the design team at CL is doing a great job with all the bikes in the portfolio.
We need good competition for RE to keep them in check and not have monopoly.

    Chassis design: BSA ✅

other than that, the 2 bikes are just identical to each other.

I owned both the 650 giants. I've seen and read many reviews and comparisons between the two. I can see that some reviews are done just after riding for an hour or less maybe. I find it irritating that just for the sake of having a content, sime darw to post a review they know so little about.
I have my own ideas about both the bikes because I have gone riding for more than 5000kms around the NE Indian states with eirher one of them. Maybe someday I will make a video or two regarding the two 650 giants. I am so proyd of the two because both are Indian products and they are compatible to other advanced Bike companies.
