I play Bassoon, so they wouldn't let me march. I ended up in percussion on marimba. I am sooo very thankful, because it was so extremely easy. I hated marching season so much. I just wanted to be there for concerts, but you had to do both. Marching band was so bad I dropped band after freshman year. Not my cup of tea, but soooo many people love it. I never knew how easy we had it in the "pit"!
Patchouli Colt i play bassoon as well and i was put on xylo in pit my freshman year. i’m bass four now this year and it’s band camp season and dude pit is so much easier tbh lol
Jackson Cassidy you will know how many counts you have to get to your dot by reading the music. it just all depends on how many beats there are in a measure. for example, if you are playing in 4,4 time (don't know how to type that lol) you will have four counts to get to your spot. how fast you go depends on the drum major! i think thats it, but I've forgotten a bit so i could be wrong. don't be afraid to ask your section leaders, other upperclassmen, or your instructors. thats what we're here for :)
Erin Weisser just never ask thr Band Directors because they will make fun of you😂😂 thats what my band directors did, they made you look dumb in front of everyone
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This Even Is Helpful After Doing This For Multiple Years

Very helpful, but what about marching from dot to dot? This may be a dumb question probably because ill be a freshman in a few months
If you still have your question, can you elaborate a little more. (I've been marching for 2 years so I may be able to help) :)
