Oh wow, the game is so well made that first I thought that this was made with a video editor as a "parody video". But it is an actual game, wow! Impressive!
I don't usually like how most new Pokemon-esk games look, but this has something to it. If there's some quality of life features like being able to select attacks for the next turn while attack animations are still playing or just otherwise adjustable animation speeds, I would definitely be into this.
We have SO many QoL features coming down the pipeline. A way to speed up battles the way I like to in Pokemon emulators or toggle them completely is definitely one of them. Choosing moves for future turns sounds like super cool idea, but would be crazy hard to implement since it's hard enough keeping the current battle system running smoothly.
I remember beta testing something like that for this game too. I'm really glad that the game has been released, instead of it becoming one of the things that would never be...
i hope these ponies are legally distinct enough to not get the game struck down because man this is good, good to see mlp and adjacent fangames still coming out and in development to this day
Last time hasbro sued over something like this, Lauren Faust stepped in and assisted the dev team when they had to start from zero. But that was all before maximum games cancelled the project obviously
@@Goat81093 Well, Pixar won over Rockstar North all those years ago in the DMA Design days. I could probably see Game Freak going after the healing center interior art, as that looks almost exactly like the Pokemon Center art from the Gen 4 games..
Google Play is giving us lots of problems at the moment. They were completely unresponsive on Labor Day, but now things are starting to proceed. Hopefully it's Live on Google Play by this evening.
Another question: even though the game's already out, if I buy the $200 patreon do you like update it to put in a brand new tamer? How's the "DLC" work as you mentioned in a previous comment?
We'll be able to put in as many new tamers as we like with the Battle Spot system, where there's special arenas placed all over the region where strong tamers appear at random, looking for opponents.
The DLC will come in 3 seasonal major updates called Act 1, Act 2, and Act 3. By the end of Act 3, the story will be complete and the postgame will be accessible. OC Tamers will begin to appear as soon as Act 1.
Those devs inspired me to take up programming in the first place a decade ago. Infinite respect for them. Even met some members of Mane6 and perhaps a collaboration of some kind lies ahead...
i could have sworn it was said this will come out on steam? is that still happening on a later timedate or did i just missread/missremember that? eitherway im probably going to play it
We're coming to Steam in a year or two once we complete all 4 parts of the story and do a huge menu overhaul to get the game 100% controller friendly. That'll be known as Battle Gem Ponies DX, as promised in our Kickstarter ⭐
i went to Google play to download it but it says it isn't compatible with my tablet so i can't download it. but i will download it once i get a tablet that it works for.
@@TempoQuill 16x16 pixel tile sprites will tend to look similar. Especially when it comes to things like "squares on the floor" and "beige wall" but I can assure you, Tony Yotes is the one who drew those squares. Not a GameFreak employee from 2002. Sure does have a familiar vibe though, huh? Monster Taming healing places.
It looks so generic and copied from other videogames. I don't know why you used the concept of "ponies" for this game, but if this is a parody one, well, there are better ones. It's all "pony" in this game. What's the deal with that?
Best explanation I've got is that I was just super into MLP in 2014 and the idea stuck around. Not sure I can convince you to try it, but if you tried out the demo I think you'd find the combat mechanics more interesting than you'd expect with its twists on familiar RPG mechanics.
Don't get stuck with MLP as main idea for your videogames. That franchise is still so problematic, even if some talented people tried to make something good with it.

I can't imagine going through the trouble of making all these assets and NOT making a real game with them.
holy shite that's some extremely detailed sprite work
We chose quality over quantity when it came to bringing our roster to life. 🖌😌

You can't really copyright the idea of cartoon ponies, only the specific characters of an IP.

That's such a silly and cute idea loving it
We even have the ponies giggle at the opponent when their attacks miss
The brony community is alive and well.
And it'll last for GENERATIONS to come!
Boy, I hope this doesn't attract a lawsuit from Hasbro or something. I could see them trying to shut it down for having an art style similar to MLP's.
Thankfully nobody can sue over art styles.
