Best review on the Mazda CX-50 yet! Love the detailed info on how the car drives and handles. So many reviews seem to focus on the features and details like how much piano black is in the interior, not the drive. I was concerned when Mazda went to the torsion bar that it would have a negative impact on the fun factor. Thank you, Mary
Just traded in my 2021 CX5 for the CX50 Carbon and love it. The panoramic sunroof was the winning catch. Just more wind and road noise but not bothersome.
Hi. We took Chrysler newports up rougher roads than that to the cabin 😄 Before choosing a CX50 you should consider the following: 1. The GT’s 20” rims and standard Goodyears (Canada) cannot be considered an off-road tire. Hopefully it works in winter but you don’t have much tread depth. 2. This is no competitor to a Subaru product as there is no suspension travel, little ground clearance and a metric tonne-load of plastic under the Mazda (can you find the oil filter DIY’s) 3. Fussy interior: Beautiful sure but it marks so easily and that surface around the shifter is hard to clean and scratches easily. 4. How do you clean the heads-up display that sits in the well in the dash and do you find the display in the glass distorted or clear? 5. Don’t count on great mileage and oil change intervals seem to be more frequent. 6. Body: so many crevices to trap sand and salt over winter = early rust potential? Just wondering (had literally miles of weather strip components) 7. Rear storage: Disappointing! The problem is the roof height. If you travel with small family consider bringing empty luggage to the dealership. You may find a CX5 works better as luggage can stand vertically back to back. Try it! 8. Purchase experience: Maybe this is happening every where but freight and PDI seems greatly inflated and acting like a surcharge. 9. Ergonomics: Not bad. Glad to see some buttons but the stitching on the steering wheel isn’t smooth, spokes are awkward and grip width at the 9 and 3 position aren’t good. You might agree after 500 miles. 10. Seats. Be sure you are ok with the Mazda designed butt-floss. This is weird and should be changed mid-production. Seats are hard. Bolsters are very hard. 11. Look hard at the CX5 before you buy the 50. 12. Outward visibility is poor due to the tall door sills and low seating position.
I watched the review. I have test drove a few CX-50 (different trims, turbo, non-turbo). I have read your comment. This is the case when a comment brings you closer to the reality than a review.
Really good review, thank you.. I just test drove the non-turbo version couple of days ago and for my application, it’s just find. Definitely getting one within couple of month…
Generally speaking, that's correct. But officially, EPA numbers only change between the two engines, not with tire, and not by that much. But, again, you're likely correct in the real world as the 17s will most likely have less rolling resistance.
You’re right, Dave. And Mazda did a good job with theirs. But, more gears usually expand the overall ratio range, which does help improve off-the-line acceleration as well as low engine speeds on the highway. But, critically, you need the right gear ratios and a good shifting strategy and Mazda has both of those with this six-speed.
That's exactly why I said "duct work design" and not duct work. As I spelled out in the video, even the front piece is mostly blank, but has some open channels down low and I show were they lead. That rear piece of plastic has the same design as in front, hence just a brief reference to the design of it.
I do. It opens up the cabin a lot and gives you a very good sense of your surroundings. The wheels look nice for what it was intended for - light off road use. You sound like a jeep wrangler user, just stick to those and not tarnish the Mazda brand. Thank you.
Had it been last year I would have bought this car to replace the old CR-V. What has happened since then? I discovered the Subaru for myself. It was a long way from "hating" CVT, to understanding CVT, and finally to accepting CVT. The rest of the Subaru is head and shoulders above Mazda. As to the wheels and the roof, I would buy a trim with regular wheels and no sunroof for the same reasons. BTW the sunroof on CX-50 is not "panoramic" as it has a solid beam in the middle.

You're very welcome. Glad you liked it. And thank you for your comment.
Very interesting….I have a Toyota Camry but I’m considering to buy this special machine…love it because it’s automatic transmission..no CVT👍👍👍
Dude needs to keep his hands on the wheel. Good review. Dig the growl from the turbo engine.
Great review Robin! I enjoyed the video.
Really glad to hear it. Thank you for commenting!
I test drove CX50 & CX5 last week. I’m wondering if CX50 Meridian edition will include fog lights?
Dude! Nice hat there! Go Blue! I'll have to watch you more. First time viewer here...
You're the first one to comment it. Yeah, that's my old, faded Alumni hat. Go Blue!
Aside from Ad every 30 seconds, nice review.
Thank you. Sorry the ads bothered you.
Great review. Well done👍🏻
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
if you want to optimize your fuel economy stay with the non turbo with 17s

In my experience more gears is not necessarily better. Some vehicles shift continually which I find annoying.

Duct work design at the rear? No, those are not functional. Only the front ones have air ducts.

Who wants 20 inch tires on an SUV? Also, I hate panoramic moonroofs; I never use my current sunroof.

@@cruiseadmiral Totally agree with you. I have no use for big moonroofs nor 20 inch tires.I like the car otherwise but doubt I will buy it.
