      Because it’s chrome, now days they make you wear blue suits and undress in a deacon tent

      Should be using forced vent before thinking about respirators

    Nice job, I used to do a ton of that stuff.... we used to STT the bead, gtaw hot and smaw the rest. for shop fab we used to use local heat with propolyne torches.PBF energy would let us dam either so we had to purge whole runs with argon.

    This material requires a PWHT after dropping to 80 Deg C after welding to rid itself of retained Austenite IIRC. Pity you didn't show that.
    Also a tip for the Cr Mo's especially - if you are doing a three bead cap put the center bead in last, extra hot or with a larger electrode or both, that way it tempers the HAZ in the base metal by the last two welds. Far less likely to crack if you don't do a degas which it didn't look like you did before you go into PWHT.
    Incidentally what is the reason for not going into a PWHT right away after the 80 Degree C hold...?
    Rusty 9Cr V material looks dodgy, normally it doesn't like to rust too much...?? Might have been outside in the rain for a few years...?? Might be something else?

    Where is the explanation for the need for the pre-heat?

    • @jwboilermaker
      @jwboilermaker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      9% chrome. 2 1/4 chrome also tends to fall in a 400° preheat range. 1 1/4 has a 200° preheat to procedures I weld to most times

      @LifetimeinWelding ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jwboilermakerthank you for the reply. Still no mention of the metallurgical or hydrogen control reasons to preheat or the carbon equivalent formula.

    Once the welding began it sounds like he's trying to swallow the microphone an nothing can be understood.
    A shame because I was interested in the video but when you don't know what is going on an you can't understand the person speaking it's pointless.
    It's cool that a pipe that size can be heated, controlled, an monitored around the globe by so many people.
    Hopefully the next video he will spit out the microphone 🎤

    • @BronzeAlliance
      @BronzeAlliance ปีที่แล้ว

      sadly in this situation its because he has to wear a respirator the fumes that come of chrome when welding will make you very very sick. they should have done a voice over for the video but at the same time i could hear him just fine
