  • Discover The Great Divide Trail a wilderness hiking trail in the Canadian Rockies. The GDT closely follows the continental divide between Alberta and British Columbia.
    Experience the natural wonders of the Great Divide Trail Trail and immerse yourself in the vibrant ecosystem that thrives along our unforgettable thru-hike adventure.
    The Great Divide Trail is by far the Most Epic Thru Hike in Canada
    It’s also very much a wilderness route.
    •This video is showing Section A from Waterton to Crowsnest Pass
    •Section length: 144.6 km
    •Section A hiked from August 1st to 7th
    •Had the chance to meet Jeff Schroeder, we hiked the Mt. Rowe alternate, was very toff but so beautiful!

    This trail was the most demanding, challenging but also the most rewarding!
    The Great Divide Trail is very much a "choose your own adventure" kind of trail. While there is only a single route to follow in many areas, there are also a multitude of alternatives to choose from along the way.
    Total GDT Length: 1,123 kilometres - 65% of the trail in Alberta and 35% in BC.
    Highest point: 2,590 m (8,497 ft) at an unnamed pass above Michele Lakes just south of the White Goat Wilderness Area

    Wow, that spider shot was cool. And that sunrise. And that deer. Okay, so it's all cool shots. Really impressive video and what a variety of environs.

      That spider was a lucky shot, hope to be able to hike this trail right after completing the CDT one day 😅

    Unique edit. No background music. Quick cuts with no transitions. The video feels "real". Makes me want to do Section A, myself. THANKS.

      Looked like you camped at Grizzly Lake, is that correct? Curious where you camped between Barnaby Ridge and Coleman ... Lynx Creek campground?

    Rudy! I finally got around to watching this incredible video! Thank you so much for including me in it. I haven't seen that much footage of myself on trail, and it really captured a lot of that alternate route that I was unable to capture. This will be a really great video for me to look back on and to show to friends/family. I absolutely loved the whole thing. Seeing Barnaby ridge made me REALLY want to go back and do that section. I was so bummed I had to do the main route. Hey, were you getting as nervous as I was around those huge cows? haha

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Jeff for being there during this tough section of the hike it was really easier to finish it with someone like you, you gave me the confidence to continue and some good advice too.
      Yeah one cow in particular was looking at me strangely, I let it pass! 😅
      Section A with those 2 alternative routes was just so special and challenging, to do it again for sure!

    Incredible cinematography, amazing job and a pleasure to watch. I see you met Jeff! I crossed paths with him in section F couple of years ago. I’m curious what your base weight of your pack is? Cheers

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you A MacLean, it's always a pleasure to receive a positive comment from a hiker who has already experienced it! My base weight was 12.5 lbs, far from Jeff's which was 7.5-8 lbs, that was really impressive! And you, how much was it?

      Une randonnée qui en vaut tellement la peine, qui demande une bonne préparation physique et beaucoup de logistique(boîte de resupply, réservation de certain site de camping)

    Thanks for the effort you put in here! A friend and I are doing Section A this summer and we intend on doing the Sage Pass and Barnaby Ridge Alts. Were you able to camp on the ridge in the Sage Pass Alt section? I am planning my mileage right now and was using FarOut (GutHook) for the campground locations but that seems like a long pull from Akamina to say the Sage or Font campgrounds. Awesome footage as well, what were you shooting with? Thanks again!

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you I appreciate Scott! From what I remember, there weren't many flat places on the alternate, the day before I slept at Akamina Creek Campground and started around 6am to finish around 5:30pm at the Sage Pass campground, hard day, bring at least 3 liters of water, it will be a hard day, good challenge! The next day i left Sage Pass camgroung for Burnaby alternate and slept at grizlly lake, next morning make sure to bring a solid 8 meter rope, on FarOut you’ll see a red triangle 🔺 there is a cliff not easy to descend(I did it alone with a thin rope) after that make sure you catch the bypass trail that traverses along the right (East) side of the ridge. Follow the orange dots. That runs easily along the side on an awesome ledge system and then rambles back up to re-gain the ridge.
      I filmed everything with the iPhone 13 Pro, with a small tripod and edit everything with VN app on the iPhone also! You’re going to have some great time on section A, the hardest but very rewarding!
