- EPISODE #1 - The diary of our Great Divide Trail (GDT) adventure. The first episode is "Section A" which is from Waterton Park to Coleman Alberta. It was far harder than expected and more beautiful than imagined.
Dudley (Bruce Watts), Crusher (Chris Abbott) & Mango (Tracy Généreux) - and many new friends - thru-hiked the Great Divide Trail during the summer of 2021. 1100-ish crazy hard and wild kilometres from the Alberta/Montana international border (near Waterton), to Kakwa Provincial Park along the continental divide in the Canadian Rockies. Considered the "Wildest" Thru-Hike in North America - We agree!
This video is the 1st episode of a 7 part series we affectionately are calling the "GREAT DIVIDE TRAIL DIARIES" ... we will be uploading vids on this channel as they are completed (be patient... there are lots of personal summer adventures that keep us from the editing studio -- SUBSCRIBE SO YOU WON'T MISS THE CYBER ADVENTURE!

Great video, editing and commentary and information. I'm hiking this section in August with a girlfriend and I am really looking forward to it. Hopefully the snow will be gone or at.least a lot less on those North slopes though.
It looks so beautiful so I can only imagine what it actually looks like because I know videos and pictures don't do justice.

Great video! Love the narration and perspectives. Cool to see the trail in a different season and some sections that I didn't hike due to taking some alternate routes.

Would recommend that when you have a cup or two of water left in your water bottle, just add clean snow. The snow soon becomes cool and delicious water.

I followed along with you as you traveled to your many different routes and this one definitely did not leave me disappointed. I appreciate all the time spent filming the vast wilderness and the majestic views that we saw in the first part of the series. I was wondering if your travel mates have a channel I could watch so that way I could see what they were looking at on this journey.

@@dougborthwick9074 In 2017 at age 68 I hiked as far as Agua Dulce on the PCT. Thanks so much for your work on the GDT. We are still doing day hikes but the fires in BC are hindering.
Watched Bruce-Hikes-Bruce and now you are on the GDT I love watching your journeys you are quite an inspiration, keep up the great content. Might try the Bruce myself next year

Did you find that the 20 degree quilt kept you warm enough without wearing all your other layers? I watched the video of you deciding to omit the 10 degree version.
Yepper… it certainly was. The only night I wore more than long johns was after getting caught in the snow storm. It took some time to warm up after getting wet and cold. All in all… I’m glad I went with the 20 ˚…. But as you likely know, we all sleep differently and it’s best to test first before you head out. Finally, I generally am a cold sleeper.
Really great video and information for this section! Can you tell me, cause it wasn’t clear to me, after LaCoulette did you take the Barnaby Ridge alternate or did you descend back down into the valley along the true Gdt trail?
We hiked the main trail. It was tough enough!😂

So you all just respectfully skipped the minor inconvenience of making campsite reservations? The little thing required by all the parks??
I’m not sure what you r referring too? We booked, reserved and paid for camps every night… including parks Canada pass. But there were times we improvised because of unexpected issues.
