Felder’s addition to the Eagles in ‘74 was THE defining event for the band. He not only complimented the immense talent of the other members, he helped propel the band to greatness through his collaboration on song writing, his unique guitar style and sound and his distinct character as a decent guy. Glenn Frey, God bless his soul, will always be remembered as the visionary leader of the Eagles, but Don Felder made the group better!
makes me think of Michel Nesmith if you look on like when Peter Tork died he flat out admitted they never liked each other they could put up with each other cause they had but they never liked one another. but he goes on when he found out he had died he was near nears when he said this it he couldn't talk more than that but to put words in his mouth i think he did feel love for the man and it's a shame that he didn't realize that when he was alive. but that's just a guess it's nothing he said at all
@@armara70 He had music for 2 songs. A lot of people can play guitar. It’s different when you’re not the one people except to make the music they did. The Eagles were Henley/Frey, and that piece of work claimed basically in his book-the Felder Bible-he takes credit for all that was good in not only music, the world. He’s a smug little shit who lied a lot. Is that a little bit your speed? Like Ringo wanting credits, He knew his job, and did it. Like Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Felder is more like Meisner who couldn’t sing his one song a night. They were expendable. He talks like he’s part of everything, and he’s just not. A faker, a liar, with envy the other band members. His choice. Live with it and quit whining for him killing his own-known-career…..
@El Guapo Really? When one is a FULL partner, one should be treated like a FULL partner. And he had the legal documents to prove it. He was not treated as such. To Henley and Frey, it was all about Henley and Frey.
@El Guapo you really don't know anything. Glenn Frey and Henley kicked felder out because Frey had a personal problem which wasn't Felder's fault. Henley didn't even consider Felder's explanation. He fired Felder. Henley is an asshole. Not Felder.
Don And Glenn also fired him and The Eagles have remained as great without him and didn’t miss a beat without the guy that also “discovered” Tom Petty*….. #IAmAwareThisMightCostThemaSong #Maybe2 #CountTheCredits…..
He also said the Eagles would never perform again. Don did really well,Glenn did really well with dime acting and music, Joe always finds a place to play, ON HIS MERIT. Not failing alone and latching onto other equally desperate 80’s bands. And Lord man, the world does not need a Foreigner/Styx/Felder version of “Hotel”…..
A very classy guy makes you wonder about Don Felders firing was there still residual bad feeling over the 1980 Wrong Night at Long Beach and or was there some kind of jealousy/envy from Glenn Frey and Don Henley in spite of their own immense incredibly impressive talent
@@jasonsvault2878 I saw their "take" on things, with regards to Don Felder. He joined the band as a equal member of the group. Then Don and Glenn changed the rules. A done deal is a done deal. Very greedy guys with HUGE egos.
One of the best guitarist's writer ,performer in my lifetime .....you definitely know when your hearing DON FELDER play ... precision...thank you Don for sharing your gift and talent
I grew up listening to the Eagles, I would carry a cassette ghetto blaster on the school bus, and we would all sing the Best Of album ...man those were the days, and then later on, in high school. going to the Midnight Movies to see "Heavy Metal" (the animated movie) and it gave me even MORE appreciation for Don Felder, and of course Hotel California, the soundtrack of our lives! That song is like Stairway To Heaven or Freebird, songs that are timeless and will live on into eternity in our hearts and minds. It's what makes us who we are, God Bless Don and all of The Eagles for their contributions to American Culture and Music. Glenn- Godspeed brother. \m/\m/
I am a guitar player. Don Felder WAS the guitar genius of the Eagles. Glen wrote great songs, but he and his guitar rode on Don Felders amplifier wings.
@@BaahBen Is he the one ( with dark hair) that's with the Eagles now, and before Glenn passed? If so , he's great!! Come on, this Felder isn't the only good guitar player. BTW what did happen? I've loved the Eagles since the get go, but, didn't keep up with their drama.. those were good years! I was busy!! 😁
@@robf.9982 Because Felder was just receiving a pay check, he started asking question about the money that the band was making....and the problems started.....
+Mike B I agree 100%!!! I think back in the earlier years they were probably all a little arrogant, stoned, overworked, stressed, possibly ungrateful, among other things. Now that they've gotten older they have a different outlook on life. Felder seems like a very gracious, kind guy who is regretful that he never had the chance to make up with Glenn. I really get the feeling he wanted to.
Well, he was not any of this when he was in the Eagles... There are lots of videos that show this... He was a jerk idiot, thought he was better than he really was...Now, he is nice to Glenn Frye...Wow, one night in a concert, they were going to get into a fight on stage... Yeah, a kind hearted decent man....whatever...
@@frandanco6289 - Glenn Frey got mad at Don Felder because Felder had the audacity to ask where was all the money going? Frey and Henley refused to provide financial statements to Felder who was the CFO of the Company. As an equal partner and CFO Felder had every right to ask for the financial records. Next time you try to dump on Felder do your homework first
Here I am commenting again. I cannot believe the firestorm I set off by making a simple comment concerning Don Felder's reaction to Glen Frey's death. I will state again that Don Felder is a class act. Even though they had their differences, Felder did NOTHING but brag on the talent and accomplishments of Glen Frey. He simply paid his respect to his fellow Eagle in a humble and respectful way. Just like in his book Heaven and Hell, he acknowledged the talent---singing and songwriting---that Glenn Frey brought to this group. Yes, they had differences---but instead of being singular minded like so many of you that have misinterpreted that way, Felder mentioned in his book those things he thought was wrong, yet exalted the many virtues of not only Frey but also Henley. I am amazed and disappointed that so many of you have made such crude remarks back and forth----you guys remind me of the feuding Republicans running for President! You are like 3rd graders who say if I don't have my way, I will take my ball and go home! Please, let's all just drop this back and forth ugly exchange, and let us all appreciate EVERY ONE of the Eagles----past and present. I love Glen Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner, Don Felder, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmidt. ALL of these gentlemen are multi-talented, and have brought so much to this great group. They make all generations of the Eagles what they are and what they will continue to be for many generations in the future. We will not see the likes of these talented men ever again.
When you think about it, it is ridiculous anyone thinks they really know a celebrity in the first place. People project character traits and talk as if they can read the mind of someone they don’t have a personal relationship with - and NEVER WILL.
@@danc3693 Ridiculous is a pretty strong word, Dan. My comments are strictly my opinion, but they are not simply pulled out of the air. They are based on what I have read, and interviews I have seen and heard. I am not a mind reader, and I don't profess to REALLY KNOW any celebrity but I just simply have my own humble opinions and interpretations.
the Eagles would not be what they are today without Felder.....he was previously an equal and was fired one day in spite of being the CFO. It is nice to see that he has moved on.....the are no Brinks trucks following a hearse. Classy Don.
+Bretus buckeye Uh, what drug are you currently on. I really tried to put it all in one post, but I keep seeing this ****' The Eagles would be just fine and no one would have missed Felder the Fiction writing KING, one bit. An equal? An EQUAL?! Read his book. He was, cough, "better!" He has not moved on, and by spouting this fake crap, to a man that didn't consider him a friend, he is just about as far from classy as anyone can possibly get.
+Bob and Jason Williams I think your comment is inaccurate and intentionally cruel. Felder has always maintained a positive demeanor toward Frey even when they had their differences. Whether it be the positive things he said during the HOF induction, to many interviews he has done over the years.Frankly, he has handled the whole situation with much more class than many other people would have under the circumstances. So while you can have an opinion regarding Felder's worth to the Eagles, you cannot legitimately question his sincerity on Frey's passing, because you do not know what is in the mans heart. Needless to say neither does anyone else, including me. However I base my opinion on his long history of being complimentary toward Frey all these years, despite their past differences.RIP Glenn Frey,,,I hope you are having a peaceful easy feeling, sipping a tequila sunrise as I type this message.
+yawns smith Thank you for your comments concerning Don Felder. I certainly agree with your opinion, and I think anyone that has read Felder's book Heaven and Hell, Life with the Eagles---like me---knows that Don pointed out both the good and bad. After all, the book was named Heaven and Hell. Even though Glen and Don had issues, that did not prevent Felder from pointing out all the many positives and talents that Glennpossessed. My earlier comments were not dissing Frey, only complimenting Felder for what I believe are his genuine feelings. I love all the Eagles---past and present and appreciate all the unique personalities and talents they brought and/or bring to the group.
I am now an even bigger Don Felder fan after reading his tribute to Glenn Frey! & agree 100% with Mike Parker. Felder is truly a class act. The Eagles lost a true professioanal when they (Frey & Henley) screwed him over so badly
Also want to add that I saw the Eagles both during & post Felder & there may be some other great guitar players out there but none match Fingers Felder & Joe Walsh playing off each other. They just fit!
Joe Walsh his head and shoulders above Don Felder. Not taking anything away from Don but, Joe is the master player and not to bad of a singer/songwriter.
+Craig Gomez I love both Joe & Don! I loved their dynamic of how well they played off each other! Joe Walsh even described it in the History of the Eagles how it was great for keeping them both at the top of their game trying to one up each other by pushing the bar. They're two of the best guitar players in the industry as far as I'm concerned! I LOVE the Eagles & am very saddened that I'll never be able to see them in concert again. However I'm so thankful I had the chance to several times. They're the BEST!!!!💞
Amy Thompson Twenty three years of sobriety didn't hurt either. By the way, The Eagles aren't going anywhere. Concerts can be seen on TH-cam whenever you need an injection of the guys. Joe was already a star in his own right when he came both times. What Joe meant was, it is important to keep doing what you do to stay at the top of your game. Whether your Agassi or, Connors. You can never rest on your laurels and think, well that's it. Nothing left to conquer. I have to say, Jimmy Carter must have a friend up there because, 9 months ago, he announced he had inoperable cancer that had spread to his brain. Then, three months later, NO signs of cancer in his body. It must be because he stays at the top of his game. You go Mr President! Your work here isn't finished so, heaven can wait.
+Amy Thompson Felder and Walsh were what made them cool, Fry had a hand in that too, but seriously the riff trading in Hotel California is near rock perfection. Only arrogance, and ego could have broken up that core. Wasn't the same band without those two trading riffs. I saw them in front of 80,000 in 1980 at the meadowlands in NJ a few months before the original split. Had there been no Felder at that show there would have been no Eagles. He was that much to the group.
I'd love to see all the surviving members get together for one more concert, having guest singers on all the Glenn tunes. All proceeds can go to charity. I think that would be an awesome send off.
Cmon guys I'm a Felder fan and I believe they treated him poorly but I find your comments highly inappropriate and I doubt Don Felder shares your view, the man has died for Christ sake, have some respect if not for Glen for his family.Felder is a class act but there is no need for your comments.
Thank you for saying what I have already said several times. It seems the ones dumping on Frey know next to nothing factually. Moreover, Glenn Frey came to LA with a vision and a plan. He set out to achieve that plan never knowing just how successful he would be. Turns out, he exceeded his own expectations and, never straying, was always working to make The Eagles better. He attained a place for the band that few have reached and, long after you and I have left this place, people will discover the enduring and contagious melodies and lyrics of his songs. The Eagles have been such a big part of my life, Glenn's passing has left an emptiness inside me. I ask all to realize that youtube is open for everybody to access. Even those who are surviving family and friends of Glenn Frey. Please show respect at this difficult time.
+Craig Gomez I can't thank you enough Craig for your heartfelt words. None of the miscreants attacking GF and DH knew them to make such disparaging comments. Like you, the Eagles have been a large part of my life too. As a musician myself I have the greatest respect and admiration for the talent they displayed for so long. They didn't deserve a lawsuit. I pray that Glen's children are spared this nonsense. At least I can say that Glen is now: "The New Kid in Heaven" RIP my Friend, Glen Frey, a midwestern kid like I.
Don't know what happened with the sound, but the moment the text appears over the picture, the sound drops out. I wish you had chosen to put the text at the beginning or end, over black screen. It's too distracting to try and listen to Don's story and read all that text at the same time. But it's true... Don is a classy guy.
+fireshiata That was on purpose. If you notice at the beginning of the video it flashes the year "2012". It was Don commenting on his troubled friendship with Frey. So with subtitles and sound diminished, his previous points and counter points take a back seat to how he feels today.
+Todd Drummer Or, in the time that has passed, lawyers could have told him that, some of what he was saying violated the settlement terms to not talk publicly about certain aspects of the case. If you look at his facial expression, he looks a little frustrated and it seems that he has started then stopped then started again because of changing his statement. This is clearly someone wanting to set the record straight but, not being able to tell everything.
What Felder said and was muted and what was written were very different. He was rehashing old bullshit. His publicist probably wrote the words of tribute. Why else would it be muted? People are so gullible.
@@mandybarlow I don't think he is bitter. He was a partner in the Eagles, sued them and got a huge settlement and spent the 1970s on the road in one of the biggest bands in the world. He's had a great life.

Don, there is (WAS) no greater Eagles fan than I. I lost it for Glen Frey and Don Henley over the way you where treated and the way he stated "You sign the contract by the end of the day or you're out of the Fuckin' band". As far as I was concerned the Eagles no longer existed without Don Felder in the line up, period. Yesterday I watched your Howard Stern interview where you promoted your book and I felt a lot better about it. You sir are an amazing man, friend and musician to be able to speak about Frey in this manner. Hopefully we will have you around for many more years so we can continue to enjoy your fantastic guitar work and wonderful spirit.
I remember watching the Eagles documentary and seeing that as well. The way they gave an ultimatum to Don Felder was shameful. For guys who started a group based on equality, when the money rolled in they ditched that idea real quick. I lost a lot of respect for them.
So, using football as a metaphor, the guy on a team that scored one touchdown all year deserves Hall of Fame player money? You get paid by production. Which is why his original “productions” are always the highlights of his money making machine. And yes, it matters. Or he would’ve just signed it. Stupidity. Ask Joe and Tim B…..
Agree 💯%. I don’t think much of Glen Frey as a person; he sounds like a total jerk! I’m not commenting on his talent. My feelings for Frey are based on the documentary, Don Felder’s book and, most of all, Frey’s own words. Egomaniac!!!

For me, the Eagles just wouldn't be the Eagles without Don Felder. He seems like a lovely man, very gracious in his interviews, and a mind blowing guitar player. I was very sad to hear of his being asked to leave the band and would never go to one of their shows without him present. Having said that the Eagles were an outstanding band who survived the years and I was very sad to hear of Glenn Frey's passing.
Well you're wrong. They were the Eagles without him and did quite well. You can't speak for them nor could you possibly know what they are without him. People make changes everyday. That's part of life and, mostly the changes make us grow and learn. Without change, life would be a bore.
Very sincere expression, you're a real gentleman Don Felder, please carry on, where would the guitar player community be without the music, mastery, memories and distinctive sound of The Eagles.....man you guys were really something, unforgettable! Best regards from Canada.
Music would be just the same. Be one less song, two if he is to be believed-which he is not-“might” not be around. True genius usually doesn’t stop at 1 or 2…..
I don't know who was right or who was wrong in this Eagles V Felder argument but I do know that these guys have left me a beautiful soundtrack to some of the sunniest days of my life and for that they (all) have my lasting gratitude. I am Irish and we have a saying here which I will dedicate to Glenn: "I hope you were in Heaven an hour before the Devil knew you were dead.". Rest in peace my friend...that I never met.
Very well said indeed Wayneo! Frey and Henely did not treat Don Felder fairly! Felder is big enough to push that a side and not hold a grudge against Glen! That's Class folks!
You need to do some research.... Randy wanted to quit... Felder was fired for being an idiot and a jackass... The band could only take so much of this dumbo... Watch the videos of him acting out in the band...
@@frandanco6289 It was beyond stupid that because Felder said something to a Democrat Senator, Frey went off the deepend and got rid of Felder. I wonder if Frey ever realized that the Senator was only there for his own personal benefit, and could care less about the Eagles in any way.
Don I do hope you read this, I hope that I can speak for your millions of fans in saying that no one holds you accountable for the breakup. I am 53 yrs old and will never forget my first eagles song on the radio. it takes everyone in the band to succeed and egos can quickly destroy what it takes years to build, you are truly loved,( I bought your book by the way) could not put it down. Thank you for the memories, that will forever live in our hearts. you will always be an eagle, please remember that.
Don Felder wasn't responsible for the break up so why would you even bring it up. These guys were burnt out and life on the road is hell. They were slaves and they were pushed by their record label to further enrich bank accounts. People like Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, Journey had tremendous
+Craig Gomez demands put on them because they sold hit records. You have to find a middle ground so, they just walked away. One last thing I want to say about Felder is, please stop living in the past and, pick up your guitar write some new songs and get out there and do what you do best. Play music! Please, we would love to hear something new coming out of your mouth.
If he just signs the contract, like the others, he’s still an Eagle, playing music in front of real crowds, getting big royalty checks. But, he chose the “starving artist” bit. His ego did hasten his departure, though…..
The Eagles were never the same after they disbanded in 1980 and I know Glenn Frey, Don Henley and you Don Felder were good enough to stand on your own without the Eagles name. Everything has a reason and Glenn Frey died too young as well as so many other great musicians. Live and let live and play on. The fans love all of you deeply and you will be the greatest of all time in the songs that you have and will sing. Love and happiness to the living and my condolences to Glenn Frey and his friends and family!
Don was a one/third share owner of the Eagles, and ended up with a hefty settlement and royalties. Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt are only paid employees of "The Eagles" Frey and Henley were control freaks... you should read Don's book... great insight into what really happened.
@@sunsetcaptiva8573 I read his book but he shouldn’t have signed the Hell Freezes over deal because it wasn’t the same as Eagles Ltd. looks like he wouldn’t leave it alone and the Eagles just got sick of him I guess. In your mind only.... He started the problem because he was the problem... The band was actually better without him... Do you know who Joe Walsh is??? Guess not... Your guy made the mess, whined all the time, whined for a long time after and now he is the best ever??? At what????
@@frandanco6289 of course I know who Joe Walsh is and he kills it. Don F isn’t “my guy” just said he rocked it and the band wasn’t the same without him. Can’t replace the Walsh-Felder dynamic. Big money band = big drama.
I think my comment has been misinterpreted I think Don Felder would have preferred to have made up somewhat with Henley and Frey and the man he is he will be feeling deep sorrow and pain toward the death of Glen Frey after all the band conquered the world.
Everytime don felder speaks about his former bandmates its always positive and uplifting. It's to bad egos get in the way with everything thats good. Remember Don is the music behind hotel California. What an awesome gracious guitarist. I wished i could have sat under his tutelage.
Seriously??? They needed him so bad, they had to fire him... Yeah, there is that part... No loss... Eagles sold millions of albums with and without this whiner...
Regardless of which side you are on in terms of the business dispute, "The Long Road Out Of Eden" suffered due to the non-presence of Don Felder. With the exception of a few tunes, it sounded like a Glenn Frey solo project. Lots of soppy, adult contemporary ballads. Felder gave the Eagles a tougher, rock and roll edge and sound. That in turn inspired Frey and Henley to pen more songs in that domain. Even songs that Felder had no hand in writing sounded tougher and had more grit. As much as I like all of the band's records, I enjoy "Hotel CA" and "The Long Run" the best because they just rock harder. Somehow, that made the ballads like "Wasted Time" and "The Sad Café" more poignant. And the guitar interplay between Frey and Walsh was second to none. It's sad that the band was never able to make a final record with Felder.
Wrong. If there is one person in the Eagles who put a rock and roll twist, it is JOE WALSH. Henley put him there for the rock music...Walsh has a successful career in the James gang, he can play guitar well, can sing, writes songs. Felder. contribution in hotel California does not make Felder superior to the others. As band member, he has to contribute music . If he really is that good, he should have started his own band or has become a solo artist. I researched by reading two books on the eagles
That’s Joe Walsh. They sound just as great without that holier than thou, please look at me, former guitarist. They toured fairly successfully without him. Didn’t they?…..
Genuinely, one of THE Eagles, an original. Now Glen has "already gone", I'm sure he's standing on a corner, waiting for the originals to reform and produce some melodies again.
Felder was fired from the touring band. He is, however, still a member of Eagles Inc. As he said in an interview, he no longer tours with the band, but is still making a fortune as an Eagle. Laughing all the way to the bank.
Yes. I saw Don Henley on CBS Sunday Morning back in November. He was asked about when he thought the band would quit and if he was ready. He said, "that I will leave up to Glenn. It's his decision to make, not mine". So, I believe Glenn made his decision when he left us. The Eagles are done.
+wayneo1269 I know that Don Henley has said that, at 68, he wants to stay home and reconnect with his Texas roots. He has a new solo album and while he would never had wanted to see Glenn's passing, I would have to agree that, this is the end of, The Long Run.
Nice way to honor your friend and band mate Glenn Frey. You're a great guy with amazing talent and class - Don Felder - so much to learn from you not just musically. I can only imagine the heaviness of your heart when you learned of his passing. My hope is Frey is honoring our creator in Heaven and just maybe God will allow all kinds of music and instruments in Heaven for everyone to play and or listen. Including our voices. You guys (The Eagles) had such beautiful harmony, vocal and instrumental - kimie
very very sad about glen, im just getting into the eagles. but Don Felder was right in standing up for himself. henley, and frey shoudlve not been so tight, and not tried redoing the eagles contract where theyd get more. greed causes problems.
+Jameswilliam1982 Yeah, shame on Glenn and Don for being so tight. And writing the soundtrack to so many peoples lives. They could have just sat and had little tea parties with the greatest musician to ever grace time, Don, FINGERS, FELDER! One point you were right though. Of course accidentally. It was Felder's greed that caused problems, because none of the other members of the band then had a problem with it.....
+Bob and Jason Williams that is because joe walsh and timothy b. Schmidt were salaried employees and not part of eagles limited ,the original agreement made in the 70;s,wich included randy miesner, who upon leaving the eagles sold back his shares, don felder was justified in questioning the whereabouts of said monies when they re-grouped again, but frey and Henley were voting 2 to 1 on everything, wich is why felder was offered x amount of money when they settled out of court.this is all in don felders book,
+Bob and Jason Williams The other members of the band got their paycheck for being hired player's, that's it. They had no other vested interest in the band other then their job. As long as they got paid they were content.
Um, yeah? That's pretty much what I'm saying. Those who write the majority of the music that makes a band remembered forever, Henley/Frey as compared to say, Jagger/Richards or Lennon/McCartney-only as examples for this point. To borrow a catchphrase, "know your role". Yeah, Harrison had some songs. Even Ringo. How many people had bits and pieces that influenced the Stones? Mick Taylor actually is a lot like Don Felder. They could have both been rich and a part of something special forever, as their JOBS, but no, they had to overestimate their worth. Not the first ones, won't be the last.
Never got the chance to see the Eagles but I did see Don Felder in 2017. Every interview I’ve watched he seems like a guy who isn’t bitter but regrets the way things ended up. And I think this video is further proof of the kind of person he really is.
Wasn’t friends. You don’t have to go out of your way to say something about someone who at the time wouldn’t want his name in his mouth. He chose, and he left. The Eagles continued…..
@@jasonsvault2878 I agree they weren’t friends. But Frey/ Henley were/are massive a-holes. Egomaniacs of the highest order. They had a hood thing with Felder in the group, and drove him away
Life can go on the same after the loss of a trinket but not after the loss of a treasure. R.I.P. Glenn. My sincere condolences to all who knew him. He opened my eyes to my heart, thanks for the lessons.
Don Felder was an actual partner in the "Eagles Corporation". Timothy Schmidt and Joe Walsh were only employees of the Corporation. Like it or not Felder was legally entitled to ask the questions that got him him canned from the band. Not sure that was even legal to fire Felder, since he was an equal partner. Guess not because Frey and Henley settled out of court. Watch Felder on Howard Stern show when Felder was promoting his book. Very enlightening.
I have been playing guitar for about 25 years now. So anyway, once a long time ago my father asked me to sit down and watch a very long Eagles show on TV. All throughout the concert, my dad kept saying, "You gotta hear this guitarist! This guy is amazing. Who IS this guy???!!!" I was like, "Oh, that's Don Felder. Yeah, he IS amazing." Don Felder can really do it all on guitar. Super talented. Anyway, I always liked two things about The Eagles- Felder's guitar work and Glenn Frey's voice. That's what I think of when I think of The Eagles. I will definitely miss hearing Glenn Frey's voice. I was sad to hear of his passing.
The decision to put text all over the screen and lower the audio to almost zero makes no sense at all. Thanks for ruining what otherwise would have been a quality presentation.
Thank you Don. We all miss the good times we had in our past, at least we can say we had them, as there are many people who never do. May he rest with a guitar in his hands and song in his heart.
+Bill Brimmer He created those ill feelings between them. He always thought he was an equal to Frey and Henley, but they wrote all the songs. Felder was a hired hand to play guitar, which he did very well, but he was never an equal to Frey and Henley. His ego always got him in trouble. Whatever. It's all history now.
+gareball Wrong. Felder was an Equal partner in the Eagles Ltd. company with Frey and Henley......Walsh was the "hired hand" as you call it. Felder joined the band as a LEAD guitarist AND he was the CFO chief financial officer of the Eagles company.
MotorCityMan is correct. Don Felder was the C.F.O. of Eagles Ltd. The original 4 and Felder were equal partners. Leadon was bought out when he left; same with Meisner. That left DH, GF & DF. Henley, Frey and Azoff tried to cut Felder off at the knees but after filing suit he prevailed. In a 3 way partnership a partner cannot be fired. Frey alienated Leadon, Meisner and Felder. No one was immune to his teasing, insults, temper or wrath. Roadies, techs, staff and various lackeys were insulted for no reason. In short, GF was an ass. Schmitt and Walsh are paid sidemen.
Henley and Frey were huge talents but as people... Don was and is such an incredible guitarist. The best the Eagles ever had, in my view, taking into account Leden and Walsh as well. Walsh and Felder were dynamite together.
Read Heaven and Hell then emailed Don. He got back with me. A class act all the way! If HALF the stuff he mentions happened to not only him but Randy, Bernie, Joe and Timothy "the gods" are indeed pricks of the century in the greatest American band of the century. That is tragic! Must read for all Eagles fans that want to get past being naive about what it was like to play in The Eagles.
loved the book. after years of therapy he is able to enjoy the present and look forward to the future. a class act taking the high road with Glenn Frey passing
Don Felder's guitar work made the Eagles what they were. Whether its eaglemanics or egomanics, its so hard for creative geniuses to stay connected. Rock and roll will never die but it will get an ego and destroy itself. Too bad but maybe that's what's real after all.
After you age a bit and suffer a few illnesses you realize that while many live past 67 there are many, many great, good people that do not even make it till 67. Check out the obits once in a while, many pass at this age. Yes I will miss Glen Frey as we have existed on this earth for pretty much the same time. I am so glad I was able to be here to see him create the music that so many enjoyed and identified with. Too bad the band had so many internal conflicts, conflicts that were a distraction from the music.
Gee guy, thanks for brightening up my life. I turned 67 in January and I check the obits everyday to make sure my name isn't mentioned. You can never be to sure after 60. But, I am not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. 😎
Robert Palmer at 53. Actor John Ritter also 53. Prince at 57. George Harrison at ?. Christopher Reeve in his 50's. Then his wife of breast cancer also 50's. Gilda Ratner at ? of breast cancer. And on and on. That is why it is so important to constantly tell those close to you how much you love them and appreciate them. We get rapped up in our lives we don't realize how fast it goes until we hit 60. Yet, 67 is still young and I am 67. Glenn Frey's passing has brought it all home for me. I watch videos from 75- 80 when they were as big and famous as you can get and EVERY song was such smooth and well produced music that you hoped and expected The Eagles would be around forever. When we lost Robin Williams the laughter would never be the same. When we lost David Bowie, his celestial flavor of music went with him. And, The Eagles were and still are my favorite all around rock band. They were the soundtrack to my life. And now, one of the most driven and evolving funk players, Prince is gone too. The year isn't even 5 months old and look at all the major players that are gone. As you so rightfully point out, I am still alive and kicking while so many never made it to 50. Thank you for that. We need to take notice and stop bickering and feeling angry. We are only here for a brief time and then, we're gone.
Keith Travers You stole my line. I already posted a comment saying that I check the obits everyday just to make sure I am still alive. There are days I thought I had died. I guess we'll get there soon enough.
I thank Glen Frey for creating the Eagles From the bottom of my heart and finding the rest of you creative geniuses the original band members off the group, Don, Bernie ,Randy, Joe, and you Don Felder last but not least Timothy B........with the help of you guys Don and Glen produce the best songs ever from Bernie;s Witchy women your Hotel California mega number ! hit and Randy;s take it to the limit Joe"s Life in the fast lane Timothy's I can;t tell you why....... I thank yous all.and god bless.
I've had close friends who were ill for a length of time and as the body deteriorates so does the mind in some cases. This may have been a factor with Glen Frey. Don Felder you are a a class act.
I don't know the age of the posters who are making snarky comments but I'm quite sure you're not the age of Glenn Frey or Don Felder. I am in that age group so we have the gift of perspective. When you are young, the testosterone is gushing, when you're on booze and drugs, when you are a creative person, things happen that can get blown out of proportion. I think Don Felder showed himself to be a class act in his words about Glenn Frey. He now will have to live for the rest of his life without the opportunity to talk to Glenn Frey. That has to hurt him very much.
+TheEriekayaker The falling out happened in the late 90s. They were old enough by then so it wasnt a case of youthful bad behavior. It was greed and ego all the way.
IMO, I thought Don Felder kicked ass when he was with the Eagles. Too bad thing went the way they did. In Don Felder's song "Heavy Metal", I can still hear that Eagles guitar sound that he put forth back in the day. It's the Eagles loss, not his...
Let it go Sagitaricorn.... He was a major whiner and agitator in the band, lots of videos prove this out... The Eagle lost an idiot and they were better for it... Your guy cant even carry a tune in a bucket...
A salute to Don Felder for having such class and dignity., it's too bad you never received as you give of yourself. But that is the way it typically goes..I would say live to do, and 'do' all you can; and at the end of the day, you did it all for you!
Mr. Felder, we loved you then and after all these years, we love you still. You will ALWAYS be an Eagle. Your contribution will live on even after you and I are gone. Thanks for what you did and for who you are!
One thing I would like to add to this story of one of the best bands in American History and no disrespect to any of the members in the band, but I find funny how Glenn ( may he RIP), through the years acted more like Paul Stanley of KISS, while his counterpart Don Henley, is Gene Simmons. Like KISS, Ace Frehley is the man with the true talent. Though as fans, we’ll never see these gentlemen break bread again, however we can learn from this and make our lives better with people and individuals we had difficulties or differences with. With that being said, Don Felder in my opinion.., is one of the best musicians that helped catapult this band to the next level. The version on the Eagles now is nothing more than an over-expensive tribute band. Don Felder, you are a trailblazer and a humble individual. Stay blessed and hope to see you on your next tour! Thanks for the memories! LJ 😃
Felder was brought in to bring the Eagles into being a Rock band. its the song Its Already Gone he does this and listen to that. before that they were borderline easy listening rock/country folk sort of band. If you watched the documentary History of the Eagles, Glen Frey speaks so harsh against Don Felder and Felder only stood up for what was right. Equal split of money among the 5 members but Frey and Henley changed their minds they WANTED MORE. This get Felder kicked out of the band. Felder in my opinion was right and its about principal and also the fact there was plenty of money and NO REASON to do this.
aside from the obvious human factor, Glenn Frey's passing was a big loss for music in general. As for Don Felder, he's a class act, not to mention, an incredible guitarist of the highest calibre.
Why does the volume go down for much of the video? After Don Felder said that his departure from the Eagles wasn't his idea and that it caught him blindsided, the sound seemed to go down, you could barely hear what Felder was saying. Any reason for that?
Not sure why him speaked was nearly muted and text overprinted the video. Why not show the video where he said those words. Makes it appear misleading.
I believe Felder is a stand up guy and that working with Henley and Frey had to be quite the adventure. things did not work out but you have to admire Don Felder for his kind statement about Glenn .Rest in peace Glenn.
I believe history has shown they did just fine with out him. But there were two sides to this story and the supporters of each side will never agree. Personally, I think Felder knows he made a huge mistake by forcing the issue. We all have one or two huge decisions in life that affect us going forward...forever. This one was Felder's and I think he blew it. Pride can overcome common sense
he wont say too much but i know he felt pain rather than anger over the split whenever he spoke of it he would choke back the tears there were dynamics going on that only those guys could comment on its always sad when someone passes who was such a big part of your musical life rest in peace glenn.
Whatever.... He was the one who caused all the ruckus... He should have said he was sorry when they fired him... What about that ???? Now, he is exalting himself as some really nice person,, when videos show him being such a tool, one night, Glenn and him were going to get into a fight during a concert... Watch that video...On and now he is going to great lengths to talk about whatever.....Do you see the families of any of these other guys talking about how nice this tool was ever????? Why is that you think???
I enjoyed Felder's guitar magic as much as the vocals in all Eagles songs, his contribution to their music helped make them a group that was in a class by themselvesSome of the participants at the Grammy's will never in a hundred years come close to the talent of the Eagles.
Of course he's gonna say only the nicest things about the guy bc he's dead now. It would come off really unclassy to trash a dead person. Glenn Frey unfortunately comes across as the asshole in that documentary bc he airs his dirty laundry about how he feels about Felder. Felder in that doc never really said anything mean about Frey so in both cases Frey comes across as the jerk. He trashed the guy then died with bad karma. He died full of hate. Maybe if he had forgiven him then he might not have died. I think it's best for your health if you forgive.
Glenn was a total prick and control freak Felder has obviously forgiven him but the fans know how much Felder suffered and let's not forget Randy and Bernie too who left because of Glenn
Don, your lack of acrimony will give you long life. Use it wisely. :) As for the past, mind if I say just about every important band needed a John Entwistle. Unfortunately, dude, you were it. :0 The first time I watched the doc, and it got to the part where you were trying to write all this stuff before ~The Long Run,~ I was all, "Why?? He's the best technician on 50 stages. What's he going and doing, writing all this stuff? That smacks." Anyway. Lots of us loved you just the way you were. There were always cute glurts of showmanship on stage with you, but foxhounds don't have to dance around in poodle skirts. You always slayed the fox. Nice post. Stay gold. Luv, from another guitar player.
Over the years I always heard GLEN bad mouth DON and never really cared about it until recently seeing interviews with DON who always takes the HIGH ROAD! Seems to me now that the one who SCREAMS (GLEN) over and over that the OTHER GUY (DON) did him wrong has no credibility! Don's interviews are always so enjoyable too!
Then you need to watch the Eagle videos that show Felder being such an idiot in the group.... He just kept at it and never stopped... They Fired Him!!!! What does that tell you???? Now, of course, he is trying to make it all go away, like he had no part in it ever... Not the truth... Watch the videos... Credibility???? Watch the videos.... It is as plain as day...
Don, I think you get it. Getting older and we don't have time for the anger BS. So I have seen you in many interviews and I think it's cool you aren't a big you-know-what about it all. Honest, but not mean. Class act.
He seems like a real, sincere guy and he took the high road regarding Glenn. Respect.
makes me think of Michel Nesmith if you look on like when Peter Tork died he flat out admitted they never liked each other they could put up with each other cause they had but they never liked one another. but he goes on when he found out he had died he was near nears when he said this it he couldn't talk more than that but to put words in his mouth i think he did feel love for the man and it's a shame that he didn't realize that when he was alive. but that's just a guess it's nothing he said at all

@El Guapo you really don't know anything. Glenn Frey and Henley kicked felder out because Frey had a personal problem which wasn't Felder's fault. Henley didn't even consider Felder's explanation. He fired Felder. Henley is an asshole. Not Felder.

Amen...God bless you for this beautiful comment.

+Bob and Jason Williams He wrote Hotel California id-i-ots!
+Bretus buckeye Felder wrote the guitar parts & basic melody but Henley & Frey wrote the lyrics. So it was a joint effort.

+Craig Gomez that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the heads up.
Not only that, but he ended the video right when he was about to explain the Eagle's response to his olive branches!

Strange how the two most outstanding members of the band were forced to leave. ie Randy and Don Felder!
You need to do some research.... Randy wanted to quit... Felder was fired for being an idiot and a jackass...
The band could only take so much of this dumbo... Watch the videos of him acting out in the band...
@@frandanco6289 there's video?
@@frandanco6289 Yeah sure Don Henley, sorry I mean Fran Danco.
@@frandanco6289
It was beyond stupid that because Felder said something to a Democrat Senator, Frey went off the deepend and got rid of Felder.
I wonder if Frey ever realized that the Senator was only there for his own personal benefit, and could care less about the Eagles in any way.
I can't imagine Glenn Frey recording such a gracious video were the situation reversed.
Bingo!!!
Also that arrogant snot Henley. He always thought his chit didn’t stink.
True!!!
So sad😞 I'm really sorry you two never reconciled.
Noble and mature of him to be so magnanimous despite all that had gone before. A good guy. Well said and delivered Don.
A man of integrity...which is more than be said for two others in the band!
Don Felder---you are a class guy.
+Mike Parker You're exactly right. If it were Felder that had died Frey would be performing a toast to his death. So would Henley for that matter.
+DuckTalesWooHoo1987 That is so much bullshit.
e a liar, you just said so true, in any sense.
Liars one and all, who spout this rubbish.
+Dr Why Thank you. Finally.....
+Mike Parker Good comment, Mike. Ignore the troll.
+Mark Collins Thanks Mark. Couldn't even make sense of the troll.
Play music! Please, we would love to hear something new coming out of your mouth.
,. Cct uhh de
I wish Felder and Walsh would start a project together. I think it's time for Joe to Walk Away from the Eagles.
I see what you did there.
And give up that paycheck? Yea right!! But that would be great.
Thank God,and the Eagles we will have these songs for the rest of our lives! RIP Glenn, and thank you!
Don F got a bad deal. He rocked with the Eagles and the band wasn't the same without him. Thst said, RIP Glen
Timothy & Joe seemed fine with the deal. Do I think don & glenn deserve more? No but don’t sign the deal!
There’s something wrong with the audio
I lost any interest in Eagles material post-Felder. He was the perfect edge of the blade in that band.
You are the bigger man. It's their loss
Well said
Seriously??? They needed him so bad, they had to fire him... Yeah, there is that part... No loss... Eagles sold millions of albums with and without this whiner...
Absolute class of a response.
I love Eagles but after one listen to that album I was disappointed and felt sad that they even put it out.
If he really is that good, he should have started his own band or
has become a solo artist. I researched by reading two books on the eagles
@@seerstone8982 Out of Eden? I loved it - although I no doubt would have liked it even better had Felder participated...
So, Joe Walsh was not as good or better??? Admit it, you have felder posters in your basement room at mommys house...
Sometimes Felder is just too good to be true.
yea he is full of shit making himself out to be the nice guy when he is actually an asshole in disguise he has a lot of people fooled
Because he is not good...
Felder was fired from the touring band. He is, however, still a member of Eagles Inc. As he said in an interview, he no longer tours with the band, but is still making a fortune as an Eagle. Laughing all the way to the bank.
The Eagles are done as a band no Frey no band.RIP GLEN FREY
Yes. I saw Don Henley on CBS Sunday Morning back in November. He was asked about when he thought the band would quit and if he was ready. He said, "that I will leave up to Glenn. It's his decision to make, not mine". So, I believe Glenn made his decision when he left us. The Eagles are done.
Craig Gomez I can't see them going on.
+wayneo1269 I know that Don Henley has said that, at 68, he wants to stay home and reconnect with his Texas roots. He has a new solo album and while he would never had wanted to see Glenn's passing, I would have to agree that, this is the end of, The Long Run.
Craig Gomez Sad but true.
+wayneo1269 I would love to see it go on with Jackson Brown taking Glens place nd Don Felder invited back
Nice way to honor your friend and band mate Glenn Frey.
An opinion spoken by true fanboys. Ill stick by what I said though. thanks
A fitting tribute to a friend and talented musician, well said Don.
Felder showing a lot of class here. Would love to see him and Walsh team up for some shows in the future. They create magic together.
Don- you will always be a part of the Eagles to me!!!!
I felt really bad when he broke down over how hurt he was in the eagles documentary , all he wanted was equal pay .
I read a comment about Randy Meisner that said "Shortchanged by an ego maniac. RIP" It has 700 likes.
Just a comment- I really
enjoyed Randy Meisner’s
Take it to the limit!!!!!!!...
I think thats why he quit cause he was tired of singing that song
Thank you Don. We all miss the good times we had in our past, at least we can say we had them, as there are many people who never do. May he rest with a guitar in his hands and song in his heart.
Very nice words. I'm sure that Don Felder would have liked things to be different in his relationship with Glenn Fry.
+gareball
Wrong.
Felder was an Equal partner in the Eagles Ltd. company with Frey and Henley......Walsh was the "hired hand" as you call it.
Felder joined the band as a LEAD guitarist AND he was the CFO chief financial officer of the Eagles company.
+Motor City Man Felder was the "financial officer" of the Eagles? You're an idiot, but I'm sure you already knew that.
gareball
Yeah he was Asshole do some research!
+Craig Gomez Any day you can see yourself looking back in the mirror is a good day. (I'm 62, had a quintuple bypass... I feel ya.)
+Craig Gomez I'm 62. I wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is read the obituaries. If I'm not listed, then I go and eat my breakfast.
Keith Travers You stole my line. I already posted a comment saying that I check the obits everyday just to make sure I am still alive. There are days I thought I had died. I guess we'll get there soon enough.
Much respect to this man...said with care and sincerity.

@@christineanderson2137 Grow up
I don't know the age of the posters who are making snarky comments but I'm quite sure you're not the age of Glenn Frey or Don Felder.
Don is one of those few people that looks even better as he’s aged. He’s a handsome guy.
If only we could have heard him....
Don't know why you turned down the Volume , I for one would have like hearing Don tell it.
Class act Mr. Felder
Rock on Don Felder
Not sure why him speaked was nearly muted and text overprinted the video. Why not show the video where he said those words. Makes it appear misleading.
Don Felder very classy your the man 😊
I believe Felder is a stand up guy and that working with Henley and Frey had to be quite the adventure. things did not work out but you have to admire Don Felder for his kind statement about Glenn .Rest in peace Glenn.
Don Felder should still be with the Eagles...period.
no
no what?
steven j Patten no Felder sorry
Like I said, he should still be with the Eagles
I believe history has shown they did just fine with out him. But there were two sides to this story and the supporters of each side will never agree. Personally, I think Felder knows he made a huge mistake by forcing the issue. We all have one or two huge decisions in life that affect us going forward...forever. This one was Felder's and I think he blew it. Pride can overcome common sense
Both of you are a very special part of Music History Glenn will be Missed, God Bless
GARYSGUNS i
he wont say too much but i know he felt pain rather than anger over the split whenever he spoke of it he would choke back the tears there were dynamics going on that only those guys could comment on its always sad when someone passes who was such a big part of your musical life rest in peace glenn.
I think it's best for your health if you forgive.
then you're an idiot
then have the guts to defend your comment instead of just saying it's shit...
Glenn was a total prick and control freak Felder has obviously forgiven him but the fans know how much Felder suffered and let's not forget Randy and Bernie too who left because of Glenn
That was a class move and those of you who can't see that are ...Classless!
All these people in the Eagles seem so intelligent, clear eyed and sober.
Don, I think you get it. Getting older and we don't have time for the anger BS. So I have seen you in many interviews and I think it's cool you aren't a big you-know-what about it all. Honest, but not mean. Class act.
