when my mom's family first moved to Huntington (from Queens) in 1968, both the LIE and Northern State ended at Sagitkos/Sunken Meadow Parkway; then to get east, take 27 (Sunrise) on south shore or 25 (Jericho/Middle Country rd) on north shore. Can Google amazing photos of these LIRR train stations from early 1900's !!!! Thank you Mr. Master; this vid is awesome.
Ha!! We used to live in Maspeth. Hop on in Woodside and ride out to Massapequa for family gatherings and us kids would always go to the Busy Bee plaza right on Sunrise by the rail.
Sunnyside Yard is packed! The first time I saw that was back in the mid-1970s when I took the Amtrak United Aircraft Turbo train to Penn Station to meet my aunt who then drove me out to their house on Long Island. Back in the 1970s, the yard was full of New Haven washboards EMUs, even though everything was under Penn Central, Pennsy-lettered and PC-lettered GG1s, and lots of other consists including those from the Southern Railway because they didn't join Amtrak.
Love this. My sister used to live in Kings Park and I took the train to see her frequently. I loved it. Easier than driving from here (Matawan, NJ) and for me, more fun. Train from here to Penn Station, then jump on the LIRR. I miss it. (And her - she moved to Florida.)
taught in Kings Park for 20 years (KPJHS . . . did they keep the name change to Rogers JHS?), Went into Manhattan a million times but took Ronkonkoma non-stop . . .or stopped in Hicksville. Always wondered what the approach to Penn Sta. was like (all dark inside for us.) Great vid. Son now lives in Tampa; season passes to Universal, Busch. Busch annual pass, Florida resident; $400. Go four times (he already did in January) and rest of year free (as 1 day is about $140 + $30 parking.)
The concrete and steel still in good shape 100 years later. Amazing I see concrete culverts that were built in the 30s that are still like the day they were poured and then see 5 year old concrete that has completely fallen apart. There is no pride and quality like there was back then. Seeing infrastructure from the 1700s that is still solid just fascinates me. How they could have built walls of stone and mortar and they have held up this long just seems impossible

If you can say. How is it that you even gained access to record this video. And is the camera suction cupped to the window or maybe is on a gimble keeping it from bouncing around. Again, Excellent video.
Heard the comment about “a hard time getting engineers”. I got called to go to an engineer recruitment event in March. I have the signals and have already been studying them
Great video. Thanks for posting. Q? What is the "telephone bell" that keeps ringing at irregular intervals? Muat be particularly annoying to the engineer trying to concentrate on operating the train.
Very Cool!!!! Thank you for sharing. Can you explain briefly the bells. I'm thinking one is to cancel the Alerter but not sure what the others were for. Maybe to communicate with the onboard crew?
Ive noticed the bells inside the operators cabin durong the videos. Does anyone know what they mean short blasts vs long blasts etc. Also is the use of this partly or wholly the conductor communicating wkth the engineer? Sometimes i have noticed the use of the bells in correlation to the speeding up or slowing down of the train. Does anyone have any insight on this ?
M3's you can as long as the cab door isn't open. Some will say yes and others may say no. It all comes down to how you approach and ask these people. I'm planning on explaining more about this soon because in the coming months, it's going to get more difficult to acquire this kind of footage. I don't want to discuss it right now because I don't want to mislead people into thinking you can no longer do this. It's just technology in general that's going to make it harder.
Says your videos not to be re-posted. Can I share your videos to my train group on facebook. They would enjoy this and your videos. They usually join lots of my members do to whom ever makes them there channels here on youtube. Please let me know by replying here asap. I never seen this till now and posted the first two I seen already but I will remove them if in the wrong. Sorry I do not always read below the videos. Being a senior woman I forget to sometimes. But I have had my train group on facebook for over two yrs. now. They do enjoy different videos i post daily. Tyvm God bless. ps I am a member of your channel now too. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
If you wish to share to Facebook, that is fine, so long as credit is given to the original source/uploader and you're not claiming ownership! If you need more info, feel free to Email me. Link is in the description. Thanks!
Ugh, the old Cerro Wire site that sat unused for decades is now a stupid Amazon warehouse. It could have made a really nice park&ride + bus connection. You’d have easy ability to do ramps to the Expressway and Northern State, and space to put a huge parking garage. With the third track and East Side opening (some day..), you’d be able to clean up traffic in towards the city by moving them out to that area by train. Faster commute for drivers - they’d take the train.
Yup, to bad it’s not just a giant parking producing no jobs like warehouse workers, drivers, cleaners, office staff, training staff, health & safety jobs, no 401K’s, no Health Benefits for hundreds’s of families and driving zero ancillary revenue into the community like supporting restaurants, gas stations, HVAC vendors, fire protection vendors etc., etc.,etc after decades of nothing. Just a nice big parking lot. Brilliant.
Do you like a decent train simulator? You can match the last half of this video up with the Open Rails train simulator, Long Island Railroad route. You can predict the next stations from the open rails simulator map and scenery. Both real and imaginary match well.
Hey you should become a locomotive engineer I did it for 20 years and I have a youtube channel try it its not as hard as you think you probably no most of the physical chararistics

Even to watch the video on a late July day in North Texas, the view refreshes as if you were there.
When I saw the name Huntington I thought it would be my hometown in Huntington, West Virginia but I see it wasn't. Great video 📸!
Grew up in Syosset and married and lived in Mineola and Huntington. I rode those rails more times then I can Count...Brings back memories...Thanks
So when did Lafayette Electronics give up the ghost?
Seeing all this old infrastructure from the 20s is amazing
They really knew how to build infrastructure back then

Terrific! I've seen the rear view, now here's the front!
Yup!

I'm interested in Florida myself! Most visited State. I go there for nothing but Disney World.

WOW! Great video, like it. Wounderful. Greetings from Russia. Alexandr.
Great Video!!! That's 1631 the 8:04am from Huntington to Penn Station!! I know the engineer on that train
Cool!
Great video, love the front window!
I do too!
Used to live in Huntington, will be moving back, to Greenlawn.
Thank you for this!
Any time!
This brings back memories. Used to take this route on my way back from Stony Brook.
Nice!

It's the Lime they no longer use.
Memories! Great view! 🤙
Thanks man. Seven years ago this was my daily commute. Nice to have the chance to take a look and see what's changed since then.
You bet!
I loved cta and new York trains and busses

First!
Looking forward to this.
Nice to see right of way improvement, much needed in the US.
Indeed!
Live chat was great

Do NOT miss even 1 word.

57:24 is there inside the cab a signaling, or why there is a proceed with red signal
Very Cool!!!! Thank you for sharing. Can you explain briefly the bells. I'm thinking one is to cancel the Alerter but not sure what the others were for. Maybe to communicate with the onboard crew?
Short bells are the alerter. Long bells mean the speed code is dropping.
Does anyone know when the LIRR extension into Grand Central Madison is to open (it was supposed to open by the end of 2022)?
Seems like the last horn blast really is useless - the train is already going over the road. What are the bell rings alerting?
Short bells are the Alerter. Long bells mean the speed code is dropping
Uh, ja...I agree...though 2nd horn blast may slow/stop someone farther away..🤔😉
What is that bell I keep hearing? Is it some kind of alert bell?
Short bells are the Alerter. Long bells mean the speed code is dropping.
Do you know the history of those boxcars at: 33:10?
Not that I know of.
They have been there at least since the late 1980's that is when I first noticed them.
@@MattTruddenOh wow that's a long time! I did my research and also found out they are there for storage for a warehouse.

Must've been a weekend train. Not many on that morning train.
Actually no. Morning Rush hour.
Good stuff. From a UK point of view accelaration doesn't look great, but I suppose that's down to your bigger loading gauge and hence heavier trains.
Good point!
the train in this video is also about 40 years old lol... these older models also just generally don’t go as fast as the newer ones to begin with
What is the third rail voltage? Also, how much of the right of way is fenced in?
750 Volts DC
Is riding up front hit and miss?
Only some trains and/or operators allow it?

Is it a local or express?

What is the ringing mean?
Short bells are the Alerter. Long bells mean the speed code is dropping.
37:06 local overtaking express
55:05 Grand Central portal
Still not yet.
telephone bell or the railway bell
The whole routine and the designs of platforms are exact for a few exceptions like Russian.
Interesting!
Heading out to New York end of next month I’ll see if I can get some views of my own
Good Luck!
Great footage but the constant bell ringing was horribly interrupting
I know. I'm used to it
Older version of Automatic Speed Control.
I have always wanted to drive a train
Locomotive Engineer Trainee is open. Update your resume and send it in!
I would like to be train operator. Can you contact me?
Mta.info. under Careers, look for Locomotive Engineer Trainee and apply.
