- Took a drive to Babylon on Wednesday Oct 26th after getting wind of some of M3's on #36. Less then an hour later, #69 has 'em. With a few hours of nothing important to do in the meantime, took it straight to Penn. Enjoy!

These trips are fascinating in a hypnotic sort of way👍
Thanks!
They are, I love em.
Great video! Clear window, good lighting and some autumnal foliage. Thanks for the ride.
I grew up in Valley Stream, the Malvern branch literally went right behind my house. Still the easiest way to get into Manhattan.
These remind me of my hometown Chicago and their front view videos
Great video. Thank you for the ride..
Great ride thank you for this!
Thank you!
LIRR Main Line connects to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor at Harold Interlocking into Penn Station! (1:06:00)
Nice job!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video!
Glad you liked it!
I enjoy your videos.
Glad you like them!
3:28 Interesting seeing this bridge from the top. I often drive under it and the adjacent Central Branch bridge as I am heading to NY-109.
Great vide MrM!
Thanks!
1. Are there any grade crossings on this line? 2. I am impressed with how much of this line is elevated above street level. When did that elevation take place? Was it originally build that way? 3. Moveable frog switches only at Sunnyside Yard area?
Interesting how parts of Harold interlocking are still in rebuilt with old wood ties and non-moveable frog points.
Yea.
Back to the future.
Pretty much.
What's the ringing during the ride?
Hi
I flew Southwest from LGA to Nashville
Nice!
Can someone tell me what the ringing bells mean?
That's the automatic signaling system in the engineer's cab. It rings whenever the train speed limit changes, and also periodically at random to make sure the engineer is awake (they have to push a button within a certain amount of time or the train will stop automatically). The system used by LIRR and MNRR is smart enough to reduce the train speed limit even below line speed if they're coming up too close on the train ahead of them, to reduce the chances of a sudden red signal.
This is a ride that I have been on recently. Great ticket price for seniors.
It really is!
I thought thatLIRR got Rd of the M 3 with the purchase bof 200 of the M9s They still keep this very old M 3 s?
They need them due to high demand in equipment with East Side Access. Not enough M9's on the property thanks to delays.
Why was the worker holding up the W sign?
The Disk with the W means to sound Rule 14L. 2 longs 1 short and 1 long. The person holding the disk who is the RWIC (Roadway Worker In Charge is responsible for being the Watchman/Lookout and providing Train Approach Warning (15 seconds or more) to allow the gang to clear the tracks to the appropriate area.
Thanks for your vid. This brings back memories of my commute to NYC. I no longer live in LI but I do miss it. This doesn't exist in Phoenix.
Everyone drives. Public trans pretty much sucks. I will always miss my home in Massapequa, LI. 🥲
What are the bench-like things between the tracks at Woodside at 1:04:47 ?
If the local track is under construction they would put temporary bridges
55:50 didn't know mario rides the LIRR
Can these M3s go to Grand Central?
They can't handle the grade.
What is heck is that bell that keeps ringing?
Short bells are the Alerter. Long bells mean the speed code is dropping.
I live on the Babylon line and compared to the Ronkonkoma line it’s boring!!!! The local is a tedious ride past stations that look alike. No grace crossings and bland scenery. The express trains are more interesting as it is a high speed line, otherwise it’s the slow boat to China. My station is prehistoric. No elevators and no modernization for 50 years since it opened. I guess extending the platforms wouldn’t make sense since they’re not going to run 12 car trains anymore when Grand Central opens
I wish this line was made into 4 tracks with Freeport being one of the express stations 🛤️
