I met Chuck this year in Ft Lauderdale this past April. I helped him set up an event to sell his merchandise at a downtown Viking bar he knew nothing about just by talking to him on fb. I enjoyed reminiscing with him about the great 70s Viking teams and I actually knew more about his career than he even remembered.

Vikings fans were so spoiled in the '70's - so many winning teams - granted, they never won the big one, but there were a lot of fan bases who were very envious of the Vikes and their fan base.
Amazing video thanks! I was in Houston, 10 and 11 in '72-'73, and these dual 1-13 seasons devastated me. Meanwhile my Dallas cousins were enjoying Super Bowl seasons. I'm a psychiatrist and some credit is due these men in powder blue.
I think he might have been the best I've seen. Sometimes, it looked like he was having fun, juking those tacklers onto the ground and out of the play, lol. He had size, power, speed and those unreal moves.
He rarely ran for long td's cuz he expended so much energy twisting and jitterbugging to get out of the pack that his energy was low by the time he got into the secondary. Nobody spun like Foreman! He could grind it out when need be, too, like you stated Tommy.

Yes, I grew up a Vikings fan - Foreman's criss-cross facemask was different than the predominately worn criss-cross type as it was "shaved" on the lower-left and lower-right corners. Foreman ran with straight line power and twitch. He had soft hands and packed a hammer stiff arm. He ran with (all time) terrific balance. He went from hot and humid Miami to daunting cold Minnesota. That's a great point, B.D., about going from FL to MN. He's a Hall of Famer in every sense...just as good as Marshall Faulk. Can you imagine Foreman cutting on artificial turf for his home games? Would have put up even bigger numbers.

Bobby Mitchell, Charley Taylor and Lenny Moore all played Flanker and Running Back in the NFL - I think Foreman could have played WR, too, and excelled.

That's right, along with Head Coaches Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson - very cool. There's never been another runner who had his style and moves! I think that he belongs in the Hall of Fame.
I remember that Buffalo game vividly. Bud was so upset with the snowballs being thrown at his players that he sent his offense to the locker room as the Bills finished out the game on offensive. When he was asked what he would have done if the Bills had turned the ball over (it was a blowout Viking lead at that time) Bud said he was going to leave the defense out there to finish the game on offense. That would have been awesome. I believe he even said he would have used Paul Krause as QB and Page at RB.
Wow - that's great stuff. I had not heard that, but it would have made sense since Krause had great hands and Page was light enough to play running back effectively. Jeff Wright could have probably played at the other running back.
In spite of Tarkenton, Gilliam, Voigt, S. White & A. Rashad.........Chuck was the core of the offense. His dominance enabled them to make those playoff and super bowl runs. He's worthy of the Hall of Fame IMHO.
After years of watching the punishing pound and ground great tandem of Bill Brown and Dave Osborn, Foreman was like a breath of fresh air adding a whole new wrinkle to their offense. Unfortunately, they could never get him going in their Super Bowl's after he had some productive playoff games to get them there.
Can't believe they couldn't get him going against Miami, although I can understand the two SB's that followed. However, perhaps Guard Milt Sunde's absence was a big reason cuz Frank Gallegher had to step in due to Sunde's injury and had to go against a fierce Manny Fernandez. Tough break for the Vikes.
Lol at that usher doing the safe sign after his slide vs Atlanta. I did the same thing while working Security for the Cubs. In 2008 Mark Cuban was at the Ball game that night one of the Wrigley Field Vendors was sliding up the stairs with drinks. I did the safe sign when he got to the top and everyone including Mark Cuban got a smile out of it

I've been kinda waiting for this video, knowing how much you like "The Spin Doctor!" He wasn't the best pure running back, but I don't think of anyone who combined rushing and receiving like Foreman did! I mean games with almost 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving!? Wow! He probably would have at least won the triple crown in the NFC! Most receptions, rushing yards and touchdowns if he didn't get hit in the eye with a snowball! And yes,in the playoff game vs Dallas, they did contain him,but I do think that part of that was a good game plan by Landry but part of it may have been over confidence by Minnesota,,,There will never be another Chuck Foreman! I wonder if he didn't injure his knee in 1978 if he could have put up more numbers to get into the HOF! Love the video ( But I'm a Viking fan!)
Lydell Mitchell is a very good comparable, but he didn't have the flare that Foreman had. The Vikes relied on #44 so much. He had a carrier like Larry Brown of the Redskins: 5 outstanding years, then stumbled for a year, then fell off the cliff. Those guys had a ton of touches each year during their prime. The weather was perfect in Miami. It was the Vikes best team overall up to that point. I think the Vikes may have beaten the Steelers if they had played.
I was a huge Vikings fan growing it Buffalo. I was angry about the iceball hitting Foreman's eye. My older brother assured me that Chuck's big brother, George Foreman was coming to Buffalo to beat up the guy that threw it!😂
Yes, few people know that they were brothers. In fact, (this time, no lie) George Foreman was a good football player and considered football before boxing.

I’m now 60 and this was my all time favorite player ⭐️🏈 without #44 ( 1973 NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR) Fran the man even said, the Vikes would have never got to those 3 SB in Forman’s first 4 seasons ⭐️✊❤️

Chuck Foreman was an entire offense by himself. A brief career of six great seasons, cut down by a bad knee injury. Not only was a great runner and receiver. But the moves he had. The leaping over the pile. Chuck could arguably been the offensive player of the year in 1975. It just so happened that was Fran's best year as a QB. So of course the QB got the nod. But Fran's MVP season was all about #44. Perhaps Chuck's career being brief keeps him out of Canton. But I compare that to Gale Sayers. Who had just about the same tenure as Foreman. And Chuck was just as spectacular as Sayers. Yet Sayers is in Canton and Foreman is not. That to me makes little sense. Whenever I watch that 1975 Vikings-Cowboys Playoff. I always take notice of how perfect that field at the Met looked. That's what Football looks like
Fran was 1st, O J. 2nd and do you know who was 3rd ahead of Foreman? Terry Metcalf. Yeah, without Foreman, Fran isn't the MVP. I totally agree with you regarding Sayers getting into the HOF, but not Foreman...it just doesn't make sense to me. Without Foreman, who knows if The Purple go to those 3 Super Bowls. That's value and he had it.
@@markgardner9460 Wow I would not have thought Metcalf over Foreman. When I think of vital players of that season. I would go with Tarkenton, Foreman, Staubach, and Lambert. Roger had to be in that conversation. Considering he carried that offense without a dominant run-game. I would think Lambert for leading the Curtain to another Super Bowl.
Metcalf had the punt and kickoff return aspect, as he broke the record for most combined yardage in a single season. I definately hear what yer sayin'!
@@markgardner9460 Great job with the video as usual !! An over the top player if there ever was one. Without him the aging ( oid ) Vikings are maybe a tad over 500. It was he who extended the Bud Granr/Purple People Eater era. . His yards per rush may not be all that impressive, but a lot of people forget that he was also the teams bruiser. On most 3rd or 4th and inches, it was Foreman who'd take it over the top. Few players have meant as much to a team, as Foreman did to the Vikings.

Fantastic, job Sportsgab, knew this was coming at some point, thanks a bunch, Dallas caught fire late in the season, their Defense was rockin till they played Pittsburgh in the SB that year. Man Chuck had a fantastic season that year as did Sir Francis. Dang, still makes me mad that Buffalo game, Chuck could have score a couple more the way he was playing out of his mind till the ice balls did him in. Oh well!! Oh, man. So many guys got nailed by the goal post/posts. It was worse in the '50's when they had the H-shaped goalposts. Some fields didn't even have padding on those old wooden goalposts.

2,003 yards in a 14 game season may be the most impressive stat in NFL history...and it was done with predominately rookie QB at the helm (Joe Ferguson), along with an extremely young offensive line.
@markgardner9460 I remember that game @ Shea when he got the record. A cold sloppy track. Not only 14 games but many were outdoors in the mud. PS, I also recall his run in 94 in the Bronco,w/ Al Cowlings leading the way again.

@@markgardner9460 I'd be curious for your thoughts on some of the unsung no-names. When Cliff Harris made the HoF, I compared his stats to both Anderson and Scott. Anderson especially seems to be about equivalent to Harris. I'd argue his high points were higher. Seems like if Harris is in the Hall, Anderson should be too. Manny Fernandez also seems underrated--the only d-lineman I've ever seen intercept a handoff.
Dick Anderson is a gross ommission for the HOF. I don't know both Harris and Donnie Shell got in, but not Anderson...unless there was a limit as to the number of DB's who could be voted in during the recent veteran's committee vote. Bill Stanfill was solid for the Dolphins, too. Manny should have won SB MVP against the Redskins.
@@markgardner9460 Jake Scott's intercept rate is the best of those four, also. His resume is in a similar ballpark. Would love to know how many sacks Stanfill had. Supposedly he had 18.5 one year in a 14-game season, but they were not officially tracked back then.
Pro Football Reference says 69 1/2 sacks with 18 1/2 in '73. 5X Pro Bowl and 1X All Pro. I loved Jake Scott! Good punt retuner, too. Vern Den Herder didn't live that far from me after he retired.
I never saw in great detail like this the actual barrage of snowballs Foreman faced, the only game I think was worse was the infamous Chargers at Giants Stadium 1995 game.
Didn't look like stadium security was too effective in stopping the barrage either, as it occurred all game long. Those snowballs become iceballs when carefully manicured and did some serious damage.
@@markgardner9460 Check out some of the Chargers-Giants 95 game, an assistant coach for San Diego get hit in the face with an ice ball and knocks him out, the Giants had a bad season with Dave Brown pretending to be a QB and took out their season long frustrations.
@@markgardner9460 The Giants had 5 wins and this was the last home game on a Saturday afternoon luckily I had a gig that night and gave my tickets away so didn't attend. They arrested a few hundred people so you could imagine how many actually participated and got away with it. Look for the ground level footage behind the Charger bench whee the coach gets hit in the head.
Believe it or not: In 1974 and 1975, Terry Metcalf placed ahead of Chuck Foreman in the MVP vote. If you look at the Metcalf stats the only conclusion this physics professor could come to is the mundane response WTF?! Metcalf did lead the NFL in fumbles in 1974 and 1976. His son Eric was a bust.
In '74 & '75, Metcalf's total yardage surpassed 2,000 yards each season (punt & kickoff return yardage included) and in '75 his 2,408 total yards broke the NFL record. They deemed him more valuable than Foreman due to those return contributions.
@@markgardner9460 No great field position for the Cards in the playoffs: 14-30 against the Vikes (Yikes) in 1974 and worse in 1975 against the Rams 23-35. The next week, the Rams would crumble 37-7 to Dallas in the Coliseum where they held the Memorial service. Actually, it was the Preston Pearson Show (where the FGs were longer than the TD passes). Yes, that was amusing and something for your research department.
I'll never forget that diving Preston Pearson catch for a td, although it did appear that he trapped the ball (back then they gave 'em the benefit of the doubt). Having numerous stars on the Vikings team split up the MVP votes between those players and took votes away from Foreman. I can't believe that the Rams got manhandled in that game - with all of that talent, you'd expect a lot closer game. Thank you for your comments!!

The Vikes relied on #44 so much. He had a carrier like Larry Brown of the Redskins: 5 outstanding years, then stumbled for a year, then fell off the cliff. Those guys had a ton of touches each year during their prime.

I was a huge Vikings fan growing it Buffalo. I was angry about the iceball hitting Foreman's eye. My older brother assured me that Chuck's big brother, George Foreman was coming to Buffalo to beat up the guy that threw it!😂

I was going to add Larry Schreiber to the one's I listed because he was a favorite of mine and I shook his hand at the Forty Niner's open house in '73, but his career numbers weren't anywhere close to these others.

I didn't get to see Delvin play as much because I was a varsity starter by that time and playing pick up on the weekends to stay a starter...
I missed out on watching a lot of NFL and college football while in college, but I bought a bunch of books and magazines and got caught up (as if I didn't get to read enough while in college, like most everyone who went)
He Used to eat my bears alive. Had a similar career as Terrell Davis but caught more passes was never the same after the knee injury
And Walter Payton used to do the same thing to the Vikes. He even threw a td pass against them in '79.

Chuck Foreman was an entire offense by himself. A brief career of six great seasons, cut down by a bad knee injury. Not only was a great runner and receiver. But the moves he had. The leaping over the pile. Chuck could arguably been the offensive player of the year in 1975. It just so happened that was Fran's best year as a QB. So of course the QB got the nod. But Fran's MVP season was all about #44. Perhaps Chuck's career being brief keeps him out of Canton. But I compare that to Gale Sayers. Who had just about the same tenure as Foreman. And Chuck was just as spectacular as Sayers. Yet Sayers is in Canton and Foreman is not. That to me makes little sense.
Whenever I watch that 1975 Vikings-Cowboys Playoff. I always take notice of how perfect that field at the Met looked. That's what Football looks like

I totally agree with you regarding Sayers getting into the HOF, but not Foreman...it just doesn't make sense to me. Without Foreman, who knows if The Purple go to those 3 Super Bowls. That's value and he had it.
@@markgardner9460 Wow I would not have thought Metcalf over Foreman. When I think of vital players of that season. I would go with Tarkenton, Foreman, Staubach, and Lambert. Roger had to be in that conversation. Considering he carried that offense without a dominant run-game. I would think Lambert for leading the Curtain to another Super Bowl.
Metcalf had the punt and kickoff return aspect, as he broke the record for most combined yardage in a single season.

@@markgardner9460 Great job with the video as usual !! An over the top player if there ever was one. Without him the aging ( oid ) Vikings are maybe a tad over 500. It was he who extended the Bud Granr/Purple People Eater era. . His yards per rush may not be all that impressive, but a lot of people forget that he was also the teams bruiser. On most 3rd or 4th and inches, it was Foreman who'd take it over the top. Few players have meant as much to a team, as Foreman did to the Vikings.

2,003 yards in a 14 game season may be the most impressive stat in NFL history...and it was done with predominately rookie QB at the helm (Joe Ferguson), along with an extremely young offensive line.
@markgardner9460 I remember that game @ Shea when he got the record. A cold sloppy track. Not only 14 games but many were outdoors in the mud. PS, I also recall his run in 94 in the Bronco,w/ Al Cowlings leading the way again.
He gained 23.4% of his yearly rushing yards against the Patriots (250 & 219 yards in those games)
I grew up watching Chuck Foreman play for the Minnesota Vikings , as a pre teen he was the best thing on TV besides cartoons 🤣🤣🤣 HOF what the hell are you waiting on 🤔

@@markgardner9460 I'd be curious for your thoughts on some of the unsung no-names. When Cliff Harris made the HoF, I compared his stats to both Anderson and Scott. Anderson especially seems to be about equivalent to Harris. I'd argue his high points were higher. Seems like if Harris is in the Hall, Anderson should be too. Manny Fernandez also seems underrated--the only d-lineman I've ever seen intercept a handoff.
Dick Anderson is a gross ommission for the HOF. I don't know both Harris and Donnie Shell got in, but not Anderson...unless there was a limit as to the number of DB's who could be voted in during the recent veteran's committee vote.
Bill Stanfill was solid for the Dolphins, too. Manny should have won SB MVP against the Redskins.
@@markgardner9460 Jake Scott's intercept rate is the best of those four, also. His resume is in a similar ballpark. Would love to know how many sacks Stanfill had. Supposedly he had 18.5 one year in a 14-game season, but they were not officially tracked back then.
Pro Football Reference says 69 1/2 sacks with 18 1/2 in '73. 5X Pro Bowl and 1X All Pro.

I never saw in great detail like this the actual barrage of snowballs Foreman faced, the only game I think was worse was the infamous Chargers at Giants Stadium 1995 game.
Didn't look like stadium security was too effective in stopping the barrage either, as it occurred all game long. Those snowballs become iceballs when carefully manicured and did some serious damage.

@@markgardner9460 The Giants had 5 wins and this was the last home game on a Saturday afternoon luckily I had a gig that night and gave my tickets away so didn't attend. They arrested a few hundred people so you could imagine how many actually participated and got away with it. Look for the ground level footage behind the Charger bench whee the coach gets hit in the head.

Believe it or not: In 1974 and 1975, Terry Metcalf placed ahead of Chuck Foreman in the MVP vote. If you look at the Metcalf stats the only conclusion this physics professor could come to is the mundane response WTF?! Metcalf did lead the NFL in fumbles in 1974 and 1976. His son Eric was a bust.
In '74 & '75, Metcalf's total yardage surpassed 2,000 yards each season (punt & kickoff return yardage included) and in '75 his 2,408 total yards broke the NFL record. They deemed him more valuable than Foreman due to those return contributions.

@@markgardner9460 No great field position for the Cards in the playoffs: 14-30 against the Vikes (Yikes) in 1974 and worse in 1975 against the Rams 23-35. The next week, the Rams would crumble 37-7 to Dallas in the Coliseum where they held the Memorial service. Actually, it was the Preston Pearson Show (where the FGs were longer than the TD passes). Yes, that was amusing and something for your research department.
I'll never forget that diving Preston Pearson catch for a td, although it did appear that he trapped the ball (back then they gave 'em the benefit of the doubt).
Having numerous stars on the Vikings team split up the MVP votes between those players and took votes away from Foreman.
I can't believe that the Rams got manhandled in that game - with all of that talent, you'd expect a lot closer game.

The Vikings had Foreman from 1973 to 1978 and still didn't win a Super Bowl, and they still haven't won one to this day.
