    That 0-30 form the lights at the end of your ride would possibly, make that probably, put my Z H2 to shame!
    Reminded me of my time as a PCV Driving instructor, giving a commentary/demo drive to my new recruits on day 1 and telling them that in 3 weeks time you'll be giving one also AND it'll be during your test. The look on there faces was quite often priceless.
    You're a class act on a bike, thank you for posting the videos.

    Listening to your commentary I was thinking it would be good practice to do our own commentary and possibly video every now and then because I think it would make us more aware of our surroundings when out and about.

      It's a fact that speaking outwardly goes into a different part of the brain than thinking, look at Buddhists chanting. Always good to practise picking out key points. I could talk much faster but choose the more important bits

      It works too. I have a tendency to sit too much to the inside on bends, so when I feel I need to work on my positioning I like to say out loud where I need to be and why.

      @@RoadcraftNottingham Hi Russ, have you done any motorway ride alongs at all? I have had a look through but cant see any. My instructor said stay away from motorways, which may be good advice! I have only been riding just over a year and have a Shiver 750, and have done short sectors on local motorways. I seem to feel more relaxed doing 70 on a country lane than I do on the motorway! Been driving cars for 35 years or so, and im more than happy in the car and less happy on the bike. I have a course booked with I2I at Three Sisters later in the year and will use the motorway for a quicker transit, but would enjoy the country lanes more. Would be good to hear your advice if you get the time.

    1 question, at 2:50, at the traffic lights, I thought you might have filtered to the front, any particular reason why you didn’t, or is it a case of it’s just how the mood takes you?

      Good point. I don't always filter, firstly if there aren't many cars I don't see much point without a large benefit but maybe on this occasion I was just chilling and focusing on the upload.

    Do you find yourself reaching for the gear shift before you set off? I used to ride old Vespas which have rear brake on the left foot and gear change and clutch on left hand. Always confused me for a couple of miles when I got back on my bike :)

    Nice one Russ. Some lovely old / historic industrial brick buildings you passed. What were you told about the bikes battery life? Just noticed another video on my feed (haven’t watched it yet) but the strapline “is new battery needed after 4 years” what are your expectations on battery longevity?

      That lovely building on the right at 5:50 was a brewery, I love things like that.
      The batteries are guaranteed for 5 years, unlimited mileage but are supposed to last for 250k ish miles before dropping to 80% range. With modern charging, the batteries include units to help not over stress the battery. If you compare to cars, I've also heard of engines packing up early although sometimes you can replace small parts at lower cost. New battery on this is 6k-ish. The English electric motor co has mentioned the possibility of an insurance warranty on the batteries but with tech the way it is, we may be able to retrofit a superior battery when this gets below usable range although it'll then be useful as a home storage system with solar panels.

      I've got it back now and it's running great. I think they'd waterproofed it somehow but they say they've drenched it and it's OK. I don't think they've replaced the spider bus though. They also extended my warranty by 3 months as an apology. The 2nd screen has condensation in again so I'm gonna wait till the new improved screens come in.

    Super video, the electric bike has a good range of speed. I've been riding for years and tend to use my indicator's all the time does this matter? Well done, ride safe and ride well.🤓🏍️

      I'll be doing an indicator upload. Bottom line is there's no harm as long as you don't leave them on or they don't get misunderstood due to wrong timing.

    just bought a srs & customised mode to max reg & brake. You made me aware that brake lights dont come on when just regenerating. Could be dangerous. My leaf brake lights illuminate when regenerating. Food for thought. Oh bought the bike from zero pidcocks & live in Derby, so might bump into sometime!

      Try custom mode with engine regen at 30% and brake regen at 60%..that way you have "normal" engine braking then when you light the front brake light you get smoother regen braking than 100%. Works really well for me.

    Great ride thank you for sharing. A couple of questions. At 3 mins in, why to you not filter to the head of the traffic column at the lights. Wouldn’t it be safer to get past to a clear road ahead? Also, when slowing I think you said, brakes then gears. I tend to use my gears to moderate speed and flow and brake after... your thoughts would be appreciated.

      I have a gear upload coming soon. It's always throttle, brakes if required then gears to match. Normal engine braking in the gear you're already in for minor speed changes is fine but changing gears in *order* to brake is looked down on by instructors as the gears aren't as effective as the brakes. Filtering... No massive advantage to filtering there, but was quite happy going with the flow. The "safer" argument is a bit of a weak argument considering the tiny accident stats involving rear enders and they're usually when late braking, I've seen as many filtering crashes as I have rear enders personally. ☺ EDIT... I know you didn't mention rear enders, that comment was really for the people who swear if you don't filter you get rear ended 😂

    Those little pretend schoolchildren they've got outside that school at around 6:45 is an interesting idea. The split second that someone might think "that kid's close to the road" might get someone to assess their speed, and the frequency of them probably gets them noticed. I quite like that.
    Bet they get little moustaches and angry eyebrows drawn on them though!

    In regard to using indicators. Many years ago when I took my car driving test in the UK my instructor gave the same instructions as you give. I was in a left turn-only lane & indicated left. He said are you going up the pavement? Here in Australia, I had to take what was basically a driving test every year for my job & the instruction was pretty much if you had an excuse to use an indicator use it. I'm not saying right or wrong. I also freak out when I see cars in the UK parked in the wrong direction, that would get you a ticket in Aus. I really appreciate the free riding lessons.

      The problem being though, some advanced riders actually look down on people indicating when there's no need but I ask if it's a problem? If you want to indicate, it's not misleading and remember to cancel, no worries.

      All I can say is how I feel at the moment... It's the bike I choose to take out over my others. It's smooth, fast and fun so if you can afford the premium price, yes, I'd recommend it.

    At 4:42, is that classed as undertaking? I don't mean to be critical at all, just wanted to know if it is as clear cut as some people would see it.

      Fair question buddy. Technically, I changed lanes only to turn left so then the vehicle in the right lane was travelling slower than me so it was fine.... BUT... If there'd been an accident it *may* have been taken into consideration in a claim. In the UK there's no such offence as "undertaking"... Only dangerous driving etc but that would have to be proven in court. Hope this helps.

    How long does it take to charge up when using the supermarket charging point? The issue I initially see is having to wait for more than a short while especially when it’s raining. You can’t leave the bike, so have to stand there getting wet whilst it charges.

      That's a 22kw charger and I charge at 12kwh so if I get there with 20% battery left it'll fully charge in under an hour but if I've only 30 miles to get home I'll have it on for 15 mins then charge cheaper at home overnight. I can leave it as the charge cable is locked in and I use an alarm disc lock when leaving it. My phone app tells me the current state of charge so I can sit in Costa whilst waiting.

      It's already there. With petrol stations, everyone has to use one. Most ev drivers/riders charge at home lowering the demand for public chargers. Add to this there's about 6-700 new stations popping up every month

    Is there a danger that flashing the brake light might be perceived as a rider that is unsure of what they're doing?
    I guess the net effect might be the same - to make the other person back off...but, I dunno.
    I'm not an advanced rider so will bow to your expertise though.

    7.35, Russ, my only real bugbear with advanced riding /driving. I know why you say what you say, but signalling providing it doesn't confuse is much safer, than signal if its of benefit, because it allows for human error.
    The advanced driver that pulls away from the side of the road having done, what he feels at that time is effective observations, and dosent signal because , on this occasion, he has not seen me on my bike coming up behind, at least that flashing Amber light will alert me quicker than the movement of his car.
    I know its an old argument.

      Yes it's an age old argument. They'd say they should be looking properly as advanced drivers etc. I simply say if you want to indicate and it isn't misleading, do it, what's the harm? As you say, if there's the tiny chance of human error it could save someone

    Such a peaceful ride. The energicas have brake lights on regen braking. I'm a massive fan of these electric bikes, to a point I get irritated going to a petrol station lol

      Had a thunderace, RT1200 (best bike yet), zzr1400, k1200gt, f800st and now a VFR1200DCT but desperate to get on the electrics.
      And done my IAM with a First and been a bloodbiker
      All good my end, on the railways now too.

      @@RoadcraftNottingham its a good compromise between the zzr14 and the f800. In drive mode it feels like the f8, sport mode is the zzr14
      But £18 every week on fuel that could be saved by being electric is winding me up but still got some way to go to afford an electric one, even the FXS is about a year away

      @@markgr1nyer if I instruct 80 miles a day that's £50 per week saved in petrol then there's the oil and servicing savings so that extra cost initially starts to come down.

    I see that the latest 2021 euro 5 motorcycles nowadays are getting better at producing cleaner emissions not as noisy now compared to way back in 2010 models. But that electric zero is in a whole other ball game.

    What a pleasure to watch, I do envy you!
    Let me dream for a moment: the changes you will be an all-electric driving school :)
    Although I guess you're very used to it, I often find commenting extensively during my own rides does take energy & efforts, as you observe and also speak-out what you've seen, the actions you will/have taken, etc. But it is a good practice to learn improving one's observation skills etc.
    I gather you also consciously add a bit more awareness to your observations as you are virtually extremely silent for other traffic?
    Or do you notice no differences in your own behaviors nor the other traffic on the road?
    I have no experience with electric, but when you are at a charge-station, does it not show you the cost per kW upfront and after charging, how much you spend charging?
    (as is the case with a fossil-fuel station as is the law in the Netherlands, clear signs visible from the road what the fuels are costing per litre)

      Hi, yes, talking out loud definitely helps with focus and it does tell you how much but I'd switched it off before looking lol. Not sure I'll ever be all electric as they're auto.

      A couple of pedestrians started making their way out in front of me at slow junctions and shopping centres but I anticipate it so no worries. That's why I have that "ting ting" bell.

    I wonder what should i do on 2 lane road like on 12:35 if you have a tailgater behind and you know this person is doing tailgating intentionally to speed you up?
    I wonder how would you react? Would you overtake red fiesta and hide in front of red fiesta? Or move to the side and let tailgater do his dumb business to next car?

    We have one of those digital speedo's beside the road near me, and it usually reads 10% over what my speedo says. I don't know how they calculate it, never looked into it.

      A vehicle speedo isn't legally allowed to over read and these signs are often calibrated. That's where you'll get the 10% error usually.

    Regardless of you riding an ICE or electric bike.

    Does anyone else have a habit when watching videos of rides like this of doing shoulder checks? Then feeling very stupid! Even aware I had been doing it did not prevent a full turn of the head when Russ was leaving that last roundabout. Mind, I do it when sitting upstairs at the front on buses too. I guess it is a good thing that it is so instinctive.

    It seems crazy to me that the bike doesn't show brake lights on regen - if it's even equivalent to my Tesla, the regen is definitely more powerful than engine braking and it would make a lot more sense for the brake lights to come on.

      For the average rider I may agree but I get sick of forever seeing brake lights on and off in front of me. I just wish people would be more aware of what's happening behind them.... Maybe brake lights are a good thing after all 😂

      I just yell "sorry" or "excuse me".
      Like the old style reversing beepers, I think a bicycle bell makes it very hard to tell direction. The tone is too pure. I don't even use it on my bicycle, let alone my Zero.

      Yes, agreed, this is the beauty of choice. I personally wouldn't be seen dead on something like a Panigale or fireblade but I don't walk up to an owner outside the chip shop and say it to him but you should see the slatings I get from them 😂
