- I’m really excited to share my family’s journey through the adoption process. I am the proud mum of two beautiful children, one through adoption. We had such an incredible journey and I hope sharing it will inspire others to consider adoption.

I feel so unbelievably blessed to have found your channel and this video!! I'm from the UK and hubby and I have a 3 year old son. I had a really tough pregnancy and horrible birth and I have zero desire to carry another child. My husband and I are interested in adoption in the next couple of years, when our son is a little older. Members of our family are adopted and my cousin adopted a little girl 5 years ago. I'm so relieved it's not just me who has one biological child then wishes to adopt a second.

What a wonderful story, Me and my brother were both adopted when I was 5 years old and he was 4. It steered our lives away from disaster and now at the age of 26 I am looking to adopt with my soon to be wife in future. I love my adoptive parents, I don't view them and never have any differently as if they had given birth to me themselves. My biological mother was bipolar schizophrenic, and my biological father was only 22 years old at the time social services stepped in..My mother stopped showing to planned meeting sessions after just one meeting, I never saw her again. I recently connected with my biological father for the first time not long ago, and I doubt we will ever have a deep relationship, but it has been eye opening for me to meet with him and hear his side of the story, allowing me to fill in a lot of blanks. I think it also provided him some closure, we will continue to talk in future. My advice to any parent looking to adopt, would be the following: 1. Never lie to try to mislead your children about their past or the fact they are adopted (of course you can drip feed more intense detail as they get older, when you feel they can handle it) but not doing this robs a child of their sense of identity and will inevitably backfire on you as they grow older. 2. Make sure unconditional love is at the center of your parenting, not trying to mold or control, but doing what is in their best interest while not forcing. 3. Protect, protect protect... unfortunately I was subjected to a great deal of abuse, including sexual abuse before my adoption and after my adoption by two different males, if you are coming from abuse as a child you are likely easy pickings for future abusers (Also I am male, do not let your guard down about these kinds of things just because you have a boy). 4. And finally accept you aren't going to get it right 100% of the time, but always do your best, your children will grow to not only love you as a parent but appreciate you for what you have done, this in my opinion is a level of respect and appreciation that is not possible to achieve even with your own biological children.

We’re now starting stage one now. How long did you spend on your stage one work book? I want to do it thoroughly and carefully but also don’t want to hold things up.
Hey! We didn’t actually have a workbook at all. Each agency or local authority does things differently but I have heard of workbooks. Sorry I can’t help more x

Your process sounds really straight forward, you got yes all the way, you're young and already had a biological child. Unfortunately, that's not me ☹️
The circumstances I find myself in is adoption or nothing and the process, although I understand why it needs to be the way it is, sounds far too complicated and stressful. I can't handle anymore heartbreak in my life so I guess the idea of being a parent will have to be scraped, which is awful because my husband and I would be awesome parents 😞💔
How comes it’s so difficult for you? What have you been turned down over?
@@selfraisingsugar898 I'm a type 1 diabetic and, long story short, I was made severely visually impaired about 3 years ago. Having a baby naturally is now too risky for my health so adoption is the only option left. It's adoption or nothing. Adoption would never have been a choice I personally would have gone for.
I know we could get turned down more than once and I also know we won't be able to adopt a baby. I'm also not sure how I would cope if a child wanted to find biological parents. I would never stop them or make them feel guilty but I just don't think I would be able to be happy about it.
Without going into too much more, and more personal details, it's just not ideal but, as I said, it's adoption or nothing 😞

It’s important you discuss all your concerns with the agency so you have a realistic perspective of the process and what to expect
