  • Today's video is a review of the Sizzix Big Shot Switch Die Cutting Machine. I'm really enjoying this machine. I like the design, the fact it's quiet, and I like the larger size plates and that I can use the regular big shot plates.

Thank you for sharing this information. I am going to a convention and understand the vendor is selling this at a great price but only at the convention. I was on the fence about this one but think it is worth buying. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. I made a sliding structure on top of my table to help move my machine backwards and forward. I used drawer runners to build it.

Hi Christina, as an FYI, I watched Tim Holtz’s review of his version of the Switch. In his demo he recommends placing dies that are a lineal form, (such as square, rectangle, border strip, etc) on an angle on the plate, as opposed to vertical or horizontal. I believe he said that the pressure from the rollers is evenly distributed across the die, which makes it cut better and it causes less warping. It definitely works. I love the use of your divided stand to store the plates!

Christina, the reason the intricate dies if you have more cutting areas along the rollers you are dividing the pressure along more cutting areas so it does not cut well. When your intricate die is place horizontal then there is less cutting areas distributing the pressure so more pressure is exerted through the cut line so you get a better cut. Angling the die also works since you are distributing pressure through less cutting line. I had no issue with my Sizzix switch cutting intricate dies even without the precision plate. Though I do have that plate. Hope this information helps others.

I love this machine and I also have the Gemini. I can also use by older bigz dies. I have mine sitting on the 'Rotating Design Board from Totally Tiffany'. It works a treat and easily movable in a tight space. Worth a look. It is definitely quieter too. Thanks for the video Christina 🌼

ALWAYS cut UP not down, it is supposedly designed to cut that way as well as on an angle a bit. Also move the dies around to different areas of the plates to keep them from warping IE dont cut just in themiddle or top all thetime

Thank you. My Switch is on its way! I have Big Shot and it’s good to know I can use my smaller plates with the switch. My platform is the one with the hinged sandwich layers though. I wonder if that will still be ok?

I see you have an Empress. Can you do a comparison of these two? If not, which is quieter the Switch or Empress?

I think for the switch frame dies should be cut side down but for intricate they should be cut side up, from other demos I have seen doing it that way which is what the instructions say you may not even need the metal shim

Hi I have the Big Shot, it works great, so is there any reason I should upgrade to the Switch ?

I would say stick with the big shot if it’s working for you. I got the switch because my big shot broke a while back.
