I was disappointed with the machine that I have had for two years and considered getting another. The timing of this video was perfect for me. The evaluations Jennifer has done were insightful and well presented. I appreciated the mention of a sale price as well. I just ordered the Platinum 6 based upon her advice.
I think that it is most important to use the links she provides as this is how she is compensated for the fine service she provides us. Keep up the great work, Jennifer!

I have a big shot and I used to have trouble with the plates warping until I saw a video someone posted on how to keep that from happening. It REALLY works! She said to use a new plate on the bottom and when you put your paper with the die to be cut on, put it upside down so the cutting blades are facing up, then cut. The top plate will warp a little but when it starts humping a little I just flip it over. The bottom plate stays like new. When the top one needs to be replaced, which isn't very often because I've been using the same top plate (and bottom one) since I heard this which was over a year ago, that's when I will switch the bottom plate with a new one. and rotate. I wish I could remember the origin of the video with this idea. But it really works. Turning the die facing up instead of down against the bottom plate is the secret. And as much as I would like to try other cutting machines, I really can't afford to. So I'm glad this works for me.

You constantly amaze me with your attention to detail and I always wonder how in the world you know what to create with all the different stamp and die sets you feature. I recently needed to purchase the plates for the Empress. The person I reached in customer service at Anna Griffin said they were out of stock and wouldn't be back for several months. She took my name and phone number and promised to call when they were available. I really didn't think I would hear back from her, but two months later I got a call from her that they were in and I could place my order. Needless to day, I am impressed that she did follow through with a personal call to me. I'd say Anna Griffin's customer service is the best ever!

I would love to know how thick the cutting plates are for the Empress. It looks like they are 4mm (instead of Gemini's 3mm) but I'm hoping that they are 5mm for no warping. Thanks so very much!

Good evening, I purchased the Gemini, mini Gemini and the Gemini Pro. I also have the Empress. I can tell you since I got the regular Gemini machine when it launched several years ago, it’s more powerful than the Empress. However, the plates for the Empress are more durable. I’ve replaced my regular Gemini plates 4 or 5 times, I lost count. The Empress, I’m still using my original plates. This video is very useful. The Gemini plates have been improved. They needed to because plates get expensive. Thank you for such a helpful and professional video. I’m very satisfied with ALL my machines. My hubby has banned me from buying any more. Lol lol but that doesn’t work. Happy crafting.

You just made my day, thank you Jennifer. I have just purchased the Empress machine. In fact, I have just unboxed it and it is sitting on my table. I have had the Empress mini for a while now, and use it almost daily. It sits out on my desk and is sooo handy to have there. I bought the mini because it has a cutting plate of 4.25, and is larger than most mini machines. This makes it much more versatile. The plates have not warped at all. Because of how quiet this little machine is, I decided to buy the Empress. I sold my Gemini to help pay for the Empress. The Gemini plates warp terribly, and the machine is very noisy. I have purchased quite a few Anna Griffin items, and have had hardly any problems. The odd couple I have had, I can tell you that their customer service is EXCELLENT! Hope this helps some of you.

Instead of tearing pages from the instruction book, I make a photocopy of the pages I need then laminate the copy, punch a hole in the corner, add a ring and keep the pages I want, next to each machine that it matches. This way I still have the original book which I file away in case I need to make another photocopy in the future.

I have both sizes of Gemini, and have put them away as I’m fed up with the plate warping. Have tried everything to minimise warping, but nothing works. Will never recommend them. Gemini should sell their plates much cheaper to justify investing in their machine. Have since invested in Sizzix Big Shot, and Big Shot Plus. Don’t have any problems with plate warping. Love them. The Empress does look interesting as one don’t have to ‘crank’ a handle. Thank you for sharing x

As I keep the instructions but generally lose them I make basic graphic diagrams for each sandwich, print them on a clear sticky label and attach the label directly to the macchine that way the settings are easily visible where and when I need them. I have an 8 year old electric die cutter which I don't use often so having the settings on the machine is a great help.

I have had my Gemini Jr about 5 years (can't believe it has been that long!). I have tried several manual machines, even ones that can be adjusted, but I find myself reaching for the Gemini most of the time because it is fuss free and seems to cut through any cardstock with any die I have tried easily. I will cut my magnetic plate down and tape the three plates together to help the warping!!! What a great idea. I am pondering the larger Gemini but this little Gemini Jr is a wonderful workhorse and I strongly recommend it, like Jennifer does. And as I said, it's at least 5 years old and still going strong!

I have all three of those machines in the large and medium sizes. I also have the mini in the Gemini and empress machines. I use all of them! I did buy the empress and Geminis through HSN. I do like the plates of the empress machine the best. I’ve used the spellbinders machine for years. I have machines upstairs and downstairs so it kind of depends where I am crafting as to what machine I use. Excellent video Jennifer as always.

The sandwich is really simple and I always get great results. I was really impressed with the pressure of this machine on embossing folders, it takes them to a whole new level of detail.

I have used the empress for about 3 years since it came out. The instructions in the box are for the white magnetic mat. When you use the black magnetic mat you cut into the black magnetic mat. The replacement mat is about $10 versus the plates that are $40. When you cut and emboss it happens on one pass cutting into the black mat. Watch Anna’s video to see but I won’t go back to another machine. I have the mini too which is wonderful for sentiments. So quick!

I have all three machines except my Platinum is the large one. I have had it for a couple of years and can't say enough good things about it. It is heavy because of the steel insides. A real work horse. As a bonus it also works with the Heartfelt Creations molds (the reason I got it) and the Sizzix Bigz dies. I have never had a problem with the plates. The only thing I have had a problem with are the AG cut/emboss folders and that is why I got the Empress. Her dies are thicker so I use it for everything AG. I have not had it long but so far I am very pleased with it. The Gemini Jr. was my first machine and I have not used it since I got the Platinum. The plates were quick to warp and I just loved the Platinum. If you have no problem cranking it would be my recommendation. They also have extended length plates that come in handy.

I used to have the Spellbinders as well which I sold but it was very nice.

I gotta tell you, even though I love my Empress, it's pretty awesome to hear you give it a thumbs up. Little FYI. There are only 2 sizes to the Empress. The mini and the size you show in the video. The larger plates are used for Anna's larger dies like her easel dies. I have both the large and the regular size cutting plates but I always seem to reach for the large plates. Great video. Very informative.

I think Sara from Crafter's Companion and Anna Griffin will both be thrilled with your review! And I'm happy that you've endorsed my personal die cutting machine choices! I've had the regular size Gemini for a few years now and LOVE it. I just purchased a new set of plates and I also recently bought a set of their double sided die plates. Love that Sarah is now making dies that do double duty and cut two designs at once! A few months ago, I was considering buying another smaller machine so I could have one upstairs since my Gemini is not the most portable. I ended up getting an Empress Mini a few weeks ago when Anna had her big annual sale. I got that little beauty for over 50% off!! It was an amazing deal and it's even better now that I know how well the plates and the machine hold up over time. Money well spent!! TFS, Heather

Thanks for doing these reviews, Jennifer! I have many die cutting/embossing machines I've used over the years (Cuttlebug, Bigshot, Bigshot Plus, Vagabond 2, Sidekick, Diamond Press Marquise, Stampin' Up Cut & Emboss regular and the mini version also, Spellbinders Platinum 6, and recently bought the Tonic Studios Tangerine). The Tangerine is the best of them all for thin dies and embossing folders of all types from what I've experienced! It cuts through very intricate dies with clean even results, and I can easily now use some dies from years ago that just wouldn't cut all the way on the other machines no matter the shim combos. The embossing folders produce deeper and more even embossing with the best effects I've ever seen! So, the Platinum 6 sits on the shelf unused with most of the others, and I just use the Vagabond for BigZ dies. The Diamond Press Marquise is the king of the small machines -- it cuts like butter through thin dies and the folders last a long long long time. It's great on the desk or to take on a trip. The Tonic Studios Tangerine is now my clear favorite. :)

Excellent video Jennifer! After watching this, I had decided to order the Platnum 6. I just now finished unboxing it, and ran a very intricate butterfly die through it. And it cut through the cardstock perfectly on only one pass!
I think I'm going to LOVE this machine!
I just wanted to let you know that I truly, appreciate the demo you did on these awesome machines.
I really enjoy your channel, with all of the wonderful card tutorials. And this unboxing was something I was also, very thankful for. At the time my Bigshot was losing it's pressure, and I was looking to purchase a new die cutting machine. I wasn't really needing an electric style just yet. And had been interested in the Spellbinders.
Anyway, thank you so very much, sweetie!
    Hugs 💕 Suzy

I bought the Empress machine 2 years ago after using a cuttlebug for one year. I really think the electronic machine is a space saver because I can leave it set up on my desk (on the edge) and it is always ready to use. I don't have to clear away the top of my desk to manually crank. The electronic ones also have more pressure than the hand crank machines. I positively love my empress and I got it from HSN on one of their craft shows with the special deal and free shipping. It is literally my right hand when I am card making! I had no idea that you used one that does not show on your videos. You are really careful with your reviews and trials. I appreciate that extra effort. You are one of only two card crafting shows I watch, the other being Lavinia stamps which I dearly love.

Hi Jennifer- thank you so much for this. I looked at the Gemini machines, but they are soooooo expensive in Australia, so I ended up with the couture creations go power and emboss. It was roughly half the price and there are 3 huge advantages to this machine... 1. REALLY quiet. 2.never fails (very important- lol!) 3. Is capable of cutting steel rule dies and 4. Weighs the same as the spellbinders machine. 5. Foot print is quite economical for an A4 cutting machine. 6. Plates are economical and work until they crack. Actually that’s a heap more, obviously no buyers remorse here! Disadvantages 1. You have to place the die face up, so the die has to be taped to the paper. 2. Pressure is great enough that the paper can “stretch” 3. You have to replace the “c” plate - cut plate...

I first bought the full size Gemini when it was first released in the US many many years ago. Life happened I had to sell it so quite a few years ago I got the Gemini Junior and I do love it but I don't like all the warping. I just bought the magic mat but I don't hold out a lot of Hope for it. I have one die that won't fit in the Junior, and I've considered getting the empress to have a larger machine rather than the larger Gemini. You nudged me a little further along in that. The pressure is amazing in the Gemini and it will cut anything, but that creates warping. Most of Anna's stuff is not quite my style just way too ornate for me, but I've had a feeling that the empress might perform as well as the Gemini but have less warping. So it's nice to see after having put it through its Paces for a long time that is your conclusion. Thank you so much for what you do for us. I can't believe you repurchased all of those machines to show the unboxing. Oh and the Gemini has now come out with I believe the Gemini Pro which is even bigger then the large Gemini. Personally I can't see ever needing a machine that big but who knows where dies are going to go

This Empress in your video IS the largest one. It comes with the small plates and you have to buy the larger plates separately. Empress has a mini, but it's too narrow in my opinion. Gemini, on the other hand, just came out with Gemini Pro which can handle 12 inch width.
I have all three machines in your video and I love Empress the most. It's quieter and you can use the plate either way. The plates are better quality. You do have to press the "Run" button, if you have to find a con about this machine. It also has a handle that's handy. The gemini senses the plates and start running, however, the plates have to be full width, which I find very inconvenient.

Good evening Jennifer, the good thing about a manual is if you have a dodgy electricity supply (living in a little village that loses power on a regular basis), you don't need to stop crafting. I have the Gemini which i have had for about 5 years and it is great and cuts really well, but i'm still trying to find the right plate combination when embossing. I have the Sizzex bigshot plus as my manual but it does take up a lot of foot space both in size and when using. Both machines i find that they still have their sweet spots that they are not suppose to have, which is annoying especially when you can't turn because the die only goes in one way. Thank you for sharing your ideas and thoughts on the subject and actually being honest in what you find. Because you have paid good money for these machines, you can give a more honest opinion than if you had received them from the companies free of charge.
