I typically love being the 1st to do something but I'm not sure about that one...😂 It is a cool thing to be able to say though, glad it was me and glad it was on video! I was shocked when the blower started up no problem... LOL I would love to stop by sometime!
Nice plunge! The patio came through the winter perfectly! Can’t wait to enjoy it this summer, feel free to stop in if you guys are in the neighborhood, I still owe you a boat ride!

I found that duct taping a layer of cardboard under my hand tamper works fine as a cushion as well. Those Amazon boxes have to be used for something~

Hey man. We use that techniseal sand. You gotta make sure you get the high performance, if you have big joints. The other stuff looks similar but only good up to 1" joints.
Techniseal also makes foam glue. It works SOOO well. If you haven't seen it, you should look into it.

I just use turf mats from Home Depot. Cheap , thin but strong enough not to scuff pavers. Little bit more of a pain than having a paver roller. But easier than going with a hand tamper. I’ve done it your way too. So I know the struggle 😂 Paver rollers are so expensive
Not a bad idea at all... Paver rollers are really expensive and certainly not a priority on the buying list...LOL ✌
As soon as I seen you fall in the lake I was like that would be me. Last video I kept saying if that was me walking around the worksite I would fall in somehow.

Hey Kyle! Love the vids. Always look forward to watching them. Can u elaborate more on ur topic of sealing? I just recently had my paver patio installed and was planning on getting them sealed. In ur professional opinion, u don't think sealing should be done? Can u explain further why not to seal? Or maybe even make a short video explaining why it's a bad idea? Thanks again Kyle.... Thank you, glad you are enjoying the channel! So I don't think sealing a patio is a bad thing but you need to make sure it is done properly. That's what I'm not sure about... I don't have much experience with sealers and there are so many bad stories of sealer ruining pavers. Which if that happens as the installer, you could be liable for replacing them. That would be a huge hit and it is something I am not comfortable with risking. Sealing pavers does help with protection and adds life to the pavers for sure. But just like sealing a deck, you will need to do it every couple years for it to be effective because it wears off... My only advice would be to make sure the one doing it has the right experience so nothing bad happens.

I recommend Dry Treat Stain Proof for a sealer. It impregnates, just be careful where you buy. There’s a bunch of knock offs

That patio looks awesome. I used the Gator maxx g2 sand on that patio I did last summer. It was pretty easy to use and didn't leave a residue. Set up really strong almost like rubber gym flooring in consistency.

Love your videos, starting my patio soon, whats your opinion on drain tile under a patio? Putting patio next to pool and wanna make sure i get rain water away
Thank you! Drainage tile under the patio will do nothing but help, especially when it abuts a pool. In some situations I think it is overkill but still, it will not hurt at all. Good luck with your patio! ✌

Great video as always. They keep me motivated to work ony own 1,100 sqft open grade patio. I was wondering if you would recommend I use easy joint or poly sand? My joints can handle either option. Im in Mass too so I gotta think about freeze thaw cycles, water draining etc. Easy Joint sounds better because the water drains down into the open grade and then deeper down into the earth. But IDK if its as good as they say or what not because it seems like all the landscaping stores down here in southern MA carry mostly poly sand. Im alright with paying the extra for easy joint if its going to be less maintenance and better over all. Anyways thanks for the great videos, please keep um coming, cheers!
Thank you very much and I'm glad they are helping with your own project! I don't typically use easy joint for any paver project, I only use it for particular situations. When done right, regular polymeric sand works just fine and is much cheaper...

I been following you since 2 years ago I have been doing landscaping for 6 years but not hardscape only did one hardscape building a wall but since I been watching you I feel like I can do this on my own because the company what advice would you give to someone who haven’t done hardscape before and trying to get into but have some experience
Hey man, glad the videos have been helpful for you! I would say the best thing for you to do is try to get a few small patio / walkway projects and ease your way into it. You can offer the service but only accept what you feel comfortable with. Then after a few installs you will get better and better. And once your work gets better, you will get more job opportunities simply because of it. Slow & steady wins the race. Good luck and God Bless! ✌
What do you think of the g2 gator sand? I find the g2 sand hardens better however the grains of sand in the tec seal bags is more fine so it’s easier to get the sand in small cracks where cuts are.
I used G2 for a couple years, I had pretty good luck with it until last year. A few projects took awhile to set... But they did set eventually and are still good. But I think they got some bad feedback because my supplier switched to the Techniseal last year. I used it on a ton of projects last years and have been very happy with the results. One thing I can say is that the Black G2 is definitely darker than the black Techniseal. Either way, they are both good products.
Hey, I asked this inanother vid too, but would love to know. Yall use a a permeable base and bedding layer of clean aggregate. What prevents the polymeric sand from sinking into the bedding and base layers? I want to start using permeable base/bedding layers but dont understand how polysand lasts in this situation.
The sand gets stopped in the bedding stone because it binds up. And then once you have watered the poly sand and it hardens, it will not migrate because it basically is not sand anymore at that point. ✌
The matt for the compactor is worth it ... imo

I just had concrete pavers installed with techniseal poly. I was advised to seal it but i definitely dont want to f up the color. Heard you say no need. Any other advice? The biggest worry is contractor said the concrete can stain... i dunno. i also live in San Diego not a ton of rain.
I don't think sealing pavers is necessary. It will help prevent stains for sure but it is just like sealing a deck, you need to do it every couple years or the sealer will just wear off... And if you don't do it just right or if it rains before the sealer sets, you could mess up the pavers. So if you do decide to seal it, make sure it is done properly and wait about 30 days after the install to make sure the poly sand is completely set and that the pavers have been properly cured also.

This may be a dumb question, but do you not lose “too much” polymeric sand into the leveling chips in this process?
Not a dumb question at all. The chip stone may eat a little compared to sand bedding but not much more. Once the polymeric sand clogs the chip stone it stops. And then when you water it and it hardens, it won't migrate further. ✌
Hay Pro, do you know the Paver Roller from Weber? I don't know if it's available in the USA, possibly for hire. It's a very good machine for compacting pavement. There are two different types, a VPR 450 or a VPR 700, maybe you can rent one somewhere and try it out. Very good work guys.

Do you think it's better than G2? Have heard some people complain about Gator poly sand but I haven't had any issues personally. Also gotta love 102.5 in the morning!
I had great luck with it all last year. I used it on every project and they all set very well. The year before we had a couple issues with G2 and so did many other contractors / homeowners. That is actually a big reason my supplier switched... So, not sure what they changed but I never really had an issue with Alliance before last year...

Thanks John! I usually want the water to drain into the base or backfill of a wall, but in this situation I wanted it to run over the wall and into the water. So the easy joint was the better option on this one. ✌

At the risk of asking a stupid question, could you use stone dust purely for bluestone slab joints if you bedded them in chipstone and based with open grade? I’ve always liked the finish of stone dust, and I absolutely understand why it shouldn’t be used for base or bedding, but does it work well enough for jointing? Or does it cause issues here as well? This is for a project in a flat backyard and neighborhood in Connecticut. No history of issues with flooding of any kind.
What type of pavers are those? Great job by the way!

If you pressure wash the pavers, can I just reapply polymeric sand to the top?
You need at least 1" of the joints cleaned out before new polymeric sand. If you just add a thin skim coat, it will not bind well and will start to peel off after some bad rain storms.

Pretty funny chit about the 4" bag claim. Honesty in package advertising has never been a strong standard. Companies have been dishonestly over killing the claims on their products since labels on products originated.

I want to put a patio in at our montana place. Kalispell has hard winters. Is it possible to do what this series details in an environment where it gets below zero?
Nice, this method is especially good for very cold climates. The only thing I would recommend in really harsh winter climates is to dig a bit deeper than the typical 8-10 inches to create a deeper base. That will help insure no issues. But yes, this is the method for you ✌
