BTW - Last weeks Coronation didn't take place in the Throne Room. It was at the Dragon Pit. So no risk of the Throne being melted. Just so no one is confused. Easy to miss on one watch and a quick turnaround for a video.

Because Aegon ran away and was still hungover from his drinking so he was still shocked when he heard his father died and he doesn't want to be king. Even he thinks Rhaenyra is way more deserve than her. But, too bad his moronic mother and his psycho grandpa push him so there will be someone with Hightower blood can sit in Iron Throne.
Meanwhile, Rhaenyra's coronation is way peaceful because they are still grieving of Viserys' death and she realize she got usurped by her best friend / step mom and the fact Otto tried to manipulate her for peace but she has to bend the knee to Aegon is a huge red flag and she noticed that. Also, Daemon is lust for revenge for his brother's death and Rhaenyra stopped him. And people in Dragonstone still remember her as the Realm's Delight, the real heir to Iron Throne.

While it is interesting I also like the idea that the Dragons were following Aemond and Lucerys. Just not their words. Aemond was pissed and resentful and wanted revenge for his eye. His mind and reason tell him just to scare him but deep down he did want to hurt Lucerys. And the only way a Dragon can interpret that is by biting them. Lucerys on the other hand was trying to run but he was also ashamed of having to run. When Vhagar started attacking maybe Lucerys deep down did want to fight back even though he knew he couldnt and shouldnt. This is the same kid who fought back and sliced Aemonds eye out even though Aemond was bigger and he had just gotten pushed around by him. But Arrax felt his will to fight and attacked to try and defend himself and his rider.

Yeah that makes sense. As the book is a history book, unless Aemond went and told everyone he lost control of his Dragon (which he absolutley would never do) the only people who would know are Aemond and whoever he does tell. Maybe his mother? But telling anyone that its possible to just straight up lose control of a flying nuke would turn the entire realm against them in fear. Because the entire reason they are royalty is because they control Dragons. If that control is partially a lie it would tear the realm apart.

Some even theorized he might've survived the fall and lived a life as an amnesiac fisherman as there were scattered accounts of someone matching his description whose identity couldn't be confirmed... which would be ironic if the Maesters incorrectly assumed Lucerys might've survived when it was actually his "father" who managed to escape history...

I thought episode 4 and 5 were some of the worst. We got 20 minutes of Daemon silently walking around the city with his niece and then talking her to a brothel. The only good part was the last 5 minutes where Otto is exposed. Then in episode 5 we get a 20 minute wedding that climaxes with Criston beating a red shirt to death and people try to compare it to the red wedding.

Granted, who's to say taking his eye wouldn't, but hopefully you get my point

For that entire final part of the episode... Seeing Luke coming in for the Landing. I was like ''This isn't right... It's...'' Hears the roar... ''Oh no...' Second i saw her i knew Luke was dead. But i kept hoping he would make it out. But Aemond tought he knew his Dragon. But he is but a Child riding the biggest Dragon. A Dragon who's fought in wars. She was there for the Conquest of the seven Kingdoms. Or the 6 as it would have been back then. She doesn't play around. She is a war machine. And Aemond didn't respect that. And thus his Dragon didn't listen. She went in and killed Luke as she knows how to kill. She showed her companion how it's done. And Aemond... Well, he got the best and worst lesson of his life. And he started a war. You know what they say! ''The Storm Broke, and the Dragons Danced''... We saw the start of the Dance of the Dragons. Next season is gonna be a bloodbath. We're gonna see Dragons fight, burn and kill eachother. Fire and Blood is their house words. And that's what this show will deliver. It was a thrilling epiosde. I haven't been this on edge for a show in a long while. HotD is probably one of the greatest shows in ages. I'm even justifying calling it better than Game of Thrones right now.
Funny little side note. I've seen people get upset online over people loving Daemon so much. People being all like ''He's evil and abusive. How can you like him. Must be something wrong with you''. To wich i think to myself, ''Does that mean everyone who loves the Halloween movies are OK with brutal murder of inocent civilianz?'' Like, do people forget that we put ourselves in totally different shoes as we invest ourselve in fiction. When we see a film of a lone Pilot blowing up a massice space station we cheer because ''Give it to the man''. But in real life we'd all ask ''What about the inocent people on that station''. I don't know about you. But i have a feeling that IRL we'd see Daemon as a Putin or some shit. But it's not real life. It's fiction. And i see this show trough such eyes. I don't think Daemon is a good guy. But in therms of the show, i like the character because in the world we're in, he's the shitbag on the side we cheer for at the moment. And i love Matt Smith. People really need to understand that liking a character in fiction doesn't mean you like evil people in real life. Daemon is an Amazing character. And that's what i like. We're watching a show where incest is normal. I as a viewer see that trough the values and norms of that world. So sure, you go sleep with your uncle. Be happy my Queen. Or rather, be mighty. They are a powerhouse together.

You're right - especially about the Daemon love/hate/whatever. There is NO ONE on this show who is "pure good" or "pure evil" - they all have their faults, selfish desires, motivations, etc. And at times they are all reprehensible. BUT, that's the sign of great character development. And I think the Daemon (Matt Smith) love comes from the way he plays that character. He's chewing up the scenery, and conveying more with a glance than many actors do with pages of dialogue.
They've done a helluva job with HotD - I was skeptical going in, but I am very pleasantly surprised.

I love how they literally do it in one episode. Turning Rhaenrya into a mad queen whereas they couldn’t even properly convey and convert Daenerys into a mad queen in 8 seasons.

      She's not even "mad".

I think it's implied that a Targaryen's control over their dragon depends on how closely bonded they are. For example, Daemon is so closely bonded to his dragon that it even imitates his movements. And when Daemon took an arrow earlier in the season the dragon screamed in pain.

The only question I had after watching this episode was how did Rhaenyra and Daemon find out that Lucerys died at the hands of Aemond? Not like anyone would've found his body or the remains of his dragon.

Everyone at Storm's end saw the old 19 year old guy with a dragon the size of a village go after a 14 year old with a dragon 10x smaller who never returned. Not exactly a stealth kill.

First off Jeremy, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your reviews. You have a real love of movies and tv and the thing that separates you from the pack is your knowledge of how films should be structured and how the different projects succeed or fail at that. And, you are hilarious. Keep up the great work my friend.

The buildup with Vhagar hunting Arrax gave me major Jaws vibes, and since Jaws is the absolute pinnacle when it comes to suspense and monster movies, that's a good thing. When Aemond and Vhagar initially come out of the clouds immediately brought me back to the scene where Brody is throwing chum in the water and the shark comes out for the water; obviously, the dragons were moving much faster and the scene was much more intense, but, to me, I was taken back to the first time I saw Jaws. House of the Dragon is great so far and, much like with Game of Thrones, I don't want to wait until next year for more. George R.R. Martin truly wrote some great scenes and many have been interpreted wonderfully.

Almost everyone is a victim to their own stupidity or misunderstandings or accidents. I haven’t read the books, but I understand Aemond means to kill Luc in the book.

  • @jasonmcmurtry7812

Aemonds face after Vaghar gets burned by Arrax is just sheer terror. He knows he can't stop this monstrous dragon from killing Luke and Arrax. The look of oh shit, I've just started a war. Wow just acting, visuals and knowing he only meant to scare him, but that is all gone now. Now to wait like 2 years for Season 2 lol.
