    The "floatyness" of F1 games is why I appreciate the W08 in gtsport. GT's handling physics are very solid especially on max ffb and with the F1 car it's very easy to feel every bit of the road in your hands. Transitioning from the W08 in sport and playing a codemasters game the lack of feeling the physics are very noticeable.

    • @GTChucker86
      @GTChucker86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Anthos Lykos GT Sport gets the overall physics better than the codies F1 games but still you lack full control of the car’s actual capabilities as the W08 in GT Sport doesnt let you control or fine tune the ERS as done in the codies game. The codies game feels more immersive in the paddock but GT Sport feels more immersive in the driving aspect

    Spot on about the brakes. For the past few games now, the lock ups have been absolutely ridiculous. You have to constantly feather the brake pedal and really nail your braking spots. I don't get how they haven't fixed it yet. In real life, the drivers use the force of deceleration to push themselves full force into the brake pedal with barely any lock ups, assuming they don't steer at the same time.

    • @samoksner

    Performing well? You are talked to, face-to-face about it.

    100% agree on the track models (and other points as well), but I feel the track model topic should be brought up more often. The root for a lot of these track models is still based on F1 2010 and at this stage I find that unacceptable. It really hit home when MotoGP 19, also an annual title, came out this year with track models that look absolutely fantastic. It's high time for Codies to give the track models in F1 a facelift, because some tracks in F1 might actually score worst in class compared these tracks that feature in other racing games.

    Make sure you turn down the degree's of rotation on your wheel. That's something a lot of people forget to do when they play F1 games. They use somewhere between 720 and 1080 degree's for every other type of racing, but when you come to formula one, you really have to drop it down to 360. There's no other way to play it. If you don't, it will always feel strange. Once you turn the weight up, because you're not really moving the wheel as much to turn the car, the weirdness of the force feedback becomes less of an issue.

    • @Super_GT
      @Super_GT  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I pretty much always use 360 on every game and was already on that for this game.

    About braking, you exactly need to slam it and then easy up with it. For an example T2 in Austria, you slam brakes at 100m, keep it for 50m and then start easing up, last part of braking comes though gears. If you lock up, it’s basically because too high brake bias, too high brake pressure, too long holding brakes or turning at the same time.
    About steering hard to say how well it’s modeled as currently it’s completally opposite to what it was in F1 2019. However it was easy to notice that F1 cars have power steering and F2 cars don’t as F2 cars were a lot heavier.

    @Milkym0o 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid! As mentioned on twitter, I struggled like you with the car feeling too floaty and sensitive.
    This is how I make it feel more consistent:
    Wings: low front wing (2-4) and high rear wing (4-8).
    Diff: Anywhere from 50-85% depending on track, lower is better for catching tank slappers. Can set on throttle higher for qualifying to pump out that one lap pace, then drop it to 50-60% for the race. Usually 50/60% on throttle, 70% off is a good baseline for races.
    Both cambers max right, both toes max left.
    Springs (4-6) depending on track/curbs. Stiffen them if losing control of car under heavy braking (hairpins etc).
    Roll bars, have the rear set a little stiffer than the front. Something like 7 front, 8 rear is nice. May need to adjust for some tracks due to nature of corners.
    Ride height: set to 4 front, 5 rear for practically all tracks.
    Brake pressure: anywhere from 75-85% depending on preference and track.
    Brake bias: Suggest 54%-56%.
    Public Multiplayer is a blast for a quick laugh, as with any racing game, if you want a more respectful and authentic experience however - you're best off joining leagues that promote clean racing. Luckily F1 2019 have integrated this feature into the game which is a big plus in my eyes.

    When compared to GT Sport or Assetto Corsa or the other sim style games F1 has always had strange physics for wheel drivers and they have not improved. F1 2019 physics is more of a disappointment than past years because their association with Fanatec and the Podium wheel base plus F1 style wheels led me to hope more emphasis would be placed on wheel driver physics. The default brake settings are really strange this year causing lock ups early in the braking zone that never used to happen in F1 2018. I have had to set my brakes linearity to 90 to allow at least some pressure on my break pedal before locking up. But the cornering physics does not take advantage of any of the provided feedback capabilities that are in modern wheels. No scrubbing vibration whenever under steer is being induced, no vibration when the brakes are about to lock up. Very disappointing indeed. You simply have to drive differently in F1 games than in any other sim style game, much more visual and less reliant on feedback feel

    Using a control pad for it definitely helped to get a better feel for games like Gt sport and project cars 2.
    But in a similar sense to other yearly sports games. There's not much more they can do. Other than swapping drivers and updating the cars. This year is just more of the same.
    What I'd like to see them try is an aero sculpting/car creation feature to actually create your own car.
    1) Pick a base chassis from one of the existing cars.

    I think the reason behind the floaty vague physics in Codemasters games is the result of being designed primarily to work well with a controller as opposed to a wheel and pedals or to being realistic or authentic to an actual F1 car.
    Personally I don’t play this game because they still haven’t added VR support. I’m really getting fed up with Codemasters and probably won’t buy another of their titles without serious changes to their priorities for game design, pricing, etc.

    I have a strange relationship with Codemaster's games. When I was young I played ToCA Race Driver only because I didn't have a PS2 and Gran Turismo. I've played Dirt Rally only because there was no sequel to the RBR game. Now I play F1 because there is no alternative either. Codemasters found the way to make profit every year just like EA. So when you've became a monopoly you don't have to evolve and grow. For me Code's physics was shitty 15 years ago in ToCA games, it was shitty 10 years ago in GRID and it still absolute shit today. I don't understand how they do their "esport" it's beyond my comprehension (with alive iRacing). I disliked new story mode because when i buy an F1 game I want to race with the same racers I see every weekend. In this year these two nonexistent drivers are replacing two of the real one. Graphics somehow looks plastic from one year to another. And one more thing: record goddamit commentators from another countries. Not everybody watches Sky around the globe.

    Speaking about the brakes gran turismo sport is exactly the same just turn ABS off and go into a VGT/Gr.1/Formula 1/Redbull x and you'll have to be extremely gentle on the brakes (at least with a controller).

    • @samoksner
      @samoksner 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's with a wheel and pedals so in GT Sport he's able to modulate the brakes and throttle much better than a controller I think... but the idea that these cars don't require close to 60 kilos or whatever of braking force to get the brakes working at all is just wrong so to make the pedal so sensitive at the top of the stroke is odd. I could almost understand if it lets you slam on the brakes and expects you to get to 90-99% percent braking without hitting 100% where you would lock up and moving the lock up point up as the tires wear out but it's stupid sensitive all the time.

    I've just started playing this game (I know, I'm a year behind....it was on sale lol) and already I totally agree with your point about the throttle and brake sensitivity. I haven't even got out of the F2 car yet but man, it *does not* want you going full throttle or full brake at all, does it? You have to ease them both on so gently! I hope the F1 cars aren't quite as bad as that, but judging by this video, probably not lol
    I'm also not keen on how the F2 scenarios just throw you straight into the middle of a race and tell you to "compete!" straight away without having any practice or prior knowledge of the track. The second track (Spielberg?), I literally had no idea where I was going! I actually thought I was at Spa at first (which led to a huge crash and a restart lol). It took me multiple restarts just to gain a basic understanding of the track layout, so obviously........I was not competitive in the slightest. Currently I'm on the Abu Dhabi race, but it's been a few years since I've driven that track, so I really need a few laps to relearn it, but nope....just get on there and race it! Trying to learn it while all the cars are bunched up at the start of the race means I haven't even managed to survive one lap so far lol

    Don't you guys think the reason why the car handling in Codemasters' F1 games is so stiff, skiddy and nervous is an overly simplified tyre model? Whenever I play F1 and the car starts to slide I feel there is something unnatural in the way the wheels interact with the track surface

    Finally someone speaks about the physics/handling of this game I thought I was the only one who found them weird. When I jump on games like Project Cars 2 or Assetto Corsa I barely need any time to get used to it but when I haven't played the F1 games in a while it's almost like a shock.
    It feels just wrong and as if it's not made for a steering wheel. Obviously I never drove an F1 car but I'm pretty sure these cars wouldn't feel like that.
    Also the contact physics are horrible for example when I touch the rear tyre of an opponent with my front tyre the opponent should spin and not me.
    My biggest problem with those games are general physics and handling.

    I think it's codemasters f1 now has pretty much the best career experience of any racing game. most racing games just have disconnected events you have to grind through, but f1 gives you actually the feeling of being part of a f1 season. In most other singleplayer racing games you pretty much allways want to be p1, but in f1 2019 it feels fucking great to be just p10 in a alfa, because that's a great achievement for the car's performance right now.
    SuperGT is completely ignoring in the multiplayer part, that there is the safety rating. It's like gt sport, you must escape the dirty low safety rating lobbys. Maybe brake at the start and finish last, but do all clean laps and suddenly you have clean racing.

    The worst thing for me is the F2 scenario section before F1. Nothing you do matters - I did it properly initially and got offered a contract from literally every team on the F1 grid. Then I restarted and crashed, retired etc and still got offered every team!
    I wish that there was an option to completed the full F2 season, with championship result deciding which F1 team you move to. There should have been 3 options - Full F2 season, Scenario F2 season, or Skip F2. Why not just have the option?
    Also is it just me or are all the car performances kinda wrong? Ive just been doing 25% GPs at the moment and McLaren are down in nearly last place and the Williams keep finishing 8th-12th!

    The issues with locking up and spinning out were something that made me stop playing f1 2018. It had the same issue for me. I dont have a great wheel and pedal setup but could manage other games. It was really annoying in 2018.. I'll probably pass this year and wait till next year

    After a long time without playing F1 games or gaming at all I get an XBox One. As one of the games I enjoyed the most was the Microprose Grand Prix one of the first titles I decided to buy was F1 2018. I really like it don't get my wrong and a HUGE improvements in terms of graphics since my gaming experience from the 90s but one thing I really miss is the ability to selected and play with multiple drivers it is imposible to win the Constructor Championship if you don't select on of the mayor teams. I would like to see local multiplayer capabilities and switching between drivers during the practice, qualification and races.

    I agree. From a pad user the physics are absolutely terrible. I want to play the game because it’s F1, but I can’t stand driving the cars. I just go back to Assetto Corsa every time. I also find the sounds are off and yes locking up happens far too much

    I totally agree with you when it comes to the balance. I play with the AI at 95 and qualifying is soo difficult to get above 16th (even in a Red Bull) but the race itself is much easier. Don’t have this issue on the 18 version. Beautiful game though.

      I did notice that in f1 2018 at some tracks, but it feels like it's more marked in this release. In F1 2018, in Monza, I the best car, and struggled to P5 on the grid, but in the race, using the same AI level, once I took the lead, I was just driving away from them. Really hope they can fix that, as it's frustrating not to get a proper challenge, or have to fight from way further back than ought to be the case. If I've messed up quali, then that's what I deserve, but sometimes, you feel like you've driven the wheels off and are nowhere near your team mate.

It's so nice to have a racing game I don't need to take seriously! Win the race? Cool, that was fun and a nice boost to my level; punted off mid race? I don't care, nothing at stake and it's all in good fun.

    I feel like the handling is like being on ice. The uphill section at spar I always spin out because an F1 car in real life should be able to handle it pretty much flat out. In this game I always have to lift off for to get round. I also don’t like how when you are using a normal controller their is no feeling between what you input and what happens in game. The handling is almost feels like it doesn’t work.

    I'm suffering from oversteer in Spain with a Ferrari is it anything to do with the setup or is it just the car?

    • @bruceparker1164
      @bruceparker1164 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is most likely your setup, as the feeling I've had so far with everything, is that it tends to understeer. The way I drive, I'd like a bit of oversteer instead. Guess we both have work to do on our setups to dial them to suit our driving. Maybe for me, it's because I learned to drive in a rear wheel drive that was snappy at the back. :D

    • @Milkym0o

      @@bruceparker1164 Ye, it's setup and possibly driving style - hitting the throttle too early etc can be a problem for many.
      I prefer a more understeer setup that feels solid and just use gear manipulation for rotation. Different strokes for different folks!

    As far as multiplayer goes - Unranked can be a ... I don't even have words for it. It really should be called 'evading noobs' or 'f1karts' after mario karts. However, if you play ranked and get to your S licence, then you can have some decent racing with respectful drivers and it can be indeed a lot of fun based on pure racing back and forth.

    F1 2018s physics felt excellent to me. Now locking up the brakes with the slightest touch and the inconsistencies with the throttle have been making it hard to enjoy the game. At first I thought it was my screens refresh rate haha.
