I don‘t think it’s fair to say F1 2019 is not enough of a new game compared to the last one. If you look at other franchises like Madden or FIFA, especially in terms of career mode, it‘s basically the same recycled game from the year before. They just tweak details, without significantly improving the game. With F1 2019, the addition of F2 adds a whole new dimension to the game, even though it is only partly implemented into career mode. From what I have heard so far, the actual gameplay (i.e. driving physics) has made a substantial step forward this year, which gives you the feeling that the new version actually is an improvement compared to the last one, which I think is the most important aspect when buying a new game.
I'm still playing F1 2018, and will probably wait until a price drop before I get F1 2019. I'm still disappointed that Codemasters did not put VR into the game.
You didn't mention that animations are the same since F1 2010, no damage on rear wings and tires. Same game as F1 2018 but now with F2 2018 (why not 2019)?
The AI is massively improved, you could not even get comparable racing craft from AI last year. Racing Craft not difficulty, they finally now behave like what a real driver would in 90% situations. Animations stayed the same as any damage to cockpit and inner part of vehicle in game was not approved by FIA. Graphic are way better and photo realistic at high settings. Penalty system is improved. Handling model is subtly different from last year, they introduce more and more advanced handling mechanics each year. It's easier to hope in with default setups and just play and not worry about telemetry. Min-max all other new features they introduced last 2 years so they are working properly and are more representative of realistic scenarios, so player cannot cheat AI.
I honestly don't think we have seen all of the story elements yet, I imagine there are more Butler and Weber moments to come but you would need to play lots of the game to see it all. Plus just the press clippings along add a lot in opinion. Also while I know you are not a big fan of it, Drivers Transfers in Career is HUGE. It can't be understated just how big a feature it is. It adds so much to the game as it never makes any sense having the same field each year minus whoever you replace. Now each season will feel completely different which makes a huge difference. It is such a game changer for many many fans and I am super hyped for this game now :)
There is the logo wtf1 in the games AND you are in person in the games ! (He is one the person in the garage when the pilots win the f2 champioship) that what i see.
I know I sound like a broken record here, but no VR means no buy. Racing in other sims in VR has absolutely ruined non-VR sims for me. My rig doesn't even have a screen in front of it anymore, because I simply cannot go back to racing on a 2D screen. It's a shame, because I *want* to buy this game. I *want* to give Codemasters my money, but I cannot even play it in any sort of enjoyable manner.
When using VR is graphics the same or is it bit pixilated thinking of getting one just hope graphics quality is the same as without it let me know thanks
@@Time4utube Using my Rift CV1, there is definitely some "screen door effect" involved, but even with the lower resolution when compared to a monitor, it's well worth it. Depending on your rig, you might have to turn some settings down, but it can still be beautiful. Nothing else even comes *close* to VR.
proper story mode and a friggin free drive through the pits like every respectable simulator is what would make F1 2019 shine. Oh well, yet another year to wait :(
I would like it to be more of a journey like Karting to F3 to F2 to F1 Commentary during qualifying race More strategy options More communication with Jeff More Game modes like Demolition Derby or a motorsport manger like thing Bigger deal at he end of a season Different practice programmes per season to make it less tiring And maybe a Pro Am series like Fortnite Forza Horizon 4 story like your lifestyle, houses and more customisation
Driver transfers are huge for me. I’m the type to play all ten seasons and the evolution of the teams performances combined with a drivers markets makes this a huge step up. I’m gunna wear out my playseat and CSL Elite this year haha
They should make it like the NHL games (at least used to be) so that you can choose to only play the first three scenarios or play a whole season of F2. It's not that hard to implement when you've got the foundation already built
I don't think so, because it's a different class, different riders, different challenges... I think it would be awesome in F1 2020 if they add a limit of team choices, controlled by the decisions you make, so that you really have to be careful with your choices and work yourself to the top!
I agree with you on F2 career mode. It feels to short. The graphics on a PS4 feel very much the same except the halo which has been cleaned up and looks a lot better. I got the game yesterday and haven't driven enough to comment on that, but the "shiny" tyre graphics are really annoying to look at. But I think the F1 franchise has run into the same problems as FIFA. You simply add minor pieces because you can't really revolutionize the game any more. That might also be why F1 2019 feels a lot like F1 2018 but with new drivers. But these are just my opinions..
I’m kinda hoping that with the addition of the 2019 f2 cars later in the year it will come with the ability to play an f2 season in carrer. I’m hoping the only reason it’s not in at launch is cause there’s a licensing issue
@@footballj6825 Resolution? My rx 580 and i5-9600k get me around 30 fps medium settings 1440p or 60+ fps max settings 1080p, it's a big diffrence, since you're basically multiplying the work load for your gpu by increasing resolution
You forgot to mention that theres now driver transfers in career mode, not only the player but all the AI can change teams between season and sometimes mid season
in a year time you can do only soo much, it's quite a short time to develop a game properly. So I guess when u take a sports game like F1 it's gonna be baby steps. Some creators try to create something special and they work on it for years but can't live up to the expectations. (Fable series is notorious for this) With that being said my last F1 game was 2017 so with the addition of some tracks like Germany and France (at least for me) a short F2 feel, transfers and an updated grid (drivers/teams) is more then enough for me. (also the interviews didn't take place in 2017)
Honestly, its a dissapointment that the story doesn't continue into F1. But, this means that they're making an effort to add a little flair, and they'll probably add more story in the next game after seeing the response.
That there isn't an option for a full season f2 career is crazy. That they still haven't added virtual mirrors so you can actually use cockpit view is getting really old.. But I guess all the real esport hero's drive their cars from the roof these days....
Great review Matt, as always. I'm somewhat disappointed about the F2 career being so short, I was expecting a full season with F2 before the move to F1 (having the option to skip F2 altogether as well). But after recently moving from F1 2017 to F1 2018 a few weeks ago, the new game looks extremely similar to what I am playing now. Maybe I will wait until it's discounted to give it a try. Thank you for the review!
Like you said. If you are using controller...the game kind of restrict the amount of rotation can be done. Each and every corner resulting a different rotation of the steering wheel even at constant input of 30 degree to the left of the controller for example. Is there anyway we can overide this and customize them? Like project cars 2...cause i really want to like f1 game siries.
Best way to do it is get a force feedback wheel, playing any decent driving game with a controller is like watching a movie blindfolded, not much point in doing it.
If you can do a full season of F2 (in GP mode, outside of Career mode) then why on earth can you not do an F2 season in Career mode? (Wouldn’t care of you took out the story bit tbh)
100% agree with your comments on the F2 addition, when it started and it threw me in midway though a race and it was over after three “scenarios” and about 10 laps. The story was great, I’m hoping they add this in properly like the old TOCA games
Did you know that Matt you're actually one of the mechanic in one of the F2 teams? I started a new career and when they change the cut scene to the garage, I thought one person looks awfully familiar lol
I completely agree with you about the F2 part of the game, I was looking forward to running through F2 trying to earn my spot in F1, I was quite disappointed when it turned out to be two races you join a handful of laps from the end and only one full race... And as you said, I was encouraged by the story part which quickly disappeared, it would have added a great depth to the game and made the rivalries seem that much more important.
I have the exact same feeling. After playing for a few hours its extremely difficult to think that you're playing a new title. IMO it feels the exact same as F1 2018, but just a little graphics bump
Agree about the story being continued throughout career mode. They should include something like from Nascar Heat games, where the ACTUAL real-life drivers are recorded with messages either congratulating you or telling you to watch out etc. This would add even further to this possibility. Also VR support needed. Could have a team member career mode, working up to team boss etc. So much could be done, but it also takes a lot of work to achieve all this. So just have to watch this space
what they need to do for career mode, is let us enter as an 11th team. with custom livery, signing a driver that isn't currently in f1 to race alongside us etc
Wtf1 already commented saying they don't think it important enough. He did know about it they got briefed on it when they went to codemasters they just had an embargo that was lifted today on when they could say it
It's a shame they didn't do more with the F2's. I'd have liked to have to finish in X position after a full season, to be able to move into F1. I remember back to the old EA NASCAR games, where'd you start in the Whelen Modified Tour, then move up into the Trucks, Busch, and then finally the Cup Series, and it made you feel like you'd earned your seat there.
i loved the laggy australian bit. hahaha .. btw if only they could get a storyline like in TOCA race driver 2.. I still dream of when I was a little child playing that awesome game
Honestly I have to agree with Matt, I've watched a few videos of the new game and I enjoy the aspect of F2 but the story should b developed further into F1, I on occasion play FIFA and it's story mode "The Journey" is kind of what I was hoping this year's career was going to be like, with cutscenes based on your performance and the way you act around the media, it's a great story mode and I wish that Codemasters can fully incorporate this into next year. Also for those who want a full season with F2 they should be given the option at the end of what I would say is the tutorial, with the option of being promoted or staying in F2
You were in F1 2018 too!!! There was a cutszene where you were in the Renault PitBox. I mean an actual character model of you. Like who have recognized him!!
Thank you for the review. I actually thinks its same game as 2018 but in different package. 2018 and 2019 are great games but F2 in career is just to make it longer little bit with couple of cut scenes. I was waiting much more different game with actual TV hud, better damage systems (without that annoying grey screen after terminal damage!!) and more feel to the cars. I don't have feeling that I'm driving 300 km/h and someone coming past me and not scare what happens if our tires makes contact. Cars are too much like space ships. I want actual something happen when I make contact to another car from high speed.

From what I have heard so far, the actual gameplay (i.e. driving physics) has made a substantial step forward this year, which gives you the feeling that the new version actually is an improvement compared to the last one, which I think is the most important aspect when buying a new game.
Matty you know damn well you're happy not because wtf1 is in the game, but because YOU are in the game
I'm still playing F1 2018, and will probably wait until a price drop before I get F1 2019. I'm still disappointed that Codemasters did not put VR into the game.
Prob waiting for PS5
@@Time4utube I just ask, because Codemasters has VR in Dirt Rally. Don't see why they can't implement it into their F1 games.
3:55 Nice try putting the rating screen up to try to block out that corner cut.

Matt : DID YOU KNOW WTF1 IS IN THE GAME??
Matt: A honest review of F1 2019
Also Matt: OMG, WTF1 is in the game
I have F1 2018. My next F1 game will be F1 2021
proper story mode and a friggin free drive through the pits like every respectable simulator is what would make F1 2019 shine. Oh well, yet another year to wait :(
4:50 F1 TH-camr Championship 2015 Flashbacks
You can do a full F2 championship it’s in the Grand Prix menu
TheCarThot But it is not attached to the story
Matts actually in the game cause when u win the championship matt seems to be an engineer
YM BulitZ he ben aarav and a few others got there face scanned a long time ago and since last year they are in the game
I would like it to be more of a journey like Karting to F3 to F2 to F1
Commentary during qualifying race
More strategy options
More communication with Jeff
More Game modes like Demolition Derby or a motorsport manger like thing
Bigger deal at he end of a season
Different practice programmes per season to make it less tiring
And maybe a Pro Am series like Fortnite
Forza Horizon 4 story like your lifestyle, houses and more customisation
0:00 why that mercedes look like a Ferrari aerodynamics?
FOM car
But Matt, did you realise you are in the game? In the F2 race win podium scene
Driver transfers are huge for me. I’m the type to play all ten seasons and the evolution of the teams performances combined with a drivers markets makes this a huge step up. I’m gunna wear out my playseat and CSL Elite this year haha
if the F2 bit was longer...say a full season ....would we all be moaning that it's too long?...sometimes i get the feeling codies can do no right!!
Would love to see a full karting to f1 career mode
I agree with you on F2 career mode. It feels to short.
The graphics on a PS4 feel very much the same except the halo which has been cleaned up and looks a lot better.
I got the game yesterday and haven't driven enough to comment on that, but the "shiny" tyre graphics are really annoying to look at.
But I think the F1 franchise has run into the same problems as FIFA. You simply add minor pieces because you can't really revolutionize the game any more.
That might also be why F1 2019 feels a lot like F1 2018 but with new drivers.
But these are just my opinions..
Chris F u playing on PS4 pro dude ? As hav 2018 and want it to look better
@@mattharris8111 I play on a standard PS4.
It just looks more smooth and nice, but it looks way better on PC which it should not but still does.
5:31 that pentagonal light flare😂😂
I’m kinda hoping that with the addition of the 2019 f2 cars later in the year it will come with the ability to play an f2 season in carrer. I’m hoping the only reason it’s not in at launch is cause there’s a licensing issue
i love the old reference to all the banter that matty and Tiametmarduk had during the old days with all of the dive bombs.
I don't have F1 2018 so I am hyped about it
Same, I am upgrading for F1 2016 so I can't wait!
@@footballj6825 make sure your pc can run it, or the game will look even worse than f1 2016 if you have to put it on lowest settings
@@mataskart9894 i7-8700k and 1080Ti, I'm good lol
I think it was 90% off on steam a few weeks ago. Ya missed out hard. :/
I didn't have F1 2018 so I'm excited for F1 2019
I haven't played an F1 game in a couple of years, so I'm loving this year's game!
in a year time you can do only soo much, it's quite a short time to develop a game properly.
Story on F1 2021 on PS5 should be awesome
2:42 unsafe return to the track

FYI: free play on steam this weekend through Monday and it’s on sale if you want to pick it up.
Hey, did you know? WTF1 is in the F12019 Game!
The changes: Drivers Transfers, F2, Storyline, HUD, Own Car, New Classic Cars, Better Cutscenes.
For me is E N O U G H
Agree think cutscenes are only in f2 part in F1 career they are the same but it's a start imagine what PS5 can do
That there isn't an option for a full season f2 career is crazy.
0:01 Mercedes with Ferrari nose?
It exist it's their early nose in 2019
Theres driver transfers in career, which is pretty cool
All drivers can transfer. You should up your career mode rating
Not all
Only you, butler and weber.
@@grimdun28 No, yesterday is is confirmed ALL drivers will transfer.
I only have one reason to buy it... WTF1 IS IN THE GAME
THEY ARE IN *ZE GAIM*
The slick and shine on the wheels alone is unreal
If you can do a full season of F2 (in GP mode, outside of Career mode) then why on earth can you not do an F2 season in Career mode? (Wouldn’t care of you took out the story bit tbh)
100% agree with your comments on the F2 addition, when it started and it threw me in midway though a race and it was over after three “scenarios” and about 10 laps.
The story was great, I’m hoping they add this in properly like the old TOCA games
I think nothing has changed since MicroProse - Grand Prix 2
I heard WTF1 is in the game
Never noticed tbh
Did I understood right? You say the car's handling are more simulation which is a big tick for you, but you play the game with the controller??
Did you know that Matt you're actually one of the mechanic in one of the F2 teams? I started a new career and when they change the cut scene to the garage, I thought one person looks awfully familiar lol
need to play it before i think of my own review
3:19 it doesn’t HAVE to be expensive. Just know what to shop for
5:50
There's the old xMattyG we know and love!
Can you race the Williams F1 car in the F2 races? Asking for a friend.
dpanch_89 😂😂😂
would be unfair, i would say in F3 lol
I have the exact same feeling. After playing for a few hours its extremely difficult to think that you're playing a new title. IMO it feels the exact same as F1 2018, but just a little graphics bump
I really don't think that being able to play as F2 is worth £50 when I already have 2018 which is much much much the same.
Delete all cams except the cockpit.
Honestly why people game being a passenger looking behind the driver is baffling.
Not what its about.
what they need to do for career mode, is let us enter as an 11th team. with custom livery, signing a driver that isn't currently in f1 to race alongside us etc
WHERE IS VR?!?!
In Dirt Rally 2.0
I can’t stop playing this game having never played any of the f1 games before.. and it being on PlayStation Now is dope
Wish they added more story to the game. Instead of just racing. Bring some flare and drama into the game to make it exciting!
I have to say I like it that they FINALLY implemented Driver Transfers (what Matt couldn't know as they Just Confirmed it Today)
Its just F1 2018 plus f2 and Some really minor changes so dont buy it
Honestly I have to agree with Matt, I've watched a few videos of the new game and I enjoy the aspect of F2 but the story should b developed further into F1, I on occasion play FIFA and it's story mode "The Journey" is kind of what I was hoping this year's career was going to be like, with cutscenes based on your performance and the way you act around the media, it's a great story mode and I wish that Codemasters can fully incorporate this into next year. Also for those who want a full season with F2 they should be given the option at the end of what I would say is the tutorial, with the option of being promoted or staying in F2
Credit where its due...they have done well in getting the game out earlier 10 weeks earlier! Which wasn't mentioned...just saying!
The massive thing you left out is the ai can Transfer wich is a total gamechanger since careermode doesnt get boring as fast
You were in F1 2018 too!!! There was a cutszene where you were in the Renault PitBox. I mean an actual character model of you.
Like who have recognized him!!
I guess he knows that
Thank you for the review.
I'm actually more excited to drive the F2 cars
I think I’m gonna get it, I haven’t gotten an f1 game for a long time, and this is a big improvement on the last one I got
