I have the UHD93sv which I use on my boat. This year I got the Summit Fishing shuttle & case. I've had the GT10 for years on my Echomap Chirp 73dv so that got moved to my new unit for ice fishing. Your video reminded me of the preset buttons, I totally forgot about those since summer. Thanks. Also, nice to know that the small ice fishing kit fits the 7" units. I had thought they did, but the Garmin website said I needed the large. Too expensive. Now I can use my old unit on the ice too.
I'm glad I reminded you of some great features! I wasn't sure about the small ice kit and my 75sv fitting either. I had a retailer tell me it wouldn't fit, but the Garmin website said it was compatible with the small kit, so I went with that. My guess is the retailer was trying to upsell me a more expensive item. I am definitely happy to report that the 75sv fits perfectly in the small kit and it zips up fine!
Thanks!! I'm sure you won't be dissapointed in it, if you picked it up recently, you're probably came with the GT-56 Transducer where I have he GT-54, so your imaging will be better even than mine! The trick is to get the settings dialed in with the down and side imaging!

I hope you look at old videos. I just picked up a small kit from a local store because they were selling it for 75. Then I found a 74cv for 350. Your video affirms they fit. But how is the mounting process?
The 7" units fit just fine in the small ice kit! It zips up and everything! You simply screw in the mou ting plate that came with your 75, (the circle part that the cradle fits over) then you use the single screw to attach the cradle to the mounting plate
You won't be disappointed! I love mine, it's the perfect size for a kayak! I think the 95 would be pretty good too, but I probably wouldn't go any larger than a 9" screen for the kayak, simply because we don't have the disposable space available to us like there is in many boats.
Just Liked and subscribed. I have been angsting over purchasing the Echomap UHD 75sv. Found a deal with Binnacle for the GT54 transducer version at $699.95 CDN. Had to get it! No better deal that I could find. I can't justify the extra $300.00 for the newer version with the GT56 on sale at Cabela's. I will also be buying the small portable kit as well. Great synopsis of the features of the ECHOMAP UHD 75 sv. It definitely helped me make my choice. Looking forward to future reviews and insights.

Thanks for the video. New to kayaking Just ordered my inflatable kayak Aquaglide BlackFoot Angler 130HB, NRS Raku PFD and Wilderness Systems Origin Angler paddle. Was looking at this unit and the 4 plus cv.
I have the Raku as well, it's by far my favorite for all types of uses. I wear it on my kayak, in my boat, and on the ice. I don't have any experience with the 4cv but it's going to be a better unit than my old Striker4, and that unit was great for the money, so either way you go, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed! The 75sv really is a sweet deal though, specially since so many places still have them on sale, or at least did until recently.
Have the ice fishing bundle on the way. The user interface is so much better on the Garmin units than the Hummingbird Helix series. I am pretty pumped to have this in my Arsenal. The Panoptix capability is another great feature I will upgrade into for next season. I like the gt-8 transducer for shallower early season use. Would definitely utilize the gt-10 in deeper basins however. Great overview. Made me feel like I made a great choice.
You made a great choice! I will say that the GT-8 Ducer has a cone angle of 16-24 degrees and it performs great at a lot of different depth ranges and bottom structures. It sits at 19 when it's on CHIRP Mode, but if I'm fishing a steep break, I'll drop it to the 16 degrees to get the best performance. Regardless of depth, if I'm on a big flat I'll swap back and forth between CHIRP 19 degrees and the 24 Degree setting to get the widest coverage.
@@jeffdicks I had both transducers out this weekend and mostly used the gt8 on my striker four to preserve the battery on my panoptix/gt10 set up. I definitely preferred it, until I was fishing 50 ft. and then it struggled
When you talk about having the ice fishing pack (which I assume is stationary fishing over a hole) and then you also talk about using it your boat, is if you have a standard transom mounted transceiver on your boat and then also use the unit with the ice fishing transceiver. Do you use the unit with 2 different transceivers in two different applications?
That is exactly correct. The ice fishing bundle came with the GT8 transducer specific designed for ice fishing, and the unit itself came with the GT54 transom mounted transducer. I use the GT54 in the spring, summer and fall on my boat and my kayak, and the GT8 in the winter for ice fishing.
I'm really glad you found it useful! Even though they have released the newer GT-56 transducer, you can still find great deals on bundles that include the older, but still really great, GT-54 ducer
They definately are, I've been using Garmin products for years and not just the marine/fishing ones either. They make great watches, and cycling electronics too (although I don't ride anymore)

Awesome video. Bought the uhd 73sv this past summer for $500 at cabelas for the boat. Best unit investment so far. Wasn't sure if I'd like garmin compared to my gen 3 hds units. Garmin has clearer 2d and down/side scan then lowrance imo. Just bought the bundle for ice for the sv, just waiting on ice!
Thanks so much!! I'm glad you like you 73sv and my video! Don't forget about the transducer adapter cable! Which one you need depends on which ice bundle you bought. If you bought the large, I think that one comes with the adapter cable, but if you bought the small one like I did that comes with the GT8HW transducer, you'll need to purchase the 4-12 pin cable seperately.

The only ice fishing packages available are CV models and nowhere can I any information on if the CV model will accept and function correctly with a SV transducer. I assume you just bought the SV model and the ice bundle? I was hoping to find a ice bundle then add the SV transducer when it gets closer to spring time. Thats exactly what I did. I bought the 75sv and the ice kit seperately. I believe the CV models are not compatible with the side imaging transducers, but the SV models are backwards compatible with transducers that don't have side imaging functionality.

There are a few differences between the G3 and G3 ULTRA map package, for Canada, I'm not really sure it's worth an upgrade to the ULTRA over the G3 as most of the beneficial data is only available for lakes in the U.S. You can see all the differences here: www.garmin.com/en-CA/MarineChart-MapPurchase/
Just wondering, did you buy the boat setup and then added the small ice kit? I just myself purchased the boat setup and looking to add the small ice kit....but does it come with the quick release bracket?? Or do I need to swap that from boat to ice kit too? Thanks
Yea same for me. During the winter time I'll just install the cradle onto the tray for ice fishing, but in the spring, summer and fall I'll be installing a rail Mount on the dash of my boat to make it easier to swap back and forth between the kayak and the boat
I've been on the ice with it for over 8 hours and still had juice left. But, I usually knock the brightness down to about 70-80% to save a bit of power since most of that time is spent in a hut out of direct sunlight. It's important to point out that that is also with the 250W GT-8 transducer. I don't know how using the included 500/600W GT-54 ducer would affect the battery life as I haven't used this unit on my kayak yet (it's still ice fishing season here in South Eastern Ontario). I think it's safe to assume that the battery would drain faster using the GT54-UHD transducer. You could easily upgrade the battery to a marine lithium 12v 10aH battery. Theres a Canadian company that makes really nice ones called Lynac Lithium. I haven't used them yet, but I have some trusted buddies that highly recommend them. Food for thought. I don't know anything about jetskiis, but I assume there's a decent sized cranking battery in them, you could also hardwire it to that.
i'm torn between the 75 an 95. Do you wish you would have gone with the larger screen? I'm using it in my small jon boat and ice fishing. Hoping to also purchase the Livescope before ice season starts. Great walkthrough video!!
I don't regret getting the 75sv, it's perfect for what I need. That said, if I could have gotten a 95 for the same price, I would have gone bigger. If your plan is to add Livescope, I DEFINATELY recommend the 95 at a minimum. The bigger screen size will really make a difference. In fact, if its within the budget, your even better off spending a bit more and getting one of the 10inch models. They're higher screen resolution over the 75 and 95 will pay dividends in your enjoyment of the unit and picture quality.
I'm sure you can, but I couldn't find the specific part on the Garmin website. Your best bet is to email them and ask about the power cable that comes with the small ice fishing bundle.
Well that just depends on how deep your pockets are, I suppose! Keep in mind, if your going to get an ice kit to go with it, not only is the 9" unit a little more expensive, you'll also need the large ice bundle as the 9" screen won't fit in the small bag, so that's an extra $200CAD or so over the small bundle, depending on where you get it. Either way you go, you'll love it, I'm sure. I definately do!
I’m thinking the 7 inch because of price it’s on sale now for $800 and the 9 inch is $1100 and I will never use it for ice fishing just on the boat! I had the helix 7 last year but sold my boat with it still attached lol
Yes I live in pickering.... I just picked up 2015 Yamaha 242 limited S and I fish 30% and cruise 70% so the most important thing for me is the navigation because I’m on a different lake every weekend starting in May and ending early October..... my daughter just loves fishing! It’s her favorite thing to do! Because of covid I haven’t even ice fish this season 😫 at least not yet!

It's worth giving them a call to see if they have any left at the Dec/Jan sale prices. There's also a place in Quebec, blyacht.com that had the 75sv on for $749 at the time of this writing.
I bought the Small Ice Fishing Kit to go with the 73 SV UHD....the female connector for the power cable on the back of the harness is a four-pin, but twice as large as the male connector supplied with the small Ice fishing kit. Did you find this to be the case with the 73 CV?
I have the 75sv model (the same as your 73sv, just with Canadian maps instead of u.s.) my kit came with the adaptor to fit my 75sv. Im willing to bet yours probably did as well. Check the contents of the box and all the little baggies that came with it

Oh boy, I've given you some false info. I was starting to second guess myself during this conversation so I went out to my boat and had a look at the cradle. You don't need a power adapter. The power connection to the cradle IS a 4 pin connector. I'm so sorry for giving you bad info on that. You will need the 4 to 12 pin adapter cable to make the GT8 ducer work, though

Oof, that's a tough choice. I know you would be happy with one of the Garmin ice bundles, but there's a lot of value in having an underwater camera. Since you have that AND flasher already, I don't know if it would be worth it. If selling the aquavu wasn't part of the deal, I'd say go for it. But I, personally, wouldn't trade a flasher and a decent camera for a digital graph. And that's coming from a Garmin guy through and through.

Question, I have the striker 5 ice fishing bundle, is this compatible with this unit to change over to the 75sv? Or am I looking to add all that you did to make this an ice fishing unit? If I'm not mistaken, the Striker 5 ice kit would have came with the GT8HW-IF transducer, so if you buy a 75sv you will need the 4-12 pin adapter cable to make it work. This is a link to the part on garmins website. buy.garmin.com/en-CA/CA/p/pn/010-12718-00 For power, I know when I bought the Ice kit on it's own, it came with an adapter cable for power as well. The power input for the 75sv is a 4 pin connector, but it's larger in diameter than the cable that connects to the battery. I just had a look at the cable to try and find a part number for you, but there's nothing on the adapter cable itselg and I couldn;t find much info on the 5cv online since it's a discontinued model. You're best bet is to send garmin an e-mail and ask them about that cable specifically. I might be able to tell by looking at it though. If you want, DM me a picture of the back of your Striker 5cv on instagram or facebook and I'll have a look.

@@wynnedel8097 it's absolutely an upgrade. For starters, your 75sv will come with either a Gt54 or GT56 transducer that gives it down and side imaging (the gt54 is older, but still great. A lot of sale packages right now are including the older model tramsducer). You'll also get garmins preloaded Canada LakeVu maps. It has garmins QuickDraw contours feature that let's you draw your own 1m contours on any body of water and also gives you access to the active captain community that let's you share your own drawn maps, and download Quickdraw data from other garmin users that have shared theirs. (There's more than you'd think). Overall it's an amazing unit for the price. The 95sv is the same as the 75, just a 9" screen instead of a 7, so you'll get all the same features.
Awesome video man, I’m looking to purchase the garmin echomap UHD 74cv ice bundle very soon. I love the mapping capabilities, Could I also create my own maps of new lakes while ice fishing too? I know humminbird has that capability I just didn’t know if the garmin did as well. Obviously in a boat would be much more accurate than the ice but still very cool if so
for ice fishing the 74cv bundle will fuction exactly the same as this unit, the only difference between the CV and the SV units is that the CV units come with a different transducer that doesn't have the side imaging capability. If you the 74CV Ice bundle I think it just comes with the ice transducer. Mapping out a lake while ice fishing isn't really feasible, however. I mean I guess you could turn on the quickdraw contours just long enough for it to record the depth of where your hole is and then shut it off again. but there wouldn't be any point in keeping it running, it would just use extra battery power for nothing.
The main functions like the sonar will work no problem, you just won't have the charts for Canadian lakes. That is the only difference between then 73sv and the 75sv. The 73sv comes preloaded with the U.S. LakeVu maps, the 75sv comes with Canadian LakeVu maps. You can always buy the map package you don't have and then have both on your unit anyways. You can do this right through your Active Captain app on your phone, then transfer them via the app to your unit.
Great video but just a heads up for anyone who is thinking about getting livescope and has one of these units the LVS12 transducer is only compatible with the ultra, and GPSMap units. UHD, and plus are not compatible with the LVS12 transducer.
Honestly, if I were to purchase live imaging, the LVS12 transducer wouldn't even be a consideration. I would rather have the PS22, which is compatible over the LVS12. Of course the LVS32 with the black box (also compatible, however not ideal with the 7") is the cream of the crop, but I would definitely want at least a 9" unit to go with it.
@@jeffdicks I hadn't realized my 7" would be too small for livescope. I ended up getting the 1st gen panoptix PS22 ice kit to go with my 73. Meh. I am trying to return and was going to go the way of Livescope but maybe not now.
@@jeffdicks I'm wondering if you have tried using the open water gt-54 transducer on the ice to help find structure etc. My Panoptix ps-22 isn't so good on bottom structure so I thought about securing the clearvu transducer onto a pole. Please tell me you've gotten a chance to get out this year!
Can I use the Minn Kota 4-12? I can't find a garmin in the time that I need it (less than 48 hours before my fishing tournament) but Cabelas has the Minn Kota one.
I csnt say for sure, but I would be VERY surprised to find that a competitors cable would be compatible with any garmin device. I would bet the answer is no...
@eppiclife if you're in Ontario you could try radioworld. If they have one, they may be able to overnight you one. It won't be cheap, but it's an option if they have them
I have the garmin 73 cv echomap uhd ice fishing bundle that I picked up this year have used it a few times It gets down to 11.5 volts and drops down to 8.5 really quick the the screen start flickering really fast so do u know why it does this I just have the regular ice transducer
They are 12v unts, so once you're voltage drops below 12v, you will start seeing performance issues and eventually the unit will just shut down. Realistically, once you're battery drops below 12v you should turn your unit off. The chances are slim, but operating it on such low voltages COULD damage the unit. There are a few ways you can extend your battery life though: - The biggest one is Screen brightness. even turning it down from 100% to 80% will drastically increase the run time of your unit on a 7ah battery. I usually have mine set to 50%-70% when ice fishing. Specially when you're in a hut, thats plenty of brightness to be more than readable. if I'm outside, I'll bump it up for 70%-80% depending on cloud cover. - Use an actual battery charger to charge the battery. Sometimes if the voltage of a battery drops too low, the included charger that would have come with your unit won't have enough output to bring it back up. You might have to use something like a car battery charger that you connect to the posts to get the battery up to a proper voltage. 12v batteries after a full charge should read between 12.6v - 12.8v. If you finished a charging cycle and the output is less than that, it could be a sign that you need a better charger to help recover the voltage. Once the voltage has recovered, you can go back to using the charger that came with it again. It's good for the battery to use a real battery charger every once in a while to charge it anyways. It will help extend the life of your battery. - Scroll speed: Regardless of whether you are ice fishing or using it on a boat, the GPS in the garmin units is pretty damn good, and the auto scroll speed function is more than adequet at adjusting based on vessel speed. I used to have mine on high or ultra so that I could get a reading closer to real time, but I noticed the battery life was draining a lot faster like that. Leave it on auto, even when ice fishing. I've switching to using a split screen where I have the traditional 2d screen on one side, and the flasher on the other. If you really like having the fullscreen 2d sonar on, you could enable the A-Scope, which will do the same thing, just in a verticale form instead of the radial image of the flasher screen - Wi-Fi: Our units can broadcast a Wi-Fi network so you can connect your phone to it via the Active Captain App. While this is great and offers some pretty cool functionality, if you are finding you're battery is dying quicker than normal, turn the wi-fi on your Garmin off. It doesn't use a ton, but it will help keep your unit alive a little longer so you can keep fishing those long days. - The battery itself: It could just be that your battery is dying. Depending on how often you use it, how you charge it, and a number of other factors, yours could just be going bad. I replaced the 7ah battery that came with my small ice fishing kit this winter. I use that battery all year round. During the ice season, obviously, but I also use it on my kayak with my 75sv in the summer time. So the battery sees a lot of charge/discharge cycles. It's just a factor of life for small SLA batteries like that. Fortunately, they are not very expensive so buying a new one won't break the bank. That said, if it's within your budget and you are going to look at a new battery, look at replacing it with a 9ah lithium battery. These small SLA batteries will generally tend to drop voltage at around 50%-60% battery capacity while lithium batteries will provide a constant voltage until they are nearly dead. So you'll get a LOT of extra run time out of a Lithium. They also weight half as much as the lead batteries, which is why you see bigger aH lithiums are the same physical size as smaller lead acid batteries. I hope that helps! Let me know if you try some of these tips and how they worked out!
hm.. thats a good question. There might be some kind of wall adapter you can get from Garmin, but you'd need the cradle which means you'd have to unmount the cradle every time you wanted to plug it in at home.. might just be easier to go out and sit in your boat on a nice day and plug in some routes
Yes, because the GT8-IF transducer uses a 4 Pin cable, but the transducer input on my 75sv is a 12 pin. The 75sv didn't come with the ice bundle, I bought it separately.
35sv? I don't think that's a model they produce, unless you meant 75 or 95. If you get the 95, you'll have to bump up to the large ice bundle as the screen is too big for the small kit bag. If that's the case, make sure you order the 8 to 12 pin adapter cable to go with it. The large kit comes with the GT10HN-IF transducer (again, the 95sv also has a 12 pin input, but the GT10 cable is 8 pin)
Ah right, that makes sense. Either way, the 73, as I mentioned in the video, is the same as my 75, just u.s. lakevu maps instead of Canada lakevu. It's an awesome unit and if you were to buy the unit separately from an ice bundle, you'll get thr newer, better GT56 transducer with it. Mine came with the older gt54 (still an awesome ducer though). I use it all year round on my boat, my kayak and on ice. The Quickdraw contours is a really useful feature, I've been using it to make my own maps of back lakes that have no mapping data, or data that may be a bit outdated to get ready for ice fishing.
You still need the black box. The lvs 32 and 34 will not work with any head unit without it. The black box is what handles the processing of the data and converts it into a 2d image that the graphs can display.
The only garmin live imaging transducer that does NOT need the black box is the old Panoptix PS22 transducer. As far as I know they have been discontinued and are difficult to find.
There is no way your 93 will fit in the small kit. My 75sv is just barely small enough to zip it up. The reason the large kit is more expensive is because I believe it comes with a better and/or bigger battery, and it comes with a different transducer as well. The small kit comes with the GT8HW-IF transducer, the large kit comes with the GT10HN-IF.
The SV stands for SideVu and CV stands for ClearVu. SideVu is what garmin calls their side imaging, ClearVu is down imaging The CV models only have down imaging, where as the SV models have side imaging and down imaging.
As far as I know, the answer is no. Since in inline charger was designed for a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery that was included with the small kit, it won't work effectively with a lithium battery. From what I've read, it WILL technically work, but a SLA charger will risk overcharging and damaging a lithium battery. For the price of lithium batteries, you're better off spending a few extra bucks to get the proper charger to protect your investment and get the longest possible life out of it

I hope you look at old videos. I just picked up a small kit from a local store because they were selling it for 75. Then I found a 74cv for 350. Your video affirms they fit. But how is the mounting process?
The 7" units fit just fine in the small ice kit! It zips up and everything! You simply screw in the mou ting plate that came with your 75, (the circle part that the cradle fits over) then you use the single screw to attach the cradle to the mounting plate

You won't be disappointed! I love mine, it's the perfect size for a kayak! I think the 95 would be pretty good too, but I probably wouldn't go any larger than a 9" screen for the kayak, simply because we don't have the disposable space available to us like there is in many boats.
Just Liked and subscribed. I have been angsting over purchasing the Echomap UHD 75sv. Found a deal with Binnacle for the GT54 transducer version at $699.95 CDN. Had to get it! No better deal that I could find. I can't justify the extra $300.00 for the newer version with the GT56 on sale at Cabela's. I will also be buying the small portable kit as well.

Was looking at this unit and the 4 plus cv.
I have the Raku as well, it's by far my favorite for all types of uses. I wear it on my kayak, in my boat, and on the ice. I don't have any experience with the 4cv but it's going to be a better unit than my old Striker4, and that unit was great for the money, so either way you go, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed! The 75sv really is a sweet deal though, specially since so many places still have them on sale, or at least did until recently.
Have the ice fishing bundle on the way. The user interface is so much better on the Garmin units than the Hummingbird Helix series. I am pretty pumped to have this in my Arsenal. The Panoptix capability is another great feature I will upgrade into for next season. I like the gt-8 transducer for shallower early season use. Would definitely utilize the gt-10 in deeper basins however. Great overview. Made me feel like I made a great choice.
You made a great choice! I will say that the GT-8 Ducer has a cone angle of 16-24 degrees and it performs great at a lot of different depth ranges and bottom structures. It sits at 19 when it's on CHIRP Mode, but if I'm fishing a steep break, I'll drop it to the 16 degrees to get the best performance. Regardless of depth, if I'm on a big flat I'll swap back and forth between CHIRP 19 degrees and the 24 Degree setting to get the widest coverage.
@@jeffdicks I had both transducers out this weekend and mostly used the gt8 on my striker four to preserve the battery on my panoptix/gt10 set up. I definitely preferred it, until I was fishing 50 ft. and then it struggled
When you talk about having the ice fishing pack (which I assume is stationary fishing over a hole) and then you also talk about using it your boat, is if you have a standard transom mounted transceiver on your boat and then also use the unit with the ice fishing transceiver. Do you use the unit with 2 different transceivers in two different applications?
That is exactly correct. The ice fishing bundle came with the GT8 transducer specific designed for ice fishing, and the unit itself came with the GT54 transom mounted transducer. I use the GT54 in the spring, summer and fall on my boat and my kayak, and the GT8 in the winter for ice fishing.

Awesome video. Bought the uhd 73sv this past summer for $500 at cabelas for the boat. Best unit investment so far. Wasn't sure if I'd like garmin compared to my gen 3 hds units. Garmin has clearer 2d and down/side scan then lowrance imo. Just bought the bundle for ice for the sv, just waiting on ice!

If you bought the large, I think that one comes with the adapter cable, but if you bought the small one like I did that comes with the GT8HW transducer, you'll need to purchase the 4-12 pin cable seperately.

The only ice fishing packages available are CV models and nowhere can I any information on if the CV model will accept and function correctly with a SV transducer. I assume you just bought the SV model and the ice bundle? I was hoping to find a ice bundle then add the SV transducer when it gets closer to spring time. Thats exactly what I did. I bought the 75sv and the ice kit seperately. I believe the CV models are not compatible with the side imaging transducers, but the SV models are backwards compatible with transducers that don't have side imaging functionality.

There are a few differences between the G3 and G3 ULTRA map package, for Canada, I'm not really sure it's worth an upgrade to the ULTRA over the G3 as most of the beneficial data is only available for lakes in the U.S.

I bought the unit and ice kit seperately. The quick release cradle came with the unit, not the ice kit.

Yea same for me. During the winter time I'll just install the cradle onto the tray for ice fishing, but in the spring, summer and fall I'll be installing a rail Mount on the dash of my boat to make it easier to swap back and forth between the kayak and the boat

How long would that battery last? Just thinking outside the box for on my jetski with the 75 model? no ice setup just the unit and transducer
I've been on the ice with it for over 8 hours and still had juice left. But, I usually knock the brightness down to about 70-80% to save a bit of power since most of that time is spent in a hut out of direct sunlight. It's important to point out that that is also with the 250W GT-8 transducer. I don't know how using the included 500/600W GT-54 ducer would affect the battery life as I haven't used this unit on my kayak yet (it's still ice fishing season here in South Eastern Ontario).
I think it's safe to assume that the battery would drain faster using the GT54-UHD transducer. You could easily upgrade the battery to a marine lithium 12v 10aH battery. Theres a Canadian company that makes really nice ones called Lynac Lithium. I haven't used them yet, but I have some trusted buddies that highly recommend them. Food for thought.
I don't know anything about jetskiis, but I assume there's a decent sized cranking battery in them, you could also hardwire it to that.

i'm torn between the 75 an 95. Do you wish you would have gone with the larger screen? I'm using it in my small jon boat and ice fishing. Hoping to also purchase the Livescope before ice season starts.

I don't regret getting the 75sv, it's perfect for what I need. That said, if I could have gotten a 95 for the same price, I would have gone bigger.
If your plan is to add Livescope, I DEFINATELY recommend the 95 at a minimum. The bigger screen size will really make a difference.
In fact, if its within the budget, your even better off spending a bit more and getting one of the 10inch models. They're higher screen resolution over the 75 and 95 will pay dividends in your enjoyment of the unit and picture quality.

I'm sure you can, but I couldn't find the specific part on the Garmin website. Your best bet is to email them and ask about the power cable that comes with the small ice fishing bundle.

Well that just depends on how deep your pockets are, I suppose! Keep in mind, if your going to get an ice kit to go with it, not only is the 9" unit a little more expensive, you'll also need the large ice bundle as the 9" screen won't fit in the small bag, so that's an extra $200CAD or so over the small bundle, depending on where you get it. Either way you go, you'll love it, I'm sure. I definately do!
I’m thinking the 7 inch because of price it’s on sale now for $800 and the 9 inch is $1100 and I will never use it for ice fishing just on the boat! I had the helix 7 last year but sold my boat with it still attached lol

I just picked up 2015 Yamaha 242 limited S and I fish 30% and cruise 70% so the most important thing for me is the navigation because I’m on a different lake every weekend starting in May and ending early October..... my daughter just loves fishing! It’s her favorite thing to do! Because of covid I haven’t even ice fish this season 😫 at least not yet!

I bought the Small Ice Fishing Kit to go with the 73 SV UHD....the female connector for the power cable on the back of the harness is a four-pin, but twice as large as the male connector supplied with the small Ice fishing kit. Did you find this to be the case with the 73 CV?
I have the 75sv model (the same as your 73sv, just with Canadian maps instead of u.s.) my kit came with the adaptor to fit my 75sv. Im willing to bet yours probably did as well. Check the contents of the box and all the little baggies that came with it

Oh boy, I've given you some false info. I was starting to second guess myself during this conversation so I went out to my boat and had a look at the cradle. You don't need a power adapter. The power connection to the cradle IS a 4 pin connector. I'm so sorry for giving you bad info on that. You will need the 4 to 12 pin adapter cable to make the GT8 ducer work, though

As long as it's a 12v setup, yes.

Oof, that's a tough choice. I know you would be happy with one of the Garmin ice bundles, but there's a lot of value in having an underwater camera. Since you have that AND flasher already, I don't know if it would be worth it. If selling the aquavu wasn't part of the deal, I'd say go for it. But I, personally, wouldn't trade a flasher and a decent camera for a digital graph. And that's coming from a Garmin guy through and through.

If I'm not mistaken, the Striker 5 ice kit would have came with the GT8HW-IF transducer, so if you buy a 75sv you will need the 4-12 pin adapter cable to make it work. This is a link to the part on garmins website.

For power, I know when I bought the Ice kit on it's own, it came with an adapter cable for power as well. The power input for the 75sv is a 4 pin connector, but it's larger in diameter than the cable that connects to the battery. I just had a look at the cable to try and find a part number for you, but there's nothing on the adapter cable itselg and I couldn;t find much info on the 5cv online since it's a discontinued model. You're best bet is to send garmin an e-mail and ask them about that cable specifically. I might be able to tell by looking at it though. If you want, DM me a picture of the back of your Striker 5cv on instagram or facebook and I'll have a look.

@@wynnedel8097 it's absolutely an upgrade. For starters, your 75sv will come with either a Gt54 or GT56 transducer that gives it down and side imaging (the gt54 is older, but still great. A lot of sale packages right now are including the older model tramsducer). You'll also get garmins preloaded Canada LakeVu maps. It has garmins QuickDraw contours feature that let's you draw your own 1m contours on any body of water and also gives you access to the active captain community that let's you share your own drawn maps, and download Quickdraw data from other garmin users that have shared theirs. (There's more than you'd think). Overall it's an amazing unit for the price. The 95sv is the same as the 75, just a 9" screen instead of a 7, so you'll get all the same features.

Awesome video man, I’m looking to purchase the garmin echomap UHD 74cv ice bundle very soon. I love the mapping capabilities, Could I also create my own maps of new lakes while ice fishing too? I know humminbird has that capability I just didn’t know if the garmin did as well. Obviously in a boat would be much more accurate than the ice but still very cool if so
for ice fishing the 74cv bundle will fuction exactly the same as this unit, the only difference between the CV and the SV units is that the CV units come with a different transducer that doesn't have the side imaging capability. If you the 74CV Ice bundle I think it just comes with the ice transducer. Mapping out a lake while ice fishing isn't really feasible, however. I mean I guess you could turn on the quickdraw contours just long enough for it to record the depth of where your hole is and then shut it off again. but there wouldn't be any point in keeping it running, it would just use extra battery power for nothing.
Also will the 73sv work in Canada waters?
The main functions like the sonar will work no problem, you just won't have the charts for Canadian lakes. That is the only difference between then 73sv and the 75sv. The 73sv comes preloaded with the U.S. LakeVu maps, the 75sv comes with Canadian LakeVu maps. You can always buy the map package you don't have and then have both on your unit anyways. You can do this right through your Active Captain app on your phone, then transfer them via the app to your unit.

Great video but just a heads up for anyone who is thinking about getting livescope and has one of these units the LVS12 transducer is only compatible with the ultra, and GPSMap units. UHD, and plus are not compatible with the LVS12 transducer.
Honestly, if I were to purchase live imaging, the LVS12 transducer wouldn't even be a consideration. I would rather have the PS22, which is compatible over the LVS12. Of course the LVS32 with the black box (also compatible, however not ideal with the 7") is the cream of the crop, but I would definitely want at least a 9" unit to go with it.

@@jeffdicks I hadn't realized my 7" would be too small for livescope. I ended up getting the 1st gen panoptix PS22 ice kit to go with my 73. Meh. I am trying to return and was going to go the way of Livescope but maybe not now.
@@wubbalubbadubx2 honestly, live imaging of either kind, the PS22 or the LVS32, on a 7" screen is still better than no live imaging.

The ice transducers are not capable of side view and clear view, so they are not options you can select with that type of transducer plugged in.

Can I use the Minn Kota 4-12? I can't find a garmin in the time that I need it (less than 48 hours before my fishing tournament) but Cabelas has the Minn Kota one.
I csnt say for sure, but I would be VERY surprised to find that a competitors cable would be compatible with any garmin device. I would bet the answer is no...

I have the garmin 73 cv echomap uhd ice fishing bundle that I picked up this year have used it a few times It gets down to 11.5 volts and drops down to 8.5 really quick the the screen start flickering really fast so do u know why it does this I just have the regular ice transducer
They are 12v unts, so once you're voltage drops below 12v, you will start seeing performance issues and eventually the unit will just shut down. Realistically, once you're battery drops below 12v you should turn your unit off. The chances are slim, but operating it on such low voltages COULD damage the unit.
There are a few ways you can extend your battery life though:
- The biggest one is Screen brightness. even turning it down from 100% to 80% will drastically increase the run time of your unit on a 7ah battery. I usually have mine set to 50%-70% when ice fishing. Specially when you're in a hut, thats plenty of brightness to be more than readable. if I'm outside, I'll bump it up for 70%-80% depending on cloud cover.
- Use an actual battery charger to charge the battery. Sometimes if the voltage of a battery drops too low, the included charger that would have come with your unit won't have enough output to bring it back up. You might have to use something like a car battery charger that you connect to the posts to get the battery up to a proper voltage. 12v batteries after a full charge should read between 12.6v - 12.8v. If you finished a charging cycle and the output is less than that, it could be a sign that you need a better charger to help recover the voltage. Once the voltage has recovered, you can go back to using the charger that came with it again. It's good for the battery to use a real battery charger every once in a while to charge it anyways. It will help extend the life of your battery.
- Scroll speed: Regardless of whether you are ice fishing or using it on a boat, the GPS in the garmin units is pretty damn good, and the auto scroll speed function is more than adequet at adjusting based on vessel speed. I used to have mine on high or ultra so that I could get a reading closer to real time, but I noticed the battery life was draining a lot faster like that. Leave it on auto, even when ice fishing. I've switching to using a split screen where I have the traditional 2d screen on one side, and the flasher on the other. If you really like having the fullscreen 2d sonar on, you could enable the A-Scope, which will do the same thing, just in a verticale form instead of the radial image of the flasher screen
- Wi-Fi: Our units can broadcast a Wi-Fi network so you can connect your phone to it via the Active Captain App. While this is great and offers some pretty cool functionality, if you are finding you're battery is dying quicker than normal, turn the wi-fi on your Garmin off. It doesn't use a ton, but it will help keep your unit alive a little longer so you can keep fishing those long days.
- The battery itself: It could just be that your battery is dying. Depending on how often you use it, how you charge it, and a number of other factors, yours could just be going bad. I replaced the 7ah battery that came with my small ice fishing kit this winter. I use that battery all year round. During the ice season, obviously, but I also use it on my kayak with my 75sv in the summer time. So the battery sees a lot of charge/discharge cycles. It's just a factor of life for small SLA batteries like that. Fortunately, they are not very expensive so buying a new one won't break the bank. That said, if it's within your budget and you are going to look at a new battery, look at replacing it with a 9ah lithium battery. These small SLA batteries will generally tend to drop voltage at around 50%-60% battery capacity while lithium batteries will provide a constant voltage until they are nearly dead. So you'll get a LOT of extra run time out of a Lithium. They also weight half as much as the lead batteries, which is why you see bigger aH lithiums are the same physical size as smaller lead acid batteries.

Can it run at home, not powered to a battery, so can set routes etc?
hm.. thats a good question. There might be some kind of wall adapter you can get from Garmin, but you'd need the cradle which means you'd have to unmount the cradle every time you wanted to plug it in at home.. might just be easier to go out and sit in your boat on a nice day and plug in some routes

Yes, because the GT8-IF transducer uses a 4 Pin cable, but the transducer input on my 75sv is a 12 pin. The 75sv didn't come with the ice bundle, I bought it separately.

35sv? I don't think that's a model they produce, unless you meant 75 or 95. If you get the 95, you'll have to bump up to the large ice bundle as the screen is too big for the small kit bag. If that's the case, make sure you order the 8 to 12 pin adapter cable to go with it. The large kit comes with the GT10HN-IF transducer (again, the 95sv also has a 12 pin input, but the GT10 cable is 8 pin)

Ah right, that makes sense. Either way, the 73, as I mentioned in the video, is the same as my 75, just u.s. lakevu maps instead of Canada lakevu.
It's an awesome unit and if you were to buy the unit separately from an ice bundle, you'll get thr newer, better GT56 transducer with it. Mine came with the older gt54 (still an awesome ducer though). I use it all year round on my boat, my kayak and on ice. The Quickdraw contours is a really useful feature, I've been using it to make my own maps of back lakes that have no mapping data, or data that may be a bit outdated to get ready for ice fishing.
So you can put live scoop LS34 plus and don't need the black box?
You still need the black box. The lvs 32 and 34 will not work with any head unit without it. The black box is what handles the processing of the data and converts it into a 2d image that the graphs can display.
The only garmin live imaging transducer that does NOT need the black box is the old Panoptix PS22 transducer. As far as I know they have been discontinued and are difficult to find.

There is no way your 93 will fit in the small kit. My 75sv is just barely small enough to zip it up.
The reason the large kit is more expensive is because I believe it comes with a better and/or bigger battery, and it comes with a different transducer as well. The small kit comes with the GT8HW-IF transducer, the large kit comes with the GT10HN-IF.
What attachments do I need for clear vu?
It's difficult to answer that question without a bit more information. Have you purchased a unit or have a particular one in mind?
Whats the difference between SV and CV?
The SV stands for SideVu and CV stands for ClearVu. SideVu is what garmin calls their side imaging, ClearVu is down imaging
The CV models only have down imaging, where as the SV models have side imaging and down imaging.
Does anyone here know if you could replace the battery with a lithium one and still use the in-line charger for it?
As far as I know, the answer is no. Since in inline charger was designed for a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery that was included with the small kit, it won't work effectively with a lithium battery. From what I've read, it WILL technically work, but a SLA charger will risk overcharging and damaging a lithium battery. For the price of lithium batteries, you're better off spending a few extra bucks to get the proper charger to protect your investment and get the longest possible life out of it
