OMG! This video is excellent! I know absolutely nothing about tools. But I’m sick of needing a man to cut my simple craft needs. I was looking at circular saws and jig saws on Marketplace. But they usually have no instructions and no/few blades. Watching your video really soothed my nervousness. I feel much more confident. Your presentation skills are excellent and the close ups of the parts of the drill are excellent. Thx so much!
I am so grateful because TH-cam recommended me this video. I'm about to start a woodworking project & you're being helpful through all of the information. Thank you sir!

I have never used circular saws, jigsaws, or even wood work in my life, but these type of videos are the best tutorials with the precise tips and information I needed. Thank you for your help and all of your videos!
I saw this tip on another channel. If you don't have the immediate want or capabilities to cut the pilot hole prior to cutting the circle as shown in the video it's completely possible to plunge cut with a jigsaw. Simply start the saw with the shoe up on the front edge and the blade above the wood and then slowly plunge the blade into the surface keeping a firm grip, while keeping the front of the shoe steady against the wood. I tried it and it works great.
Just got myself a nifty lil' Makita jigsaw. Approaching 40 and am discovering a dormant passion for tools, woodworking.. your channel is one of my favourite stops for all things tool related and I just love Australians.. if you guys didn't exist, someone would have to invent you 😁. Thanks a bunch for all the videos.. a warm hello from Croatia (and former South African dweller)

I finally decided I want to start some very basic woodworking and I only have access to a jigsaw. This video explained so much that I had no idea about. I really like your style of teaching, and as an American love the accent. Thanks!
I was considering getting an inexpensive jigsaw to do a specific DIY project involving scrolling cuts, and your video showed up when I searched for the brand I ended up getting. It was the PERFECT intro for someone who has used various power tools, but is a noob at this specific one. The fact that it cuts at 45 degree angles increases the versatility of it. Thank you so much! And yes - full-sized circular saws are scary! I bought a mini one and it was perfect for the job, but it's still really noisy!
Great tips as ever. I bought a jigsaw about five years ago. I can’t believe how I did without one. My circular saw gets the occasional outing but the jigsaw gets used on most woodworking jobs. When I get roped into jobs for the family at their house, a jigsaw and the wheelie bin is a good combination...
Very nice tutorial, knackers! Pro tip from the construction yard: If you don't have an inverted blade but you need your cut to be 100% clean, hold your machine upside down in a vice, switch and lock it on, and use the base plate as a sawing table. This way, your blade will pull into your visible surface. This is not safe, not good for the machine. But it'll get the job done.
Thanks for this! As an Australian I struggle to find DIY vids on TH-cam that aren’t American and using different terminology and of course the dreaded imperial system... appreciate your channel!
Bloody Well Right Jane!!!! That 'American terminology' is SO dreadful. Have a spot of tea dear and a crumpet straight away at the outback. Hip Hip, cheerio, God save the Queen. Hope you enjoyed a little British humor. You probably need to take a nap now straight away after all that excitement watching a man with his jig saw. Hello my friend, Safety first in woodworking. Thank you for this great information. Useful and good information about the use of decoupage. Thanks for sharing. Stay healthy and safe. Big greetings. Best regards, Mehmet...
thanks for this, it's been really helpful. There's enough of the right kind of detailed explanation on the how to and the why and then it's backed up with a demo. Off to buy my jigsaw and give a few little projects a go. I still can't drill a hole to hang a picture in a brick wall however, I don't know why...
No worries at all Kerry and good luck with the jigsaw 👍 To hang that picture, drill a 6mm hole with a masonry drill bit with your drill on the hammer setting and then simply insert a 6mm plastic wall plug that you screw the wall fixture into. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
If you mark the center of your circle, you can put a screw into it. Tie a piece of twine to it and the other end to your jigsaw. Obviously, you have to adjust the length to get your blade along the edge of your circle but it is pretty helpful in keeping you from straying too far off course. I do this all the time for subwoofer cutouts on enclosures.
Love, love, love your presentation. you are funny sometimes and more importantly your demo and descriptions are so clear. Thank you. I’ve learned so much from your videos.
Hello, new subscriber here. Just want to say thank you for this informational tutorial. I am a newbie to using power tools, and doing "DIY" woodworking projects. Started out using cardboard for my personal projects but, have developed a curiosity for woodworking. Been wondering how a jigsaw works and now I know because, of this video. I made my first (cable spool) foot ottoman a few weeks ago. My daughter was so impressed she has requested a coffee table ottoman and, 2 smaller sitting ottomans for her home. My children have always been my greatest incouragers when it comes to learning new things. With the right supplies I have confidence I will fulfill her wishes. However, I need to get a jigsaw...so your tips about blades helped to encourage me to move forward with my decisions. 😏😊💝
Awesome! Glad you found the vid useful Mandy and good luck with that new jigsaw 👍😁 Looks like you will have your full with all those new projects...Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄

Thank you for making this video! I am pretty much a beginner to power tools and I wanted to do some research before just going out and buying my first jig saw. So far it's looking to be about the same skill level as a sewing machine. Definitely not scary anymore.
Thank you very much for your video, even the jigsaw was a bit intimidating at first but with your video it was very clear how to use it and I had no troubles cutting some nice big wooden panels!

@@diyforknuckleheads could you use the jigsaw for the nails on pallets you reckon ? Cheap affordable rather than the big guns with a metal cutting blade
Excellent video, especially the explanation of the jigsaw blade cutting on the up-stroke, and the fact that a reverse-blade (for down-stroke cutting) could cause the jigsaw to bounce. Very useful info, thanks.
Great video for newbies. My one and only suggestion is never pull out the saw from the wood and place it by your side (as you did), until the blade comes to a complete stop.
I am going to a jigsaw lesson tomorrow with Carlos but the one I used was very different. It has no trigger, it has an on/off button and unlock/lock button.
My jigsaw's blade holder broke for the second time two days ago. I had replaced the part a few years ago and I hardly ever use it. Tuesday was trash day so in the trash, it went.
@@danwhitaker9168 Did you throw your jigsaw in the trash or just the holder? I know I’ve had days when I wanted to chuck the whole thing in the trash too... but haven’t yet.
I'm now tuning in almost exclusively for the jokes! :) As a new woodworker this year, these videos that go over the basics are awesome, but the jokes....they put these videos over the top for me!!!
Thank you I 'm trying to figure out a mounting situation so as not to have the wood bouncing plus I don't want to use my hand to hold it in place. I don't have a table to cut the wood with the jigsaw
Hello shane. Hope you are well. Thanks. That was a Big help. Didn't know about the scrollsaw blades or the orbital action thing. My jigsaw is my dads old one and you have to loosen 2 screws to change the blade. Will bear your advice in mind when i finally upgrade it 👍🇬🇧
This is an excellent video - I once tried using my late Dad's Jigsaw that he have must have bought in the 1970's. Needless to say I hated it and made a bit of a mess and the saw was a bit noisy and jumpy. Your video has helped me enormously and I am going to buy something more up to date using the pointers you have indicated. Thank you very much!
Thank you for the video. I'm buying my first power tool for cutting and it's going to be a jigsaw. Yes, I find a circular saw scary and am not getting one (yet) even though that's what I see professional carpenters using. For DIYer like me, this will do...for now.
I do have a circular saw, but I'll still grab the jigsaw when I only need to make a short straight cut, because it is lighter and easier to control. For a long straight cut, then definitely the circular saw.
@@loganmedia4401 I agree. A circular saw makes more sense for long straight cuts. Especially if you are doing it often. I got my jigsaw and it's slow. Especially on hardwood. I probably need a different type of blade. But given that I only use it occasionally, I'm fine with it. Oh, and yeah, it makes it easy to cut curves in plywood. Just did some yesterday.
G'day uncle K . Another blinding video full of useful tips and guides . For many of us 2020 has been a horrendous year with one thing and another. Thank you for explaining! I have had one for years and finally replaced my forever old one that finally gave up. Explaining the blades was super helpful. It seems mine tend to “wonder” off course. I think I’m too impatient. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thanks Sheri 👍 When your blade wanders off course, make sure the machine is at full speed but slow down your feed which is how fast you push the machine. Let it do all the work for you. Your job is just to guide it which does take a little practice 😁👍 Thanks for watching and may you and the family have a safe and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄

Just got this video recommended by TH-cam, and I'm so glad I watched it! As a super newbie in woodworking I loved the video, the explanations, the information and the jokes. I actually have an old borrowed jigsaw as my only power tool and Im having trouble making it cut through a 2 inch thick wood, gonna see if there's something from this video I can apply to get the job finally done! Happily subscribed and looking forward to checking out your other videos :))
Makita jigsaws are great to use, especially the barrel bodied ones. Their blower function I couldn't do without as it lets you see the cut line clearly unlike others. Dust collection is rubbish on most jigsaws though. You have to go to festool for better dust collection if you need it. Good vid, as a pro user even I learned something.
Thanks Paul...appreciate the feedback mate and l agree re the dust collection...a token gesture for the most part and l really don't know anyone who bothers with it. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
Hi! I'm from Philippines! You got my like and you got my subscribe! This video removed my fear in using jigsaw. I'm gonna buy my first jigsaw because of this video.
Great video, Knackers. I needed it pointing out to me recently that you need to make sure you've got the orbital action set to 0 for intricate work with one of those scroll blades. You lose a lot of the effect of the thin blade if it's orbiting all over the place. Time to dust off my jig-saw - probably the second tool I ever bought.. New blades too I reckon :)

Too good, too easy Uncle Knackers! Jigsaw was my first power tool. Complete "how to" in this video. Have a Merry Christmas and an awesome New Year!
Thanks Juliet! Appreciate the comment and Merry Christmas to you and your family as well 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
Excellent video, especially the explanation of the jigsaw blade cutting on the up-stroke, and the fact that a reverse-blade (for down-stroke cutting) could cause the jigsaw to bounce. Very useful info, thanks.
Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
The straight line part hit home. The kitchen kick board i cut like a rollercoaster has scarred me for life.
😂😂
Great video for newbies. My one and only suggestion is never pull out the saw from the wood and place it by your side (as you did), until the blade comes to a complete stop.
👍👍
I am going to a jigsaw lesson tomorrow with Carlos but the one I used was very different. It has no trigger, it has an on/off button and unlock/lock button.
The jigsaw has never been my favorite tool, but after today’s video, I think I may have blow the dust off it, and ‘give it another go!’
Give it a go Shawn....just need a little patience mate👍 Thanks for watching and may you and the fam have a safe and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
@@cuwest1 The entire jigsaw. it was close to 25 years old.
@@danwhitaker9168 ya, probably time for a new one then.
I'm now tuning in almost exclusively for the jokes! :) As a new woodworker this year, these videos that go over the basics are awesome, but the jokes....they put these videos over the top for me!!!
😂....Thanks Donny....glad you like 'em mate 👍 Really appreciate the feedback mate 👍🇦🇺😁
Hi. Brilliant vids. Glad a found your channel. Excellent stuff. Best I've seen. 🇬🇧👍👌😊
Awesome! Welcome aboard Peter and thanks for watching.....glad you like the videos and Happy New Year 👍👍👍😁🇦🇺
Very well done video.Thank you very much!
Thanks Josh! Appreciate you taking the time to watch mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Just got my cute little compact jigsaw for wood projects! Thank you so much for helpful tips! Somewhat intimidated by it all. 😊
👍....You'll be fine Ardith....just take you're time 👍😁 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Maaate!!! Good on ya! I knew all these tips, but reminders never go astray!
Great tip knackeeEeeEEEers!
Thanks Isa 👍👍 Appreciate you watching mate and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
Thank you I 'm trying to figure out a mounting situation so as not to have the wood bouncing plus I don't want to use my hand to hold it in place. I don't have a table to cut the wood with the jigsaw
Brand new to a jigsaw and you cut a blinding video, made a Pom smile on a Sunday morning. Gods on ya pal
👍😁...Thanks Admaztaz!
Thank you for this video. I feel a bit more confident about choosing and using a jig saw now.
No worries at all Violet......glad you found the video useful 👍😁🇦🇺
Hello shane. Hope you are well. Thanks. That was a Big help. Didn't know about the scrollsaw blades or the orbital action thing. My jigsaw is my dads old one and you have to loosen 2 screws to change the blade. Will bear your advice in mind when i finally upgrade it 👍🇬🇧
Awesome! Glad you found the video useful N.P and good luck with your new purchase if you happen to go down that track. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
Fantastic Malcolm! You'll love the new machine mate....thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Thank you for the video. I'm buying my first power tool for cutting and it's going to be a jigsaw. Yes, I find a circular saw scary and am not getting one (yet) even though that's what I see professional carpenters using. For DIYer like me, this will do...for now.
Good luck with it! The jigsaw is a very handy tool 👍😁🇦🇺
Thank you uncle K for giving us a sanctuary away from it all . A special Christmas greeting to you and your family at this yuletide time of year . Hope 2021 is better for us all mate . Stay happy , stay safe and above all stay healthy. Regards Bill in uk
You're a champ Bill 👍 Thanks so much for that feedback and for your support throughout the year....really appreciate it and Merry Christmas to you and the family 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
Thank you so much for explaining the dreaded jigsaw! Excellent explanation!
Thanks Chris 👍...Glad l could throw some light on it for you 😁🇦🇺😁👍
I've had that straight edge guide since I can remember and I always wondered what it was for, and now I know! Subscribed and clicked the 🔔! Thanks!
👍😁....Thanks for the Sub Jarred! Glad you found the vid useful mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Dad joke: What's the best saw to get into a romantic relationship with? A reciprocating saw.
😂😂....I'm using that one Roland 👍😁
You did not 😂😂😂
Really helpful and useful ......... thanks very much. I've been a bit 'scared' of using mine. Same as another person who commented, I bought it ages ago and only had it out of the box once - on the day that I bought it. Now I'm actually going to use it to get the job done that I've been putting off.👍
No worries at all Deb! Good luck with it 👍😁🇦🇺
Sir, I just wanted to say that your video was delightful. Greetings from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

You're excellent at explaining things. Good job 💪
Thanks R! Appreciate the feedback mate 👍😁🇦🇺
I LOVE your videos! Thanks for the help!
Happy to help Toby! Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Excellent tutorial. Respect from Italy 🇮🇹
Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you Esa! Appreciate the Sub mate 👍😁🇦🇺
I'm so glad I watched your video. I now understand my jigsaw. 😊

A dozen are on their way Kerri 😂 Thanks for watching this year.....your support is really appreciated and may you and the family have a safe and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄

Thank you uncle knackers, I’m now going to have a new found appreciation for the finer intricacies of my jigsaw! 👍 Can you do the same for the angle grinder as I’m scared of that power tool!?
😂.....the angle grinder????....na you're on your own there Brend 😂 Thanks for watching mate and may you and yours have a safe and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
You and your family have a happy holiday season. Thanks for all the tips and projects throughout the year

My pleasure Launa 👍 Glad you found the vid useful 👍😁🇦🇺
Thank you so much. I have a hard time with my jig saw. I just bought the Mikita.
Hi BJ 👍 Glad you found the video useful 😁 Merry Christmas to you and your family as well 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
You sold me with the element hat! Excellent video thank you!
Haha...thanks mate! Glad you liked the vid 👍😁🇦🇺
Awesome! Welcome aboard Manceroy 👍😁 Hope you can stick around for many more videos to come mate 👍😁🇦🇺
You rock! Thanks heaps for this, I’m heading to Bunnings to get myself a Jigsaw now 👌
No worries Shelley 👍 Good luck with it 👍😁🇦🇺
Makita jigsaws are great to use, especially the barrel bodied ones.
Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
This is an excellent vide, everything about it so helpful and you are so specific wich it help us ''newbies''. thank you
My pleasure Daisy! Glad you found it useful 👍😁🇦🇺
Hi! I'm from Philippines! You got my like and you got my subscribe! This video removed my fear in using jigsaw. I'm gonna buy my first jigsaw because of this video.
Awesome! Glad to hear it Michael👍👍 I'm sure you will handle it fine. Thanks for watching and for the Sub!....much appreciated mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Great video mate !!! So helpful, keen to learn more from you !!!
Thanks Danny....hope you can stick around for more to come 👍😁🇦🇺
Great video, Knackers.
Yeah spot on Daniel and thanks for Pointing that out. 👍👍 Thanks for watching mate and Merry Christmas to you and the family 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
