Thank you so much Marie! ❤️ It was pretty special getting to make Peter's childhood dream come true! Glad we could share the feels with everyone too 🥰 It was a very rural village but with friendly locals that would just come chit chat with us and the place had some breathtaking views! Peter absolutely loved that "Lao Jia" (old home). He always thinks he's really from that era 😂 and thank you for your congrats too!! 😁 We honestly wouldn't have reached that milestone without everyone's support and yours included of course! 🙂❤️❤️ Blessings on blessings to you too 🙌🌾🙂❤️
You're totally right this is a journey that we'll always remember. Feels amazing to tick off a bunch of things from my life bucket list 😁🥂 the bucket list has a lotta thing on it though 😂🤠

As a fellow Asian that grew up in a Western country this truly pulls at my heart strings. I also recently chose to try get back to my Asian roots and a part of me truly feels at home. Anyhow great video guys and keep it up!!!
Hi Michael 😁👋 Thank you for your kind words! Reading comments like yours brings a smile to our faces. As Asians that grew up in NZ since we were little we love exploring Asia in particular. Aside from the amazing food it somewhat feels like a glimpse into the possibilities of what our lives might've been too which is interesting. Also learning about the history and culture is really cool. Thanks for checking out our videos! Hope you enjoy following us along on our travels and happy new year btw! 👍✌
That feeling of visiting your childhood dream destination, and realizing that dream now! ⭐😄 We're super happy for you Peter! Love the wooden classic style of the Airbnb, and the courtyard is beautiful! Such a calm place to live in🌳🎋 Breakfast is so simple, yet looks so delicious, especially that baozi! The kids came following to learn from the shaolin master from NZ!! Was that Peter doing some farming at the end? 😋 Totally love the simple lifestyle of the locals, looks like a really lovely place to visit, Guilin is definitely going into our bucket list! Great episode Peter and Yen! ❤️
Thank you guys! 🥰 It's a really rural location that took us ages to get to but it was a very simple and peaceful way of life which was nice (just not the giant spiders hahah 😂). Definitely awesome we got to make Peter's childhood dream come true though 🙂👍 Even really enjoyed the vegetarian meals each day too. Hahah those kids were cute! Really liked Peter and visiting us after school and on the weekend too lol 😁 Haha nah not Peter farming at the end.. just a villager we saw during one of our walks around while the sun was setting 🙂🌾 thought it was a nice shot! ❤️
I (Maria) have been watching this video with my mouth wide open... soooo wonderful. we are happy that you made your dream come true Peter, and yes Yen, being able to go back and get close to your roots is a priceless moment. Happy you guys are living this life
Hey Maria glad you enjoyed this one 😊 it's a very special video to me for this exact reason. I've looked back on the video many times now and thought wow what an amazing time. Yen n I are really blessed to be living the life we have. Have a great weekend to you both ❤

Wow I love that style of those old paintings like u are flying above the land in an o.g. drone shot. So cool that u got to go to see this place. This is like a movie set. Amazing guys!!
Hey guys 😁👋 yeah this was a pretty special place for me especially. Everything was just perfect 😊 I've rewatched this video myself so many times and it still brings back the feels Haha
The feel of this place has the history of imperial times... Nothing has change the culture.. The history... Well besides the inside kitchen but the natureness is all still there!! Loving the room
Yea it was built in the Qing dynasty and the owners fell in the love with the place so renovated it and turned it into a guest house for people to stay at and experience China's countryside too. Super handy it has a kitchen, kitted with washer as drying machines as well as a shower and seated toilet lol. Made it a more comfortable stay for sure than back in the day 👍🙂 Def had some epic mountain and river views too!
Thank you so much for sharing this video! Love the house, the surroundings and the buggy ride, they are so cool! This is the kind of life I want to have when I am retire! :)
Awesome video! I'm just about to travel from Harbin in the North East of China down to Hanoi by train. I'll be stopping by in Guilin/Guangxi province area. I can't wait after seeing this video!
Oh wow that's some epic travel ahead of you! The high speed trains have some amazing sceneries 😍 Haven't been to Harbin but Hanoi and Guilin are awesome places. Have a fantastic time and safe travels! 🙂🙌❤️
Wow 9 years! You must really love it there 🙂👍 Can you speak or read/write any Chinese too? Peter was born in Shanghai so we made a few videos from there this trip too (he's actually in the middle of editing them right now!). Xi'an, Hangzhou and Beijing are pretty awesome places too if you get a chance to visit as well 🙂👍
@@PeterandYen I can speak decent Chinese and read a bit. Especially menus 😁 marriage kept me here until March 2019 but we decided to leave and take a bit of a travel break. That's how i found your videos. We're looking at doing travel vlogs in English and Chinese/foreign and Chinese perspective.
Thanks for sharing such a great video. It remains me my real LaoJia in shoutheast China nearby the sea. It was so easy to leave ones hometown, but a hundred thousand times difficult to come back and live in again.
I love the idea of going back into the past and being so close to nature so this is something I'd definitely want to experience. That breakfast looks so delicious, homemade bao definitely looks different than what I can find here. Exercising in that setting must be lovely. Thank you for sharing your dream and journey with such beautiful shots.
Thank you for watching this experience is one of my most treasured memories. Never been able to find a bao quite like this again those were the kind you used to get in China 30 years ago 😁
wow Peter and Yen, we are just in minute 3 and we are loving this video ...the transportation to get there is creating so much expectation... we are so intrigued
Wow your accommodations do look so old traditional from the outside and in. Such a beautiful area and the scenery, breath taking... Dishes look yummy as and the place Ashley and I could travel to without our kids. Neighbor kids too cute. You guys can tick off this trip...
Recon you guys would have an amazing time here fam. Definitely a very different kind of adventure. Super beautiful and nice to escape the city for a bit. Feels good being able to tick off a life bucket list 😊👍
O man that bao is amazing. I ordered 5 extras every couple of days so I could snack. Thought I'd lose weight being on a vegetarian diet but pretty sure i gained weight 😂😂😂
This is one of a kind experience guys, love it 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing with us! I (Ony) and my family have been to Guilin before but with a group tour. We took the ferry or boat and sailed on the river. It was a long time ago but the memory is still here, still remember how beautiful those little mountains are in Guilin 😍 Looks something from a postcard! The airbnb looks amazing too, very nice breakky! Love this video guys 👏
Thank you Ony glad you enjoyed the video 😊✌ if you went to guilin many years ago it must have been really awesome cause a lot less tourism back then. Definitely an incredibly beautiful place will need to go back one day 😊👍
Take us to the middle of nowhere please! Are there any butterflies there? Haha Love those old buildings. 10 days, nice!! That’s a pretty modernized accommodation.
The accommodation had everything you need in terms of modern facilities while maintaining its historic charm. There are more than butterflies, spiders and centipedes also on the regular. Yen was on edge 😅
Hahah is this now Nick? Nick get your head out of the gutter 😂😂 haha but yea it was like living in an ancient lil castle or something hehe just a little two storey one though 😅👍
Yea the mountains were mean! Definitely wasn't one that Peter could climb up in jandals though so he actually wore shoes for this but still came back all scratched up from a slip 😅 glad he still made it though 🙌😁 super picturesque 🙂👍
Congratulations on 10K!!! You both deserve it very much, and It's only going to continue to grow :) Peter looks so excited!! I can just imagine how awesome the wood must smell as you walk through the house. Is there a reason for everything being vegetarian? The buns look so fluffy and doughy. The mountains seem similar to your Ninh Binh videos. The kids are adorable!!! I would love to visit the countryside China to see how the locals live. Thanks for sharing this awesome experience!
Thanks heaps Lana really appreciate your kind words and support! We're def stoked to have reached this milestone 🙂❤️ Haha 😂 He was super excited! I was apprehensive about the bugs I'd have to face hahah thankfully only ran into some creepy ones towards the end of the stay 😂😅 I think they said originally they use to cook meat for the meals too but too many foreigners didn't know how to eat the dishes so didn't enjoy it so they changed to all vegetarian to keep it simple and more palatable for the majority of visitors 🙂 less waste that way too I guess! The mountains do look similar to the ones in Ninh Binh ay? We thought the same thing when we saw them too 🙂 Hehe yes the kids were rather cute.. by the end of our time there they would show up shirtless too for their workouts to copy Peter 😂 so precious! ❤️🙂
@@PeterandYen Oh I see, that makes sense. So beautiful, countryside China looks very interesting and beautiful! Haha yes, they were so cute! That's gold :D Glad you guys had a great time!
that drone shots are absolutely amazing...! i could completely feel how excited you were just by your smile Peter! i can't help but be excited for you too :) the spot looks really neat and functional but its literally like taking a time machine the bread looks sooooo fluffy lol that impromptu work out at the end xD congrats on ticking off items on your bucket list!!!!
Hey Janice 😁👋 yeah I was super excited for most of the time we were there. Tried to stay in every room to soak it all in. The buns especially are amazing 😍 thank you for the congratulations 😊✌ I have a long bucket list good to tick some of these things off 🤠
I remember travelling from Guangzhou to Yangshuo (near Guilin) back in the 1980s; a day and a half river journey to Wuzhou followed by an eleven hour rickety bus ride. Now it's a two and a half hour high speed train ride. I'm happy that people are now convenienced but I have great memories from the olden days.
Hi Earl, back in those days I remember traveling around with my grandparents too very different to how things are now 😁 must have been amazing seeing Yangshuo back then I imagine the buildings were a lot less commercialized?
Thanks heaps Seliama! 😁🎉 We're pretty stoked to hit 10k in subscribers, couldn't have done it without you and everyone's support though so thank you 😁🙌🎉 and yea the mountains there are beautiful! 😍
Aaawww can’t thank you guys enough for your passion, your dedication and sharing your love with us with all these amazing places and of course my fav......food😋😋 definitely will always support you both💯💯. Thank you guys😊😊👏👏😘😘
Taking the train seems to be the way to travel plus you get to see so much. Being in the old village would be great to visit. That is a great spread of vegetables.
Yeah the train is definitely the best way you get around in China. N the veges in this area are awesome cause most the locals are farmers 😁 🌾🍃 super fresh and no generic modifications

Gosh! I got into this video by searching 'NewZealand daily life' and finished the last video then come to this one. I am just planning to move to NZ so I search some tips and how our lives going to be like in NZ. Surprisingly, you just post this video two days ago? So you are like only 1000 kms away from me at the moment. I am going to subscribe you for this. Well, welcome to China, I am now living in XiaMen, a beautiful city on an island. Welcome to here as well. Enjoy your trip here. Oh, I forgot my wife and I are planning to go NZ for a scout of pos and cons at the end of this year, before our application is approved. Hey Kevin thank you for subscribing and glad you're enjoying the content 😁👍 have a great weekend mate
@@PeterandYen Traditional homemade food definitely has a special charm!
wow Peter and Yen, we are just in minute 3 and we are loving this video ...the transportation to get there is creating so much expectation... we are so intrigued
This was such an adventure 🤠 from the moment we set off to the day we left 😁
It look great, thank for sharing
Wonderful , to get to see you live your childhood dreams. Good luck on the rest of your journey
Thank you! Amazing to be able to tick off a life bucket list item 😁👍
Like watching your blog, hope to see more. Tnx
Thank you Elizabeth 💖✨🙂
Nice fluffy looking bao - and then the combo with the omelette and chili sauce
O man that bao is amazing. I ordered 5 extras every couple of days so I could snack. Thought I'd lose weight being on a vegetarian diet but pretty sure i gained weight 😂😂😂
This is one of a kind experience guys, love it 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing with us!
I (Ony) and my family have been to Guilin before but with a group tour. We took the ferry or boat and sailed on the river. It was a long time ago but the memory is still here, still remember how beautiful those little mountains are in Guilin 😍
Looks something from a postcard!
The airbnb looks amazing too, very nice breakky!
Love this video guys 👏
Thank you Ony glad you enjoyed the video 😊✌ if you went to guilin many years ago it must have been really awesome cause a lot less tourism back then. Definitely an incredibly beautiful place will need to go back one day 😊👍
That does look like a massive station. Glad you got to make your childhood dream come true. So cool that you got your vision to go from the painting.
This was just an awesome experience to finally be able to do. One of lifes greatest bucket list items now ticked off 😁✌
Take us to the middle of nowhere please!
I really love the tour around the accommodation. It felt like sleeping in ancient small palace🥰 Dang shirtless Peter! Next episode: Peter no pants 😏
Hahah is this now Nick? Nick get your head out of the gutter 😂😂 haha but yea it was like living in an ancient lil castle or something hehe just a little two storey one though 😅👍
Haha that was helmi, i told helmi to add the peter no pants hahhaha
😂😂😂
Wow such a hidden gem, really wants to visit there!!
Such a beautiful landscape there, amazing view n wonderful experience about Lao-jia, thanks for sharing n love you guys :)
Thanks Mum, love you too! It's all because of that painting you have of Guilin 😊❤
Si fu Peter with the kids at the end...ha ha. What a fantastic memory for u guys and those kids. Precious. Loved this guys!!!
😁❤ yeah those kids would show up everyday to hang out with me hahahaha
that is so awesome, a dream come true, the picture becoming real ... love it
20 years in the making glad to finally tick off this one from the life bucket list 😁
This is such a cool video! Good to see something so beautiful! Well done 👍
It's a special place and memory for us. Now looking forward to the day we can get back overseas 😅
Bro this was awesome, those mountains are differently unique I’ve only seen these on pictures
Yea the mountains were mean! Definitely wasn't one that Peter could climb up in jandals though so he actually wore shoes for this but still came back all scratched up from a slip 😅 glad he still made it though 🙌😁 super picturesque 🙂👍
Like the shorts 😂🤣👍
@@bittersweet340 😁👍🇳🇿
I love the look of the mountains at 1:47 Just covered in green. Stunning.
The mountains there were really something 😊🍃
Enjoyed this. Incredible. Watching from Turkey. 🇹🇷🇹🇷
Thanks Chiseke! We'd love to visit Turkey one day 🤞🙂
Congratulations on 10K!!!
That's gold :D Glad you guys had a great time!
that drone shots are absolutely amazing...!
i could completely feel how excited you were just by your smile Peter! i can't help but be excited for you too :)
the spot looks really neat and functional but its literally like taking a time machine
the bread looks sooooo fluffy
lol that impromptu work out at the end xD
congrats on ticking off items on your bucket list!!!!
Hey Janice 😁👋 yeah I was super excited for most of the time we were there. Tried to stay in every room to soak it all in. The buns especially are amazing 😍 thank you for the congratulations 😊✌ I have a long bucket list good to tick some of these things off 🤠
Wow, this is such a great experience! So peaceful and serene. Thank you for sharing about this lovely place!

I love your video. I hope one day I can see guilin .
Thank you! Hope you can too and maybe visit this village as well 🙂👍
Where did you get the blue coffee cup? I love it! Link please.
Woohoo 10k subbies, no surprise guys, that’s awesome🎉🎉Absolutely love those gorgeous mountains. Thank you for sharing your love💯💯
Thanks heaps Seliama! 😁🎉 We're pretty stoked to hit 10k in subscribers, couldn't have done it without you and everyone's support though so thank you 😁🙌🎉 and yea the mountains there are beautiful! 😍

Omg the views from the train were so beautiful! 😍
They were ay! We really enjoyed traveling by high speed trains through China. So many different landscapes and sceneries 😍
Thanks for shares this video.
Thanks for watching and commenting 😁👍
Taking the train seems to be the way to travel plus you get to see so much. Being in the old village would be great to visit. That is a great spread of vegetables.
Yeah the train is definitely the best way you get around in China. N the veges in this area are awesome cause most the locals are farmers 😁 🌾🍃 super fresh and no generic modifications

Btw yes it was pretty special getting to make Peter's childhood dream come true! 🙂👍 I'm glad the creepy giant spiders only appeared in the last few days so I could handle the time there in the rural as village 😂👍 and Liv, Peter loves going shirtless, wearing jandals and doing roly polys everywhere hahaha 🤣 can't stop that boy lolol 😂

It was a nice way to experience the countryside and rural China 😊🌾 the people were all very friendly and kind to us too 😊❤
Amazing scenery, nice to see the country side lifestyle being reflected in the video. Peter's 2 disciples were really cute. Good video guys, and congratulations on reaching your 10,000 milestone.
Thanks Dad! Yea they were cute kids. Really liked working out with Peter 😂 Nice to experience a side of China that we wouldn't normally get to since it's so remote!

Kia ora Kaye! Thank you for subbing! Always happy to see fellow kiwis in our comments! 😁👋 Yea it was nice to be able to go overseas and travel again once the borders had opened and it was easier to return home to Aotearoa! Turkey was our first country we visited once that happened and we stayed 3 months there coz that's the max allowed without a visa for NZ passport holders 😊 we made a bunch of videos from China tho which was our trip a few months before the start of the pandemic 😅 feel lucky we got to go! It's been too long since seeing Grandma but China is still tough to go into unfortunately. Hope you get the chance to visit some time too.. it's such an amazing country and pretty different to how western media portrays. Hope you're well over in the Mighty Waikato and the weather has warmed up there! Auckland has been cold and rainy as lately.. hurry up summer ay 😆❤️

Did it get really chilly in Waikato too? Even the North Island had snow flurries in a few cities but the South Island with all that snow.. crazy 😯 thankfully warming up again this weekend 🙌🙂 definitely looking forward to summer 👍 Hope you have an awesome weekend!
Amazing scenery! Must have been unreal hiking up those hills.
These hills were so amazing, no commercialisation either so it was full on jagged lime stone formations. Beautiful and dangerous at the same time 😅
i was in this place, Guilin, once in 2019, it's really amazing place.... i cant wait and visit again..... especially the huge incredible cave.....
See ya here, there, and hopefully, there again. :)

O awesome I want to visit Xiamen sometime in the future too it's a very beautiful place 😁👍 We were in Guilin a few weeks ago but have since left China unfortunately although we're back in Auckland near the end of the year so who knows we might bump into each other hahaha. Have a great trip and enjoy your time in New Zealand 😊✌ thank you so much for subscribing too!
Li, when you both visit NZ, if it includes Auckland and you would like a local to show you the sights [no fee] contact me if you wish cjhanson64@gmail.com. Peter + Yen, I enjoyed viewing Guilin from your perspective, very different to my visit there with limited rural viewing.
Wow guys! We loved this episode. I could tell this place was a bit special for you Peter. This place is absolutely stunning. I don't know if you guys are studio Ghibli fans, but if you are, we got serious Ghibli vibes from this place. Was so cute seeing Peter training those lil dude!
