    Damn right, I'd love to see & maybe hear A & B when you're done. I'm a strong believer in quality parts!

      So much garbage is being passed off as hi end with $1.50 worth of crossover parts. I'd really like to see more!

    Great video. Thank you for uploading. Any chance that you know what size the screws are for the Klipsch r-52c? I have the one with copper screws around the horn and speakers, but I want to get black ones. Thanks in advance.

    1. Why the manufacturer simply would not put a better parts in the first place?
    2. Are there any speakers which does not require overhauling them?
    Thanks!

      @Rick Corel - Great question.
      1. It would be way to expensive and they would be competitive in the market.
      2. Yes, try looking at speakers in the $2k price range and up.

      @@Casey_Schmidt I actually meant why do not sell $200 speakers for $300 but with better audio crossover?

      @@rickcorel5154 - It really just comes down to the fact that 99% of the customers can’t hear the difference between the low quality components and high-quality components. In fact most of them probably wouldn’t even care to know the difference. So it doesn’t make sense for the company to make their product less marketable by making it more expensive. Why put in a $15 capacitor when eight $.15 capacitor will do the same job for what they need, you know? It’s a bit annoying of course but such is the world of cost cutting.

      @@Casey_Schmidt Thanks for such the nice explanation! After a hearing test my doctor said I have excellent hearing, and on top of it recently I have found out that I am a synesthete, who sees colors while hearing the music. These colors are very vivid and different shapes and create a beautiful combinations.
      Thanks to you, now I know how to search for my speakers.
      Stay safe!

      @@Casey_Schmidt Now I know that they do not make anymore amplifiers with low THD (0.01 or less) because 99% would not notice any difference. :)

    Don't go out of your way by spending money if you don't think it's needed. I'd love to see the upgrade though. Thanks for the vid as it's great to see the process of "reverse engineering" a crossover in action :)

    Hi Casey! I have one question: You said the drivers are 16 Ohm impedance. Did you actually verified this or did you just assume because they are wired in parallel and it is written 8 Ohm on the tag. I have seen speakers advertised as 8 Ohm with 2 X 4 Ohm woofers in parallel. Let me tell you that my amplifier did like it. Concerning the upgrade, I don't think it deserve to be upgraded unless you listen to it a lot. Thanks for another great video!

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Yves! I don’t have the tools/software to directly measure driver impedance. The speaker is nominally 8 ohms and the way you get 8 ohms impedance from parallel drivers, mathematically, is for the two to be 16 ohms. So let’s say I’m making an educated guess by calling them 16 ohm drivers.
      Thank you for the input on whether or not to upgrade it! I do agree, for me it’s not worth upgrading since I don’t get a lot of use out of it but if there’s interest I’ll happy do it for the channel. Thank you for watching!

    • @yvesboutin5604
      @yvesboutin5604 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Casey_Schmidt I simply use an Ohmeter. If the driver is a 4 Ohm, it will read between 2.7 and 3.3 Ohm DC resistance. An 8 Ohm will read around 5.5 to 7 Ohm DC resistance. So you see it is quite easy to verify if they make a false claim on the impedance. And why they do that? Because it is easier to sell speakers if they are an easy load for the amplifier. Also, the frequency response should be listed with a + /- 6db. Most companies won't divulge those numbers or write any crazy number they can come up with. Personally, I think it is important to report any false advertisement a company make on their product, to discourage such practices.

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Yves Boutin - I'm 100% with you on calling out false claims by companies.
      The DC resistance of each both woofers is 7.2 ohms; checked with two meters. That would indicate an 8 ohm woofer and therefore a 4 ohm total load. I do remember that Klipsch run quite a bit lower impedance than they claim (compared to other companies). Many of their 8 ohm rated speakers are actually closer to 4 or 6 ohms. But 2x4 lumber isn't really 2" by 4" now is it. I can see where they claim a "nominal 8 ohm load" based on the impedance graph published by other sources; however, actual load can be a little ways off of the rating.

    • @yvesboutin5604
      @yvesboutin5604 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Casey_Schmidt A 4 ohm load is ok by itself but if all the speakers in a home theater are also 4 ohm, it is possible for the amplifier to be running hot to the point of damaging the output transistors. If you already saw an impedance curve, you know it can sometimes go very low in the bass-midrange area (it can get as low as 2 ohm), putting more stress on the amplifier. In fact, it is one of the most interesting topic to study in regard to amplifier-speaker matching. Some amplfiers are so wimpy that a difficult load will make the speakers sound shut-in and dynamicaly constipated. Because of that fact, some reveiwers will say the speakers are good or awful depending on this behavior relating to the matching with their amplifier.

      @@yvesboutin5604 Is there a way to test your speakers to see if they are accurate when listening to them, like a measuring device?
      I am searching for some 2nd speakers better than my current Wharfedale 11.2s and I see most new ones that cost a tone, have cheap parts in them and no charts to display what they claim.
      Found GR Research channel and was 90% into buying some SVS Primes and then I saw his video about even more expensive SVS Ultras center speaker which had crap components.
      I am looking into the used market and some vintage BC Acoustique Fostex made in France, real wood from what I saw, caught my eye, as well as some Dynaudio Contour 1 MK ii made in Denmark and don't know if I should buy new and upgrade the parts or buy some used high end ones and see if I need to upgrade them.
      Thanks.
