  • This very special instrument, of which only 1200 were ever made in the late 1980s, celebrates the twenty-fifth anniversary of Bach's merger with Conn-Selmer! This is an incredible instrument and so much fun to play. Make sure to leave a like and consider subscribing for more instrument reviews!

    Thanks for watching, everybody!! A couple corrections…
    - The tubing walls are much thinner on this Bach, hence why modern slides do not fit. The inner bore might still be the same/very similar size.
    - Despite the heavy caps, the horn is still on the lighter side for a Bach! Less bracing and thinner tubing as mentioned.

      Just saw this. Exactly. The thinner walls of the lightweight tubing.

    Hey!! Thanks for the shoutout!
    This was a great video!!
    My teacher, John J. Haynie, played this model. He loved it.
    I think the bore should be .459. Probably lightweight bore tubing giving you the difference between fit between it and your other Bach.

      So glad you liked it, Dave! I agree with Haynie-it’s a wonderful horn! You’re probably right that it’s still .459, but it does seem to choke off a little for me in the lower register (factors out of bore size’s control, in all likelihood.)

    • @sceu25
      @sceu25 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does Bach make any large bore trumpets? I’m kinda getting tired of .459 bores since I prefer .462 and above and I really want a Bach, but it seems that every trumpet they sell is .459.

    • @DavesTrumpet
      @DavesTrumpet 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sceu25 that’s their standard bore size, but yes, absolutely they have large bore models, in .462!
      Vincent Bach designed complimentary bell and leadpipe combinations in various bore sizes. This means the leadpipe is matched to suit the bell, generally speaking. Thus Bachs tend to play similarly, regardless of bore size.

    Nice video and good playing! I am a fan of these horns and I own one also. There is a certificate of authenticity that came with each horn from Bach. They were produced in 1986 and model 195 has the 43 bell, model 194 has the 37 bell. I believe there were to be 1,000 of each model made. Each horn has a gold trim kit with standard weight valve caps (not heavy weight) and gold plate inside the bell. They were a combination of standard and light weight parts, ie: standard weight body, light weight slides. That is probably why the modern slide does not fit in that horn. They were the prototype for lightweight horns that improved response.
    They were the first of Conn-Selmer’s “Anniversary” trumpets. Recently, they have issued 50th Anniversary (37 bell) and 100th Anniversary (43 bell) trumpets as well as a gold plated Anniversary 3C trumpet mouthpiece.

    There’s an interview Rashawn Ross did a couple months ago where he was talking about working with Bach on horns. Bach told him they needed to work on a “commercial horn.” To which Ross replied “You already have one. It’s called the 37. Jerry Hey man.”

    • @SamuelPlaysBrass
      @SamuelPlaysBrass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny story, but Rashawn is definitely a freak of nature in the way he plays, though. I imagine only about 10% of commercial players are able to get that sort of sound out of a stock Bach 37. Matt Doe of Too Many Zooz played some sort of stock Bach (could still be a 43) for a long time but I think he ended up stripping the silver.
