Splinter's fight scene was so sick because it felt like a classic Jackie fight! solo'ing multiple people, using the environment, and the comedic pauses! Ever since I saw he was playing Splinter, I was praying for a Jackie style fight, and it made me so happy to see :)
I loved this movie so much. So many hip hop callbacks. So many teen references. My youngest teen (who I'd expect to like it the most) slept through most of the movie. And my oldest teen is in that "I'm too cool for things" phase... which is ironic cuz he (like his daddy before him) is a big anime nerd and he kinda geeked out to the references; quietly and with cool reserve but I still caught it. While this back story threw me a little bit, this is definitely my favorite animated turtle movie and comes in right behind the original live action movie.
I didn't want his fight scene to end. I wish the movie was 3 hours long. It's soooo GOOD! I went back and saw it a 2nd time. Do you think a sequel will be possible? I lost hope after they put this on streaming in under 4 weeks 😢 Sequel in 2024 pretty pleaseeee
I grew up on the 2003 & 2012 turtles. Watched the 90 movie so many times and started reading the comics back in 2020. This version of them was dope, love the animation, can’t wait for what’s next and really want to see Casey Jones. GOONGALA!

I just saw the film yesterday. What’s so funny to me is when Donnie talked about Attack on Titan in the film, it really was reminding me of the episode of the 2012 TMNT series called ‘Attack of the mega shredder’ that homages Attack on Titan both in terms of the title and the fact that the turtles were fighting Shredder with methods and gear similar to the Anime.
I loved the Splinter fight, using the office chair like Donnie in TMNT2. The electricity shocks also looked like the Turtles in Time effect strobing the skeletons.
"yes and" in improv broadly just means "accept the premise and build on it." "No but" in response to a question is also a way to build on a scene. And he had an immediate path to a joke, so it was perfectly acceptable improv.
I love the art design and that the Turtles' skin colors match the toys, where there are subtle differences in green. I had fun watching this movie. I also enjoyed the songs. I was bobbing my head several times. Hopefully it gets sequels.

I haven't seen anyone say this yet, but Donnies sweatshirt looks very similar to the design and layout of thr sweatshirt he was obsessed with in the Rise series. The only difference being that it says Jojo on it rather than Purple Dragons, since he had to join the purple dragons tech club in order to obtain the sweat shirt. I also love how TMNT Out of the Shadows, Rise, and Mutant Mayhem Donnies have very similar looks with the tech on their belt buckles and the headphones around his neck, things we didn't see until the 2014 live action turtles film. I can't find it, but my brother also said that Raph wears a shirt that says Mad Dogs which is a fun reference to Rise where Raoh wanted Mad Dogs to be their team name.
This movie just made my inner child insanely happy. The art in this movie was superb. I love the “yadda yadda’d” aspects. And the squiggle lines in the lighting. We’re in such an amazing time for animated movies.
The shot for shot scene of the turtles being carried in a net JUST like in the junkyard scene from "The Secret of the Ooze" (which also dealt with more mutants) took me WAY back!!
When they started riffing like a Sidetalk NYC video (which I'm almost sure they were all referencing), the theater started cracking up out loud. So good lol
As someone who grew up with TMNT I was kinda bummed to not see the original turtles and their story. I remember bonding with my uncle over everything TMNT. He even got me the action figures that I’d never open and just hung on my walls! But seeing my 14 year old brother STOKED seeing the whole movie and saying “it’s not written by 90 year olds” I love the idea that my love for the turtles continues with my younger brother. Movie was dope and happy that the director was able to capture the hearts of the younger gen!
They had a couple references to fast and furious too. In the 2nd of the live action movies, Raphael says “what would Vin Diesel do”. At some point I know they mentioned Tokyo drift, then Tokyo drifted up the parking garage, and jumped the van over the monster just like how they jumped a car past a helicopter off a parking garage in fast and furious 6 I believe. Made me laugh 😂
One of the turtles had a ringtone that was the main stage theme music for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 - The Arcade Game...one of my favorite Easter eggs.
Wait, Was Baxter killed? Did they say he died? I remember them walking him out of the building. Seems like a waste if they did, He's a pretty major villain to just waste for an intro scene.
Couple obscure references (will probably be updated onetime) During the intro scene with Baxter, when you see the drafts of some of the mutants, you can see a prototype sketch of a MOUSER on the white board Also, the news station, April broadcasts at is Channel 6, which happens to have a newscaster named Brynn Thompson (similar to Burne Thompson 😉) Another one I just discovered was the design of the ooze canisters. They resemble the TGRI canisters from Secret of the Ooze! This one could be a stretch, but the prototype ooze Baxter uses before it turns green is the color purple, could be a reference to the Ooze seen in the first season of the 80s cartoon
Anyone else think when they are being carried in the net as they are going to fight superfly, that it may have been a callback to the net they get trapped in during the junk yard fight in secret of the ooze? Liked the movie a lot, super fun. Felt a little off about the backstory, nothing really ties them to shredder.
One thing my mind went to during the initial mission scene was South Park. The white eyes and serious tone only to switch to the fun, childish perspective reminded me so much of the episode of SP when they’re playing ninjas, and the anime scenes cutting to the regular animation each time the game was interrupted for real life 😂
There was a reference to Rush hour when they’re fighting in the Garage. Leo and Raph say you take the guys on the left and I’ll take the guys on the right . Referencing Rush hour 2 spa scene
This movie became a bit funny to me in the No Diggity montage watching Leo swinging his *razor sharp dual katanas* at people's bodies and they just get knocked out or knocked back.
Im surprised u didnt mention the design of the TCRI lab room where the TMNT are captured are similar to the design of the Technodrome transdimensional portal room also when the Turtles & Splinter leave TCRI that the I has a oval around it makin it look like the eye of the technodrome.
I hope the 2nd one introduces Casey Jones as a classmate and the conflict is Shredder as an Ultrom trying to capture the Turtles. Then a 3rd one is Turtles vs the Technodrome.

The "teen" moments when they just joke around hit me in the feels. My friends and I used to do the same thing. It really made the movie feel real

One thing I noticed. Splinter using the chair in the fight scene was exactly similar to Jackie Chan using the chair in the casino in ‘Rush Hour 2’.
