Peter Pettigrew did not *choose* to be a rat, in the books they say the animagus don’t choose, and it’s dangerous because you could turn into a fish far from water and die, which is why it’s monitored by the ministry
One of the theories I like about why Remus carries chocolate all the time is because chocolate is a poison to dogs. He carries it to try and kill the werewolf part inside him.
More likely that he knew Sirius could turn into a dog and at this point thought he still betrayed the potters and wanted to be able to easily take care of him in his dog form
Making dementors fly isn't an overstep at all!!! It's an amazing change that makes these creatures bigger threats that's echoed through the rest of the series. Honestly dementors wouldn't be as scary if they ran around vs flying
I mean, even in the books dementors "flew". They don't walk, they glide in the books. I'm not sure off the top of my head if they do actually fly up to harry during the quidditch match, or Harry is just so effected even like 50 feet away. I think they say there are hundreds of dementors at the quidditch match which is INSANE.
This film had a very notable shift in tone, style and stakes. I remember being quite scared by this one when I was very young. The Whomping Willow and Pettigrew always stuck with me
@@b3yourself91 That's right. One important example from the books is Tonks's Patronus changing from a jackrabbit to a wolf due to falling in love with Remus.
I have always said this one is the best one, which is funny because it is the only one in which Voldemort doesn’t make an appearance. A testament to Cuaron’s work! 🇲🇽
Alfonso Cuaron did right leaving this franchise after making only one movie. Usually, when you see a small budget director going from a small budget to a big budget, he usually wants to stay in the big budget territory, sometimes making sequels or similar movies. Cuaron avoided that, and instead used his experience on big budget movies to explore other genres and try different things. I love a director who explores different genres. Is usually what leads to a lasting career.
There's another interpretation of "You're going to suffer, but be happy about it" from the text. Harry suffers through that night, finding the true betrayer, Lupin's attack, and the Dementor swarm, twice, but is happy in the end because Sirius asks Harry if he would want to live with him.
also, saved a ton of people that were important to him (and the animals they cared about) got to watch hermy sock malfoy twice and do some griffindor thrill-seeking after bedtime, win win win win
You glossed over my favourite line in this movie, after Dumbledore asks Hagrid for a nice cup of tea, or a large brandy: “you’ll find no small glasses in this house”
And it was "first term" so first year? That's what it sounds like from the dialog dispite it may mean beginning of the school year. It's going to be interpreted and misinterpreted for the rest of existence.
@@lylearoyiino, there are 3 terms in a year: September - Christmas, Christmas - Easter and Easter - Summer. So first term means at the start of this school year

I think the students wore everyday clothes beneath their school robes in the books; it even looks like the case based on the book covers. Harry appearing in the Great Hall to confront Snape in the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 might be an easter egg about this detail. Fun Fact: Harry and Hermione's casual clothes from PoA return in DH Pt. 2 during the Battle of Hogwarts, but with an extra coat over them.

The scare prank happened later against yes ravenclaw in another chapter and they actually had the crap scared out of them instead and they got into massive trouble for it
Oh this is AWESOME. It would make a compelling argument for why the Elder Wand is so thin and organic looking. After every owner it's been "carved" away a little more and more
I’m sorry but the line Sirius says; “I DID MY WAITING! TWELVE YEARS OF IT! IN AZKABAN!” has always made me laugh every time I watch it. I know it’s meant to be serious (no pun intended there), but it’s always struck me as humorous 😂
Dementors are shown multiple times in the novels to be flying, including in this book when they attack Harry during the quidditch game and during the 7th book when they fly in to attack the trio in Hogsmeed. Those are just two examples off the top of my head, there's possibly more. They may have been shown flying in the book during the battle of Hogwarts too, especially considering it took multiple patronuses to stop them.
We know from the books Harry’s parents are supposed to be in their very early 20s. The movies aged them up (I believe to keep things consistent with Alan Richman). Do you think in the HBO series it’s important to keep Snape, the Marauders, and Harry’s parents young?
29:30 I like to think that he was a Ravenclaw boy all along, but he was just pranking someone (maybe Trelawney) or he was otherwise busy with some other hijinks that all the students go through but we know nothing about because we focus only on our main group. And the other kids were either playing along or... well... charmed. 😅
Yay! Love the Super Carlin Brothers!! So cool to see them on here! I really want to see the Slytherins' prank during the Quidditch game and how Harry casts his full corporeal Patronus for the first time! They also need to explore the Crookshanks/Padfoot dynamic.

Something I just thought about, regarding Remus always carrying chocolate: He tells Harry chocolate makes you feel better. But as a werewolf, he's part canine and chocolate is known to be toxic to dogs. Remus, in the books, is known later on to be quite apathetic towards the idea of remaining alive. I wonder if this was a "contingency" of sorts for him.
could be, but he can't really control himself to choose the poison when he's a were, and as a human it's harmless - probably still him being fatalistic regardless

The hunchbacked Tom in Prisoner of Azkaban bears a striking resemblance to a hunchbacked wizard creep who approaches Harry in Knockturn Alley in Chamber of Secrets.
It seems like instead of using a Time-Turner himself, Dumbledore learnt about Sirius's innocence through Legilimency? Since he, like the rest of the wizarding world, was under the impression that Sirius is the Secret Keeper and that Pettigrew is dead, and he did not have access to the Marauder's Map like Lupin to confirm that Pettigrew is alive to contradict that impression

I feel so dumb, that analysis of the climax of the movie by Erik and Gina in the Expecto Petronum chapter was so obvious and spot on. Fun video but that segment really heightened this movie for me. Even if unintentional, this will be my head canon.
I feel like when Harry and Ron and the boys are in their dorms late at night taking different candies that have different effects is a parallel to early teens experimenting with drugs in their room with their friends
35:38 the probably did the prank scene after they got the shot they wanted. But just asked to do a safety take and placed the fart machine then. Because it would be pretty hard to get the scene done after the prank.
I’m sure that’s exactly what happened, pretty much everyone was in on it except Daniel, the full outtake is hilarious as Michael Gambon and Alan Rickman keep the scene going longer by improving. Dumbledore makes a long winded explanation about how dreams allow a person to be completely unaware of their surroundings (implying a sleeper can fart away without feeling embarrassed) while Snape simply saying things like “…yes…quite” as all you hear are farts and you can see Daniel is trying his best not to crack while the scene is filming. RIP to two extraordinary talents who brought entire families joy every year.
I'd actually like to see at least 3 Dumbledores meeting in the office like "did you do this?" "Yes, did you do that?" "Do this next then" and them being so casual with meeting another Dumbledore spawning behind them with secret handshakes

So his style would've been fitting for the city of Gotham
My favorite HP movie! I actually love the end shot of Harry smiling, such FREEDOM!
12:10 I would argue this is a collapsable bottle, they are often used in stage magic, and the bottle disappearing into a rag is a classic gag.
Not a hummingbird. Hummingbirds are found only in the Americas. Hummingbirds are not native or found in the wild in the UK. Probably a hummingbird moth
You: “Not a hummingbird…probably a hummingbird”
So it IS still a hummingbird then!
@@ObsessiveGeek Do you always find reading this difficult?
@@takemeaway285reading isn’t the same as comprehension my friend.
I read just fine, yes I know it is actually a moth, I just found it funny it is still named a hummingbird so not really that wrong.
Try not to take things so seriously.
"... an for Ron to be nowhere near it!" LMFAO!
I'd actually like to see at least 3 Dumbledores meeting in the office like "did you do this?" "Yes, did you do that?" "Do this next then" and them being so casual with meeting another Dumbledore spawning behind them with secret handshakes
Enjoying your videos a lot ❤ I don’t have words to express amazing work by everyone
12:28 Fudges drastic change is probably because he is in close proximity to a horcrux locket that Dolores Umbridge is wearing all the time.
Azkaban was the first movie I ever looked forward to come out in 2004 and what a time to be alive to be looking forward to another Azkaban coming out in the HBO series
