I dove to 18 feet once and my ears almost popped off my head. I can’t even imagine the training and years of resistance it takes to get your organs and heart to play nice at those depths.
I cannot imagine why you would dive past 10 feet without the proper knowledge of how to equalize pressure. Great way to absolutely destroy your ears.
@@BrendonCap You make really great points. Thank you.
Use nose plug and try to breath from your nose I mean push the air constantly from.your nose in order to put outward pressure from your ear.Dose that make sense ?

Same. My family and I went to a bunch of different springs consecutively weekend after weekend and my body acclimated. I googled how to equalize and wore a face mask. Seemed to help.
you guys should learn ear decompression... its a necessary skill for diving and makes it a whole lot more fun
Try equalizing the pressure in your ears and sinuses by pinching your nose when exhaling forcibly with your nose & mouth closed. Its the method divers use (valsalva movement)
If you feel pain while descending do not continue as you will rupture your eardrum which can take months to heal, and curtail and future diving/snorkelling activity.

This is insane but at the same time I feel like you should have to descend/ascend under your own power for the "freediving" record. This is more of a "how much pressure can I withstand" challenge.
That's called Constant Weight free diving. This is variable weight, where you're allowed the sled. If you want to see some extreme pressure diving its called "No limit" free diving. They're allowed a sled to bring them down and an air bag to bring them up. The record is 214m.
@@anthonydesouza9983 insane
I didn’t even know you could get pulled down that hard without dying - that first part really surprised me!!!

Oxygen: am I a joke to you
Lungs: am I a joke to you
Water: am I a joke to you
Nose:am I a joke to you
Nose:lemme breathe mf
Actually for the most it has nothing to do with the amount of oxygen you have because your lungs have a large reserve of oxygen. What happens is the Carbon Dioxide build up starts to acidify the blood
Ears : am I a joke to you?
Derpy dumpling it actually has everything with the amount of oxygen you have in your lungs. A tolerance to carbon dioxide is important, however having a larger oxygen reserve is what allows free divers to stay under for so long. When freediving, all we think about is conserving oxygen, by slowing our heart rate and keeping the proper form.
If this guy dropped his phone in the ocean, he could literally chase it, catch it and bring it back up.

Freediving, cave diving, mountaineering all make good Mr. Ballen stories
The hard part isn't holding his breath for that long. These guys can hold their breath longer than that. The hard part is equalizing your ears when the air in your lungs has compressed that far. An untrained person would die just from the compression on their lungs. Extreme freedivers have developed the physiology of their lungs to withstand pressures that would kill an ordinary person.
i hate equalizing .. i have had lots of tubes in my ears at a young age... now trying to equalize is such a pain... most my dives stay around 15 ft for spear fishing
Really?daaam,cool stuff
What Kind of glasses is he wearing? Because it looks like, as would he wear normal glasses, with which you can‘t dive deeper than ~5m. I ask you, because you seem to know sth
@@justusjo4413
You are correct that you cannot wear normal swim goggles for freediving because there's no way to equalize the pressure in them. Scuba divers equalize their masks by exhaling through their nose. At moderate depths freedivers can do the same thing. For deeper freedives I've always seen them use goggles, but fill them before the dive with saline solution. Because water is not compressible, water-filled goggles don't have to be equalized. But in this video William is clearly not doing this. So, the answer to your question is that I do not know! I'm guessing that these goggles are made of something so soft that they can compress right up against his eyes. But that's a guess. You made a good catch here because I had not taken note of the fact that he pulls them down over his eyes at the last minute and does not fill them with water. Perhaps it's also possible that the goggles have openings to allow the water in. Maybe something like a screen to keep anything but water out. Lots of people open their eyes under water, so that's possible, and the goggles would still protect his eyes from debris. This is a stumper!
@@danielschechter8130 I did some research and apparently you were right, there are some sort of swim goggles which fit the eye like contact lenses, hence there is no need to worry about the pressure. The other part was right too, some fill their goggles with steril saline that no pressure euqalisation is needed. At least that's what I found, I could be wrong tho
i completely expected him to be grasping and wailing for air almost passing out when he got to the top but he litterally took a normal breath and went "im ok"
The hard part isn’t holding your breath
@@kulhrada6900 is it just withstanding the pressure or what's hard??
@@spycat2113 if anyone without special training tried diving so deep their lungs would explode, extreme freedivers have developed the physiology of their lungs to withstand pressures that would kill an ordinary person.
@@kulhrada6900 when you dive down, your lungs compact, not expand. Can they explode when they compact? just to be clear, I'm not trying to argue or prove you wrong. I'm just genuinely curious.
@@spycat2113 I don’t know the exact details but the pressure would wreck your lungs
Madness, crazy skills, but madness... How do you decide you know you can do this one day?? Crazy Canadian... I'm Canadian too, from Toronto. Well done William :)
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Might just be my opinion, but I believe that free divers are the most well conditioned physically and mentally of all athletes --- They're in a class all of their own --- Truly the most elite and incredible!
Him going down is terrifying .... coming back up is a mixture of anxiety and relief
Actually going back up is the scariest part because of the possibility of decompression sickness.
@@BlGGESTBROTHER don’t think decompression is really a risk if it’s a breath hold
@@ilikeknafs9563 nah, he literally got sick as fuck from doing this and had to take a week or so break from diving. Just google his name and decomp sickness. Your blood is literally trying to push out your skin. he said he got sick because he wasn't diving under his own power and was brought down by the anchor. Same thing happened to Herbert Nitsch.
@@drudigger tbh the speed of descending and ascending of the assistants is not less scary at all. Especially, for this dude with the handheld propeller.
@@drudigger that aside, what's incredible in my eyes isn't how deep he went... rather that he came back up unaided, I thought he'd come back up with the anchor just as he went down, but he had to use his oxygen and energy to swim back up, which means he could dive even deeper if he was somehow helped back up

It's different from the 130 M recored where the guy actually swam down the whole way to 130m instead of using weight to help him go down... But still impressive non the less.
thanks, i was just about to ask
Which one is more impressive? I have dont know anything about free diving
Gavin Lau the record when the guy swam down is more impressive
yes.. but its from different category. Freediving sport has different categories. The one that Alexey molchanoz did at 130m was CWT. This guy did VWT. Both are freediving.
@@gavincfc Probably when you dive down yourself, as your muscles use oxygen as well, so basically you need to have the ability to hold your breath for much longer.
Something about the ocean just makes me so terrified and claustrophobic. I am actually not claustrophobic at all but the ocean terrifies the life out of me. The idea of being that deep in the vast of nothingness and not knowing whats around you and what might live under there is beyond creepy. My heart was beating so fast the entire video.. Hats off to this guy for being able to go 145m down that scary road.
+Zainab〈3 The same idea of being under water (only up to 6m for me, lol) is what relaxes me :)
Oh i am completely okay with going as deep as 6m or so in a swimming pool. Swimming is actually one of my hobbies. The only thing im not okay with is just the ocean itself and the creatures that live under there.. Scares me so much, lol..
the ocean is the biggest open space on the planet....how do you feel claustrophobic? haha
Well yeah, but its not like we live in the ocean.. Thank god we've got land to live on lol..

Christopher Knowles You must get to know the real God Jesus Christ. I have a small message about God for you.Do you believe in God,? In the last day Jesus would resurrect everyone who ever lived including the good and the bad, and the good would go to heaven while the bad would perish and be tormented in Hell for all eternity, there is no reincarnating into another species, that is a lie, you only have this life to get right with God. today I want to share with you the Gospel of God Jesus Christ who is the only God who came in the flesh and lived among us about 2000 years ago and he was crucified and died for our sins, all men have sinned against God and hence we live in a world full of trouble because the first people named Adam and Eve ate from the tree which God commanded them not to eat from, hence because of their disobedience, Adam and Even were cast out of Paradise. But God in his love and mercy made a way for us to get back into this paradise so that we can once again live with him for eternity in paradise where we never grow old or die and where there is no pain or suffering for all eternity. Today you can take the first step in this journey by believing in God Jesus Christ and accepting him as God(as he was not just a good teacher) and by repenting of your sins. In the last day Jesus would resurrect everyone who ever lived including the good and the bad and the good would go to heaven while the bad would perish and be tormented in Hell for all eternity, there is no reincarnating into another species, that is a lie, you only have this life to get right with God. Therefore we must repent of our sins today and realize that we are not Gods, neither are we divine, only God is divine. Jesus is God and he taught us how to live when he came to Earth , there are 2 destinations either Heaven or Eternal hell fire, those believe in Jesus Christ and who live according to Jesus Christ would go to Heaven but those wicked people who reject him and choose their own paths would be cast into the lake of fire where they shall be tormented for all eternity, this is just the reality, nonetheless it is not fear that cause me to live for God but rather it is my love for him in that he is a merciful and loving God. Focus on the things of God instead of the things of this world as the things of this world are only temporary but the things of God are eternal. If you would like to know more about this I encourage you to study the ESV and KJV Bible as there is vital knowledge that you must have in there as it explains Gods plan for Humanity and what we must do to please him. Do not delay, tomorrow is not promised.Jesus bless you

yea riding a sled down, kinda makes it unrealistic and lame
+Danny Dingo you m7st have never free dived deep
Not that deep but I free dive, To me that wasn't free diving thats riding equipment pulling you down. "Essentially you are saying thats the same as having a dive belt and letting it go at bottom" and its not free diving or piratical...I admit its impressive and this guy has to train for immense pressures and long breath hold, but hes just holding onto equipment. not to take away from this it was impressive, but i want to see a diver have to swim down and see how far you can go then...that would be much more impressive
Danny Dingo i understand but i look at it as the deepest dive as in as far as your body can handle i dont think the swimming down part is as important for the record
in organized diving events such as this one, upon returning to the surface, divers are often supposed to say a phrase such as “I feel fine” or “I am ok” to show they are not suffering from a gas embolus or other possible effects of deep diving compression (failure to properly pronounce the phrase could be a symptom of impending stroke, etc.)
u are pros mr. william winram

actually so impressive how he calmly pulls himself to the surface
Yeah becouse if he started swimming up really fast and started panicking it would be bad
