What I find most amazing about Beyoncé is her CONSISTENCY LIVE!!!!!! She has no pitch problems live and sounds better than the record all while dancing.....in heels. Its one thing to stand there and sing, while sounding great. Its another things to do full choreography and not sound out of breath or miss a note. Thats what makes her special in my opinion.
Why do people keep comparing her to Whitney and Mariah? Beyonce, Mariah and Whitney are all phenomenal female vocalists and you all act like one can’t be great while the other two are. They can all be great at the same time. Please stop.
I accidentally did it in the car and was so happy 😂😂 Also why are you telling the first comment to shut up? They’re literally agreeing with you....rude.
Started taking opera and studying mezzo sopranos and music more in depth. I am not a secular/worldly music follower in any way but I am a fan of real talent. I can easily give credit and props to the work this woman put into her gift of voice. She has overly perfected her strengths to the point she shows no weaknesses in her vocal ability. Take away the lights, stage, prancing/dancing around the platform, and you still have an amazing VOCALIST! Its funny to me that people praise Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, The Clark Sisters, Faith Evans Shirley C. etc but say this woman doesn't compare vocally but I will challenge that. Last but not least you try dancing shouting and praising/worshiping God in church and singing at the same time. It will go from having church to your funeral because your breath is gone but this woman can do it all without a step missed from what i seen in this video. Thank you for the video I have a new perspective.
Her next album needs to be a VOCAL album! I mean we know she can SANG but let this next album serve as a reminder that the girl has the greatest set of pipes and technique we have seen in quite a long time.
I laugh when people say she can't sing or is overrated as a vocalist. It's one thing to not prefer her tone but to say she can't sing is bullshit! Her vocal technique has improved a lot since DC and still continues to be a better singer. Does she have flaws? Of course but that can be said about any singer but it doesn't take away the fact Beyonce can sing her face off. I think another reason people think she can't sing is because she gets more recognition as an entertainer than a singer. People act as if you can't do both and Beyonce has shown not only she's a great entertainer but a great singer.
Like their mind can't process how someone can dance and perform excellently, while also being a vocal monster. A very rare combination that not even the greatest entertainer in the past has possessed.
@ She is a star listed vocalist by vocals experts, like Mariah and Whitney, but the only one of popular music of the 21st century, her vocal technique is impeccable, she is versatile, going from classical music to rap (going through 60 rhythms), national rhythms and rhythms of others countries, like who else did this?), can sound sweet, rasp, strong, soft, whenever wants, people say they want real singers going famous , people who can sing, and the only star singer left over from 90 \ 2000, they are calling overrated, IDIOTS. *
Maybe because her ability to sound different is limited compared to several others out there but she she still vary her overall sound somewhat, is fairly emotive in her own right and certainly more emotive and versatile than Celine Dion, Kylie Minogue and arguably Britney Spears and possibly Kelly Clarkson, etc
@@ianh7525 'Maybe because her ability to sound different is limited', LOL, Beyoncé is the most versatile voice ever in the history of music industry, she can sound rasp, smooth, strong, when she wants, Adele is a boring tone, she sounds the same in 100 songs, listen to one song by her, and you've heard them all, but people won't say that, because she sings depressed ballads and wears long dresses, like people can't talk about Beyoncé vocal abilities, which is star listed by expert vocals, so then invent bushit, clueless like that, that is totally false!
maddie mail well first and foremost your criteria to judge her shows shouldnt be vocals above everything else. what about madonna? or janet? or the countless other amazing performers that werent the best of vocalists? secondly, the setlist was not shit at all lmao. the entire setlist flowed perfectly, and she adjusted the keys and the tempo of all her songs to make sure they went perfectly together. not to mention, the audacity of a black woman to blatantly pay tribute to her culture. this bitch literally did a beautiful epic rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing and then led it into Formation, if that didn't give u chills then idk what csn
Beyonce IS the WHOLE package for sure. Girl can sing like it's nobody's business, put on a fantastic show, dance, and still look good after she has conquered the world.
She's actually *underrated* as a vocalist especially to the masses; the TH-cam vocal community seems to appreciate her vocally but the masses don't even regard her as an exceptional vocalist... The stans overrate her a bit though.
GarageStudio They do. They treat her as though she is actually a classically trained vocalist who can do no wrong. It's like that with most vocalists who are near or on her level though.
Miles Dixon It's funny that you say that, after our last conversation in which you stated this I decided to do my research on this. From what I found, there was only one mention of her actually being classically trained and it was from a fan page who also went on to compare her to Maria Callas and several others. So I dug deeper and researched her vocal coach David Lee Brewer, who also trained Letoya, Kelly, and Latavia, and from what I found, even though he was a classically trained tenor, they were all taught SLS.
We're in 2018 and people still underestimating Bey's vocals, like please evolve...😒😒You may not like her music but she's a great vocalist. Edit after watching the video: Bey invented the word SLAY...
I think it has more to do with her tone. Power and support she def has...i just think people want a sweeter tone from her but that's not what she's serving. She serves power songs and show stopping performances. Just my opinion.
@@WElppp some have argued that she sounds the same in every song and shows limited emotions, which may contain some element of truth but she can still vary her overall sound somewhat and can be fairly emotive in her own right
Good video but I would've liked to see you go more in depth about her vocal creativity/artistry... like why and how she colors certain lyrics, phrases, et al the way she does. Some people have this notion that she's "just a technical singer" and the truth is she's just as expressive as she is impressive.
chantoya17 exactly. Ironically, I don’t think the world really understands “vocalist.” They look for key things to deem you a sanger. Tone, Belting, Long Notes, familiar church or “soulful” riffs and runs - they just about all “Sanger’s” can do. It’s more of a preference in tone, and honestly, her tone is so uniques and has such a wide variety of colors - people are use to their favorite singers about 3-5 vocal tone colors that have been deemed the standard. She has them, she just doesn’t use only those - and she has some of the best intentionality. She sings with the understanding of how her voice works, not just what sounds “good” or “soulful.” That’s not too common. It almost forces you to listen differently. Sucks they don’t give out “I’m a real musician” credit to trained vocalist. Instead they treat her usage of her instrument like a flaw or a given. She will have a voice that outlast a lot of people’s faves, because she is paying attention and cares about her vocal preservation, more than being vocally impressive at all times. She knows what she has. I completely agree with you.
It’s mind-boggling! It’s crazy how time changes all! When Beyonce first came out in the 90’s/2000’s, she was mainly known for her incredible vocal ability. We knew her as the girl who could sing her ASS off in Destiny Child, excluding being the lead singer. She could blow, we all KNEW she could blow and even the GREATS like Whitney , Prince, Patti, Barbara, Tina, Celine and the list goes on acknowledged her vocal talent! And then she went from pop icon and eventually house hold name after the Super Bowl. The more famous she became and the more she put into the performance aspect of her shows. And I swear when SNL did the Beygency sketch that’s when Beyonce culture took off. And surprisingly that’s when she stopped doing interviews and she no longer defended her self. Society made her into this acronym for success but with that came a lot of hate and jealousy! They made her out to be divisive, overtly sexual (although Madonna, Cher, Britney, Gaga, Christina has all put out riskey work), egotistical, racist and eventually overrated! And this woman has never done or said anything to take such hate! It’s like the crucible! And her fans saw the unfair treatment and went on the attack mode. For they had every right to be upset. But even with that, “Stan” culture emerged and just hurt the artist. And now her undeniable talent, singing, dancing, stamina and creative mind has been placed in the back seat. Now you’re considered cool and edgy for thinking Beyoncè is overrated! It’s insane! It’s crazy how sheep we all can me! We deny our own senses (sight, hearing, etc.) and truth! We can’t even acknowledge someone is extremely talented because we would be considered like everyone else! 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ You don’t have to like her genre of music or music in general, but you can’t deny she’s one of the greats of our times. I never cared for rock, rap or country, but I know Tim McGraw, Dolly, Aerosmith, Tupac etc. are legends because they are extremely talented within their crafts! And I appreciate all Genre’s for their contribution to music! No genre is better than another, despite what you have been taught, told or conditioned to believe!
One of the BEST comments ever. Should be posted on every Beyoncé video. To your point, she has stopped the interviews, because people have already made up their minds, and tune her out. I feel sorry for her, in the sense that she’s hated and she hasn’t done much to warrant it. Her existence has become a think that infuriates people. It’s a cool think to view her as overrated.
Like, the video focused on support. Her ornaments, agility, dynamics, harmonies, transitions between registers...All of these could get separate videos.
I think at this point it can’t be denied she is a great vocalist. I’m not an expert,so I won’t say “she’s better than *inserts name*” or etc,but she’s proven she can hang with many of the women vocalist before her and I think we can give her that much credit at this point.
I'm a lamb, but I hate when people say that Mariah and Whitney are a lot better than Beyoncé. Whitney wins in power obviously, but when hitting above E5, she was pretty inconsistent and it was obvious the lack of support she had sometimes. Mariah wins/won in a lot of areas (whistle register, wide vocal range and some kinds of agility), but her belts above E5 were tense, and eventually she avoided anything above an E5 all together. Where Beyoncé wins, is her resonance, her vibrato, agility, fluidity and CONSISTENCY. She is consistently on point, to the point that her fails still rival most people's best. And Beyoncé is one of the few female artists I know whose started her prime in her later 20's (2008-present). To say she is not one of the greats is simply wrong. EDIT: I want to point out that if we were just to take each singer's best performance, then Whitney and Mariah would beat her easily. Beyonce, Barbara, and most greats are like tasty cookies, Whitney and Mariah are tasty cookies decorated with icing (but that's just my opinion).
indigetis ut vos scitis had more resonance than Beyoncé in the D5-F#5 region. Beyoncé's resonance is much bigger in her low notes, F#4-C5 belts and especially her head voice, where Mariah isn't close.
I agree, but I'm saying Beyonce was a lot more consistent than either Mariah or Whitney, even in Mariah's prime (but to be fair, Mariah rarely lipped in her prime, like Beyonce has done).
Whitney NEVER lacked of support, in fact her support was more consistent than Beyonce's. Mariah has nodules, it's unfair to compare a singer whit healthy voice whit a singer whit unhealthy one. Also Mariah and Whitney have much more Musicanship than Beyonce
PurelyAfrican you're so immature. First of all, comparing vocalist with the others are only valid when it's taken from their overall technique. Music is art yes. But singing also include science which can be applied & measured in consideration on how good a vocalist is. Singing is all about technique, it's the basis of it, on how your voice produced inside your mouth & how you can change it to multiple varieties. Everything else such as tone, soul, emotion, fame & etc are completely SUBJECTIVE. That's why it's dumb & so irrelevant to bring those up when you're discussing these vocalists.
Something I wanted to acknowledge in the video in some manner is that even with her level of technique, perfection isn't attainable. Beyoncé doesn't produce the absolute best resonance and she has her share of poorly produced notes. While I think she's underrated for most, to her fan base she's sometimes even overrated. Like any vocalist, she has flaws. However, shown by the video, her positives very much outweigh the negative. Her consistency has only improved throughout the years, and even though 2016 had some rough moments, she is still very much on top of the game.
Great video. When you sing as much as Beyonce has in her career, there's going to be imperfect notes and even a bad performance every now and then. That said, Beyonce is a great vocal performer with a naturally great ear and understanding for what the strengths of her voice are.
Aaro Tähtivuori the throatiness is caused by her belting style, it's a typical alternative to the Broadway style, e.i. Aretha, Patti, Whitney, even Mariah quite often had throatiness. I don't consider it much of a problem, since it doesn't cause any major damage, the way Beyoncé does it. It's mostly modification of how much air comes out for growls. But the chestiness above Eb5 is real. Eb5 is still pretty even. But if you listen to raise every voice and sing it's amazingly resonant to my ears at least.
Aaro Tähtivuori her mix is balanced it's just she's still singing like she's 20. The change her voice went through after her pregnancy lowered her belting tessitura meaning she either needs to sing headier or place higher. What is and what isn't a balanced mix depends on the frequency of the note, that's why her G#4-Eb5 belting range is extremely beautiful, in my opinion, after 2013, but she's lacking in the E5-F5.
Aaro Tähtivuori also it was a problem since 4. She had been too chesty for her own good since 4. But the F#5 in Say Yes make me question if she's just pretending. The F#5 were amazing
Many people simply won't care about that, unfortunately. They will simply say something like "Her voice isn't powerful like that of Whitney Houston'; or 'She doesn't have a whistle register like Mariah Carey'; or 'She can't belt as high as Vanessa Amorosi', etc.
Amazing singer = loud, be soprano or scream desperately Soulful singer = throaty, oversinging Real vocalist = can not dance Beyoncé' is neither of them, yeah so she's "overrated", it's all about striotypes! , people are victim of stereotype and media propaganda, they think being a vocalist is wearing long dresses and singing depressing ballads, being a vocalist: it's having above-average vocal skills, a lot vocal skills, control, impeccable technique, and musicality , everything Beyoncé has, that's why she's star listed vocalist by vocals experts , and unique star listed in 21st century popular music!

Anyone but beyonce. Shes sexy. Thats it thats all" So People are angry because Beyoncé has it all, the look, the vocals, the fame, sensuality, sweetness, a' correct 'life (she only had two boyfriends, and only had sex with one man ), does not use drugs, so they try to get something out of her, so they feel good about themselves, SAD !
I don't understand why everyone is bringing other singers which are considered legendary to this. We aren't talking about wether Beyoncé should be in a Legendary Pedestal or not. That's not the point. Yes Whitney is amazing yes so is Barbara but that's not the point at all and I don't see why people assumed that's what the video was about... It's simply to show that it's kinda of unwise to say Beyoncé isn't a really good singer. We just saw proof of that with the video. I don't give a damn if Whitney had perfect control over 34 octaves, the topic isn't to discuss one compared to the other. The main point of this video is that Beyoncé *is* vocally underrated. Most people now only look at the performance and dance and not the vocals from her. Now some people were regarding the emotions evoked on their songs. This isn't part of the video, again, but I think it's also important to a vocalist. And no, it doesn't have to be about fluffy and romantic things, romantic love isn't the only emotion worthy of being in music (as some 3 different people said). My favorite singer on that regard is Sia. To me she's a fucking masterpiece and vocal powerhouse but I know her voice is not the best due to 1)She damaged her voice throughout the years with drugs and alcohol in the past. And 2) she didn't get much training. Most of what she knows she learned it by herself and I say per experience that learning to sing by yourself is extremely hard and frustrating. I hate the fact that no matter how much I practice I can't do a good vibrato. Everytime I have it "naturally" it's too fast (I think this is called a Tremelo or smth) but enough this isn't About Sia or me so just ignore that part of my comment. Beyoncé *IS* vocally underrated
She is definitely not overrated vocally. In another video, some stupid person was rating singers and he said that Beyonce was overrated and I was like "What the heck is he talking about?!" because she is an amazing vocalist and needs to get more praise for her vocals. She is definitely underrated vocally.

Sad that we’ll never have an actual vocal trinity in this era. Beyoncé and Gaga etc are the only one keeping up with the good techniques of this era. We have lots of Singers coming out of no where these days who can’t even support properly with just their catchy tunes. The future of music is probably pretty crappy when u have a Jacob sartorius and Team10 etc coming out with what they call “music”
Baddest Donut Beyonce and gaga are definitely not the only current popular artists with good technique. Kelly Clarkson, Pink, John Legend, all of pentatonix, Sara Bareilles, etc
I would hardly call Pink's technique great she barely supports above C5 that nothing better then Ariana, Demi, Jennifer Hudson and many more. Jojo sings circles around Pink.
+TayTay BeyNippyy Pink supports G5s she doesn't resonate though. Her lows are also amazing down to D3 and her head voice up to D6. Jojo might be better, but honestly Jojo doesn't balance her voice at all. But she's young and neither did Beyonce at her age
She's mostly overrated as a public personality by her stans and general culture. Like "Beyonce is such a queen, a godess, ect..." Hearing that over and over without actually hearing her, one usually gets tired of hearing about her. So her "goddess stature" makes her own vocals take a backseat to her...Sad though, she's a fantastic performer, showing both vocal slayage and stamina.
The fact that people think Beyonce can't sing and that Adele is a legendary vocalist is beyond me.

she's so good at growling, like she can growl a little bit on a note or fully and she can phrase while growling too

Faith Evans be struggling live too,so idk what they talking about there. 😂
Her next album needs to be a VOCAL album! I mean we know she can SANG but let this next album serve as a reminder that the girl has the greatest set of pipes and technique we have seen in quite a long time.
Not necessarily a Vocal album but Renaissance has some top-tier vocals in songs like Plastic Off The Sofa and Virgo’s Groove.
@@squarcircle2254It got some vocals live. That’s where she brings the vocals, during the lives like Whitney and Mariah do.
It hurts that so many people think she has a "boring" tone lol
Like their mind can't process how someone can dance and perform excellently, while also being a vocal monster. A very rare combination that not even the greatest entertainer in the past has possessed.
@ She is a star listed vocalist by vocals experts, like Mariah and Whitney, but the only one of popular music of the 21st century, her vocal technique is impeccable, she is
versatile, going from classical music to rap (going through 60 rhythms),
national rhythms and rhythms of others countries, like who else did
this?), can sound sweet, rasp, strong, soft, whenever wants,
people say they want real singers going famous , people who can sing, and the only star singer left over from 90 \ 2000, they are calling overrated, IDIOTS.
I don't get how people can think Beyonce is overrated or talentless. I can't even begin to fathom what goes on in their head
maddie mail girl...
maddie mail almost the whole show was live...
and why do yall act like vocals is the only thing that matters... it is not her best vocal performance it is her best PERFORMANCE...
maddie mail i cannot even begin to tell you in how many ways that performance was amazing and her best yet
maddie mail well first and foremost your criteria to judge her shows shouldnt be vocals above everything else. what about madonna? or janet? or the countless other amazing performers that werent the best of vocalists? secondly, the setlist was not shit at all lmao. the entire setlist flowed perfectly, and she adjusted the keys and the tempo of all her songs to make sure they went perfectly together. not to mention, the audacity of a black woman to blatantly pay tribute to her culture. this bitch literally did a beautiful epic rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing and then led it into Formation, if that didn't give u chills then idk what csn
SuperPianogirl123 she is classically trained tho
SuperPianogirl123 she's actually classically trained
Miles Dixon It's funny that you say that, after our last conversation in which you stated this I decided to do my research on this. From what I found, there was only one mention of her actually being classically trained and it was from a fan page who also went on to compare her to Maria Callas and several others. So I dug deeper and researched her vocal coach David Lee Brewer, who also trained Letoya, Kelly, and Latavia, and from what I found, even though he was a classically trained tenor, they were all taught SLS.
SuperPianogirl123 still haven't negate the fact that she's classically trained
Part 2 with a focus on agility, dynamics and vocal ornaments please and thank you.
We're in 2018 and people still underestimating Bey's vocals, like please evolve...😒😒You may not like her music but she's a great vocalist.
Edit after watching the video: Bey invented the word SLAY...
yanina novas Gays have been saying SLAY for years. Knock it off
I think it has more to do with her tone. Power and support she def has...i just think people want a sweeter tone from her but that's not what she's serving. She serves power songs and show stopping performances. Just my opinion.
But she can also be sweet. Her head voice is good, she's good with dynamics.
She's so diverse with her voice its crazy
She’s a chameleon she can serve many colors people are just annoying and contrarion
@@WElppp some have argued that she sounds the same in every song and shows limited emotions, which may contain some element of truth but she can still vary her overall sound somewhat and can be fairly emotive in her own right
The E5s in Listen on X Factor were so effortless. And her head voice. 😍
People are getting used to her slayage
So they downgrade her or aren’t as impressed anymore
If you know what I mean
(English not my first language)
Her head voice is behind beyond superior! The amount of support and power!

Finally someone understands how it went.... Honestly you need to be at the top all the time
One of the BEST comments ever.
Josh P. Jackson preach it sister!!!
Funny thing is you could turn this into a 10 part series.
Solo12313 preachhh. This needa be posted everywhere that haters are
indigetis ut vos scitis had more resonance than Beyoncé in the D5-F#5 region.
I totally agree!!! Plus the F5’s in Me,Myself, and I are everything honestly!
lmao just this morning I was thinking how underrated her vocals are. thank you for this gem!! love me a compilation of her beautiful voice 😍
MrSkinnyJeanz3 Beyoncé's resonance is almost optimal from E3-D5-A5, but her belts in general above C#5 could be much more resonant.
Somebody needs to make a video about her dynamics! From crescendos to diminuendos, messa di voce, her volume control, growls, etc.
Many people simply won't care about that, unfortunately. They will simply say something like "Her voice isn't powerful like that of Whitney Houston'; or 'She doesn't have a whistle register like Mariah Carey'; or 'She can't belt as high as Vanessa Amorosi', etc.
3:16 appreciate the fact that you put this performance. It is so underrated!

Id go with candice boyd ... Amber Riley ...
DankSouls Actually a fast vibrato isn't bad you just have to learn to control it
She is definitely not overrated vocally.
