    Welcome to Malaysia.
On behalf of all Malaysians, I do apologize if our attitude does not display the standards as described by our government officials.
I hope you enjoy your stay in Malaysia, and don't be afraid to speak out when some Malaysians are blasting their audio from their smartphones in public transportation, or speaking too loud in public. Some of us will defend and back you up, the Japanese people have a special place in our hearts.

Central Market was once a wet market very busy in the morning with people going there to get their fresh produce, meat & fish, fresh noodles, etc. It was then converted to a cultural center which is what you see today. Pre-Covid, it's a tourist attraction with a lot of activities happening outside & within the market. Glad to see you & family visited it.

Palm oil is cheaper and can withstand higher temperature compared to rapeseed/olive/sunflower oil and it taste natural. The only two common cooking oil that can withstand higher temperature than palm oil is peanut oil (you usually found a mixed peanut + palm oil in supermarket) and coconut oil. Both usually priced higher than palm oil.

You can do to Donki to get more Japanese cooking ingredients. And if you think you will be here long enough, it’s a good idea to buy an average priced water filter, because you don’t need to buy the heavy bottles of water all the time. There are many filter models available in stores and online.

The previous okra is though because they pluck it a bit late than harvest time. So it got way too fibrey texture like loofah. Tips to get soft and young okra is to check on the bottom of the okra. If u see hole, that means its already old. Try to squeeze the body, if u feel it a bit boxy and hard around the edge dont buy it. It should be bouncy, no hole at the bottom and not to hard when squeeze. Have you try online shopping in malaysia? Some stuff is quite cheaper than mart.

@@suddenlymovingtomalaysia6135 if you want to save more, try local grocery stores. Very local that sort of looks like like they try to stuff everything in small shop lot and sometimes things overflow to walkway. i don't recommend buying fresh produce from lotus. most of the time the quality isn't very good and they're very pricey. if your area has Hero or Giant, it's better to go there for a cheaper price & better quality. not the best, but still OK compared to Lotus. Aeon or Jaya Grocer has good quality items and a lot of Japanese products.

Japanese and Western even Singaporean thought all Malaysian goods is cheap. It's indeed cheap because u guys are rich guy (hell of money). For average Malaysian, the price is a daylight robbery. Many poor people struggle to live. Even thou husband and wife both gone to work, its still not cover monthly cost at all... (Sad face)... It makes me wonder how poor people will overcome every part of grown up province? Even villages area now has increased price on market. A small portion of veggies now cost 4rm vs 2rm before covid 19 event occur. A small junk food which cost 2rm now gone into 4rm. It was crazy, for the poor people the world has gone crazy. Some people gamble their life by making living thru food business. Overall not all businessman will succeed since everyone is doing the same thing and the same food. Anyway, it is nice to had u here and it is not strange today's life if u encountered rich foreigner living in Malaysia such as Japanese, USA, England, India, China, Indonesia. Everyone wants to escape from something stressful yes?
