When such a talented artist such as yourself has taken the time to demonstrate your skills, the least I can do is get of my bottom and make the effort to paint again... Thank you.
today I was feeling the same way you a were at the moment of time, and are describing in this comment!... and this man, made the miracle to make me want to keep trying...
Hi Ben, Thank you for sharing your process! It is inspiring to see someone else's approach. I guess I shoot from the hip a bit more. But I probably pay for that... I like the variety of colors that you are able to get from your photos. It would be great to see a video on how to take a good source photo for a portrait. If you can ever get around to it. Your source photos are fantastic!
Awesome portrait. Very very beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Myself, I always paint children live ... which loses some likeness ... but enables me to 'connect' with the child's astonishing soul oftentimes ... to get magically blessed.
I really admire you for your generosity in sharing and teaching how to paint a portrait, I had been on different painting painting seminars and I can tell you that I have learned more from you than from those. I don't know why you say you are not an Artist but a craftsman, to me a Carpenter that makes a beautiful chair are as artists as those who paint a beautiful portrait, as far as me is concern, you are an excellent Artist. To me the background, can you give some advice about it, Thank you so much Rosa M.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this video, as the day before I had seen this portrait in your book 100 Portraits. Although it is too short, it is very interesting to watch the painting process.
I love how he uses a long 1x1 board held by his left hand to stabilize his right hand for precision points. Lots of trial and error over years of practice to establish such refined techniques
Amazing job. I really like how you created your tones right before you start the painting great job... I wish you we're my instructor!! Keep up the great work!
ive watched this video and the underpainting one many times. I know you use Burnt Umber oil for the underpainting . ive tried acrylics . Going back to oil . Again i could watch this video a 100 times and see something every time. The video is like a painting that maybe fifty years from now someone will learn from it. Just so much in it.
wow you make those cheap paints actually look good, can't tell by looking at it if they are old holland or winton.. you have good skills with your warms and cools
Thank you for your tutorials......I'm really wanting to paint my grand daughters but have been a little intimidated. This makes me want to give it a go🙂
Vague question possibly, but what tips would you suggest for getting skin tones down quickly? I labour over doing mine for ages & never end up happy with them, usually because it takes so long to get it (almost) right.
Here I don't know a quick solution. And I guess there isn´t. The secret is in the set up I am afraid. Try to premix you basic colors as much close as possible. You might try the glazing technique. But that is not my cup of tea.
....спасибо огромное за видео.....очень вдохновляет .....Ваши портреты очень реалистичны.....браво....есть у кого учиться писать правильно портреты....
If the underpanting is acrylics you can start inmediately in oil. In this video I did the underpainting in oil, burnt umber. That has to dry at least 24 hours.
How did you blend all the tones in her skin together? How do you get the paint to go from blocky patches of tones to blending them together just enough where they look soft but don't wash each other out??

I can seriously watch your videos all day! I love how you spend so much time preparing your pallet and always checking the colors. Thank you sir!
That moment when you add a spot of white to the iris and suddenly, the painting is alive.

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
grate video. its gives good insight in your technique.
Didn't learn nttn, but this was really good to look at.
I remember in Art class back in HS our Art Teacher showed us how to paint a a brass unicorn using all sorts of colors.
How did you blend all the tones in her skin together? How do you get the paint to go from blocky patches of tones to blending them together just enough where they look soft but don't wash each other out??
I blend usually with a dry brush on top over the edge of the two patches, sometimes I add an in-between touch.
Or simply rubbing with my finger.
sierra cottle
fantastic. You are really not holding back in experimenting with those skin tones. Amazing ow they came together in the end!
Title says learn so I'd expect an explanation as to why he's doing what he's doing

This was not a tutorial. Yes he is clever but he didn't teach anything in this video. You could say excellent ad for your video shop.
