The Bob Ross of Procreate
This is exactly what I’ve been needing. I struggle with making backgrounds and landscapes and I only use Procreate so this is perfect.
Easy to follow and a calm voice!! Thanks to you that I finally started digital art 🙏🏽
Glad I could help!
To show us each steps make me realise I can do it ! thank you so much
you made procreate and the digital art process seem so simple! i've been really struggling with figuring out how to place colors and use the brushes and watching you helped so much!
James, first off I wanted to say thank you for these tutorials, they are amazing. As someone who was recently wheelchair bound, you have helped me quite a bit those days I was feeling stuck and needing something like your vids in my life. So, thanks again for all you do. Lastly, I wanted to see if you might ever have an interest in doing some of these tutorials with martian planet scapes or planets in general as the subject sometime? I would love to be able to someday create art similar to one of my all time fav artists, Simon Stalenhag. Cheers.
I've been following you recently and I want to say your tutorials are easy to follow. Thank you for taking the time to be simplistic and thoughtful with how you communicate your process. 🤜🤛
You are so welcome!
This guy is the Bob Ross of digital art. Love your videos. Perhaps you can do a Bob Ross series where you do your interpretation of some of Bob Ross's paintings.
Haha thanks, not a bad idea!
This guy should get sponsored by an apple pencil tip producer. I go through tips quick when i paint on my ipad
I go through them too but not too quickly
How? I used the same tip since 2018? Must have a death grip.
Do you use paper like screen protectors? Those are known to wear down tips. I have yet to need a change in tips.
Paperlike screen protector eats the pen tip
Get a metal nip if you're using a paperlike screen protector. That way you'll never have to change your pen tip ever again.
James, I want to thank you for being a fantastic educator regarding this app.
Brilliant! I am so happy with my results following along!
Great to hear!
What a beautiful work.
You made it look so easy to follow. Thanks!
Loved this one James! What a gift you have! Thank you for sharing it with us. Already posted on your FB page and other places :)
Love you, James..... You are a genius 🎉
Too kind thank you 🙏
And so was Bob Ross
That was incredible , totally feel like i nailed it !
Fantastic 😊
Whew! Great tutorial as usual. You make it look so easy. This one really messed with my ADD, but I did finally finish it. Thank you so much.
Add doesn't exist, don't mind those people bullshit
Thank you for sharing all these wonderful tutorials with us. I have learned so much and it’s really fun to see the finished results. Have a Great Day.
You are so welcome!
Now that’s what I call TALENT!!! Thanks, James. I don’t usually draw but now I found a way to keep myself busy during time off. Just subscribed to your Patreon account. You’re such a blessing to many!
Thank you so much
Hi James. This is truly awesome. I have a request for a video that I think would be very useful. I would like to know the process behind picking out the colors and how you go about it!
Cheers!
Thank you, James!
You’re welcome
Howdy, Tutor James. I’m always amazed how good your paintings are with default brushes.
Thank you so much 😀
Recently got an iPad and procreate, you got me locked for all future tutorials good sir🔥🔥🔥

Wow..Amazing Painting.. well done
Thank you! Cheers!
I tried it and uploaded on twitter, as a reply of your tweet of this video. It's quite alike, but the river I drew is a disaster haha I got desperate on that. This was my first time drawing a landscape and Im very new on procreate. Thanks for the tutorial.
Brutal. So damn good.
Thank you 🙏
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
Wow James. Now this IS very Bob Ross if ever I saw it. I hope you wore the wig when creating this.
Can’t wait to do this one. Should be getting my new iPad too this week sometime. It’s been three entire months without one. Hated not having it to draw!
Eek hope you enjoy getting it back! Thank you 🙏
Omg help you never fail to amaze me 😭
Keep it up :3
Thank you so much
Bro is talented ✨
Thank you 🙏
Is so amazing woooow ❤❤❤❤ i will try to drawing it 😊
Thank you
Thank you
My pleasure
Thank you sir~~
You're welcome
I went to look at something on your channel. When I checked, I noticed that I was unsubbed. I hope TH-cam didn't unsub me from your channel for whatever reason and I hope no one else had this issue. I resubbed but wanted to give you, or anybody else, a heads up. Thanks for all your hard work and tutorials!
Seems to be a common thing!
★★★ GREAT TUTORIALS. ★★★
Glad you like them!
Who would have thought Bob Ross would use the iPad for his paintings 👨🎨🎨🖌🖼
Haha thanks ☺️
This is so beautiful
Thank you
Thanks for the amazing tutorial, how do you pick the colors to use in the palette?
You're welcome 😊
I really appreciate all you do to teach us!
I’m a bit frustrated because when I use my iPad with the same soft airbrush brush set to the same percentage… it is more blown out, so then I have to figure out which percentage is closest to the effect you’re getting.
What is your iPad size?
Change canvas size
@@JamesJulier-Artist 10.2 display.
You need more subscribers
Working on it lol
Great videos! I guess you’re using the iPad Pro? I’m thinking of buying the current iPad Air 5th gen or the soon-to-be-released 6th gen. Would the iPad Air + Apple Pencil 2 be just as good as the iPad Pro?
Pretty much yes
Another to add to my list of James tutorials I need to do…!
If you take requests, could you do a painting of monument valley? I’ve been trying to do one myself but just can’t get it right :/
Could you also tell your settings for the soft brush. Mine doesn’t look like yours in the slightest.
Thank you!
Unless I say otherwise the brushes are set to default, I think the canvas size or even the iPad size might affect the brush comparison
@@JamesJulier-Artist awesome, thanks for the reply, thinking back that does make sense!
Thanks for the tutorials too, I can’t draw/paint to save my life but that’s all changed now!
First like ❤
Ha thank you 🙏
Do you think a pressure-sensitive stylus is necessary for digital painting/art, or can it be done with a stylus with only tilt control?
For me I think that pressure sensitivity is really important. The tilt is far less predictable and less easy to control precisely
Hey!i wanna use you as an artist in my igcse portfolio so please gimme small details such as when and where you were born, your education and why you create art also lemme know if you have some legitimate art pieces fir the mood board, would really appreciate it thanks!
the fact that you do these essentially for free still baffles me, your process is amazing and i watch through every second of these vids (mind you i only found your channel recently after considering getting an ipad, basically last week). i havent followed along yet but just watching is extremely helpful, hopefully by the end of the year ill have saved up enough to get my own ipad and will come back to follow the awesome guides you make!
My pleasure, glad you enjoy and benefit from them
I will buy an iPad and will start drawing.
Great
Hello: I have this question. Is it possible to make a drawing of big size? for example 2 meters x 1 mts (2000 mm x 1000 mm) without pixelation? Thank You.
I have Android (Xiaomi pad 6) please tell me which app is best for paint...like this great artist ❤
Buy an ipad, no other solution sorry.
Is ipad pro 11 inch size good for illustration or i shud go for 12.9 inch ?
Either is great
are you using the paperlike screen protector? It sounds like paper haha
Do you use real images for inspiration or are your paintings all original landscapes you think of in your head?
He definitely uses Bob Ross for inspiration. Bob was famous for using this technique.
When you set out to create a piece of art, do you have an idea of what you want the final product to look like or do you just go with the flow?
who made the intro for you at the beginning of the video?
A company called Zabstract
Do you think an 11 inch ipad is good enough for art? I want something I can take to various places not just the desk.
That 11 inch measurement may be diagonal corner to corner measurement. Rather than LxWxH. Buyer beware on that. Otherwise most paper sketch books are usually within the 10” to 12” range. The size should be comparable.
Looks like the grand Tetons.
Do you use the raiser brush for smaller trees?
This may be a silly question, but I’m very new to all this… does your hand touching the screen cause problems when using Procreate? I get a shaky hand if I can’t rest it on the page, so I imagine digital drawing would be a challenge if I can’t rest my hand on the screen while drawing!
With the size of the iPad and the way you hold the pencil, I find I never rest my hand on the screen
There’s a setting in procreate where you can turn off the option to draw with your fingers. Hope this helps.
Grazie!!! é bellissimo! Thank you so much! You are very good and know how to explain very well. You are the best!
Thank you too!
Bob ross😢😢
I really enjoyed this tutorial. Unfortunately my brushes went down a bit different. Assuming it's a pen pressure thing or something, but it looks out of focus compared to yours.
Yeh i have this issue as well. Also the colours are different for me. Its way more “grey”
Who also thought of Zelda?😂
Haa
Are the special brushes already in procreate? Or do I have to Download them? From where then?😮
Man why are your brushes so saturated and small while mines are see through and circular. Using the same capacity. 2 pen on air 5. I must have missed a step somewhere 😅
I accidentally put the clouds and the mountain on the same layer 😅
Only you can drawing like dies
Thank you
The mountain is absolutely impossible for a beginner :/
No
How to drawn a landscape on procreate in 1million simple steps.
How many would you expect? lol
I made 100's of these with chatgpt in a few minutes. And mine has dragons. it's like you don't even know what dragons are.
lol
And you are more educated know? Zero contribution so far.
@@katjavainionpaa1844 they might as well be making videos on how to operate elevators or telegraph machines. my "contribution" is pointing out that this is already obsolete and people shouldn't waste their time on it. your time would be better spent embracing and mastering the new technology ASAP.
Loved this one James! What a gift you have! Thank you for sharing it with us. Already posted on your FB page and other places :)
Thank you 🙏
