Every little bit helps!
Thanks QB.....worked....ran into a few snags since I'm running Windows 8.....I would suggest installing PDAnet before hand...worked much easier that way.....just an FYI to anyone running Windows 8.
you can try a different cable.
also try reinstalling PDAnet on your PC
just followed this using newest tool kit v1.7.2 and works great! thanks so much!
Hey, just rooted my Nexus 10 yesterday and I got the optimizing 110 apps thing happening every, single, time I reboot and it takes like 20 minutes. Is there a fix for this? I can't find answers for this anywhere.
I went through the whole root process just fine up until I had to start SuperSU. When I started it i got an error message that said "there is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it." I tried going through the root again and the same thing happened. How can i fix this?
Keep up the good work Tim! I've been with you since I got my Photon a year ago. I started making video's and I do some Android OS dev stuff and I make android apps/games as well. I just wanted you to know I will be linking every one of my Nexus 10 videos to you so people can get their device rooted/unlocked properly. Click on the name for some other vids if you want guys!
at 07:50 you have to push "powerbutton+ the right volume button" if you want to wipe data
so once your in bootloader, hit recovery, then you will see the little dead droid with the triangle... this is where it gets tricky...
keep tapping ( DONT HOLD) the power and volume left ( dont know which is up or down, so i say left, the one close to the power key)., or in some cases just mash all the buttons till the menu pops up! then click wipe data then wipe cache and the device reboots itself
Thank you so much. It was very easy to root my nexus 10 with your help :) Now I can install paranoid android on it ;) Great job man.
hi, i got a problem trying to unlock my bootloader, it stucked and as suggested i tried to recovere it in stock mode, butI cant do it, it comes every time the normal recovery mode no matter how i press the 3 buttons, any help????
i got stuck in the bootloader screen and i did what you said and factory wiped it and then clicked restart now and i am stuck in the bootloader again, what do i do?
After you unlocked your bootloader? Go into your recovery and do a factory reset
Why did you skip step one of guide installation(launch device mgr.) where it says to delete all samsung/nexus usb drivers and ADB interface devices and 2 other particular devices, then rebooting computer. Then going to step 2 PDAnet drivers button as the install directions state?. Is this possibly why in the video the tablet got stuck into boot loop. Thanks for all the great videos and help.
Thanks so much. I thought my Nexus 10 was bricked or something for a little while but that trick to get it out of the boot loop worked great.
yes
I am stuck in bootloop.
I was on 4.2.2. when when i clicked the unlock from the nexus root toolkit, it brought me into TWM recovery, but I just restarted the device .. trying to follow your instructions.
Now when i reboot the device, it shows the unlocking symbol, but it is stuck in bootloop. and when i hold down the power and volume buttons, it restarts it but just brings it back to bootloop everytime.
what should i do?
yes
Simply won't work for me. The software never detects the adb device. I'm running a Nexus 10 with Android 4.2.2. When I run the full driver test, it tries but never detects the ADB device. I tried all the troubleshooting options without success. The computer I'm attaching it to is Windows 7, 64 bit.
I should mention, the PDANet drivers installed just fine. PDANet always detects when I connect the Nexus to the computer, but nothing within Nexus Root Toolkit detects it.
Just plug your Nexus 10 in the PC during installation
Great video! It would be nice with a small update halfway through, though, 'cuz TWRP is a little different now. I almost soiled myself when TWRP popped up and asked for a password :-) After running around in circles for a couple of minutes I sat down and read the instructions in the toolkit again, which of course saved my arse.
Great with the instruction on how to get on from bootloop, I got that one myself.
Rooting allows for the flashing of Custom ROM's that often offer enhanced customization features as well as performance enhancers. ROMs like CM 10 let you completely re-theme everything including the task bar. With features like this you also have root only apps like Lucky Patcher which removes adds or verification licenses from apps along with things like set cpu that lets you control your cpu to either save battery or overclock. This among other things. It is DEFINITELY worth rooting :).
Ok I have unlocked the bootloader but root/custom recovery process fails. After the final reboot during the root I just get an android with a red exclamation mark. The tablet then reboots after a minute back to the OS. I presume its not rooted or any custom recovery is installed? There is no supersu in the apps draw.
The reason i've rooted mine is because i like custom roms and being able to tweak the system. Also, i've found that 4.2.1 has been extremely unstable resulting in my nexus 10 crashing at least 3 times a day. Furthermore, I don't like chrome an awful lot and currently downloading AOKP's ROM. You should take a look on youtube at this ROM... its pretty impressive.
Nexus devices always have the latest firmware. I rooted and installed CM10.1 on my Nex10, but went back to the stock ROM. Not too much to offer other than OC (which just maxed out the CPU). PA and AOSP weren't anything to write home about, either. Really hoping the groups like The Blu Kuban get some ROMs out.
I meant this device in particular. I rooted my GS3, I'm on 4.1.2 on that Cyanogen Mod. I'm already on 4.2 on my Nexus 10. What features will I gain? Some apps don't work with root, like Time Warner Cable app. I just don't see the reason for rooting my tablet when I have a rooted phone. Those roms don't offer anything extra
Can i uninstall the PDA net utility after rooting? Didnt realize the walkthrough said cancel installation after installing usb drivers so i installed the whole thing. I wanna get rid of the utility but don't wanna lose my usb drivers. tnx in advance
Ih ! thx for your video, they are all great !! i just recieved my N10... but i have a bootloop after trying to unlock the booloader... how can i do ?? in the recovery i don't find the way to restore and try again !! pleeeeeeease help me :)
how do you install custom ROMs on the nexus 10 after you're done rooting the device? do you have a video of it?
i get the unlock padlock, im able to click into recovery mode, and i see a little android with a red triangle....and so keep trying the 3 finger reboot, but i never get to the blue letters screen... im stuck
After I rooted my device, I went to Recovery Mode to get in CWRM, and it didn't load, it just went to the stock recovery mode instead. I know I rooted my device because I installed busybox. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks it worked for me. But I have a problem now.
Today I had Rooted my Nexus 10 & flashed TWRP Recovery through WugFresh's Nexus Toolkit v2.1.9. but in every restarts/Power ON it is optimizing it's all apps.Any guss why it is doing like this. I am on stock ROM only.
Thanks in advance :)
i got stuck. i held down the 3 buttons it showed the unloick screen and then its showed the colored x. it stuck on the colored x and did not go back into the bootloader screen. did i brick my device?
I was a die-hard HTC fan (Touch, TP2, EVO, EVO3D), until I got a GS2. I am sold out to Samsung now. I think the hardware is better, and the Dev Roms are better IMO. Even stock Roms are better.
I have a question. You did recovery at the end of the video. Where is this recovery located? Should I backup it to my PC? If I wipe my device will be this recovery deleted too? Thanks
Frantically paced procedure but I did it :) Thanks so much. Now I can use a sixaxis controller for Vice City. So question, when Google roll out a new version - do we still get them?
You know that the method you did that fixed the bootloop will work for the Nexus 4 has well, right?
yup that worked to get me out of the bootloop. I think I wound up actually pressing the left volume button and power simultaneously after just going crazy on them for about 20 seconds.
i love nexus..so easy if anyone is stressed about this U have no idea how stressful it was for me when android first came out Htc G1 is what i started on. We came a long way
I recently bought nexus 10 tablet, it had version 4.2.2, Also I downloaded nexus root toolkit version 1.6.3.. do u have updated info for using toolkit with 4.2.2?
Thanks from the future G!
My build is listed as JOP40F. Every toolkit I find, including this one, is listed as supporting JOP40D. They both run 4.2.1 - so will this still work for me?
Looks like Wug's has a problem for the time being. I think he is working on it. In the meantime I used N-Cry toolkit to root and I worked perfectly.
I can't root mine! It doesn't pick up my tablet and even going to the link for the driver, doesn't solve my problem :(
What else can I do?
i have a windows 8 laptop. so should i did the driver solution 3 RAW Drivers? or just continue to download the driver solution 1 PdaNet Drivers?
thank you , worked like a charm. FYI, if your running into problems with this procedure, then maybe you shouldn't root your device.
Hey man, to get to the stock recover screen, it's the power button and the volume down (so two outside buttons) at the same time :)
Hey, can you help me, please, nexus root toolkit 1.6.2 can't do flash stock + unroot, the Hashcheck is mismatch, what to do?
Try the mskip toolkit. there is a 1-click option to unlock bootloader, root, busybox, and install custom recovery (TWRP or CWM)
I think so it has option to selected I will check patchnotes BRB...doesnt say sooo but I am gonna try now wish me luck
why would someone want to root this device, i rooted the gs3 to get pure android 2.1. why would anyone want to do this?
yes but it is more advanced than jailbreaking and is not hated by Google it is actually somewhat sported by Google
usually if you have a custom recovery, no
A bit suspicious that the ROMs are downloaded from a Washington Server only. Greetings from NSA ?
youre welcome! thanks for the support
you are the man........
Do we have to go though the steps to do the drivers ? Or can we skip it because its confusing ?
if i root my android device i still can get the official updates via wifi (software update) ??
When I plug in the device after installing the drivers nothing pops up, should I continue?
What drivers do I need to install if I have already rooted my Nexus S and Nexus 7 (mskip toolkit) on my PC?
You used to make reviews of Roms before, why don't you do it anymore? I would like to see a reason for me to root my devices again.
Smooth as a baby's butt! Thanks for the simple instructions. Even stuck in bootloop, but you even made that easy!
I wanna say thank you for this great tutorial. it helpmed me flash my new Nexus 10 4.4.2 :)
run through it again
Yep
Hi, I need some help)
When I'm trying to root the Nexus10 (after I unlocked the bootloader), the tablet reboots into bootloader mode and then blue sign appears saying "fastboot status - data 0047..." (don't remember the rest of the numbers). Any ideas what I can do?
Thank you in advance)
to get to the bootloader you need just to press volume - and power button :)
Just a tip, never do a "system wipe" i did, and i died for a sec...(ok, maybe more)
I did a full wipe, so my tablet was clean, no OS or files (no backups)
I had a Transformer Prime, so i put a ROM in the SD card and flashed it, done. Nexus 10 does not have SD, so, i dont know how to recover. I wont do that again xD
Nevermind, seems to be an issue with the USB port, all good now it seems
stuck on the X booting up part way through the unlock. what do I do?
i got stuck on the x screen just before stock recovery, what to do?
it cannot find my adb information. I have updated my drivers, etc. can I force the issue or skip it? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.
you can unplugg and plugg it again
In recovery mode i think you only need to press Volume UP + power
I tried, but it keeps losing its connection to my computer and it's not my cable, it's a new cable. Edit: okay fixed the problem, but how do I know it's rooted?
+Versora Hellsing Download any app requiring root, or CPUz and look for the root access spec.
i downloaded the root toolkit but my tab says cant open file please help.
I've managed to unlock with no problems but now when i use the root button on the root toolkit it reboots into bootloader and displays on the PC "Booting modified boot.img to enable running privileged commands.." and seems to get stuck there. On the tablet "FASTBOOT STATUS - DATA00480000" is displayed. Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?
I tried, now my nexus is dead, no sign of life even when i put it on charger!!! can you help?
YAY. Finally rooted. Ready to make more videos!
So far I want to do this procedure but does it root 4.2.2?
hi i need help it tells me ive Fastboot divice was not fount what can i do?
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the video. The rooting went buttery smooth. I am having some trouble updating my stock nexus to 4.2.1 though. When installing the zip with TWRP, I get a "set_perm: some changes failed E:error 4.2.1.zip (Status 7)" error. I tried reverting back to stock, and update automatically, update it through the stock recovery, all failed. What to do now?
Running 4.3
After I was able to Root the nexus10, and open up SuperSU, message "No SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
If you just upgraded to 4.3, need to manually re-root"
ill tell u soon but the site says it does work for 4.3
Where is the full review of this tablet! ? You owe me
Wow thanks. Appreciate the feed back will root soon.
Tap Volume Up key while hold and press Power button
google it and you will be answered

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for the tutorial. I rooted every one of my android devices however its great to see someone go through the trouble of going through the process step by step. Good work!!
Why would you root? What do you get from it?
Thanks so much for the video! It worked great! Am looking forward to connecting my dualshock 3 to play some old school Starfox 64.
awesome dude thanks it worked to the T
I have managed to remove the os from my nexus 10 is there any way of reinstalling a copy?
what is root? is it like jailbraking?
Also, great video. Was awesome being able to see my PC and Nexus doing exactly what you were showing.
Thank you very much I just wonder what you do at the very end of the video?
