Ok people: take your glasses off and/or contacts. I use my phone but you can use anything, now take that object and move it away from your eyes until it begins to blur. STOP. That’s your blue line, don’t go any further. Now stare at it and relax your face muscles and eye muscles. The more relaxed the better. Blink and try to refocus on the blur. I finally see that active focus is the most important part about ending myopia. It is just like that little muscle to lift one eyebrow that we forgot where it is, you got to find it again. I imagine that I have a brush at the end of my nose that I lightly sweep over what I am wanting to focus on, I breathe and try to release any tension I am carrying in my eyes, neck shoulders etc. and I softly blink letting my eyes be relaxed and receptive. I like the term active focus, but there is an element of passivity where you have to relax and let your eyes and brain figure out how to make it work. Be engaged, but don't force it!
I have my Snellen chart about 3m away from the computer screen, and usually can just barely read the big E on top. It's massively blurry. Watched this video, tried meditatively focusing on the chart for a few mins. Relaxed, relaxed my eyes. Breathed, blinked. TADA!! Could suddenly read the 20/70 line! ..That was yesterday. This morning I looked at the chart again, and got to the 20/50 line! Conclusion: Active focus WORKS, folks. Listen to the awesome advice in this video, and you'll get it too! (Note: I'm aware that in the video, Jake recommends working just outside of the blur line, and with a book - not a super blurry chart 3m away. However, I wanted to try both. I'm working with books too. :) )
Holy crap I really didn’t expect this to work at all to be honest. My eyesight isn’t too bad, I have a -1.25 prescription, but I was staring at this text on my wall which is insanely blurry to me like it looks like individual squares instead of letters and for a second it became completely focused. I freaked out so I lost that focus, but oh my god you really aren’t making this stuff up. Thank you for sharing your knowledge at zero cost.
"Just gimme the shtepsss" Also I love the feeling in my eyes when I am achieving active focus. It's almost like the opposite of eye strain. It feels like your eyes are putting an effort just like you can feel your muscles work in the gym. It's a good feeling. That's my experience at least.
I feel this when I change the resolution on my computer screen so that the letters are a bit smaller where I actually have to try to focus, and I feel like my eyes are putting in effort like it hurts a little bit but I'm not sure if that's good or bad. It's not a super bad feeling like when I put on contacts and then wear reading glasses and try to read close up, that's horrible. but I dunno if it's bad or not. Also I don't know if it's considered close vision or not. When I'm sitting the way I'm supposed to ergonomically at my desk my monitor is 37" away from my eyes. Is that considered close vision?
Thank God! Dude I tried eye exercises about 15 years ago. I made progress and improved by a diaper in each eye. Was at -5ish to now -3.5 and -4.0. I knew I needed step down glasses but had no clue how to figure out how much to step down because I could not get feedback to hold focus / work in the right direction ~ eyes just went blurry after a while and I couldn't get past that wall. I just found your website and this is a godsend! I need to research some more to make my close up glasses and some step down glasses. Super cool. Thanks for making this!
So i read the captions words through my weaker left eye by patching my right eye and listening to you about active focusing and reading the same and tried applying at the same time!:)
You also can improve your vision /eyesight by reducing your blood glucose levels and your insulin production . People with eye diseases generally have high blood sugar levels and high insulin production....glaucoma, macular degenerationm etc....ask any diabetic
Awesome video as usual Jake, thank you! What helped me a lot at the beggining (and still does) is 'long blinks': close your eyes, breathe, relax and after a while open them and voilá, clear text . It won't happen the first time maybe, but it eventually will. Needless to say, you cannot do it while driving or in any other activities that require all your attention, so please behave out there ;D
At first, I made quick progress. Then the active focus technique seemed to stall. I was frustrated for months until I read your comment about long blinks. It helped immediately with the letters jumping into focus when I open my eye. Many many thanks.
I found your channel like a week ago and I already subscribed to your free 7 day email guide, which is completed. For now I am only doing two things, first removing my distance glasses for reading or screen time, and I changed my room lights to more warm lights, also changed my device settings to warm screen. 😅
Yah it helps alot. I got it in my first try what i did i just focused on a single alphabet for a minute and a tear came from my eyes and i blinked, after that every thing seemed crystal clear but i could hold on that sharp image just for 2-3 seconds i blinked again and it was gone, as i kept on doing it again and again for atlest 15-20 minutes everyday i see improvements i.e can see clearly and i no longer feel the need of wearing glasses for everything when i have blur i focus and it clears up and then i know wt im lookin at.Still searching for a friendly optometrist who would help me with Normalised and differentials. Thanks Jake for everything u r doing to help others. 👍
Can you pls tell That on which degree of blur you do active focus........ I mean how much blur is necessary to do a successful active focus and do you use your glasses while doing it REPLY PLEASE
@@divyansh9837 Brother just print a snellen chart and start focusing on the alphabets 20 feet away from you, don't worry about blur that much because ur visual cortex can clear any amount of blur as long as u know hw to do active focus.I would just say start doing active focus using a book i mean printed text it will help u a lot in active focusing.Move the printed text away from u and the point or distance where blur occurs means u r not able to read clearly but u get what the word is just keep the book at that distance at start reading within a minute or two u will see the text clearly. And no i don't do active focus using glasses.
Jake, these tips are so helpful, thank you. I found meditative mind helps quite well to tune up myself in appreciative and curious mindset. Relaxed, playful, curious way of looking to the world is the key. As you already pointed in few videos, to have a child-like attitude. We can learn a lot from them. ;)

Class Jake, have begun to get active focus over the past few days while out walking the dog & trying to read road signs & stuff that are a little out of focus that come clearer by just blinking & relaxing…the focus happens 👍🏻
I decided to do a search today on how to improve my vision. I had theories that I was sure that I could improve my vision naturally. I have presbyopia. My thought was that there are muscles in the eyes, so, they should be able to be strengthened just like doing squats for your legs. I've practiced active focus without knowing it. I was wondering, what is going on? Why can I see what I'm reading for a few seconds and then it goes back to sort of a blur. You answered a lot of questions for me. Thanks so much!!!
Jake - a video on *distance active focus would be really awesome (i usually can only get closer up AC but with distance it seems extremely harder; noticed many other similar comments too)
Great! Thx Jake. Also, use “long” arms to hold tablet as far as possible away from eyes. Would suggest this video be titled “Closeup AF For Beginners”, with perhaps a follow up “Distance AF For Beginners”. Super effort for humanity Jake!
Hey, guys.... For the last few months, I've discovered active focus. Since then I've started to practice it everyday so that I could be able to sharpen a slight blurred text or object. So after a few tries and blinks, I noticed things were slightly clear and a bit doubled (if there was a STOP sign, it would be slightly clear and a bit doubled). So this was the same result that I started to get since that day( that was a long time ago). And sometimes an unconscious blink would clear things up. By the way, it works for me with glasses and without them. Until yesterday, I went out and I forgot my glasses at home and I've decided to just leave them. So I started to blink to see if anything would change, after a few tries, I blinked once and EVERYTHING WAS SO F*CKING CLEAR and better than before. Not one text was doubled and I felt so amazed. Plus it wasn't so clear like 20/20 vision, it was just such a noticeable difference and I realized that no glasses or contacts were on my face. I stayed like this for about 15 sec without blinking, after a blink, everything went back normal.... I just wanted to share this with you guys. Also, my left eye is -5.50 and right eye is -4.50 and yep I guess I'm legally blind. And eye floaters too. That's all, folks...
I am using active focus watching this video. The individual white and black whiskers in the beard are very helpful for something to trigger active focus or recognise it.
Hi Jake! Its my first day trying active focus. I think i made it. I just concentrate. Most of the time the text is blurry but after 10-15 mins the text gets clear then blurred again. I hope I could stop the progression of my myopia. - 5.00 OD - 4.50 OS Thank you so much! 😊
@@mrck5613 if your eyes are worse than -2 diopter wear weaker glasses than your normal prescription. If your eyes are better don’t wear glasses while practicing this.
Gorgeous analogy with meditation and meditative state, that's exactly how I tried it the first time without reading too much about it, and of course, it worked. So sad that more people don't meditate, they don't have that extra kick of awareness in their lives
When I look at close up objects like a book I can make the text look blurry or clear at will Like I let my eyes relax and let it get blurry and then I suddenly try to focus and it gets a little clear and brighter Also it sometimes appears double but clear on the first image and blur on the second one There are no tears or strain but it feels good Is that what active focus is? I am currently using my old glasses for smartphone and home use
What an awesome guy. This Active Focus thing is a sheer stroke of genius 👍💚 Thank you for the effort of sharing your insight with all of us who are seeking and looking.
Hey jake, im 13, from the UK, when I was 10 I was warned by my mum about myopia and when I turned 12, a few months later I HAD myopia, I was gaming FOR hours regularly thats why I got it. I dont like wearing glasses and dont want to wear them but have to. Im REALLY depressed about this, really SAD because I dont know what to do but hopefully I learn Active Focus and understand it in a few weeks. I regret how my mum used to say about me getting glasses, and ruining my visual personality by wearing glasses.
46 and I recently got an eye exam, my left eye is -0.25 and my right eye is -0.75. This Active Focus is all new to me but definitely looking to try it out to improve my vision. When trying on Far Away objects do I keep both eyes open or block the view of one eye at a time?
I was at the ophthalmologist again. It's already second one...she told me the same thing: it's not possible to change the size of eyes and reduce the diopters. THERE ISN'T ANY SINGLE SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN CASE. 😢
Her not knowing isn't the same as it not being possible. And yes there are many scientifically proven cases. Your ophthalmologist doesn't know what she's talking about Here are scientifically proven cases: www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-15456-4

@@endmyopiathank you for your answer. They diagnosed her with myopia and now she is wearing glasses. I will start doing the exercises with her and 2 hours of outdoors times everyday. I am so grateful to have found this channel and I am positive she will be fine in no time!
Great video. Thank you. Those videos of yours always put me back on track when optometrists wanna sell my bifocals. I am making slow but steady progress. Can't thank you enough. One question: I know that outdoor time is the best, but what about practicing active focus on an eye chart when you can't go out or it's dark outside?
First I watch your video, I dont understand what is active focus. I try to listen many times. So i just try it to read a banner sign at my home, it's still blurry but I got the feeling that I can read it! Amazing feeling, I can't explain it
Take a book outside, or in natural light, and look at the text. Look as close as you need to see the letters sharply then distance yourself from the book so the text gets slightly blurry. Then try to make it sharp by focusing and blinking Relax your eyes, don't EVER squint
@@joshiki1827 actually if you are like me, im -5 and i can't see anything on distance, it just give me blur adaptation which is kinda bad and i can't active focusing, i cant even see anything on distance. So instead i use my differential glasses (-2,00) for active focusing on distance. If it's close up active focus which i still can see the text then it's okay to not wear glasses
Hi Jake! Great video! I would love to improve my eyes but the problem is that my left eye is -12.5 and right is -5.25. I have been wearing the same glasses for 9 years. I got a new pair a few years ago--stronger in strength which hurt my left eye so I went back to my old pair. My left eye is pretty much blind at this point, so I only can improve my right eye. I will do the active focus and hope for the best. With my high diopter, it will be expensive to change as I improve. I am 47 years old, not that age is a factor. Thanks for the video!
Hi sir Jake! I am convinced that depending on my glasses really made my eyesight worse overtime.....because I've been wearing them since 2nd grade (I was just 8 years old) and my prescription was -2.00 plus something can't remember. Over the years I thought my vision would get clearer but it's the opposite. My parents and optometrists keep telling me it's because I don't wear my glasses all the time but I do wear them all day all night. The only time I take them off is when I go to the shower or sleep. Now my left eye is -3.75 and my right eye is -5.00. I didn't even notice thr difference because my lefy is dominant one. I'm desperately finding ways to restore my vision and I want to try your method. The thing is I am really confused. I read in your site that I am supposed to wear my glasses only for far distance and not close up. I can't read well or use my phone with my glasses. And the active focus thingy, I tried it several times on my phone sometimes I read some textbooks and I do it outdoors. I try to put the object far enough to have a little blur and yes, it does get clearer if I concentrate loke try hard and like blink a few times but it is tiring. I'm worried I might be doing it wrong. I mighy be thinking I'm training my eyes but instead I'm straining. 😭Also, though my right eye is -5.00 I use glasses that are -3.75 both left and right. Is that fine? Also you mentioned to not use the full prescription. So what is the right... like prescription that's just enough for me to improve my vision and not rely on my full minues lenses. Also I don't wear my glasses right away when I wake up. You also mentionrd to wear them only when you need it. I kinda need to wear them all the time though like when I use my phone, wash the dishes or eat or something......so How often should I wear them? From -3.75 and -5.00 how many diopters should be lessened? Yeah I know I'm so dumb for asking this but please do tell me. (And you always say not to wear the full prescription...) I live in a remote area so I can't buy the stuff I need to measure everything on my own....And the active focus thingy, should it only be done outdoors and in broad daylight? Please do reply 😭😭😭😭 please please please sir Jake.....I will do whatever it takes to get my vision back to 20/20😭
I am not Jake, but replying as I saw it. Don't use that glasses i.e -3.75. As it can cause Lazy Eye it is very dangerous. I don't know whether endmyopia will work or not. But if you want to try, then reduce it that much that Power in LHS=RHS
When I try this and able to focus, the eye becomes be a bit itchy and making me wants to blink. Should I blink or force open my eyes to keep the focus?
No just blink first if you think that you are just not able to see a clear image after the blink then try keeping your open for more time and just try to focus not make your eyes tense just relax and focus
@Jibon Sarkarthere are other things which are far more important than active focus when you will adjust those things active focus will become easier and auto for you Thos things are :- 1. Posture 2. Screen time aur close up 3. Breathing - how u breath ?? Fix it if u breath shallow from chest because it causes muscles tension and increases myopia. The practical steps you can take to reduce myopia are 1. Smiling - yes ! It reduces stress and reduce myopia too ..Give your eyes as much relaxation time like outdoor time 2. Limit your close up to 15-20 minutes or just try 20-20-20 rule 3. Start practicing Deep breathing technique daily for 5-10 minutes 4. Start doing some massage neck area shoulder and back 5. Do some stretching exercises to help your posture and relax. 6. Then comes active focus 100% concentration and just observing how you are seeing the blur and focusing on the breath taking deep breath and blinking normally .....will help you ....as you fix above things it will become easiwr for you to do active focus..
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this, any thoughts are appreciated! I have been testing my eyesight with several methods to keep a log and I don't know how I should interpret my progress. I started at - 5.0 diopters (which was over correction, I actually had maybe - 4,25). Now I'm wearing - 3,50 glasses that give me 20/20 eyesight. However, I can without straining see letters on the eye chart or read text from a distance which would give me around - 1,75 diopter or even better eyesight. There might be on and off haze in the background though, for example if I'm reading text I see the text in crisp detail but sometimes see a blurry shadow sort of under the text, sometimes over it, sometimes not at all. So is this just some real good active focus? I'm wondering if my myopia to a great extent has been ciliary spasm because of my quick progress and awful eye habits (which I was unaware of) prior to finding endmyopia
Good attempt to understand AF however I think most people including myself understand what active focus is (which is clearing some slight blur by staring at it) however most people are seeking steps to get active focus, not the definition of what it is. Staring at something in a relaxed meditative state seems to be one of the steps of active focus. Are there more steps than staring at an object in a relaxed way ? If AF focus is simply staring at something until it clears up then this must only work when you are stationary or not moving because you can't stare at something when you are moving such as walking in the park or parking lot. How do you do Af when you are moving, where you can't easily stare at things in a meditative way easily? I want to start doing AF while walking in the woods or parks, I am trying to change some habit by increasing time spent outside however I can get things to clear up quickly by staring at it while moving or walking. When you walk it will only take few seconds to reach to the slightly blurred object, for example if looking at a tree 6 feet away that appear slightly blurred and I attempt to clear it by staring at it, I would not have enough time to clear it up before getting too close to the tree where it will automatically focus due to getting close to it but not due to AF
The same happens to me. I try active focus on my way to work, but car plates become readable cause I get closer. I also do that with people faces while I walk, I want to see how close the get until I can see their face clearly and people look at me weird 😂 But, it is good to be aware of your eye sight and I think that even trying to practice it while moving, is still good. I think that by being outdoors you are not worsening your myopia cause you are looking at things in the distance.
Do we have to get differantials? I have high myopia and I try to find active focus by taking off my glasses and looking at the text which is a little blurry from the distance I have it. Is this okay?

Set a timer on your phone for 2 hours or 3 hours and once that time is over take a 1 hour or a 30 minute from your phone, also when you are in that break go outside and do the active focus and look at things like license plates.
Probably means ur doing it too much and stare too much. U also just wanna look around and move ur eyes a lil bit or ur just not blinking quite enough. That can happen if u have low blink frequentie

Ive had glasses full time for 25yrs, personally i don't care if it takes another 25 to reverse it with healthy eye habits as long as its working. My eyes are the same (-4.5) as yours. Im new to it but from what I've heard, if you're consistent, keep learning and avoid bad habits we will hopefully see a quick improvement releasing the ciliary spasm and learning active focus, then a slower improvement for 3-5 years back to 20/20 with some luck. Everyone is different. Watch all the vids, read everyones comments, go to the website, read as much as you can (use it as active focus training). Stick with it :)

@@fiftyshadesofurban thank you for sharing your experience!

You're right it does :)! Did it while reading your comment. Thanks!
@@clintwhite3021 Glad it helped! :)
At first, I made quick progress. Then the active focus technique seemed to stall. I was frustrated for months until I read your comment about long blinks. It helped immediately with the letters jumping into focus when I open my eye. Many many thanks.

Update?
Its hard to meditate and concentrating because i daydream a lot, also get sleepy at some point...
So,can we practice this with or without glasses?
I am using active focus watching this video. The individual white and black whiskers in the beard are very helpful for something to trigger active focus or recognise it.
Hi Jake! Its my first day trying active focus. I think i made it. I just concentrate. Most of the time the text is blurry but after 10-15 mins the text gets clear then blurred again. I hope I could stop the progression of my myopia. - 5.00 OD - 4.50 OS

@Stoney Renegade I am talking about active focus
You explain things so well! For real! I understand completely thank you! I like the outro lol
When I look at close up objects like a book
I can make the text look blurry or clear at will
Like I let my eyes relax and let it get blurry and then I suddenly try to focus and it gets a little clear and brighter
Also it sometimes appears double but clear on the first image and blur on the second one
There are no tears or strain but it feels good
Is that what active focus is?
I am currently using my old glasses for smartphone and home use
Whoa it actually worked well.. I have perfect vison before all of this but wow my vison just got ever better I have the eyes of an eagle!!!!!
What about now?
I keep on blinking while focused and relaxed, after 40 seconds i think it gets a bit clear and i keep on blinking its still the same

I can do it on close up but cannot on distance. Why
46 and I recently got an eye exam, my left eye is -0.25 and my right eye is -0.75. This Active Focus is all new to me but definitely looking to try it out to improve my vision. When trying on Far Away objects do I keep both eyes open or block the view of one eye at a time?

One question:
I know that outdoor time is the best, but what about practicing active focus on an eye chart when you can't go out or it's dark outside?

I’m sorry I’m an idiot can anybody please translate this in child’s form
Take a book outside, or in natural light, and look at the text.
Look as close as you need to see the letters sharply then distance yourself from the book so the text gets slightly blurry. Then try to make it sharp by focusing and blinking
Relax your eyes, don't EVER squint

Hi Jake! Great video! I would love to improve my eyes but the problem is that my left eye is -12.5 and right is -5.25. I have been wearing the same glasses for 9 years. Hi, can i do active focus if i only have one eye that is -0.5? If so, how do i do it?
So is just need to look at something for a long time to feel your eyes are doing something
@@factsbeshumar8799 Hey there:) can you please tell me what is lazy eye and how is that happens?
When I try this and able to focus, the eye becomes be a bit itchy and making me wants to blink. Should I blink or force open my eyes to keep the focus?
No just blink first if you think that you are just not able to see a clear image after the blink then try keeping your open for more time and just try to focus not make your eyes tense just relax and focus
Don't force them just try to focas naturally
@@awfun8172 singh sahab plz explain this nerhord in hindi
@Jibon Sarkar my eyes are much better than before.....now i don't wear glasses
@Jibon Sarkarthere are other things which are far more important than active focus when you will adjust those things active focus will become easier and auto for you
Thos things are :-
1. Posture
2. Screen time aur close up
3. Breathing - how u breath ?? Fix it if u breath shallow from chest because it causes muscles tension and increases myopia.
The practical steps you can take to reduce myopia are
1. Smiling - yes ! It reduces stress and reduce myopia too ..Give your eyes as much relaxation time like outdoor time
2. Limit your close up to 15-20 minutes or just try 20-20-20 rule
3. Start practicing Deep breathing technique daily for 5-10 minutes
4. Start doing some massage neck area shoulder and back
Great work Jake! Please, please do a. video/s regarding Presbyopia. Many thanks
I also do that with people faces while I walk, I want to see how close the get until I can see their face clearly and people look at me weird 😂
But, it is good to be aware of your eye sight and I think that even trying to practice it while moving, is still good.
I think that by being outdoors you are not worsening your myopia cause you are looking at things in the distance.
