Last Ditch Effort To Resurrect A Decrepit Automotive AC

  • High treason in the eyes of a professional AC Tech.
Do not carry out this procedure on a vehicle of any real value. Without exaggeration it puts the cars AC system on death row ☠️ Rendering any future servicing completely impractical. Only an option for automobiles on borrowed time. ⌛️
I think at some point in the Vid I misspoke “grams”. To be clear the spec charge is 0.41-0.45 kg.
    Subject vehicle is a 2007’ Suzuki SX4 329,000 km.
Test drive conditions were not exactly ideal for performance testing an AC system… OAT 17C
    Relative Humidity -50%

Hopefully, your son will have some nice ac for a long time.

Desperate measures. I have no faith in “snake oil” fixes. We’ll see…I am following your Kawasaki series with interest. Cheers Terry 🍻

As the owner of a 2010 SX4 I feel your pain. Just charged it for the first time and it seems fine now but the dealer couldn't find a leak either. Its been a week and still blowing cold so fingers crossed this isn't the same problem

One problematic area is the flex lines (discharge & suction) at the compressor. They become permeable with age. You have to roll back the insulation sleeve to expose the leak. I spent $250 replacing mine only for them to leak in the exact same manner. NOS I guess 🤷‍♂️ Thx for watching. 🍻

I smiled as I read the title of your vid:) I still have an unused can of a/c sealer in the garage that must be 15 yrs old, always been tempted to try it but...

I did that for my 2012 Focus. 3 years ago I topped up the refrigerant. Worked for 1 summer.
2 years ago, I got the RedTek leak sealer, ran that through, and then a small shot of the refrigerant to top it off.
Lastedfor 2 summers before the damned transmission died and I scrapped the car.

@@TheGibby3340 A cheap hail Mary. And if it doesn't work there's always the 4x40 air conditioning. (4 windows down, and 40 mph.)

wow, hope that last ditch effort works! BTW, do you have one of those refrigerant sniffer tools? Maybe the evaporator is leaking? Just a thought. And congrats on your sons new job!

That’s possible. More than one failure is very possible on a car this age and mileage. Only resorting to this approach as the system really is beyond economic repair. Thx for the mention of my Son. He’s going into 4th year as a Civil Engineering student and was pleased to land a summer position with a local firm. Thx again 🍻

The a/c has been sentenced to death and is now currently on death row. How long before the fateful day? Days, months or years 🤔😁

Nothing to lose Iain. Extreme measures only to be applied in beyond economical repair circumstances. 🍻👍

I have a Suzuki Aerio just a bit older. Leaks worse every year. I see dirt and oil around the inspection sight glass. How do you determine if the hoses become porous?
