When I had issues with my TD-17's hi-hat, I performed the calibration very carefully and it helps a lot. Rest your foot like you normally would while the hat is closed while you calibrate it. I noticed a big difference when I was careful. In case you don't know, it is under Setup > HiHat Settings. Also, make sure the model of Hi-Hat you have is set correctly. Mine are the VH10 model.
I just found you and wow so many videos. I have been going back and forth about Roland.Ive done the math over and over and it seems like if you buy the full kit it's less then buying the components separately. You have a great grasp on what alot of drummers are looking for.
I'm not a drummer, Lindsey, but if I were, I'd have been convinced by this video to give the VAD307 kit a try. You have a very pleasant voice, and a very engaging manner, plus you obviously know what you're talking about when it comes to the technical aspects of percussion.
I had issue's with the hi-hat and snare too when i got my TD17KVX, so I bid on a TD27 module and so far got the digital snare for it....and WOW !!!!! Night and day !!! I'm definitely getting the digital hi-hats and then last the digital ride cymbal. If the hi hats are anything like the snare then I'm sure that 7.5 score you gave (and i agree with) will at least be a 9.0 or above. Every drummer I saw use the digital hi-hats had the same look I had when I got my digital snare. Just pure joy that such a thing exists...lol Anywho... This is the first time I saw one of your videos, great chops !!!!! Can't wait to see more. Have a wonderful day !!!!! :-)
you slay girl! i am a beginner drummer and your videos often motivate me to practice. thank you for your amazing videos after all these years. highly appreciate. all the best from a fellow german follower ✌🏻
I NEEDED this review! I had the TD-17kvx a couple years ago but sold it for my wife's engagement ring (never regretted that!) and have been itching to get another ever since. I've been eyeing these up but haven't seen any real good reviews and this was it. Thank you!
Just bought my VAD307, it'll be here on Mon/Tue. LOL, been a LONG weekend so far. I'm like a kid at Xmas. My current kit is an entry level Alesis. Switching to electronic was a risk (well taken) and the Alesis has seen a lot of hours. The VAD307 looks rugged and wont slip/slide around or heads move position.
I was really leaning towards the Alesis over the Roland based on what you get for the money. How did the Roland vs Alesis turn out for you? What did you not like about zstrike kit 🤔,?
Your a Great Sales Person, if I didn't just get a good used Roland set I would of without doubt spent the extra thousand for your pick after listening to your pitch!!!
I just bought mine today and now have the longest three week wait.. AHHH.... I have procrastinated on purchase FOREVER, so glad to get it done! Super stoaked to get this motha fucka set up!
Hello nice video, well done!! Is it ok using the felt side of the beater on KD-180L-BK? I think the felt destroys mesh. I've ordered this kit and I'm waiting to receive it...and I'm thinking about using a bass drum head protection to avoid the damage..
No it’s not ok. You can already see in the video that it’s damaging the head Either use another type of beater or put a patch on the head to protect it
My wife and I just bought a new townhome and we've been looking at new electric kits for a while because we'll be sharing walls with neighbors. This is the one I've been leaning towards and I've found it really hard to find good reviews on the kit, so this is awesome! Thanks so much for your input. Were there any other electronic kits you were looking at around the same price point?
That’s awesome! I’m glad the video was helpful! I looked at some Yamaha ones as well because I like the feel of the heads, but for the price and the way this one is designed, I kept coming back to it, and I’m really glad I didn’t get anything else 😬
@@LindseyRayeWard that’s awesome. Great to hear how satisfied you are with it. I get scared getting electronic kits because, like you, my previous ones I’ve used have been disappointing.
The VAD's are great - IF you're going to leave it at home - if you're going to use it for gigs it'll be back to the nightmare of bulky big acoustics, that's one of the reasons why I stopped using acoustics, and of course the sound quality of edrums. Roland is deff the way to go, but very pricey. I won't even take my TD11KV to a gig - even that's too bulky, I'd use the HD - 1.
Hello Lindsey. I have recently bought this kit, but when using the Bluetooth function the kit and the music turns up/down at the same time. Have you found a fix to this or do you use another way?
I hear that any hi hat stand will work for the VAD307 (b/c one is not included with the VAD307 set), but is there a solid recommendation that anyone has? I use a DW 3000 3-leg for my acoustic/studio kit, which I like. Just wondering if there is a preferred hi hat stand to use with an electronic kit (when the hi hat is standalone, and not part of a rack). Thanks everyone! Drum on!
Holy cow! I remember subbing sometime around the Vater endorsement 'era' so to speak. like,...11 years ago!? *Matt Damon transforming into old man.gif* 😄 I like the look of this kit. I not too long ago snapped up a KVX kit, using that same td-17 module, a fair bit cheaper in price which was an issue but there's some pros and cons to both from what i'm seeing. I am totally in the same acursed boat with the Hi hat sensitivity. Been trying for a few weeks now to find a solution but it seems to not want to play ball. Maybe the one part worth replacing? If there's some kind of alternative brand hi hat that'd fit alongside the rest 🤔 Thanks for making this! And here's to getting old 👴🍻
Wow!! Your support is so appreciated! 😊 and yeah, it’s literally the only knock I can give the kit. Replacing down the road is not a bad idea at all! And luckily easy to do.
@@LindseyRayeWard Hi, if you’re still having problems with your Hats, adjust the Rim Gain not your sensitivity. That’s going to kill all your dynamics if the sensitivity set too high. Roland Hi-Hats are usually pre-set to a sensitivity of 9 and a rim gain of 9. Try setting the rim gain to 10 or 11. Another thing to consider is your velocity curves. Roland Hats are commonly set to linear. If you feel you might be losing some low height dynamics, but that I mean if it’s difficult to get low dynamics, adjust the curve to EXP1 or EXP2, and not your overall sensitivity. Hope this helps.
Did you ever find a way to resolve the hihat timing issue? I’m a beginner looking to upgrade my ekit and have been considering this model but also noticed this problem when trying it in the store. I’m still a real beginner so I’m not that confident in technical configuration but I’d love to hear if you found a way to fix it!
Yes! It's simple, yet hard to explain via text, so I'm considering doing a follow up video explaining how to correct this problem. It's way easier than I originally thought!
depth of the shells? i'm trying to make a decision, between this and the new td17kvx2, which one you would recommend? i know it's the same module, and same cymbals. do you think is it worth the different price? thanks.
I hope you guys enjoyed this review video! Thanks for watching!
Keep up the good work!

I bought the VAD306 last year and absolutely love it! The 307 looks great too 🤘

Going to replace it with this one!
heck yeah! You're going to love it!

thanks, the lack of VH-14D digital hi-hat is a deal breaker for me, but seems like a worthy kit. Guess I'll have to go with a VAD 504 or 507
Great video 😁👍 how about 1 more question. Will the bass head accommodate a double kick?
Definitely late to the party(discovering you)! Excellent content….. keep going 💪

Didn’t know that it damaged mesh! Helpful info. I’ve been using the felt side because it’s the most quiet beater. But I’ll be rotating it now 😆
