- My Daddy Long Legs (私のあしながおじさん Watashi No Ashinaga Ojisan?) is a 1990 Japanese anime television series based on the novel Daddy-Long-Legs written by Jean Webster. The show was part of the container World Masterpiece Theater produced by Nippon Animation studios and was awarded the Excellent Movie Award for Television by the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs for Children in 1990.
Webster's story had been adapted into anime previously by Tatsunoko Productions in 1979 with the TV special Ashinaga Ojisan, which was directed by Masakazu Higuchi. The aforementioned special was dubbed in English and released in the US and is otherwise unrelated to this television series.
Watching this show as an adult is beautiful. It shows the kind of love story we will not be able on today's shows. It teaches unexpected love and how love can conquer everything. I'll never forget this anime and I'll show this to my future kids. 10/10. Always my childhood favorite series. This is just genuine love. Pure and powerful.
I just realized this story had a great influence on me from childhood until now.
I'd like to give my uttermost gratitude to the author and to the people who made this anime possible. Had it not been aired, I don't think I'd have a rich childhood to remember. Judy's life is an inspiration to many. Arigato mina san

I'm so happy that I was able to watch this series again now that I'm an adult. I first watched this when I was in elementary or is it highschool, I cant remember haha! But now I'm a grown up watching Judy and Jervis' relationship struggles made me cry ... I just love happy endings ❤

One of my alltime favourite animes! Such a beautiful and heart warming story. Judy is a real idol! What a pity that movies like this aren't shown on TV anymore. I watch this anime every two years. +Lina Zerr Agree! They just don't make anime like they used to; nowadays it is filled with lolis and moe blobs and over-sexuality. Wonderful stories like this aren't made any more - which is such a shame, as this series was wonderful! Did you read the book it was based on? That too is very good.

I just finished watching all the episodes. I just cant stop crying, I just love happy endings :) I already watched this when i was 9 or 10 and I dont really get the story back then but still loved it because of Judy' s personality, her friends, and the setting was 1920s. I appreciate it now. This is such a beautiful story and this will always be my favorite. I just cant get over it.:( I loved the ending seeing Ms Lippett, leonora, Emily, the kids she tutored, ms loan, etc attend to her wedding. Thank you sa pag upload ng most unforgettable cartoon series ng kabataan ko. Im turning 27 this month and yet bigla kong na miss ang story ni Judy abbot. I cant believe na natapos ko ang lahat ng episodes in just one day! Inggit much ako kay judy! Nakakatuwang panuorin ang lifestyle ng nakaraang generation. Walang masyadong makabagong technologies and yet they lived the life to the fullest! True relationships na ang pinaka pundasyon ay ang malalim na pagkakakilala sa bawat pagkatao ng bawat isa. Hayst sarap balikan.
13x times ko na pinapanood to pero hindi parin aq nag sasawang balikbalikan subrang nakakakilig ang story nila hindi nakakasawang panuorin... sana may part2 hehehehe

I must say, the anime was very well made. It's not entirely similar to the book, which made the anime as good as the novel itself. There is good characterisation in both, and everyone had their unique personality (in the novel, which is copied onto the anime) and design (in the anime), and each had their own strengths, quirks and weaknesses and, as the novel and series progressed, everyone grows and overcomes their faults.
As an aspiring author, this had joined my top 10 favourites, and I hope to make a story with memorable characters such as this. I hope they make more animes and novels such as this one, for I find most new novel and animes lacking substance, though perhaps it cannot be fully blamed on them but the society today instead as people then had different values as what we have now.
Ah~ can't believe it ended! So glad it's a happy ending!!!!!! I want to watch more tho. Man, for a second there I seriously thought he's gonna die!! Whew thank god!! I really hope more people will watch this show. It's such a good story.... When I was 4, I didn't get to watch all episodes because I moved around a lot. I didn't even get to find out who Ashinaga Ojisan is!!!! I found out after over 20 years haha!! Man, I will miss this show.
OMG I LOVE THIS SERIES SOOOOOO MUCH! I truly love it, I LOVE IT! I knew it from my mom who loves it too, after watching it I'm tottaly in love with it! I watched the whole series twice and just can't help smiling whenever I remember the ending! Love it!!

I used to watch this in my childhood but I guess I was just too young to understand back then. I'm glad I watched this again! Everything about this anime series is honest and innocent; I love how the simplicity of it makes it wonderful. It's a true classic indeed. P.S. It took me a 3-day-marathon just to finished this... -With much happiness watching this again, Sasan. ;)

My daddy long legs marathon for two days (1 am na). Im turning 23 this year and hindi ko maalala kung what year ba to pinalabas sa channel 2 pero i still remember every scene. I wish I had a daddy long legs too 😍. Thanks Judy for the memory. Mag aaral na po ako hehe 😂

+Emily Kam yh, Jervis is her bf, he proposed her but because she is an orphan and thought that Jervis didn't knew, so she rejected, and she was like I never loved u n stuff, then she was sad obviously. But Jervis was daddy long legs and knew she is an orphan so he was just waiting for HER to tell him.......more clear now??😅😅

Soo basically he was attracted to her when she was 16 and felt like a scuzzy perv, which was only made worse by the whole "Daddy" thing. Yeah, I can buy that as a good reason to be too ashamed to stop both their misery a lot sooner. Still, ONE of them should have confessed this stuff a lot earlier. The lying seems ridiculously more painful than the truth.
