Need to be constantly changed (as certain flavours would stick to the glove and carry over to the other sweets) and that would increase the price of the sweets to compensate for the constant glove buying, especially the tight fitting gloves that are required are extremely tedious to put on or take off. Well the issue here is bacteria/germs are everywhere, if the gloves (especially after handling the sticky sugar) so much as brushes against another surface (even the tap) germs/bacteria instantaneously spread to the gloves, heck even in the box germs and bacteria may spread to the gloves. The gloves dont sterilise itself, they are simple a cover for ones hands, a pair of clean hands is the same as a pair of clean gloves. Dirty gloves are like dirty hands.

They look like the type of candies that I would be so excited to try, but then not end up liking it because it's really different from what I had hoped it was
Well they are mostly made out of Beans or Rice. Some are nut or fruit based. Most of Japanese sweets are made with a low amount of sugar. So if you expect some super sweet taste you would be disappointing for sure. The taste is mild and you would not find a very strong flavor. The textures are mostly soft and a little grainy. Some have a jelly texture but way softer than a jelly bean and also way less sweet. And finally they also have the kinds that are like little cakes. I enjoy these sweets a lot, on the other hand my mom dislikes them and says they "taste like nothing". So I guess you have to try them to figure out if you enjoy it or not. But at least now you have a vague idea of what to expect.
honestly you might be right, it is not that very sweet, and it is just food colouring, usually it has nothing to do with taste (they all tastes the same), except red bean paste.

These are amazingly delicious! I live in Japan and I've tried these, they are good like seriously! Along with Matcha tea, I really love the taste! It’s so delicate and beautiful. All the tea sweets are very simple and it’s made to compliment and enhance the flavour of matcha. Nothing extra but more comforting.
more like matcha was made to enhance the flavour of the sweets. Literally all the sweets are made out of the same things. rice, red bean paste, roots, or green tea paste. The tea is more like something to dilute your palate from too much sweetness (but these really aren't that sweet).
The patience in learning the skill to do this is astounding. Though I'm mostly going through TH-cam on a making from scratch kinda look, this is still neat.
Bit of a lengthy comment. Sorry :) There's a thing that the Tibetan monks do in the mountains that makes this experience understandable and not sad at all. They create mandalas out of coloured sand and they can spend days, to weeks, to even years making them. The sand is so light and fragile, a sneeze, a cough or even a sigh can have them fly. If they manage to create the full mandala they brush it away in a sort of ritual/ceremonial fashion, making beautiful 'smudged' versions of the creations. Then they brush them off completely and start anew. It is meant to teach them to understand (and accept) that things are not eternal and that they eventually will meet their end. These treats aren't being thrown away carelessly or brushed away in a ceremonial fashion. They are being cherished by being consumed. The acceptance of the customers eating it and enjoying what they're eating is enough to make the experience worthwhile, I'm sure. :) I remember I was making cupcakes once (nowhere NEAR as dedicated as this!) but I spent a few hours to make them all for the gathering. After they were finished I was so proud of what I made and it all looked so good and delicious. Serving them to the people and seeing their faces enjoy my cupcakes made the whole 2-3 hours of work completely and totally worth it!

今4年ほど部活で茶道を習っている大学生１年生ですが、お手前をして心を落ち着かせ季節ごとの和菓子をたしなむのは至福です。茶道も和菓子もその魅力は計り知れないと思います。
手袋手袋って言うけどこういう日本の文化があるんだってわかってほしいな。確かに今の時代は衛星に厳しいけどそんなに嫌なら食べなきゃいいし、この職人さんも最大限の工夫はしてると思うよ。

Bit of a lengthy comment. Sorry :)
There's a thing that the Tibetan monks do in the mountains that makes this experience understandable and not sad at all. They create mandalas out of coloured sand and they can spend days, to weeks, to even years making them. The sand is so light and fragile, a sneeze, a cough or even a sigh can have them fly. If they manage to create the full mandala they brush it away in a sort of ritual/ceremonial fashion, making beautiful 'smudged' versions of the creations. Then they brush them off completely and start anew.
It is meant to teach them to understand (and accept) that things are not eternal and that they eventually will meet their end.
These treats aren't being thrown away carelessly or brushed away in a ceremonial fashion. They are being cherished by being consumed. The acceptance of the customers eating it and enjoying what they're eating is enough to make the experience worthwhile, I'm sure. :)
I remember I was making cupcakes once (nowhere NEAR as dedicated as this!) but I spent a few hours to make them all for the gathering. After they were finished I was so proud of what I made and it all looked so good and delicious. Serving them to the people and seeing their faces enjoy my cupcakes made the whole 2-3 hours of work completely and totally worth it!

私が和菓子店の販売員を務めて早四年になりますが、和菓子職人の方はもう高齢でそろそろ、退職を考えていると言われました。毎年上生菓子などの練り菓子の完成度の高さには惚れ惚れしてしまいます。全て手作業で行なっているんです。機械ではなく全て手作業で。今この時代に。時間もかかりますし、沢山作れるわけでもないです、そして日持ちがするわけでもない。だけどお客様は和菓子が季節ごとに変わるたびに、「もうこの季節が来たのね」と微笑んでくれます。衛生面や手袋の使用など、意見は様々あると思いますが、素晴らしく伝統のある日本のお菓子を否定から入るのは辞めていただきたいです。このコメントを見たらきっと。職人の方は相当心が痛むと思います。（長い）
