  • I have a Blackstar ID 60 which is MIDI capable and Ive been using the BOSS GT-100 as a MIDI controller with it while at the same time hooking it up to the amp via the four cable method (4CM). Its been very useful to me and I decided to make a video for those who might not be aware that you can do this. I hope you find this video useful!
    Recorded direct from a Focusrite 2i4 into Pro-Tools.

    Guitar: Les Paul Custom
    Bass: Ibanez SR300E

    Man, that's AWESOME! Actually it helped me solve an issue hooking up my Pod Go into a Blackstar ID:CORE 100.
    Thank you so much!

      Glad it helped in any way! I try to make videos that I would like to see that I don't always find on TH-cam.

      Rob L yeah it is a bit more straight forward than the blackstar but the tones are great

      Matthew Scanlon how does it work? Is everything working fine? Could you change more than just patches on the amp, like turning effects on/off?

    Hi! I will try this with my old gt-3 but I have a doubt. The patches in the boss, need to be edited with the effects you want for the manual mode, I suppose and need to be clear, no preamps, nothing at all, just the effects you want activate manually, right? I don't know how the pedalboard patches affects the tones in the amp... I'm waiting for a Line6 Catalyst 100 to try this. Thanks!!

    I just got Tripleplay midi pickup and a footcontroller for it, and I was wondering how it will work with BOSS GT-100. And I mean like not just for switching patches, but I want BOSS-GT-100 to be my synthesizer. I know it have midi unit built in. But how good is it, and how dows it work? Anyone tried? Its realy cool to have synthesizer built in to a guitar, the only issue is the latency. When using computer software i get allot latency, but when using hardware like BOSS GT-100 the lag should be eliminated. Anyone who tried? Give me a shout. I have BOSS-GT-100 and I dont want to spend extra money on a seperate synthesizer or midi unit.

    Looking for a video on plugging a keyboard into GT-100 so that I can type midi into DAW. . . . . Where can I find?

    By using the midi feature, does this rule out the need for a separate midi footswitch? I just bought an Engl Ironball SE, which has modeling on it (probably going to disable the preamps on the GT100 and just use it for effects). Will I not need a separate footswitch to change channels on the amp? Will I also not need to use the amp control input from the GT100?

      I no longer own it unfortunately. When I was using the GT100 I was using it to switch the 2 channels on the amp. I’m not really sure what it can do beyond that.

      There is no way to control the wah through MIDI on this amp

    Great video , i hope you can help me. I am using a gt8 and want to send midi the same way you do. I hope it works the same , so you can make a patch and add midi info into that patch ? Where/ how do you write the midi program chance of the amp in your boss gt100 and how do you save it in a preset patch ?

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the GT100 the midi commands are system wide I don't believe you can do it per patch. On the GT100 I just press WRITE after each change I make. As far as changing the amp patches via midi, the GT100 was somehow already set up for it so I didn't have to figure it out.

    • @jomaas67
      @jomaas67 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your response , i believe the GT-8 works a little different , i want to save for every patch a different midi message i believe its possible somehow still don't know how , but i keep searching thanks for your help.

    Thx for a great video! What amp model is it exactly? When I search for "Blackstar ID 60" I only find an amp without Send/Return sockets -- but you need those for the 4CM, right?

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harry Thomsen hey I hope this video is useful to you! I think it was the crunch model if you're taking about when I was showing the wah part. If you go into the editing software, the "line in" and "emulated out" can be switched into "send" and "return".

    • @HarryThomsen
      @HarryThomsen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thx a lot for your reply! Wow, I didn't know you could do that. That's really helpful to know. I own a GT-100 and I was searching for an amp where I could do something similar to what you're showing -- and I didn't consider the Blackstar ID 60 because of the seemingly missing send/return option. Thx for making that clear!

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harry Thomsen you're welcome! Hope you find an amp that works for you. Blackstar should make it clearer on the back of the amp.

    Hello I have a problem with Boss gt100 in Midi out function. If I send pc # 1 it sends pc # 3 and then pc # 1. The same thing happens if i send pc # 2 it sends pc # 3 and then pc # 2. This happens in all banks. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi ,,,,,, has a blackstar id 60, want to use my boss gt 100 to control the amplifier settings. What settings should I do to make it work? I've connected everything with not knowing how to save and recall my own settings. I have programmed 12 custom settings on my blackstar but can not control them with my bossgt100 ...... it will be possible to control 128 different patches via midi according to the user manual ....... please help me ,,,, ,,, I love my blackstar and want to be able to use it full

    • @nickcaptain13
      @nickcaptain13 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      first you need to make sure that you exited demo mode...(if you havent ill explain how to do it its really simple... press and hold the manual button, then turn ON the amp, and when you see it flashes, THEN RELEASE the manual button, and then you are ready to start saving the presets) if you are in demo mode, anything you try and save gets lost when you switch the amp off... then, after you exit the demo mod, you can save the 128 presets easily through blackstar insider, because with the amp you only can save up to 12.... on the amp, create your sound, like it, you press and hold any of the 4 channel you want you want until they start flashing red, then you choose the number where you want that sound saved.. you can also switch banks while the channel buttons are flashing... now, withing the blackstar insider software, as you connect the amp with the usb cable provided, go to the settings menu, set the MIDI Channel to whatever you want, i think i have it in omni mode though.. default i think its on 1.. but if you set the blackstar to omni, it will receive messages from all 16 channels so you dont need to check the boss gt 100 to be on the same channel with the amp.. if you choose channel 1, you need to make sure that the gt100 will be on that channel too.. then you just connect the misi cable from the MIDI OUT of the gt100 to the MIDI IN of the blackstar.. just press the buttons on the pedalboard and you should see the changes on the amp.. as for the 4 cable method, its easy but i hate cables and the midi is already too much for me :P

      When you hit write after editing the patch to save it you then hit ez/ctrl to delete the letters. Then use the knob to scroll to new letters. The function buttons are at top of screen when you hit write once out of editing mode

    Please how to assign MIDI channel changes to a different amp without losing the ones for primary amp? (Secondary amp has different channel configuration of course).

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not totally sure what you mean but if you use let's midi command "10" on the GT100 then the amps you are using may be able to be programmed differently so the same pedal will control different things in the 2 amps
